  • Basically my opinion on what and why I run what I do. It has worked for me and it’s more of an explanation than anything else. Each setup has its place. In my cause this is what works for me.

Thanks for the diode details, I bought one for my '05 Sequoia after I saw your IG post. I ended up trimming the plastic with a razor knife which did not expose the internals of the diode. There are a bunch of options out there with adjustable voltage settings. This option is very simple which is why I like it. Even found some that retain the same 7.5a fuse so the Alt-S circuit is still fused.
I think single vs. dual comes down to how long folks stay put in camp, the availability of sun and the electrical demands coming from various accessories.
I very rarely sit in camp because I am driving trails, bouncing around to fishing spots or exploring and I end up in camp later in the day with a fully charged dual battery system. Like you explain, there is no one size fits all answer, people need to understand their needs and their camping style.
    Thanks for the info!

There is a Ford diode that is a direct fit too. Yeah I got trim happy but it’s not a big deal having it exposed.

@@Wonger559 Quick question, after my first day driving with the diode, I've noticed the voltage fluctuating quite significantly when pulling up to a stop. I'm running around at 14.6v while moving, and the voltage drops to as low as 12.7v at a red light. I don't remember my voltage fluctuating at all with the standard fuse installed.
Do you see the same results?

@@morgangriffith6226 mine stays right around 14.8 the entire time.

@@morgangriffith6226 so I did another check as I normally don’t watch my voltage outside of being in park/idle. Lowest mine got was around 14v. The voltage will vary depending on battery state of charge and loads. Dropping down to 12v seems kinda low for a vehicle that is running. Just make sure the diode is installed facing the correct way.

02 lexus ls430 with aftermarket audio system. Have 2 agm batteries. Bought the diode from orileys parts store for 5$ n voltage went from 13.6 to 14.2 at idle. Now my batteries getting charged properly. Have a volt meter so I can see my voltage

@@Wonger559 learned from your video and had to give it a try cause of my aftermarket audio system and running 2 agm batteries. Glad I did. Now my batteries will last me longer plus the amplifier is happy with the better voltage.

I do have a video uploaded showing my sequoia solar setup. Shouldn’t be hard to find. I haven’t posted that many videos since. Should be a Duracell AGM marine group 31 battery

Is your solar on a switch or is it on even while running? I've got a 20watt solar panel & controller on a interstate boat battery for about 5 years now and it's always topped off. I disconnect it when the trucks running not sure if I need to.

With a charge controller. You don’t need to disconnect anything. It’s fully auto and isolate as needed

Should work on any Toyota. Just make sure your battery can take that higher voltage charge.
