    Hey guys! I'm so so sorry for how long it's been since my last upload! There has been so many changes, it's just been taking some time to adjust. Anyway, I hope you enjoy this video on the reality of trucking, and how to cope with all of the challenges that you will face. Just remember that it's 99% your attitude, and 1% what actually happens. Keep a smile on your face, and keep on truckin'.

    Hey Shelby, I am a truck driver too, and I deal with challenges as most drivers do. Just look at each challenge/problem and ask yourself "If this is the biggest problem in my life, how good is my life?"
    A blown tire or a few hours sitting at a shipper is nothing compared to losing a loved one. Perspective is everything.

    Everything you’re saying about this industry is spot on. I’ve been driving for only 15 years, nothing compared to some, and it’s changed so much in that amount of time. Time can be accelerated to an unthinkable speed for us, I have so many memories of being on the road, but very few of my home and family and I have no idea where it all went. I really enjoy the content you put out here, and I’m positive is very useful to new comers. It’s quite entertaining, beautifully created and real to me. I hope you can keep the videos rolling out, even with your venture into teaming. Good luck!

    Shelby I have to say that the happiness I see in you during your job is refreshing. I've worked in a new car dealership as an automotive technician for 30 years and it has changed my attitude and not for the good. The wisdom you shared about how to deal with problems is beyond your years. You gave a lot of good advice. As Inky Johnson said "People don't burn out from what they do. People burn out because life makes them forget why they do it."
    Thanks for what you do as a truck driver and for sharing your adventures with us!

    With 28 years and 4 million miles in a big rig, I can honestly say trucking is absolutely one of the most mentally and physically stressful jobs you will ever have. It’s 90% bullshit and 10% fun... but I’m proud as hell for 4 million accident free miles so the everyday American can have what they need. Keep up the good vids young lady.. ur positivity is contagious.

    As a trucker and from a family of truckers...the biggest thing I see out there with trucking is --> "ATTITUDE" and like you said how you deal with it. You control what is happening to you. Myself I stay self sufficient with proper food in the truck, porta toilet, several gals of water, and proper supplies for the truck. Staying on top of scheduled maintenance is key and helps avoid breakdowns. Blown tires are part of the job...Try to limp it to a tire repair if close and try to find a safe place to pull over to have it repaired...I enjoy my job and workout on the road, have CX bike, and tons of entertainment. Keep your mind busy (reading, music, etc...) and it helps with depression.... KEEP ON TRUCKIN!

    I only laughed at your spilled coffee , because I have been there and done it many times. I had a coffee once , was driving a work van . I left it on the roof and drove away . Everything was covered , once I hit the brakes . Roof , windshield , hood side . What can you do , laugh at yourself and carry on . The look on your face , was priceless ! You have a great attitude , very positive . You can be lonely anywhere , I retired at age 56 in 2015 , after a massive stroke at work . I had to repair much of myself , on my own . I live with my tiny 5 pound Chihuahua Freddy , who is protective like Dakota is by you . I enjoy watching your travels . I had a motorhome I ran to Key West in 2017 and 2018 with Freddy . It wasn't easy on me , but I did it . I always watch to the end !

    I’ve been driving locally for a company for over 15 years. Some of it is heavy-haul containers out of shipping ports. It’s hourly with overtime pay and full benefits. I’ve never worked nights and I’ve never worked on the weekends. I also never have to touch the freight! OTR is a hard and many times a very frustrating way to make a living. Living on the road on a whole sucks in my opinion. Been there and done that. My advice to unhappy truckers? Get some quality OTR experience and then with a good driving record try to secure a good local driving job. I sleep in my own bed every night and I eat food from home every day. The “adventure” of driving and living “over the road” gets old fast. Take care and be safe out there!

    • @rcflyer7788
      @rcflyer7788 4 роки тому

      @Steve Robertson You’re right, it depends on the person. It also depends on where and how they want to spend their free time. I like having my nights and weekends off which in my mind anyway equals freedom. I definitely don’t miss sleeping and showering at truck stops. Take care and stay safe.

    • @rcflyer7788
      @rcflyer7788 4 роки тому +1

      @Zanda Williams It depends on your particular job. Some jobs you never have to touch the freight, while other jobs you have to help load and unload. And of course that’s usually after driving for a long distance. Training time depends on the school and/or the company you intend to work for. Driving school is usually about 30 days and then you go out with a trainer on the road for a few weeks or so. Some people can “stack up” some money while driving over the road while others continually blow a lot of their money by eating at expensive truck stops. I used to save a lot of money by trying to eat in my truck. You can set it up with a fridge and microwave. Shop at a grocery store and dine in your rig. I hope this helps.

Those are very powerful lessons and tactics you described, very emotional for me because I relate to them 💯. iv drove truck for a bit after getting my class A and to see you approaching it with such a consistent and positive outlook really is moving. keep up the videos and keep killen out there, but most importantly stay safe! 🌎🥂

    Shelby, love your videos and your enthusiasm about your work. I’m not a trucker myself but I’ve always found it intriguing and your videos are the same. Thank you so much for taking the time to make and edit these videos to give us all a behind the scene and mind of a trucker. I’m glad you formed a team and I wish you the best of luck!! Hopefully you keep making the videos as it gives me more motivation to get out there and do what I do as I’ve been doing the same thing for 36 years haha!! Be safe out there!!!

    Excellent intro. Loved it. This is the first video I have seen of yours. I love trucking. I drove many years ago for just a short time. Was going to get back in but became disabled. You know, there is good and bad with any career. It's what you make of it. You have a good head on your shoulders and it seems you are using it. I have liked and subscribed. Have fun, stay safe and stay healthy.

    I love these videos! My dad is an OTR trucker and has been for a very long time, and I turned him on to your channel and he loves it. I've been considering getting into trucking for a long time, and your videos totally inspire and enlighten me. I really appreciate you doing this!! Talking about compassion to truckers ... what a beautiful idea!! I want people to be kinder to, and more considerate of truckers and basically everyone else on the road. We appreciate you all ... you are the beating heart of our economy and the source of so many of our comforts ... often at the expense of your own. Love to you all, and be safe out there!! Thank you, Shelby!!

    Shelby-Thank you for sharing your real feelings. We all experience doubt, frustration, anxiety, fear, stress, loneliness from time to time. This just means you are part of the human race. Here are a couple ideas that I use when talking to myself (in no order of importance even though I numbered them). #1---It's only a problem if it can't be fixed. #2---I'm not in charge of the world, and all the outcomes. I do my job , you do yours--And I let you do yours. #3---Sometimes "shxx" happens, out of your control, move on, don't get bogged down with little stuff. #4---"......to Accept the things I cannot change, Awareness of the things I can change, and Wisdom to know the difference."
    Self talk is good, be fair and compassionate with yourself, but always be honest. My last idea I got from a wall hanging in our house, it says: #5-- "Ideas become real at the point of action." Isn't that true. All my planning, all my scrutinizing, all my evaluating is pointless if I take no action.
    Thanks for sharing,
    Dick M

    I am not a truck driver. If I knew more about it when I was young enough, I would probably have given it a try. I'm too old now, I'm 80. Anything you do in life is met with apprehension. Always questioning your ability, willingness, dedication and, are you up to the challenge. If you want it bad enough, you will find a way. I always told my daughter, "If it was easy, anybody could do it", but anybody can't do it, they would have to be strong like you. Anxiety is just another bump in the road that you have to get passed. Every obstacle in life is an opportunity in disguise. Solving problems makes you stronger. If it's any consolation to you, I have gained new respect for truck drivers by watching your channel.

    Shelby I work in the trucking industry and your channel has re-inspired my passion for what we do. I handle operations, I’ve never driven a truck. But you and your energy remind me what it means to remain positive and how that rubs off on other people. I am happier with my job and have been pushing to do more since I discovered happiness by the mile.

    The best thing about trucking is that you can always get out of it. Do not pigeon hole yourself into a truck. Keep options open so you can leave once you have had enough (or when you are about to be replaced by automation).

    I am so happy I found your channel. I think you are such a huge inspiration for women everywhere doing the job you do! But mostly, you are a huge inspiration to me. I am not a truck driver, but I struggle with major anxiety on the daily and it keeps me from doing the things I want to do most of the time. Watching you put yourself out there and work incredibly hard transforming every curve ball thrown in your path has helped me in ways I can't express in words. My anxiety sometimes creeps in when I'm driving, (especially before I'm preparing to go on a long road trip) and I totally do this whole "What Would Shelby Do" thing! You are just freaking awesome, please keep putting out these videos. They mean more to people than you know. Keep on truckin'!

    Found this channel last night, I'm going for my "B" road test soon; I'll get my A eventually when I can figure out the whole trailer thing. But one thing she touched on 6 or so minutes in, truckers feeling under appreciated. When the rona came everyone loved truckers, now that things are "kinda" normal its back to status quo. I've been cut off more than once and I've been on the road for like 6 days! Training! In a vehicle I'm very comfortable with; (been moving them around the yard for years.) Came here to say, I appreciate you all, especially the OTR drivers. I'm right there with you, facing all the same compliance laws just in a motorcoach. Brothers and sisters keeping the country moving. Let's go

    Congratulations, I drove truck for 20 years for the railroad and it can be stressing at times. I was at home driving my car back from the store and I lost my voice. Thought it was from starting to get sick. But lt turned out to be lung cancer. Never got my voice back. Never did treatment and was supposed to only live till last January but I am still here by the grace of God. All I am saying is, there is nothing in this world to stress about. What ever problem rises will get fixed. My thing I miss most about working was stopping and seeing things along my way. Like Lincolns tomb in Illinois John Waynes house and I used to stop a lot at American pickers in Iowa. Your young enjoy life and remember, everything always works out. Love your videos. I know your parts of the woods, I am in layton.

    I’m not a very religious person however, the Serenity Prayer has always helped me accept the various challenges of life. Acceptance can be a powerful state of mind. And don’t set your goals out of reach or unrealistic.
