My all time favorite was called Tradition from years ago a limited release that tasted like heaven in a bottle even the container was amazing.
@@frankd.506 wow! Need to do some research on that. One of my favorite wild turkey was the "forgiven" which was just a fantastic bourye and nothing like I ever had at that time. Became a wild turkey fan ever since.

Nice thorough review and comparison David. I just got a backup bottle of Wild Turkey 12 Year 101 today. (I got a guy) The bottle I have is getting low from giving out samples of it. I really like them both, but prefer the taste profile of JD 12 a little more. 🥃

I agree with you (and said it in the video I believe, maybe I didn't make it clear) I also prefer the experience of the JD12 over the WT12, but due to the availability (or lack of) for the JD12, the WT12 won the battle. Also the uniqueness of the fruits was a refreshing change of pace. But JD12 was in my top 5 of 2023 so maybe I made the wrong decision 🤣.

Wild Turkey is a mainstay bc it never disappoints. JD however put out a lot of amazing and new stuff recently so they have been getting more shelf space on my bar. Great review as always!

Both Wild Turkey and Jack Daniel's have been releasing some awesome whiskeys and have made the "special releases" truly special. Only problem is that I can't get my hands on any of them 🤣. Hopefully both will continue to provide some delicious whiskeys in 2024 at reasonable prices (and good supply of them 😆).

Hey David! I scored a Jack Daniels 10 & 12yr today at BevMo for 85.00 & 95.00 bucks and the 10 is really nice but the 12 is a bit better! I also picked up the ECBP A124 and the Larceny BP A 124 today from my store owner friend for 55.00 bucks each and the Larceny as usual is really nice and the ECBP has a sweet first sip with a spicy finish! It’s really nice regardless of the age and proof it’s awesome IMO! Cheers!

If both were attainable at retail in my area I would buy both just to try to do the comparison myself. If I just had to choose 1 it would be WT 101 12 year. The tasting notes described make me want to day drink now.
Hey Dean! The notes on WT12 is amazing and so unique, I probably had another two pours since I recorded the video like a week ago 😆. I'm drinking it too fast as I only got one bottle 🤣. Haven't had either of these yet but I'd say Jack Daniel's and Wild Turkey are probably my two favorite brands. Jack Daniel's has been killing with with all of their special releases, and Wild Turkey is just Wild Turkey, always consistently great and don't have a single bad product
Hey Josh! So true! Only issue with both is availability (and some pricing on wild turkey - looking at generations 😆). But I have loved all Jack Daniel's releases including the affordable bonded whiskey and rye, which are my to go sippers now.
Let's hope in 2024, prices will be reasonable and supply will be plentiful 😇.

I can't speak about either JD 12 or WT 12 unfortunately. Since I last commented though I picked up WT 101 and it's become a staple. Good alone or as a mixer (but only certain mixed drinks because of the strong peanut note in Wild Turkey). So I can only imagine that a 12 year aged WT is going to be pretty tasty!
A lot has developed for me as of lately. I've gotten to try some allocated bourbons. Weller Antique 107 I couldn't stand and wanted to pour it down the drain but it was $15 for a pour. 1792 Single Barrel, I must have gotten a bad barrel. Wanted to pour that down the drain too but it was $14 for a pour. I tried an Eagle Rare 10 Year Private Barrel pick, $20 a pour. Got it side by side with a pour of regular ER 10 also $20 a pour. They picked a good barrel for sure. Slightly darker, much more vanilla, some more pronounced tobacco notes (love that!) and finish and mouth-burn was comparable to regular ER. It was a hotel bar/restaurant if you were wondering why the prices were high. Then I was at a friends place for his birthday. He let me get a pour of Buffalo Trace, Blanton's Original and Peerless Double Oak Rye. The BT was okay, I got a bottle later to have around as a mixer or on ice at least. The Blanton's was totally underwhelming for how much hype and attention it gets. It was smooth, I got the honey and vanilla notes and the not harsh finish. But it was not what I was expecting for all the praise it gets. The Peerless Double Oak Rye. Uffda, what can I say? I hate using the catchphrase liquid gold but hot dang! Somehow smooth, sweet and spicy with a nice long tingly finish! Now that's a $100 bottle I would buy all day long!
I also managed to find a bottle of Eagle Rare which I promptly opened, got about a third of the way through the bottle then had to stop drinking because I can't find a backup bottle ☹. But I've got Maker's Mark Cask Strength, Knob Creek 12 and WT 101 to supplement for now. I like the KC 12 so much I'm eyeing up a local store pick of KC Single Barrel Select 👍.
Hey Meta! That is awesome! Even though it might be a tad expensive for pours at a bar, it is still cheaper than getting a bottle and regretting it 😆. For me, finished ryes (it be double oaked, wine, etc.) Is better with a rye than a bourbon as it seems to round out the rye spice and give it a great balance of flavors.
The wild turkey 101 and knob creek 12 are two of my favorite bottles and ones I'll always have on my shelf!

I tried JD12 in a speakeasy and they only charged $30 for a 2oz pour...very fair price. Been searching for a bottle ever since. Amazing juice.
Hey Jonathan! JD12 is amazing and if it's based on just the experience (Nose, palate), JD12 wins this battle. But the availability (lack there of) and secondary pricing just knocked it down enough as the WT12 is also crazy delicious and a very unique experience! Hopefully you'll get a bottle of the JD12 batch 2 this year!

David, I love your notes & reviews. I wish I had a better nose & palate but I know what I like & don't like, just can't pull out all of those flavors. I had a sample of JD12 & it was as good of a pour of bourbon as I've ever had. Cheers Kevin

JD12 is a wonderful pour and is a bottle I'm "babying" as I don't know if I'll find a replacement 🤣. But the WT12 was just a unique and fun experience that I don't get from many other bourbons so that's why I picked the WT12, but both are "can't lose" bottles.

I’ve got two bottles of the check Daniel‘s 12 year old batch one. I definitely did not go wrong by purchasing them. Unfortunately I have yet to come across wild turkey 12-year-old so I can’t really compare. Cheers David.🥃
Hey Michael! I rather have two bottles of JD12 than the WT12 🤣. JD12 is just so hard to find and batch 1 might become a unicorn at some point . Let's hope batch 2 is a little easier to find (I doubt it but one can hope 🤣).

Loved my JD12. Got two at MSRP and traded one for a Stagg SP. Immediately regretted the trade after I tried the JD12.
Well, Stagg SPs are also delicious so just enjoy it and it's all good~ let's hope you get three this year to make up for it 😆.

If you're not at the store at opening time day of release ,you're not getting it at msrp.I ll be hunting this weekend for batch 2,maybe I ll get lucky. Looking forward to the 15 and 18yr release. Great review David! I would definitely pick the WT for sure over the JD. Man its been yrs. when I had the WT and I would say maybe 07' was the last time when I was stationed in Japan. Wow ! These two are hitters. Here in So-Cal it is hard to find the JD. When you watch hunting videos you see it on the shelves all over the place. That would be nice... maybe some day. Until then, I'll stick to my JD single barrel - barrel proof. I can put that bottle on my bar with no problem.

Personally I’m going with WT JD is not something I gravitate to. Is it good probably but I’m a fan of everything WT.

That is a fantastic choice! 😆 Maybe as the WT12 is made for international only release, it does have a different profile that I usually don't get too often from Wild Turkey products, which is a crazy amount of fruit in both the nose and the palate, which was awesome. Hey Dave! You cannot find the JD12 here in California. Or if you do, it's $300+ or in some crazy bundles. But you will be able to find a WT12 for around $180. Let's hope the JD12 batch 2 is a lot easier to find in CA and TX (I doubt it but one can dream! 😆).

Hey Darrell! If you are enjoying the KC12, you're getting 85 to 90% of the experience of the JD12. Just blend in a little OF 1920 to your KC12 and you'll get a similar experience 😆 (never tried, your miles may vary 🤣).
For the WT12, it was a fun and unique experience. Worth a buy if you ever travel internationally.

Hard to "compare" due to the fruit that was WT12, but since JD12 beat the RR13 in my 2023 rankings (experience only - not factoring in other scores) and JD12 also beat the WT12 in experience... that might be a fun comparison 😆. I'll need to get you a sample of WT12 soon since it's now open 😄.

Hey Alan! You are correct! After the video was posted, I realized that fact. I got the information from "Breaking Bourbon" website, which is the only one that has it wrong (and they are right 99.9% of the time so I didn't double check 😆). I show double check the information, even if I got it from a place that is mostly correct.
Also, I can not edit the video (add anything, even texts) after posting, I can only remove sections, so I decided not to change it. Maybe I should add a pinned comment about it.

Wild Turkey with the exception of the 81 proofs never lets me down then again I really don't care for any low proof , that Russell father and son team maybe the best in the business.

저는 개인적으로 레어브리드는 버번의 정석이라고 (textbook) 생각될 만큼 카라멜,브라운슈가, 바닐라,시나몬이 다 느껴지고 타격감이 좋은 버번이에요. 반면에 와일트터키 12년은 과일의 달콤함이 더해져서 더 부드럽고(도수가 더 낮음) 스무스 합니다. 굳이 둘중 하나 고르면 저는 와일드터키 12년인데.. 사실 둘다 자주 마시긴 합니다 ㅎㅎ 댓글 너무 감사드려요. 자주 놀러와주세요 👍

I tried to get em last year. Maybe I’ll luck out this year.
I saw the jd 12 at a small liquor store in my hometown a few months ago. I asked the clerk how much. He told me $300. I asked if he could give me a better price. He said if I bought another bottle he would. I then asked how much if I bought another bottle. He said $295 no tax.
I told him to have a nice day. Walked out of his store and I’ll never go back again.
@@GLENBECKHAM Yeah, that was not an honest store and with those kind of games, I would not visit that store again as well. It's kind of sad it has come to this in order to try to get a good bottle of bourbon. Almost like we as customers have to "beg" and "impress" the liquor stores.
Unfortunately, I don't have any solutions that I can think of (other than just more supply from distilleries). Oh well, maybe 2024 will be a better year!! Positive thoughts!! 😁
What I’ve decided to do this year is focus on good bourbon that’s not going to break my bank thats always on the shelf ( -$80 ish and under) and store picks from stores that treat customers well and dont try to gouge me.
So if I dont get a jd 10/12 or any btac, or insanely priced wild turkey products I’ll be just fine with that.

Hey Scott! JD12 is fantastic and experience (Nose, palate) is better than WT12, but due to the lack of availability and high secondary pricing combined with WT12's uniqueness, I choose WT12 that night. But I'll sure enjoy the JD12 I have since I have no idea when my next bottle will come 😆.

Hey Adam! The palate and overall experience is better in the JD12 but the uniqueness of the WT12 was so fun to drink 😆. JD12 is just a perfectly done bourbon but WT12 is a fruit roller coaster I haven't been on before. But can't go wrong either way!

That's a fair assessment as even I admit the JD12 had the better experience (nose, palate). But the limited supply and the increasing price (secondary) really made it hard to choose it over the WT12's uniqueness and increasing availability. Let's hope JD12 batch 2 is a lot more easier to find and you'll be able to get one yourself!

I think WT 101 is severely overhyped by whiskeytube. I have 12 years, 8 years and 13 years. None of them coming close to JD 12. Disclaimer: I do not like high rye whiskey.

Hey Peter! No offense taken! 😆. This is the beautiful part of whiskey is that people have different preferences and the same whiskey can taste so different from person to person. I'm sure there is hype due to the international release and the rarity of it but that fruit melody surprised me so much that maybe I was blinded by the aroma and beauty 😂. JD12 is basically a perfect bourbon and even I agree the experience (Nose + palate) is better but that uniqueness of the WT12 just carried it over the top (along with the rarity / price of the JD12 pushing it down a notch).
