The nuns who run the college made a public statement: "The sisters of Mount St. Scholastica do not believe that Harrison Butker's comments in his 2024 Benedictine College commencement address represent the Catholic, Benedictine, liberal arts college that our founders envisioned and in which we have been so invested," the nuns wrote in a statement posted on Facebook.
IMO nuns are just disgruntled "Brides of Christ" who have to be virgins, poor, and obedient who wear a ring and can't even sleep with their "husband." Wonder if they have fantasies about that? hmmmm...... My sincere apologies to most nuns. It is a sort of a vocation - akin to a career or motherhood.
From the reaction I thought he was going to call for women to be treated as property, instead he states that raising a family is fulfilling and fathers need to stop abandoning children and work with their wives to raise healthy families.
Lmao he’s talking about gay people being sinful, society pushing degenerate cultural values in media, abortion, surrogacy, IVF, and a bunch of other shit that has nothing to do with graduation.
@@jakeclayson7647 lol he only advocated for women to be become housewives. And that his wife gave up her dreams so he could live his. Where’s the other way around? What about the nuns who chose not to have children or the people who can’t? Will they just never be fulfilled then? Oh no 🙄. His whole womens spiel was undermining to the work they just did getting a degree and basically said ok that’s cute now go serve your family so your husband can rise. He defined their worth by homemaker rather than partner. He is also telling women what they should be rather than choosing. So no that’s not what he says. The nuns at the school even agreed it was out of touch and distasteful.
Telling a bunch of women that worked their ass to get their college degree that they should not use it and are better off as homemakers in a speech that is supposed to encourage them to use their degree is just downright condescending. Reminds me of my time in the military, being constantly compared to military spouses. Which happened ALL THE TIME. No, there is nothing wrong with being a stay at home mom. There is a time and place to celebrate a woman's achievements. In a college graduate speech, you should celebrate their achievements as college graduates and encourage them to use their degrees as they see fit. In a military appreciation speech you celebrate military members, you damn sure don't compare military spouses to military members. WE ARE NOT THE SAME THING! There is plenty of occasions to celebrate stay at home mothers and military wives and they should absolutely get their recognition too. But stop comparing every single woman to a homemaker. I'm so sick of all of my achievements being considered less than a man's with the same job while also being treated as less than a woman because I not only work, but work in a male dominated field. If I had a nickel for every person that treated me as a threat to marriage and fidelity because I go on deployments, well, I'm not sure how many nickels I'd have, but it would be a lot.
Very ignorant, this is a catholic school, many of which agree wholeheartedly to what he is saying, especially judging from the claps and the ovation that he got. You don’t have to agree with it, he is talking to the people in the building who believe in what god offers. Just like a person can talk about being against god, a person can talk about the amazing things god can do. You are not the right audience for this speech and that is okay, but to label him as a bad guy because he has his own beliefs is crazy. He did not say one thing that is wrong. His wife loves him and that’s what matters, he is a good man and a good father, and a great influence to the football world and the real world as well. I suggest you try to take something away from what he is saying instead of going for his throat for an opinion he addresses.
You only heard what you wanted to hear. He's not taking away any accomplishment from women, nor is he saying that having a career means nothing. He's saying that they must be just as excited to start a family as well as having a career.
@@_Boobear_ he literally said that anyone telling a woman she can have a career is a liar. He is absolutely saying women shouldn't have careers and won't be happy unless they stay at home and have babies. He wasn't subtle about it either. He spelled it all out. You are saying what you want to hear.
@mestillme3026 he is not saying that at all. He's saying they can have a fulfilling career alongside making a family. And there's nothing wrong with having a family, you could ask any successful woman with kids in the workplace what they enjoy more Their job or their kids? And they'll say their kids. It's not a terrible thing to be a mother.
Not my cup of tea at all. BUT as we all do in the U.S. (unless its is illegal speech), he has the right to his beliefs and the right to say them - afterall, he is a practicing Catholic speaking at a Catholic University. They asked him to share his thoughts, which he does in a thoughtful and sincere manner. My opinion: Formal religions do good and also do harm, and too often they want the female to be subservient to the male, which I reject as a necessary stance. I have experienced too much harm from formal religions to engage with them personally. His is a too conventional take on the world today for my tastes, but I acknowledge his right to express his opinions - without being attacked.
I appreciate your openness. I would recommend considering how genuinely joyful women are who humbly submit (it's a bad word with many accreded connotations in today's culture but at its root is fitting) to their husbands compared to those women who attempt to be the same as men. Regarding formal religion: The harm that you experienced from them is horrible. You shouldn't let it, though, get in the way of your eternal salvation by jeprodizing your relationship with the Catholic Church. I don't know which religion(s) the people who hurt you professed, but remember that the Catholic Church makes no claim that her members (let alone those outside her flock) will not do evil. On the contrary, she affirms that none of us will be made wholly perfect on this side of Heaven. Thank you for reading this and God bless.
@@yomanxy I would recommend considering that you have no earthy idea what you're talking about or the challenges woman have had to deal with being oppressed by organized religions for thousands of years. REALLY question how many have "chosen" to "humbly submit" and how many more were given no such choice.
If, at my graduation speech - after I had worked hard to earn a degree, put in long hours, and made sacrifices (not to mention bearing the financial burden of attending college or university) - I'd frankly feel a bit insulted if a man was highlighting motherhood and homemaking during our class' commencement speech. Sure, emphasizing strong roles as mothers and fathers in society is beneficial for everyone, but graduation is a time to reflect on academic accomplishments. Not to mention that AS women and mothers, there's a ton of reasons why we don't make it to graduation, and those reasons often directly involve raising, or being responsible for, children. So, religion and personal beliefs aside, let's remember that we as women should be very proud of all our academic, personal, and career accomplishments. Yes, motherhood is a wonderful calling, but it's also between you and God to decide if that calling is actually for you. In the meantime, don't let the absence of mother or wifehood in your life make you feel any less of a woman. All this tradwife nonsense is popular these days, but it's important to remember that a woman should also work hard to provide for herself and not be lulled into a false sense of security by her husband's money or career. Even this Butker fellow could get his head bashed in on the field one too many times and not be able to provide for his wife the way he is now. So it's important to keep that in mind, ladies. God didn't put you on this earth just to spread your legs and push a baby out nine months later. The God I believe in has a unique, amazing plan for you that is multifaceted and involves fulfilling your heart's desires, utilizing your gifts and creativity, and so much more. Let's not get bogged down in the weeds with tradition and focus on how we can improve society and its resources as a whole when it comes to education, parenting, and career paths.
It's important to have a career and to find passion for what you do. However, nothing will matter if later in life there is nobody to share it with, because this is important as well. What's wrong is the idea of having to choose one or another...
Butker's mother is an oncologist and highly accomplished woman, and she graduated from this same school. Him telling this graduating class to embrace their destiny as mothers and homemakers is the epitome of privilege - do as I say, not as I do. He would have been a hit in the 1940s - in 2024, not so much. Time for the guy who kicks a ball around a field to rethink his life.
I would say he and his mother living through that situation might be precisely why he made the statement. She wouldn't be the first career woman to say that her family and raising kids meant a lot more to her than a career at the end of her life. I think the positive feedback from women that we've seen after his speech is a sign that many are craving some of those values from the 40s and 50s.
At the end of your life do you think your career is gonna hold your hand? Or your children? Family IS what matters most in this life- no matter if you’re a man or a woman. It’s the only true legacy you’ll have.
@@CharliesTheMan Thank you for your respectful response. I applaud women and men who successfully raise a family and have a career, or women who choose to be homemakers without pursuing a career, what is referred to as the traditional family for some, not for all. But what he inferred, knowingly or not, was that women stand behind their men as homemakers, and this is where they belong. We can't deny the reaction his words have garnered, and perhaps in the future he could better choose the way he conveys his message.
I don't think he said that at all. He said he can go do what he does because he has a wife who allows him to do so. Also majority of women do hope to be married and have children. Not all but most. We are stretched thin when you try to hold all the ropes...
@@grcly3nYou might make a big mistake if you're depending on your children to be there for you when you're old.I'm a nurse, and worked for a long period with the elderly. There are thousands of elderly peeople being thrown into care homes by their children, and totally forgotten about until it's time to collect any inheritence when they've gone.I've seen this time after time after time.
It is easy to say that women will get the most joy from being a mother, wife, and homemaker- but if you do not have the financial ability to do that - then you will find very little joy in watching your kids be hungry - or stressing about how you will put gas in your car- or keep a roof over your heads. These are basic things that thousands of people worry about every single day. And if you happen to be with a man that mistreats you then being a subservient homemaker is not joyful and satisfying - it is easy to talk like that when you are not concerned about money.
Yes all that is true but when you are leaning on Gods understand and His will then all of the above worries mean nothing because He always makes away and what God gives you is not given just for you to lose He always makes a way.
@@lindsaycaffey9943 Yes I trust God too and totally understand your point and what you are saying. It is because of my faith that I have been able to be calm in the midst of storms. I pray for others to have peace of mind, heart and soul too. Many blessing to you.
I think he said, so that women will not elevate their Ego too higher, as the more your ego is higher the more likely to take the position of a man as a head of family and underestimate his Manhood as a result Division of thought and lack of respect from wife to Husband.
Lol he did NOT say that women had to be stay-at-home moms to accomplish those things, though as a society we can all recognize that it would be easier to do as such. He recognized the women who do value their families over their careers, and then he later encouraged both men and women to keep it that way... where is the controversy in that?
This speech can’t be real, I watched the whole thing absolutely stunned. Firstly this is not what I expected as a commencement speech, usually those are about “new chapters” “becoming future leaders” “the next generation” or even advice and wisdom. This speech was none of that, it was just his opinions, almost like an ‘in person twitter rant’. Now I can understand people saying “free speech” which i completely get and support, however a commencement ceremony is NOT the place for that (without me even getting into how wrong some of the homophobic, transphobic, anti-women’s health/anti-choice and sexist things).
I would like to clarify, this is in no way hating on the church, I respect religion. This is me shocked at what he has twisted the teachings of god into. It is also about him abusing the platform he was given to spread opinions rather than give a meaningful speech with good advice for these graduates.
Benedictine is a Catholic college. Wit requires intelligence, you only have ignorance so you can only point at things and say "ignorant" since thats your core value
Lets just add this bit. He said "as a Catholic" while giving a speech at a Catholic University. You're the ignorant one for taking the words of a specific moment to people who share his religion and thinking he's talking about everyone. No, everyone just got in their selfish ignorant feelings because they have no emotional stability
He said what every other Catholic with a platform was afraid to say. The truth is hard to accept, that's why most Catholics can't handle this commencement speech. Don't ever change Harrison.
Exactly. Congrats ladies... oh and get me a beer and quick or I'll teach you not to mind. And I was blessed with talent, I can kickypoo that ball over there. Ain't I talented?
Just the fact that he said the Holy Ghost I haven't heard that expression since I was a kid going to Sunday school and church @ a New England Congregational Church. It actually brought tears to my eyes.
A Catholic priest told me that it was imperative that I divorce my abusive husband. No, it’s not appropriate. This narrative enables abuse in the name of the faith.
Your bias is showing, most Catholics are open-minded people, Butker is bringing his own personal opinions to this graduation speech. it is not a sin in the Catholic church to be gay they are encouraged in their behavior in the same way non gay Catholics are encouraged. Do not to pretend to know us.
@@snowyrain5730 and there you go and downplay every religion except catholic. That is my issue with religion. Everyone thinks their religion is the only REAL religion.
"as men, we set the tone of the culture, and when that is absent, disorder, dysfunction, and chaos set in". Gulp. Women are setting the tone and culture in homes and businesses around the world and in many cases that is a less violent and more compassionate setting. Not chaos.
The United Statees has more women in power now then ever, and the United States is entirely more violent and less compassionate then it was 30 years ago lol.
I take it as a call for men to be present in the community, help lead, inspire, and in a biblical way which is with compassion…not the stereo type of anger and power that you are rightfully concerned about
And you think those girls wanted to hear him poopoo their decision to go to college? Because that’s what he did. Why not let people make their own choices without telling them what you expect of them. Just because it’s good for you, doesn’t make it good for everyone. Mind your business!
He isn't only talking about God and his faith though. He talks about politics and over reach. Which I agree with, but he is using this platform to push his own views and preaches 'staying in your lane'. Progress does not happen when people 'stay in their lane'. This ideology is the opposite message I would want to impart to the next generation.
Not haters. Criticism that is called for. Know the difference. No doubt he'll go and vote for the convicted con man who had sex with a porn star while his wife was at home with an infant.
There’s always going to be a “what if” argument for literally every topic/ belief. He simply said that many of the women in that audience will find fulfillment not in careers but in creating families. That doesn’t mean that ALL will or that it’s the only way. But he simply is removing the stigma that being a housewife / holding traditional values is backwards or misogynistic in some way.
He’s saying if you have the chance, don’t be afraid to take it. … Some people have the chance, but they think it’s a bad choice because they’ve been brainwashed by society to think it’s a bad choice. If you never got the chance, focus on the good things that ARE in your life. The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence. Some people are trapped in a bad marriage and wish they were single and envy single women. The saying is, “Bloom where you’re planted.” Life is like Swiss cheese. There are always going to be holes, but don’t focus on the holes. The secret is to focus on the cheese (good things) and not the holes. Your life is a gift and so valuable and important. You don’t have to be a wife and mother to be important. I was a single mom and my single brother who never married or had children was so very very important in my child’s life as she grew up. I often felt that he had no idea how important he was. People don’t realize how important they are. Be a light to the world, whoever and wherever you are in your life. That’s the beauty of faith in God. Everyone is so important because we’re made by God and loved by him. 😊
12:00, this part was an attack on women... Let Isabel do her thing.. he is crying...she should be crying 😭... Not every woman ♀️ will be career less... Sheesh
That’s the problem friend- someone-even a bigot should be able to express him or herself WITHOUT consequences. This is his opinion that I don’t entirely agree with but we must never silence those we agree, or more importantly, those we disagree with. Diversity of views, opinions and thought must be embraced in the public forum.
@@Ebgb3150 I agree, but we are a dyeing breed. The irony is that the traditional Platonic/Socratean ideal as shown in Phaedrus, where both sides want to reach the truth and help each other on the way is, or was, the basis of western education. Now the university is the one place where it can’t happen. We are in big trouble. Maybe someone like Stephen Fry should say more on this.
I agree, if someone doesn’t understand what is happening at Mass, translating it from Latin into the vernacular is not going to help, as the meaning is beyond the individual words. The Bible, catechism, magisterium, Aquinas, Augustine, Rahner and the Prayers of the Mass are all available in English for those who want a deeper understanding to read, so that when they walk into the Church the meaning is already in their heart, then the language truly doesn’t matter., and they can concentrate on loving God rather than having their nose stuck in a book trying to read the words throughout. Preparation is everything, and Gods love is not for Mass only, but for every minute.
Latin is the language of Catholicism. Everything he spoke was patient understanding and sensible - IF we are showing True Love - True love wants the ultimate plan for all - Heaven - we need to give Truth to help souls get There and help His Kingdom grow as well ;)

Everyone focused on the women bring mothers etc part. But interesting to not see the forest for the trees when in the beginning he says the Church has weak priests and bishops and we need to return to the olden days..........when throughout history faith has been used time and time again as a platform to push their own agenda.....like he's doing with his speech. And just in a church-history perspective, saying someone's greatest vocation is motherhood is negative IQ reading comprehension. Literally how many examples of saints being called by God to be single and serve ONLY others. Not just get married an have a family. Sure traditional family values have great value for society and the church, but so do powerful women leaders inspiring others. One is not inherently more fulfilling or more holy and that's God's choice to give someone a calling so saying motherhood is the BEST vocation is just dumb. And if that's the case, why doesn't he speak MORE on his own experience as father and husband as his vocation in the speech??? And the thread of the vocation as a fulfillment of hist calling from God is completely lost. There are some truth to it but a lot of this is just opinion. Which is fine and shouldn't be blown up the way it has. Also from a narrative perspective, his thesis statement of "staying in your lane" doesn't make sense with what he's saying?????? He's telling these kids to be spiritual leaders because we have weak ones now so wtf does that even mean in this context? "Nothing natural about Catholic-birth-control". Times change. Bruh we have Just-War Theory; ideas that conflict have to exist in how humans exist. And the pope LITERALLY is okay with gay people existing. But I guess Buttker thinks he knows better than the #1 spiritual leader rn. Coolcool. And he talks about how great saint in Hawaii is for chilling with lepers because they were a marginalized (and sick) group. But using his own broken-logic view of LGBTQ people, if you see them as broken and they are definitely still marginalized, then regardless you should still show them love and respect. Rule number one is humans made in God's image so even those you're against you treat with respect and not publicly make weird jabs. Again, fine to have an opinion but people should not gain any groundbreaking wisdom from it...and kind of a bad speech with random thru-lines. He is right there are bad leaders if this guy is sparking some revolution though because a lot of this is just opinions that Catholics THINK they have to think and breeds animosity and hate either externally from those outside the religion because he's not even properly depicting the ideas he's trying to convey; or breeds hate internally in himself or other Castholics against those who don't follow their standards. Imagine thinking yourself a Christian and thinking being forceful is the way to help other humans get closer to God LOL Also mans really cares about Latin Mass as if Catholic parishes/marriages/schools haven't been on the decline in the US...... Sure that'll really bring people in the doors.
I’m sure he thinks being called to be a religious is as important or more so than being a mother, that’s tradition. The Latin Mass congregations were growing, and the novus ordo Mass attendence was falling, until Francis gave bishops the authority to cancel Latin Mass in their diocese, because they were growing so quickly. Francis said the Latin Mass was getting so popular that it was causing division within the church. That’s not an opinion.
You don’t say what your faith is, or if you’re an atheist. You don’t sound as if you are a practicing Catholic or a Christian who’s involved with the church, because you use the language of an atheist rather than a Catholic or Christian ( what I used to call “ Churchspeak “ before I became a Christian). There’s nothing wrong whatever you are, I’m just curious, because, as a Catholic convert from an Anglican Christian, and before that an atheist, Ive been all of them, and it’s useful to know how others see us.
The odd thing to me is the very people who cry out for INCLUSION, are the VERY same people who do the cancel culture thing. The very concept of this does not go together.
That is just not the case. We see just as much cancel culture on the right as we do on the left. Look at all the Republicans that dare disagree with Donald Trump even on the smallest things who have had their entire party excommunicate them.
Says stay in your lane too much, talks about my body, hates gays, etc etc etc.....seems like alot of people getting all bunched up on what the man had to say to a CATHOLIC AUDIENCE about CATHOLIC values and CATHOLIC BELIEFS. FACT...... He was invited to give a speech by the university and his speech was pre approved. If you dont like what he has to say, move on. I especially appreciated his appraisal of the poor job that the Catholic Leadership has done and is doing in leading the Church: a result of amoral men are put in charge of morality. There maybe some things in the speech that rub some people the wrong way, but you have to admire a person that is willing put his beliefs in public view for all to scrutinize.
Classic case of a strong, non-degenerate Man, offering a Role Model, to people who look like him. The people who built the greatest Nations in human history.
The blame shouldn't only be on him but on the people who put him on stage this kind of speech don't come out of the blue, people like him are always showing up the red flags no excuse for this shit happening
At a Catholic college where they value family above all else... The entire lead up to a woman's role in her family's lives was the required role of men and how men are failing. And yet women across the country are angry that he said at a catholic college to catholic students that men are required to provide for their wives and children and yet still women are the most important person in their family's lives. And family is much more valuable than any career. If Catholic values offend you then just repeat what modern Hollywood and music has been telling Catholics for years "it's not for you" and move on. I get it - it's fun to be angry online. But let's not be angry out of ignorance or to be included in the latest trend.
No. We live in a society and everyone behavior and beliefs effect the others, one way or the other. So no, I don't want to be surrounded by a bunch of idiots because of this guy's ignorance and stupidity.
Yeah that's not he said lmfaoo. He said "Women, whatever you do, it'll be nothing as good as being a mom because my wife's life sucked before she married me". Probably the most narcissistic thing to say. This dude is screwed up in the head.
I grew up Catholic, but have been dating a Protestant for two years. Had this guy kept the specifics about Catholic leaders out of it, I would have thought I was listening to a Protestant speak. The Catholic Churches I grew up in felt more relaxed than what I’ve heard from Protestants. That being said, I was at a different church today, a Baptist service, and it was super casual. The other Protestant church feels like you’re attending a bible study with a theology professor, while the Baptist one felt like Catholic praise and worship with an easy to digest 15 min sermon. So maybe it just depends on what specific church you hang with.
Pre Vatican 2 Catholicism is very different from Post Vatican 2 Catholicism.Anglican Liberals are more like Vatican 2 Catholics. Anglicanism has been infiltrated by Marxism, and no longer believe in the other dimension or eschatology, but is only interested in installing liberal values.
"he's entitled to his opinion and beliefs" true but his opinions and beliefs are fkn stupid lol and to use a commencement speech to platform your own political agenda is wild. mad embarrassing, especially bringing up IVF and abortion....at a graduation??
lol as if liberals don’t use their celebrity status as platforms for political agendas either. I agree that politics don’t belong in most settings, but liberals push that shit everywhere. Schools, Oscar’s and other celebrity award shows, sports, etc. 🙄
It's not a POLITICAL agenda. It's a Catholic belief system. He's a CATHOLIC man speaking to CATHOLICS in a CATHOLIC school about CATHOLIC beliefs and life.
That was your choice - you didn’t have some random nfl player telling you to do it. And if you couldn’t have been a mother then you would feel differently
Good message. As an executive I've counseled over 300 people on their careers. Too often that discussion becomes cathartic and turns to tears. As a society we do...often...based on expectations of others and not what's in our heart. Each of us, had been given a gift from God to use our talents wisely and contribute our best to society in the service of others. If you want to live a good long life you have to love what you are doing. If you go to work each day with no spring in your step...no excitement...then you aren't following your ikigai. A spiritual life is a part of each of us as Catholics. Don't ignore that vocation even when contributing to society with your God given talents in a non-religious manner. If you are contributing to the further advancement of society...feel proud.
The narrow-minded morality qualifications explicitly laid out here is why I left Catholicism. These views are also expensive and come from a place of privilege.
You are complaining about a belief system saying “x is right, y is wrong” while at the same time saying “I am right, that belief system is wrong.” Just say “I disagree” and be done with it, don’t make the illogical leap of saying it’s “narrow minded” to have a belief at all.
He has now joined the club of men who make their little comments about morality, but then later on get caught with one of their feet in the closet. He’d better be careful
I totally respect everything he said. I am agnostic and truly want to believe. My problem with his speech is that he has condemned the world for all of their current societal ills, but I can not wrap my head around the fact that sexual assault and abuse is Sooooooooo prevalent in the Catholic religion. Like, before you judge the world, fix yourselves. No hate at all, this is just one of the reasons I have such a hard time listening to people like this. I would appreciate any insight..
He begins his speech by condemning the poor leadership in the church and says we need to start with ourselves before judging others. Start watching at @4:20
He judges the Catholic leadership too. One does not have to be perfect to see the flaws in society. We are all flawed human beings but that doesn’t mean we have to be blind to wrongdoings.
Women and men can be whatever they want to be in 2024… homemaking is wonderful and a lost art! Kids need to have a parent that is home with them i truly believe this. I wish i could have been! Our quality of life would have been a lot better. People these days just really hate anything conservative. I am not pro catholic at all but when anyone speaks out about being anything that is conservative everyone goes up in arms.
Nah, it’s the meaning behind the conservative rhetoric people take issue with. As if to say to women, if you don’t aspire to be a stay at home mom, who is an outspoken “catholic” and believes that diversity, equity and inclusion shouldn’t be a thing in the work place then you are worthless. Pretty rich coming from someone whose mom is a physicist, but then again it goes to show the bitterness he feels towards his own mom not having her whole existence be about a husband and children, while losing her own identity.
There is no such thing as “a persons truth.” There is only THE truth. If you believe that Christianity is true for some people and not for others, you are either not a Christian at all or too cowardly to take a strong stance despite the personal conflict it might create.
Thoughtful provocation of your faith. I take some exception with your singular critique of one president vs many. As a Catholic President he leads all people and can disagree with abortion while supporting our constitution…and the separation of church and state So yes, please do follow your faith, pronounce it as well…but your personal faith is separate from of our government There is only room in government for universal values…our constitutional values that can represent all people…freedom of speech and pursuit of liberty I suppose you’ll hold the same disdain for a President that his lived a life of lies, fraud, conspiracy, insurrection, and unfaithful relationships That should also go along with the same critique of the corporations that have bought off priests, our politicians, and people Well spoken for the power of women and the traditional role of the male in society… Great communication of your faith…I hope it crosses both parties 🙏
Jose Maria Escriva the person he makes several references to is the founder of OPUS DEI, the radical Catholic extremist sect. Everyone should look them up, there are reports on them and their methods that will give you goosebumps.
We need to be okay with differing views. This is a view that has been put down and even now is being picked apart just because he shared his view. Everyone gets to have their say. THAT's democracy. Deal with it. You CAN say that you disagree and make your points. That's your right, too. But name calling and put downs are not acceptable.
This isn’t just a “differing view”. This is telling women their place. That although they have done SO MUCH to get a degree, they still haven’t fulfilled their “true role”. What about his mom who is an obgyn and all the research she’s done. What about the people who can’t have kids. What about the NUNS at the school who chose not to be a wife but rather serve god. This wealthy guy has no idea about income and children. I was fortunate to have an academic career. I am a proud mother and had a professional career. Without me our family would not have had sufficient income. I needed to teach. I also wanted that. And if you are going to spend a large income for college, don't you want to use your education? Women should have choice to work, to be wives and mothers or to remain single. I'm sure this man loves his wife. If a woman has the choice to be home, great. If she chooses a career, great. Women need support to develop and grow in the way that makes them feel whole.
@@stephanielibbert1668 I would feel guilty leaving my pets to go out to work. I can’t imagine why or how someone can have children and go out to work. If I couldn’t afford to stay at home, I would not have the children in the first place. Unfortunately people nowadays have been brought up to believe they should have everything they want and keep the mentality of a spoilt child even when they’re the parent. I don’t like this selfish, grasping world, it doesn’t make anybody happy in the end. Have you seen how neurotic and aggressive a lot of working mothers are. They look like they’re taking far too much harmful medication just to function. They need to be gentler on themselves for the sake of their children, husband and marriage. How many working women’s husbands cry when talking about the role of their wife in the family.
@@carkizz I think she was the one who missed the whole point of her own comment. When someone becomes a mother her moral duty is to care more about her child getting the support to develop and grow in the way that makes them feel whole., not the mother. The mother as a parent becomes the one responsible for providing that for her child. Who wants a mother who demands everyone in the family puts her needs first. Awful. She’s already grown to adulthood, if having a child and putting it first isn’t going to add to her development, don’t have one.
First of all, I had to work unless I wanted welfare. Second, because of me and my husband my sons respect women for how they rear children and for their strength in the workplace. Also fathers need to care for their children, too. My father was never at home. My husband often cared for my children, and, as grown men, my sons feel a eternal bond with my departed husband. Whether one works outside the home or not morality is the honesty to be truthful, not to steal or cheat, to appreciate what we can do in the world.
I grew up with the Latin Mass. I believe that the Mass should be said in the vernacular of those attending. Those who attend Mass can better focus on the prayers of the Priest saying the Mass. They can focus on the Eucharistic prayer of the Priest for the Church, its members, its Bishop and the Pope. They especially need to understand and be attentive to the words being spoken during the consecration. They need to truly pray the Agnus Dei in their own language. I along with many others believe languages can be difficult to learn One has lo learn the meaning and the pronunciation. This can take away one’s focus which is more centered on pronouncing the words correctly. I believe that there are enough distractions at Mass as it is. Mass said in the language of the person who is viewing this Holy and solemn celebration allows that person to give their attention to the miracle happening before them at every Mass. The Miracle of Transubstantiation! God Bless

Why do you feel the need to push this onto those of us who aren’t catholic or simply don’t want to live this way? For example: if you don’t believe in abortions or contraception don’t get/use them.

Men were sent to die in crusades. Stop being one sided
Bro that's how it is for men and women. Back in the day the men where kidnapped to work in the military as slaves. Especially during the crusades.

We can't deny the reaction his words have garnered, and perhaps in the future he could better choose the way he conveys his message.

God's language is love and not Latin. Period. Love is patient, understanding and sensible
As a Catholic I say Amen to that

Imagine thinking yourself a Christian and thinking being forceful is the way to help other humans get closer to God LOL
Also mans really cares about Latin Mass as if Catholic parishes/marriages/schools haven't been on the decline in the US......

God Bless

For those that criticize him- If this was a Muslim speaking in a mosque, everyone would look the other way or even praise it.
Look at this for its correct context. This is a catholic school!!
So many are criticizing what he says about women- yet he’s right!! The most rewarding and challenging thing in life is motherhood and being in a healthy/happy marriage! $300K/ year is great and all, but it’s empty without family.
sure sure sure, but also- women can be rich, successful, independent & still satisfied with their life without a husband & kids. Let’s focus on our success & raising other women up first & if a man comes along the way than great! But if not my main focus is my success & making a name for myself instead of mooching off my husband & not already having that independence & success established. Feeling secure within myself & my career comes first especially if I’ve spent 8 years in school for a masters degree.
@@Ollyweb23 This is a little too extreme, because obviously to be a good mom you can't totally focus on your career. But the real argument is that he should have phrased it more like, "now remember, if you don't end up liking the job you get with your degree, a valid option is being a stay at home mom," or something. Instead the pompous old LARPer announced that "most" women all "want the same thing" because he was excited to cosplay as Chad or something. I just love when people don't use nuance, not alienating at all.
Bishops, Fathers, etc... are mere men as well...they need lay people as well... They are not better than or above any other Christian...
So wrong! TRUE PRECONCILIAR PRIESTS command DEEP RESPECT as they CONSECRATE and HOLD OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST IN THEIR HANDS.
@@nnieemmTmaybe they should stop molesting children then if they want “deep respect”… face it, the Catholic religion has no solid base to stand on. When the base is abuse, it’s bound to fall at some point. Mark my words

Wow and they want him fired? He as most that do these speeches speak their opinions and through their experiences. I see nothing wrong with what he said
He said that the women in the audience is most excited about getting married. Women who just spent 4 years working towards a degree. He said his wife embraced homemaker and gave up her dreams so he could live his. He said that marriage and children are their true fulfillment and yet you see nothing wrong with telling women their worth is reduced to babies?
The word "controversial" should be removed from this video's title...
Correct.
This is only controversial if you're a garbage human.
Not if you know the definition of the word controversial...
@@daveleeromano what he said is not controversial. Not by any thinking, rational person.

Why did they clap at his wife being a homemaker? Who the fuck can afford that shit these days? Oh wait he can…
I know plenty of homemakers that are married to husbands that are middle to lower middle class.

As a gay man I don't need a month to celebrate normalcy. As a Christian, you dont need to proclaim my life ' a deadly sin' ...
God waits for his church to be built of LOVE, while men bring stones to build and throw...
God Bless your judgement...
Well I’m a Christian, but I don’t judge you or anyone, that would be a sin. We are taught it is God who judges. We are taught not to judge anyone, as only God knows what really goes on in that persons heart. It is the people who don’t believe in God who do the judging themselves, even if they say they are Christian. Maybe you are in America, but in England, WE don’t judge, GOD does.
Bible says no. In Christianity, homosexuality is a deadly sin. It is as simple as that. it doesn't matter what I think about homosexuality, the Bible says no.
@@marinka424 You might want to research that. God never told us not to judge.
God himself never married and had to get "an angel" to make Mary pregnant to get his son jesus,.. and his son never had interest in women or never married, so I don't understand why us Christians keep telling ourselves about man and woman family setting.phewww,I don't know what to say, but yeah, this speech was well controlled by the catholic church schools leaders, they obviously read his speech before he read it..catholic church schools leaders have always abused boys , it's well known, there is a whole documentary about it..the boy reading the speech is probably a victim.

My question: if you’re catholic and believe in these ideas, why not just peacefully live it within your household and church? Why do you feel the need to push this onto those of us who aren’t catholic or simply don’t want to live this way?
For example: if you don’t believe in abortions or contraception don’t get/use them. Saying they shouldn’t exist is stepping on my rights as an individual. We all have choices, problems arise when we try and push those choices and beliefs on others.
El aborto es asesinato de bebes en el seno materno.

Be careful what you wish for as the right & privilege of free speech and belief apply to all in this country and, as each person is attacked, criticized, and punished for that, others will definitely follow until it is no longer one of those rights. I am impressed that he is not afraid to remain outside of the mainstream social platform that has been imposed on us all by our leaders - especially over the last decade or so! @@joannagithens797the point is that the NFL is trying to influence its players to not speak their minds.
While I personally disagree with all of what he said, it is a CATHOLIC school. His speech was perfectly on par with the Catholic faith. So I'm not sure what the students were expecting when they chose to enroll at a Catholic school!
I mean, it’s a Catholic college BUT…. I would love just for once for those who speak to speak with inspiration rather than the political talking points over and over and over again. Why not talk about going out in the world as young Catholics and live the faith. Whatever- he can say what he wants of course but he’s preaching to the choir and it’s all been said a million times before 🥱🥱🥱🥱
Get tired to hear biden making religion illegal to practice I know..... should have been baptized for the covid religion.
What he said effects everyone. If there are no families who is going to pay for your SSI and Sales tax that pays firefighters!!!!
What he said is absolutely RARELY talked about these days. “It’s not politically correct” to say those things, and people lost their shit, but he was right in everything he said. This is something young people (especially christians) have to deal with in modern society. So I think he chose a perfect topic for young Catholics.
mhmorris, I’m sorry you grow tired of hearing honorable and God inspired messages. Because THAT is EXACTLY what this was. God inspired.
amazing speech!
He just told the women, “Forget the degree you just earned. Don’t get a career. Be a housewife.”
Bro, stay in your lane and mind your own business.
Bro, Catholicism was NOT founded by Yeshua. Know your history before you stand on a podium as an authority on ANYTHING!
No duh. But catholics believe that, so why wouldn't he say it????
Protestants 10 seconds later: "Just gonna stand on this podium here and start my own church, cause only I understand the Bible."
I would be mad if he spoke at my graduation. Dude supposed to up lift us.
are you trying to be funny
It might be smart if you learned how to at least construct a sentence before you do graduate from college..!
"Dude supposed to up lift..."
What is with that..!!!
...???
What did he say that upset you? I’m curious.
“There are more fake gurus and false teachers in this world than the number of stars in the visible universe. Don’t confuse power-driven, self-centered people with true mentors. If that's the case, it makes his delivery even more impressive.

What in the world does any of this have to do with graduating college? As a Georgia Tech alum and Christian, this speech honestly makes me ashamed to have 2 very important things in common with this guy. This shouldn't be the place or time to spout off your personal political leanings etc. NGL, my GT Commencement speaker was seriously boring, but it wasn't personal beliefs rhetoric etc. How in any way, shape, or form does this inspire the young graduates to Begin their next chapters with zeal and become positive citizens to society?
This is a Catholic College. Not a public college
You do realize he was talking to Catholics right? It was inspiring to those within his faith.
@@stevenbennett8173 obviously. As I stated I'm also Christian, but this is not a theology or political class, it's graduation. I personally don't believe listening to the speakers personal opinion on social matters belongs at a commencement. There's plenty of inspirational avenues one can pursue in a to speech that speaks to this type of crowd. Adding in of course maintaining closeness to God, looking to Him for counsel, help etc thanking Him for Blessing them with a sharp intellect and curious mind etc makes sense IMHO. So if you want to include faith it's reasonable and would be better received in that type of manner in this particular setting.
@@ScottsGoalbox2025I didn't read anywhere in the Bible where there isn't a time where he's commanded to speak the truth. As a Christian shouldn't you know that?
