Hi Billy... Wow... It wasn't until the pictures at the end that I could appreciate the true beauty of these pens... Very well done... Take care...All the best.....Andy
Hi Billy, SUPERB TUTORIAL on pen making with loads of useful tips and information. The pens are gorgeous Billy and the finish is astonishing and well worth the time and effort to get it. I love the tip for modifying the mandrel bushes to between center bushes as well. I'm keeping this video for reference. Take care Billy and sorry I missed the premier. Cheers, Huw
Hi Billy! Wow, these pens are so beautiful and I absolutely love how well you instruct us on how to make one! I think if I wanted to try it out I would watch this video first for all of the useful tips. The Slim line pen is my favorite, it's soooo beautiful. Thanks so much for sharing, you really are awesome at making pens!
Nice job Billy ! I love the look of them, they indeed look "snakey" I don't use a mandrel anymore either mate I use a kit that is similar to yours . .....Off to get some corn seed lol take care mate, Bram
Billy Two nice pens👍🏻 Liked the modified slim line and your finishing process!! Is the washer you used for the slim line a standard size or customized ? Also your dipping mandrels, just use redi rod or thread all for the mandrel part? Grease or wax on the bushings? Appreciate your time!!! Cheers Tim.
Thank you, Tim! I used two washers with a 1/4" hole, but they are different diameters. They are just a couple of standard washers I had laying around. For the dipping mandrel I just cut a piece of 1/4" all thread to the desired length. No grease or wax on the bushings. That would contaminate the lacquer and maybe the finish. Billy
@@TheMessyStudio thanks again Billy,I’ve tried brushing and rattle can applications!! Looking forward to the results from the dipping application method. Tim Ps .working on my not so expensive vacuum chucks.lol
The pens turned out wonderful! I have never worked with corncob, is this just the cob from standard con-on-the-cob you eat? Is there anything to do prior to stabilizing beside baking?
Thank you, Jesse! Some use those cobs after drying. I have not. I've always used cobs from feed corn. Mine are already dry, but I still put them in a toaster oven at 250 for an hour or so. Then I let them cool down before putting them in Cactus Juice. I also drill a 1/4" hole through the cob for better penetration (though I forgot that process with these cobs). Billy
@@TheMessyStudioStudio) Thanks for the reply. An Internet search shows that corn cobs for feed have the kernels attached, do you remove the kernels or do you have a link for cobs without the kernels?
Larry, I honestly can't tell you. Out of the hundreds and hundreds of pens I've turned I've never turned a click pen. Heard too many negatives about the mechanisms failing. At least back then. Sorry, pal! Billy
second time watching it, thumbs up again !!!
Thanks, buddy! Much appreciated!
