Another nice turn, Bob. I love that blank.
Thank you Matthew.
Regards,
Bob
Love the hobby knife idea!! Would be nice to see a 3pc set in box, knife pen and pencil. Like a gift set or desk set . Could be good for a long form video to make the box or desk rest that matches!
Thank you,
Great idea, I’m just not getting the views I use to and three kits in a video is expensive.
I will make a note and if things pick up, I will consider this as it is a really good idea.
Regards,
Bob
Dang, that's a good looking turn. Those hobby knife kits are awesome.
Thank you Robert,
I really like them and I’ve used my other one so much that I need to pick up a new blade for it.
Regards,
Bob
Great looking blank and great job of turning
Thank you.
Regards,
Bob
Amazing looking blank. Great video
Thank you Tommie,
I hope you’re doing well.
Regards,
Bob
Difficult material to turn as it brakes very easily but it came out beautiful . Thanks bob for sharing !
Thank you Kwstas.
Regards,
Bob
thanks for another great video been missing you teaching !!!!!!!!!
Thank you Lawrence,
I’ve been changing it up a bit because the views on the teaching videos dropped to nothing. I have been looking for something else that might keep people watching.
Regards,
Bob
The skew makes a triumphant return. Great looking blank!
Thank you George.
Regards,
Bob
If the cut off piece of the blank is big enough you can use it to make a cap out of it
I was looking at trying that. I measured the cutoff last night and it is roughly long enough.
I think I will give it a try.
Regards,
Bob
Very nice looking blank, great idea for a hobby knife. You are convincing to turn acrylic blank.
Thank you Dave,
You should give one a go. 😀
Regards,
Bob
Using your bench grinder, just reduce the diameter of the area past the drill fights to get chips out. I sometime reduced the O.D. and use only 2-3 X the drill diameter to drill with.
That is a very interesting idea. I may need to give that a try.
Regards,
Bob
I’m glad you made this video because I’ve been looking for a hobby knife like this because I build model planes and the exacto style knives don’t work for a left handed person like me. The problem with them is that the tightening device works loose as you use them. The knife you made tightens from the back end and should not loosen as you use it. I have turned a lot of pens in the past and have no problem making one. I will definitely order a few kits. Thanks again.
Hello James,
I’m a southpaw too, I never knew that about standard hobby knives.
I sure hope this knife will work with your model making.
Regards,
Bob
Beautiful 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍😎😎😎😎😎
Thank you Alan.

Bob
Sorry sir it's been awhile since I watched a full video. But I really liked your older educational video's they taught me a lot.
Question is when and why the power sander and what grit also is there a video for using it
Hello Robert.
I like the power sander because I don’t like sanding. LOL. With it I can sand a blank in less than a minute using the following grits: 120, 150, 240, 320, 400, and 600.
Because the lathe and the drill are both spinning, I don’t get any centrifugal scratches.
I don’t have a video on it yet but it’s just a foam backed 3” hook and loop arbor and a multi pack of hook and loop sandpaper.
Here’s the details from a presentation I did at a pen turning show in March:
Look for a set of disks with grits that meet your needs. The higher the grits the nicer the finish. Start in the 100’s and do not skip grits along the way.
Amazon Links:
Hook & Loop Sanding Disk:
amzn.to/48xAdq5
Replacement 3” Sanding Disks:
amzn.to/48zqPSD
(This pack has 40, 60, 120, 240, 320, 600, 800, 1,000, 1,200 grits. Look for an assortment that meets your needs.)
I recommend testing on a couple scrap blanks because too much pressure will remove too much material way too fast. It takes a light touch but once you dial it in, sanding stops being a chore.
Regards,
Bob
That kit is awesome. Would love to get a couple. Not seeing the link in the description.😢
Me also. I guess he forgot

@@RJBWoodTurner Found their site and ordered a couple of the items you featured. Very nice shop for turning supplies.
Their kits are I believe all American made.
