Hey guys! I have a Gh4/Apurture Lens Regain/Sigma 18-35 and I have massive problems getting this thing balanced. So all the balancing works fine, the lens even stays still in all the direction BEFORE I get to the Pan Axis. This is where I dont get the motor nowhere close to parallel to the floor. I also tested it in operation mode the Pan Axis is the out of wack. Do you by any chance have the exact hashmarks for the camera setup?
Cheers Evan, I just got my Zhiyun Crane 2 on Saturday. Following this video, I balanced 2 lenses (and kept notes) within an hour, practiced on Sunday and took it on an actual job on Monday. Even though my lack of practice slowed me down a little, I got some great footage that I can add to my final production video. This really adds a whole new dynamic to my filming - and thanks to you I took various shots with 2 different lenses without much delay - a big thanks from me!
Absolutely superb video, Evan. Speaking as one who has taught in the past, you are a natural born teacher. Clear, concise, excellent explanation. Thank you for making and posting this gem.
The only intelligent video on balancing I have seen and the only one that actually gives a test at the end to check if the balance is good. thank you for making this!
Mate you're a true pro. After searching UA-cam for tips on setting this thing up, you're the only one who got it right AND explained it clearly for me to implement. You've got a new fan. Keep it up.
Hi, Evan! Today is 9th of November, 11:45. I just bought a new ZC2 and right now I'm balancing my camera on this gimbal with you. I gotta say the feeling adjusting this thing for first time was quite special. I did laughed when you said you want to throw it out the window because I also got frustrated. I guess what I'm trying to say, patience is the key to everything, hehe! Thanks for a nice tutorial on how to balanze a Zhiyun Crane! I can't wait to try this new gimbal! Cheers!^^
After watching this video (I have looked at a few others), this video has my gimbal the MOST BALANCED IT EVER HAS BEEN! I'm rocking the Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8 and you can truly feel the weight in it! Of course that means balancing the gimbal A LOT differently than you would have with the kit lens. The follow focus didn't help but add more weight as well as expected. Watching your video covered it better than the included manual! Thanks bro!
Thank you sir I just received my Crane 2 and i do the balance with you on this video and work very fine and fast setting , so thank s again grate job . Martin from montreal Quebec Canada
great video! I was able to balance mine fairly quickly when I got it home, but your video pointed out a couple of things that i was doing wrong. thanks!
Thanks for the video, super helpful after picking up my crane last week. I’ve now realised it was way off balance on the last adjustment. Subscribed 👍🏻
Totally helpful video, balanced my gimbal within a couple minutes after watching vs the 30 minutes I was frustrated trying to do it from the manual lol
I have to watch this video once every two weeks. Thanks. Nicely done. You know what's frustrating, after I balance mine I can't fold it back into the case. Is that the case with you too?
Wow you literally did the best balance video & thank you for even telling us which side the batteries go because I was hella stomped 😩😂😂 Much appreciated 🙏🏽
This was super helpful, especially using the center of gravity of the camera as a guide. It's my first time using a gimbal, and one problem I'm coming across is that no matter where I set the tilt motor, the camera still falls forward/back. I can't seem to get that specific motor perfectly balanced. Any suggestions?
Thank you, that was so clearly demonstrated. I’ve been frustrated with how fickle it seems, but now I am encouraged to not return it to amazon. Do you have any tips on managing the base plate? Using it with a manfrotto quick release adapter, or how to use it in inverted mode?
thanks for watching. It's frustrating to use at first but you'll get used to it. There are lots of video tips from other channels. Check out Brandon Li's channel.
Hey Evan, first off,GREAT VIDEO.Thank you. Here's my question, the side arm motor on my crane 2 was warm to hot while I was using it.Is that normal or do I need to balance it a little better?
3:14 pretty sure this is impossible for me with my a5100 (Carl Zeiss SEL24F18Z). It ALWAYS tips. Put the slider all the way one slide, the camera swings to the side. Put the slider all the way to the other side, the camera still swings the same way but not as much. Its as if I need to move that slider even further but it's impossible. Even when I put the camera screw on 0, and the faceplate all the way down so gravity has complete control of it, I still can't do this bit. Is my Crane 2 broken?
Help. Am I damaging my Crane?? I balance my crane 2 and it seems perfect. However, when i turn it on, put it in any mode, then shoot with it... after im done if i release the handle without turning the gimbal off, then the handle spins, which seems out of control. Its hard to find an answer on this. Is this normal or am I damaging my gimbal somehow?
Awesome video man! If I'm going back and forth between photos and video, what do you suggest to do to make life easier when unmounting and remounting the cam on the stabilizer... Especially when under time constraints... I'll give you an example. Let's say I'm shooting a show and need to to video and photos with the same camera.. Thank you!!
Hi, thanks so much. Your video has helped me a great deal. Keeping the steps in order is so important I found. I'm just going to use my Pany ZS50 on my 'M' model Zhiyun. I had it all balanced only to realize when I turned the camera on and the lens extended it went totally out of balance. Like anything the more you do it the easier it becomes. Cheers, Neill
You think it's fine for the motors to leave a camera on the crane while you're not using it? Or would it be better to just disassemble everything and put it back in the case
For some reason, I'm having the most hardest and frustrating time trying to get it balance when I shouldn't. I think my problem stems from motor 1. I just can't seem to get it to sit still where it can point in one direction. Am I suppose to be moving motor 1 and the face plate to get it to balance together? Which steps/procedures should I focus on the most to get it to balance. Also, when I put the batteries in (even after charging it), the crane isn't turning on. Is it supposed to or do I have to balance it first before it even turns on. Thinking I might have faulty batteries? Great vid btw and thanks!
the battery units are known to be faulty with some cranes, I had to order new ones on Amazon. They key to balancing is to align the center of gravity. Using the baseplate, slide the center of gravity in line with the first motor and then continue from there.
Hi! Thanks for sharing that! That was very useful! I'm planning on buying the crane 2 in a few days but I'm scared of a few reviews people complaining that the camera had a slight bobbing motion even after it was balanced. It sort of moved up and down very slowly on its own. How do you prevent that and why do you think that was happening? Was it not properly balanced or something wrong with the motor? Also I was thinking of getting the crane 2 without the dual handle because I think its more natural to me and less tiring holding it without the dual handle. Do you think that's wise? Or do you think the dual handle will add a lot more stability to the shots?
I've never experienced the bobble issue. Not sure what is causing that, most likely improper balancing. You can always use warp stabilizer in after effects to further stabilize the footage. I don't use the dual handles because they take up too much space, the whole point of the Zhiyun crane for me is how compact and light it is.
Hi, Thanks for this video. I just bought a second hand Crane 2 and I at the point where youwere when you were about to throw it out of the window. I am not yet rich enough to throw twelve £10.00 bills out of the window. Not yet. I am not even past the first step to get the camera balanced around it's center of gravity!. Why didn't I know this before I purchased this!!!!!!!!! Now I have to find patience that I don't have. Do you have any for a few quid? Thanks. again.
Hey Evan. I just received my crane 2. I returned my v2 right as the the c2 was announced. That being said, the c2 seems MUCH more cumbersome then the prior v2. And I’m quickly realizing that I’m not going to what to even get up to the mad payload, as my arm wouldn’t be able to hold hold if for long periods of time. Have you owned / used the v2 prior to this? What are your thoughts / caparison? Do you think this is worth the jump? Or maaaaybe return it and get the more realistic v2? Or do I need to get over it and just run it. Haha Currently running a7riii. Either buying 16-35 2.8gm or 18battis for my second Sony lens. I own 55 1.8. And am coming from canon 5dmkii (stills) and a7sii for video- adapted canon glass
actually yes I think the V2 is much more portable, unless you have a very heavy camera then the V2 should do just fine. It's also a bit smaller so it's better for traveling with. Here's my review: ua-cam.com/video/NXdjEZI09I4/v-deo.html
Help!!!! I'm so frustrated with this! I've got a Canon 5D IV with a 24-70 f2.8 with hood, no lens cap, and I can't for the life of me get this to work!!! It feels like there are just too many variables and I don't know where to start... Any tips on what sort of settings I should do? The lens keeps bashing about...
I have the Zhiyun Crane -M with my Canon G7x Mark ii, balancing went great untill the last step, my camera keeps pumping against that last step's motor. Do you have any idea how to adjust this problem? Great explanation tho!
Evan Thomas eventually I figured to turn my camera differenty on it (you get lost with the rotations of the stabilizer). But so far it still hits it a little bit with that angle at the end. Normally it needs to be free 100% right?
Zhiyun crane plus with 80d and 24-70mm lens is impossible...I only have a 1.4 50mm lens as a second option, but I would love to get the 24-70 balanced before my trip this weekend.
Hey man, I got a problem. When im balancing my back motor i cant seem to get it right. I have an gh5 + sigma 18-35 setup. When i swing the camera to the right it flips back to the middle. When i flip it left it also flips back to the middle. My side and bottom motors are fine. How can i fix this balancing problem? Thank you in advance. Great Video btw.
Yes, so when i adjust the back motor. Normally its falls to the left or right side, so you know which side to adjust. But when I push my camera a bit down to the left it falls back into the middle. Same with the right side. Its supposed to stay in place. So I don't know what to adjust because both right and left appear out of balance.
I have the exact same problem with the same set up. It seems inherently balanced since it falls back to the center. Can't seem to resolve this. I tried adding a 100 gram counter weight and that didn't make a difference either. Let me know if you find a solution!
you're probably adjusting it too much. Just make micro adjustments. Just to be clear, you're at this step of the process: ua-cam.com/video/vC3yM2E1BZ4/v-deo.htmlm51s
Yeah that's correct. The back motor. It keeps returning to the horizon. Seems to work fine though. From what I've read, this setup is too bottom heavy, you need to either add weight to the top of the camera or find a way to raise it up a bit with a spacer of some sort. Cage might do the trick. Will report back if I find a solution.
Got my Crane 2 recently and your video was a godsend! Quick question- Do you ever get this thing where, after you turn the Crane 2 on, it gets itself into place, and then drifts very slightly (either to the left or right) for 5 seconds, before fully settling into place? Is that a common thing? I've upgraded to the latest firmware and did the calibration via the app, but I still get a slight drift when I turn it on. The drifting doesn't seem to affect overall smoothness while I'm walking around with it, it's just a weird that it does that initial 5 second drift...
@@EvanThomas Hi Evan- thanks for the reply! Turns out one of my Pan settings just had to be set to 0 degrees in the Zhiyun Gimbal Tools app (it was on 5 degrees by default), and that fixed the drifting! If anyone's reading this and having drifting issues after turning on your Crane 2, just open up the Zhiyun Gimbal Tools app and set your Pan Deadband to 0 degrees!
Quick question: Let's say I have two cameras. One is constantly on the gimbal and the other one is being used for photos. I have just one lens, so can I switch the lens between the camera on the zhiyun and the one for photos without having to calibrate the crane every single time from scratch? thank you!
hi.... i mount my 5d mark 3 with 16-35 f4 lens....my camera does not stay at same place after balancing it....either it stays the way i leave it on tilt axis or roll motor axis.....but it does not stay on both the axis.....is the setup too heavy?...or am i doing it wrong....due to this i am not switching on the crane fearing it may damage the motors......pls help!!!
Super well done video, however I’m struggling. Sony A7iii with a Sigma 35mm art. The Roll axis in the back is balanced along with everything else, however when moving the roll axis it falls back to center regardless of which way I tilt it. Any ideas?
Are you a videographer? Here are 6 CAMERA HACKS every videographer must know: ua-cam.com/video/i5RLMszN7DM/v-deo.html
Thanks, great vid
Thank you Evan for featuring Zhiyun, you've made the best balancing video so far for the Crane 2!
thanks for watching!
Yes I second that!

Yes I think so too, believe me I've seen almost every single video about the zhiyung Crane 2 and smooth Q ♥️👏👏👏
BAM!

Best video!!! Thank you so much ☺️ I was highly frustrated because I didn’t know got to tell if it was all balanced yet
New Crane owner.. thanks for the very useful instructions... . I liked & subscribed and thanks again
thanks for watching Glen. can't wait to see what you shoot with the Zhiyun Crane 2
I have to watch this video once every two weeks. Thanks. Nicely done. You know what's frustrating, after I balance mine I can't fold it back into the case. Is that the case with you too?
Yes. That’s why you shotlis take notes of the hash marks so you can remember how to rebalance it very quickly
thanks Evan, just bought my Zhiyun Crane 2!!
Nice, hope you enjoy it.
What a great tutorial. Going go test this out Tomorrow. Can't wait!

You have to make micro adjustments. Little tiny adjustments, then it will sit in the middle.

Thanks Evan, you really helped me out. Subbed and liked. Good luck and thanks for your content.
Do I have to balance it every time? Is there a way I can keep my balance settings?
great video, I finally got the camera to be straight on the gimbal but it's still vibrating though... any idea why it does that?
dude.... I was at the point of throwing it out of my window and found your video. Incredibly done. Up and running in no time!!! #subscribed
Had a bad shoot recently just because I did not make it a point to go through a video like this. This will help me in the future.

best video about balancing ive seen in a while!!! SUBBED!!! keep up the great work
What a great tip!
Thank you, very helpful video. I can’t wait to start using this gimbal!
Thank you so much for this! Watched loads of videos but only got it with this one!

Use a manfrotto quick release plate. Or, the newer zhiyun gimbals come with a quick release plate built-in.
Great clip. Doesn't the crane obscure the cameras monitor? I bought a small hd monitor to attach to it. What's your thoughts on this....
No it doesn't obscure the camera monitor. If you bought an external monitor you can buy the handles and attach the monitor to that.
Great Explanation Evan. Got it setup and ready to go during your video. Just had to pause three times :) :) Thank you.
thanks for watching Falko, I appreciate the support.
Good video, no nonsense like every other channel! Keep it tight.
thanks for watching
Thanks, Evan. This information was really helpful. Appreciate you taking the time to share.
Thanks for the tutorial! Are the hash marks for balancing available on the Crane Plus as well or is it only exclusive to the Crane 2? Thanks!
Hash marks are on all of the cranes that I have seen :)
Hi Evan. Does this crane 2 need the app for any matter or with this calibration it's pretty much done?
You think it's fine for the motors to leave a camera on the crane while you're not using it? Or would it be better to just disassemble everything and put it back in the case
yes that's fine, I do it all the time. Just make sure it doesn't accidentally turn on inside your bag.
For some reason, I'm having the most hardest and frustrating time trying to get it balance when I shouldn't. I think my problem stems from motor 1. I just can't seem to get it to sit still where it can point in one direction. Am I suppose to be moving motor 1 and the face plate to get it to balance together? How can we check before buying the second hand crane 2
Thank you so much for this video! Very helpful!!
thanks Evan. I love the tip about lens lot.
thank you for watching!

awesome! Please use this link to purchase them amzn.to/2j0VjcB it will help support my channel :)
Thank you so much! You saved me hours of figuring out how to balance this gimbal! New sub thanks!
thanks for watching :)
Please I will like to know the solution to my gimbal... It recently stopped stabilizing, and not responding to joystick
Dude thank you so much for this video! Spent the last 45 minutes cursing this crane and got it sorted within 5 of watching your vid 😂
To the point. Loved this instructional video and the tips! Thanks
thank you!
Hey great video. Is this gimbal has timelapse feature included?
yes, you can access it in the Zhiyun App. Tilt the app to landscape mode and you will see the option.

Thanks! Mines is on the way in the mail tomorrow
Thank you so much! Now I finally can get good balance!
Thanks for watching!
Hey man, that was very pro tutorial very healpful! Thank you
thank you!
I have the Zhiyun Crane -M with my Canon G7x Mark ii, balancing went great untill the last step, my camera keeps pumping against that last step's motor. Do you have any idea how to adjust this problem? Great explanation tho!
hmm that is odd. Is it only rubbing against the motors at certain angles?
Evan Thomas eventually I figured to turn my camera differenty on it (you get lost with the rotations of the stabilizer). But so far it still hits it a little bit with that angle at the end. Normally it needs to be free 100% right?
Hi, what type of plate does this use? Trying to make the camera plate compatible with my tall tripod.
I'm not quite sure I understand. It flips back to the middle?
Why does my camera fall over when I’m shooting already ? Or if I move the camera to record upwards it’ll just fall over.
Would you recommend to balance with a vertical grip on the camera to avoid swapping out the camera battery ?
Once balanced, you can easily remove the camera and insert a new battery.
Evan Thomas so I balanced my camera with grip and it works fine. Thank you
Bro, you're awesome. Thanks! You made this so much easier!
thank you
Got my Crane 2 recently and your video was a godsend!
Hi Derek, I can't say that's ever happened to me. Are you sure it's balanced correctly? Is the camera too heavy? What's the weight setting set to"
@@EvanThomas Hi Evan- thanks for the reply!
Quick question:
Let's say I have two cameras. One is constantly on the gimbal and the other one is being used for photos. I have just one lens, so can I switch the lens between the camera on the zhiyun and the one for photos without having to calibrate the crane every single time from scratch? thank you!
yes you should be able to do that no problem. You'll just have to turn off the gimbal each time you want to swap the lens.
A BIG THAAAAANK YOU!!! Best tutorial available :D
thanks for watching Magdalena!
hi.... i mount my 5d mark 3 with 16-35 f4 lens....my camera does not stay at same place after balancing it....either it stays the way i leave it on tilt axis or roll motor axis.....but it does not stay on both the axis.....is the setup too heavy?...or am i doing it wrong....due to this i am not switching on the crane fearing it may damage the motors......pls help!!!
thanks for this helpful video.. how about nickon camras? is it defferent?
should work fine with a Nikon.
Super well done video, however I’m struggling. Sony A7iii with a Sigma 35mm art. The Roll axis in the back is balanced along with everything else, however when moving the roll axis it falls back to center regardless of which way I tilt it. Any ideas?
Hey man! Thanks a lot for this. Super clear and very helpful. You're a really good teacher! Subbed!!
thanks Jacob!
