  • Balancing a crane can be one of the trickiest parts of videography but if you don’t get it right your footage and your batteries will suffer. Each rig is a little different so you need to learn the basic rules in setting up your rig. David demonstrates how to do it wrong and then shows you how to do it right. And yes, there are some tricks that will make balancing faster and easier than ever.

    Thanks man for this video! There are many Crane 2 tutorials out there but yours one is my preferable as you got straight to the point without wasting watcher’s time :) I always watch your video when I forget the right balancing order of the crane as I switch gimbals from time to time :)

      @@MediaUnlocked Now that it's here I find that my camera is just a bit too big.
      That is unless I am doing something wrong. The camera is a Nikon D300S

      @@MediaUnlocked I think I found what my issue is. The modle I have is not the 2 but is in fact the V2. Camera is a T3i with an EFS 18~55

    I love the sequence you showed, which is different from any recommended. Yours make more sense. And the fact you have to go back to previous ones to get there. I would have mentioned to get the camera operation ready before balancing. Amazing video.

    I highly recommend when balancing the back axle, lift the camera in your hand. That reduces the strain on the motor and no more elbow grease!

    I always keep an ND on in case it goes crazy, could save your lens. Just leave it a tiny tiny bit front heavy and then take the ND off when ready to shoot.

    Fantastic video and such clear, helpful instructions. Thanks. Can I ask you a question - would you need to get a tripod that is compatible with this gimbal for ease of transfer between gear. Or, is any tripod ok and gimbal and tripod are used very much as two separate pieces of equipment....?? Thanks so much for your insight.

      There is a 1/4 screw hole on the bottom of the gimbal, so you can use any tripod with the same size screw.

    Thanks I’m gonna try to get it right this time. This always seems to be a challenge for me, and my Crane always ends up getting all wonky on me. Just FYI though, the words are “forward and backward“ in the singular. Not forwards and backwards.😀

    I balance it ok but when I turn it on it shakes and won’t stop. I turned the level to low for Sony cameras but still does it. Do I need to calibrate it with the new upgrade.

    I can’t seem to figure out what’s the problem i recently bought a sigma 18-35mm to go with my canon T7i and i can’t get it balanced and i know how to balance my other lens! ........Every time i face the lens up it’s falls back and i keep adjusting the side axle but it’s just continues to fall back i can get everything else balance but not the side axle! I also has a battery grip on my T7i maybe that’s affecting it?

      It seems that Crane2 not support vertical shooting. Crane 2S support vertical shooting.

      Yes you do. I use 2 lenes on and can balance super fast.

    Mine keeps trilling with 20 mm lens (lumix) my lens is too lightweight... I guess? If I balance it correct and then turn on.. it’s trilling so much and when I put it more backwards it’s less trilling.. but when I turn it off then my camera falls backwards... not logic at all .. I really think my body is too heavy in contrary with my lens.. is that possible? If I switch mode follow up and down also it does not trill....

      no, it is only for camera. You can refer to the Crane M3S/M3/M2S/M2, these can work with both camera and phone. But only support button control for camera. If you are looking for a gimbal that work with the phone, the Smooth series would be better.

    When the Zhiyun is powered-off it is balanced. I can turn it sideways and it stays balanced. When I power this thing on and turn it sideways it keeps going up and down (the back part). how to fix this..

      It take 2 days and i still can't figure it out how to balance the roller axis motor, it stay straight but when ever i tilt it doesn't stay on the position,it always came back to the original position
