  • A nice addition to any Overland vehicle is a dual battery set up. Dual batteries protect the vehicles starter battery while allowing power to be drawn from an accessory battery. Powering auxiliary lights, radios, refrigerator, etc.

    Thanks for the helpful review. Definitely on the verge of overdoing it (wife thinks I passed that point a while ago)… Running a 2016 Tundra TRD and think this dual battery set up would just be smart.

      Glad it was helpful! It puts my worst fear to rest. Waking up in the middle of nowhere and a dead starter battery.

    Thanks for this video. I got a Tundra --- your setup is exactly how I wanted. Thanks again.

    Great video! I love how you mention the purchases can get out of control. I’ve got a 4Runner…. Bought it for some extra space…. Haven’t stopped adding things since I bought it 3 years ago. LOL!

    Nice touch to the bed for the twelve volt DC outlet I had planned on running a 3rd batter with inverter to provide a power station with AC/DC and Solar capability.

    I recently added a touch screen and sound system. One or the other dont work depending on the day. Im guessing i need a 2nd battery to help with that. This looks like it will do great! Thanks for the vid

    Just saw this video, great review! Wanted to ask how long has you ran your fridge on this set up? A day, 2 days , 3 days?

    • @thegearbunker9842
      @thegearbunker9842  2 роки тому

      The way I travel, the fridge runs all the time. But I'm running the vehicle engine each day as I move from site to site. I haven't done a long term, drain the batter test. The dual battery set-up really puts you mind at ease while running accessories. Knowing your starter battery is always fresh and ready to start the vehicle and recharge the "house" battery.

      Thanks for replying. My situation is a different . Most of my trips are a arrive Friday and leave Sunday kind of trips. Using a dometic 95l dz fridge uses more juice. In your opinion and experience using the genesis offroad system you think that would be enough to power the fridge?

      Where can I purchase the set up you have?

    Interesting it appears the install is not exactly squared up to the fuse box, I have a 2021 model and there is absolutely no room for the fuse box to go backwards towards the firewall, this is because the plastic protector extension on the back of the fuse box that holds the wiring harness in place with a factory zip tie gives no room for it to move due to the hydralic brake assembly.....

    Great video. I'm considering installing sPod switches or a GMRS radio in the overhead console of my Tundra. I remember in one of your videos your camera caught your sPod switches in the overhead console in the ceiling. Correct? How did you remove the overhead console and do the installation? Just pull down in the front to remove the entire thing? If not in one of your videos...I watch too much youtube :)

    Great video, did you opt to move your fuse box back or did it fit without needing to do that? I just ordered my kit and I already kind of planning what I’m going to need to do. Thanks!

      I believe the kit includes a few small brackets that move the fuse box back an inch or so. I did move mine back.

    Are you able to run your refrigerator at camp without the truck running? Do you have a means of recharging your accessory battery while the vehicle is parked?
    Thanks!

      My dual battery system has more than enough storage to run the fridge all day without the truck running. These fridges use very little electricity. In fact, my FJ has only 1 battery and it runs through the night with no issue. That being said, I do have solar options for both vehicles.

    Did you need to upgrade your alternator?

  • @NameL3ss71

    I noticed you have your battery offset somewhat than when compared to the video Odyssey does. Is this to counter moving the fuse box? I’m thinking of going this route for a dual battery just wasn’t too comfortable with moving around the OEM fuse box.

    • @thegearbunker9842
      @thegearbunker9842  4 роки тому +1

      If you have the factory LED headlamps, the fuse box needs to moved back 3/4". Genisis provides brackets to move it.

    • @jhartmac100
      @jhartmac100 Рік тому

      So how did that move go?

    • @NameL3ss71
      @NameL3ss71 Рік тому

      @@jhartmac100 I haven’t done this yet. I see they released a newer version which looks interesting. I had a lot of stuff going on in that area which makes for a difficult move but I’ve since relocated the air compressor and my switch-pro. Should make relocating that fuse box easier whenever I finally decide to get the dual battery set up.
