I appreciate that you don't try to guess what it is during a blind. It's a pet peeve of mine when people are doing a blind head-to-head and the focus is on them guessing what they're drinking. The purpose in my opinion of a blind comparison is to see which you prefer, not if you know what it is. But to each their own. Cheers!
Great review. Wild Turkey 101 was one of my first bourbon bottles. I've only been on this journey 7 months and I've gone over board. I just received my Old Forester Single barrel and Redwood Empire Pipe Dreams Cask strength in the mail. I can't wait to try those. 🎉🔥
Great vid. The WT101 12 year has beat all modern Wild Turkey products I’ve put it up against except for RR13. I searched for awhile and finally got one while traveling for work in the UK. I wish it was cheaper in the US but it definitely drinks like a limited edition/ special occasion pour for me. Cheers 🥃
Im a big fan of the 12 year. Glad that it held up pretty well here. You can order the it from neat and pick it up later though if you are coming to Louisville.
I blinded the WT12 against RR13, WT Kentucky Spirit, and WT101. RR13 and WT12 came out very close to one another and way ahead of 101 and KS. RR13 was the clear winner, but WT12 had a lot of similarities to RR13 that I enjoyed
Got a bottle of 12 while in Japan, I like the WT flavor profile to begin with and I think the 12 is fantastic! But I also paid about $80 for it; like it so much I got a second bottle on my next trip. Would be hard-pressed to pick a favorite between 12 and RR13.
@@LeatherDaddy97 yeah that is a caveat. I would like the retail and secondary prices separately shown to give a better relativity of what's in the glass taking rarity or allocation out of the picture.
I've heard a few bourbon reviewers say that the newer WT101 bottlings taste different than bottling from even just a couple years ago. Tasting younger and simpler. Hope it's not a real trend.
I love 101, but I get the same lack of nose whenever it goes up against other good bourbons (101 12, BT Kosher Rye, OF 1920 etc..). Just smell air, it shocked me.
Interesting blind results, btw. I personally am a big fan of 101 12. We don't get much in the way of really good bourbon in the UK but being a travel exclusive I was able to pick up the 101 12. But we are lucky to be able to have buffalo trace, eagle rare 10, and BT Kosher Rye always available at online retailers or in supermarkets.
the cinnamon note is what i don't like about wild turkey 101 and rr sib...rr10 and wt 101 rye does not have that cinnamon and i enjoy those....does the rr13 have that cinnamon note?
I have tried batch 1 and own a batch 3 and dont get cinnamon per se but there is a dark baking spice heat that blooms in B3. B1 was more concentrated cherry and sweet dense oak.
As a country Americans accept low quality products. Japan does not. If you find the same clothes sold here, in Japan, the Japan version will be much higher quality, better stitching technique on the seams, heavier fabric, etc. Making a much more durable and longer-lasting product.
In the 80s and 90s Australia and Japan kept wt financially afloat as we kept buying their product I’m in Australia This is basically a thank for head office I have 3 bottles at home and then12 yr old is killer for me

Well said Devin. As soon as you start guessing what it is, it starts influencing your perception.

Pipe Dream CS is so dang good. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
"...I've gone over board." Yeah, that's easy to do!
What website are you getting your picks from?
@@writterttc Some from Seelbach, El Cerrito, and Sharedpour.

How much was it in UK?
@@J53119 they tend to go for about $125 to $150 US Dollars there. RR 13 is now $150 retail so it’s in the ballpark in my opinion.
Love the 12, got mine in a 1 for 1 trade. Both are great
What was the other 1?
WT 12 101 bested 2 of 3 russell 13 batches in our blinds ! Erin's palate is broken lol cheers 🥃

I wanted to see Erin's reaction when she found out what she was drinking, and she didn't disappoint me. 😂
WT 12 is $50 in Japan liquor stores. Well worth it for that. $150 I’m guessing you got from US market?

great content as always. love the reveal of the price after initial thumbs up/down and then letting the price factor in and rating again. keep it up!
Thanks Ben! Feels like a fresh way to do reviews and the most “real world” results apart from bias. Appreciate you watching!
You should pit the WT12 against the Russell Reserve 10. I think it would be a much closer fight.
WHISKEY CHEERS 😎

WT 101 is my low budget go to.
Erin definitely has different smelling notes!
I personally don't think wild Turkey 12 year is worth it, to me it's over priced, just buy rare breed instead.....
Depends what you paid for it. In japan, the msrp for the 12 is about $50
@@LeatherDaddy97 yeah that is a caveat. I would like the retail and secondary prices separately shown to give a better relativity of what's in the glass taking rarity or allocation out of the picture.
I get the wt12 for 160 and I consider that a solid buy
@@Kcemate i cant say i would but thats how this goes
You two almost look eastery😂. Erin is dead on with the stain
Where are you guys located? I know a location where this is sold… and in the price range you mentioned.
Nashville, TN here
In the SLB Drinks Patreon blind last night, WT 101 was last, but everyone swore it didn't taste like WT. Maybe a dirty dishrag in the works? 😂

The pink stuff that janitors put down when kids get sick? As a tasting note? I have many questions…

Not in our limited experience. The extra age rounds out spice.
Why does Wild Turkey deprive the US market of the 12, that's what I want to know.
The USA gets deprived out of a lot of amazing things
Old distribution deals from when bourbon was unappreciated in the US
