Dude, putting Russell's Reserve Single Barrel at D is one of the most jaw-droppingly confusing things for me personally. Everyone has their preferences, but if I see Rare Breed and RRSB next to each other, even if it's not a pick, it's a really tough decision for me.
I think it's well know both of thm Dan especially are not the biggest wild turkey profile fans. Russell's red label SIB (non picks) are some of the intensely on profile wild turkey bottles released. Would make sense they gravitate to other options.
@@johncannon3593 I thought the same thing until I got 2 bottles as a anniversary gift from a relative. I actually tried it next to Rare Breed and 101. Rare Breed isn't so much better that I can't enjoy RR. There are days when I reach RR and leave Rare Breed on my shelf. These 2 guys may say it's horrible. I don't know what they're smoking. I think it's great. There's I no doubt I let these UA-camrs effect what I buy, but I don't let them influence what I taste. I agree with them about a lot of things, but I disagree with this. I love Wild Turkey products. When I'm drinking Wild Turkey, it's as if I'm drinking what whiskey is supposed to taste like. The very definition of Bourbon itself. I just purchased the Russell's 10, different bottle, red at the bottom, and I love it. Bought the Rare Breed Barrell proof yesterday, first taste was hot for me, tonight, I'm loving it. Great video.
10 Year Russell's an E!!! That hurt my heart. Love me some 10 year. Love the show guys! Dead on about 101 and thinking "do you live in a trailer park"?....Everyone I know has the "WT 101 shivers" coupled with a thousand yard stare as they recall a particularly unfortunate night in college where to much was imbibed. That having been said, all the bourbon channels I watch love it....I really need to give it another try.
I half agree about Russell's 10. I think 101 and Rare Breed are much better buys, but an "E" is pretty extreme. For me, I would say "C". I bought it once and thought it was good, but wouldn't buy it again as long as there's 101 or Rare Breed on the shelf. Even then I probably still wouldn't buy it against some other brands at that price. Again, flavor wise there's nothing wrong with it, but the relative value isn't there.
I like RR 10 year good for 90 proof but I seem to when I have a bottle and drink it and when it gets to 1/4 full it becomes overly oaky😐🥃almost to the point of undrinkable

It truly is a great bourbon and I am thankful to both of you to setting me straight. Wild Turkey 101 has become one of my go to daily bourbons.
I've had a couple of Russell's standard single barrels and I thought they were quite tasty. One of my favorite bourbons. I also enjoy the Russell's 10 year. I wish it were 101 proof, but it's one of the better 90 proofers in my opinion. I was getting it for $30 until recently, though still can find it for $35. I like to blend it with Rare Breed. Good stuff!
@@rebellaxbro yeah see, it figures. 😄. There's also some Woodmans in Illinois but I'm sure they're subject to the pricing of Illinois liquor distributors plus all our IL liquor taxes so it won't be the same deal despite being the same grocery store chain.

I have a question about the RR SiB - one of my bottles is labeled "Private selection" - but does not have any identifying store name. It Says "Picked by : Master distiller's Pick" I am not 100% sure where I got it, probably here in NC (which is state controlled). I also have a Craig Private Barrel I got in NC. Nowhere on the label does it mention NC. I guess my confusion is - what is the difference between this and a regular single barrel, which I assume is also picked by the master distiller? I would guess most stores that do "store picks" have a rep that travels to the distillery and tastes several barrels, picking one.
I put 81 in D or F just for being so watered down, Longbranch C or D, RR Single Barrel A or B tier. Rarebreed A, Kentucky Spirit S, 101 A, Masters One B.
Love that Russell's 13 @ $600-$700 hundred dollars per 750 ml and even then ... can't find it. What's that come to per shot? Strictly for oil barons out in Texas. And yeah, it will definitely be poured from a crystal decanter etched with long horns, inside the silhouette of the great state of Texas. yee-high! Giddy up horsey.
Yeah apparently we are the oddball out in MI because it's 40-45 here and we just like others for much less. Rare breed is within $5 here of Russell's 10.
101 definitely an A 10 year is an A for me as well. Everyone is different and that’s the great thing about it. Thanks guys., Blessings from Gettysburg Pa…
WT is my favorite distillery. Love Rare breed and RR. WT 101 is a fantastic daily drinker. The 10 year is the only one I'm not a big fan of. To each their own. Great video
Completely agree with RR10 as a E. I guess I’d put it D. Minnick is just plain wrong. It’s super tannic and bitter. Surprising to me given how much I love other Turkey products.
Great video as always but couldn’t disagree more with Russels 10 being E. It’s a 10 year age stated bourbon at $20-$25 dollars that’s readily available. Who else has a 10 year product at that price point and availability? While it’s not complex, to me it hits all protocol bourbon notes and it’s a bottle I am always happy to grab
Whoaaa it's 40-45 here in Michigan. The only time i've seen it for anywhere near 20 was on a discount shelf at a gas station/liquor store up here. Otherwise it's always at least 40. In Michigan, Eagle Rare and some of the lower shelf brown formans are cheaper and taste just as good/better to us.
First of all, Russell's 10 for $25? In my area it's over $40. I'm moving to your area (I'm not, but maybe you could send me some whiskey?) Even at $25 I would still chose 101 over Russell's 10, though. However, I agree that an "E" is a bit much. I don't think anyone thinks it's bad whiskey, it's just that you can probably buy something better for the same price.
@@BourbonJunkies ahh, ok that makes more sense for the hate then. In Milwaukee it sits on the shelf at 25 but stores regularly have it discounted so I can get it for 22 most days. Heck, in January with a rebate I was able to get it for 17. Def wouldnt pay 40 for it though
There are a few Turkey products only sold on the overseas (mostly Japanese) market such as Rare Breed non chill filtered and wild turkey 13 father and son.
You should do a state by state whiskey series ranking the local state products. Maybe not All states, but for sure the bigger ones like CA, TX, TN, etc.
Your comments on WT101 are so accurate. Before I got into whiskey I always thought of it as like a trailer park/biker whiskey and wanted nothing to do with it UNTIL I tried it felt like a complete idiot!! I will always have a WT101 at my house!
I actually would have never touched WT101 until I went on the tasting tour at WT. OMG, it was a revelation. 101 and Rare Breed were on the tasting list and I was blown away. 2 of the best bourbons under $50!!!
Just bought a Rare Breed Barrel Proof. 116Proof. Besides Russell's reserve 10 year, this is the only WT I've had.... I agree that this is one of the best I've ever had.
Guess we don't get 81proof we got a 43.4 or something for 45, 101 goes for 70 here in Australia .. Russell's 10 70ish the reserve is 80ish.. the Kentucky spirit is 130 so the best value here is definitely the rare breed for 96.just thought I'd share the prices ... master's keep are going for 300+ here in this country ..which I guess if we don't pay that as our retail it cost lots more on line ..maybe revival was cheapest at 170..anyways cheers guys
So sad and surprised about the RR SiB rating. I love it. I suppose that means supply should be ok for a while. 😂 would love to find a pick to see the difference you guys talk about
What, no WB Saffell?! That was actually an unexpected tiering. You definitely rank those differently than I think most people. You're logic is sound, and no one can argue taste preferences. I wonder how many people blindly hype up a couple of those bottles because it's the popular thing to do right now.
You can get Rare Breed regularly for around 30€/$35 in Germany... whenever I need an extra bottle to get free shipping, it's hard to look past this one
Besides ryes, I think the only one's missing are the baron editions (saffel, bond and lillard and ripy). I am a 101 fan through and through and so happy it was placed so high. Only had one pour of the RR13 and I must have had one of those bad bottles because I did not understand the hype when I had it. Sounds like it is definitely worth another try. Great Vid!!!
I might have to disagree with WT 81 being a B simply because it's the cheapest, when you are using value as a parameter. Is it better than Longbranch? If so, it should be an A. How is Dan's vertigo?
Wild Turkey 81 is often priced below 15 bucks and sometimes it drops below 12 when on sale, while the regular retail price is in the 20 to 25 dollar range. WT 81 is more difficult to find than Wild Turkey 101. I agree in Rare Breed, it's a good bottle.
I'm so glad you guys put Russell's 10 so low. I hated it upon my first sip. So many people hype it up to be the best Bourbon for the money. I've put it in double blinds several times and each time it ranks at or near the bottom, even compared to cheaper and younger whiskeys. The initial taste of Russell's 10 is decent, but it dissapears almost immediately and leaves me with extremely bitter oak tannins that completely take over and ruin it. 101 will always be better than Russell's 10 to my palate.
Nursing my bottle of RRSB as it is hard to find in the UK and costs £££, I would give it more than an E based my experience so far. RR10 is the first bottle I want to pick up when I visit the states in October despite the mixed reviews.
No comments on the Wild Turkey rye offerings? What grades do they (81 Rye, 101 Rye, Rare Breed Rye, Russell's 6 year Rye and Russell's single barrel Rye) get?
@@BourbonJunkies But a half hour video would be worth it! I see other whiskeytubers go for a lot longer about stuff that no one will ever see on a shelf.
Weird, I have a UK market RB and a US market RB, and the US RB is smoother, whereas the UK RB is spicier. Is there considerable variability in RB? And I never associated WT101 with trailer trash because it was the favorite of my maternal grandfather, who was the exact opposite of trash: a hard working dairy farmer who didn't tolerate trashy behavior...or drunkenness.
Rare Breed has traditionally been in the low $40 range for the past five plus years in my area. In the past two weeks it has jumped to the $55-$60 range. I don’t know if this is because of the glass shortage or because of all the love it has recently attracted.
Great video-SUBBED! So lb. for lb., what other distillery can top the Russell's /WT line up for overall great bourbons with this level of availability?
Whats interestin to me, that almost every bourbon is 30-50%(sometimes more) more expensive in europe, than in the US and half of the time its not available. But Buffalo Trace and Wild turkey are the exceptions. You can get them at msrp and they are pretty easy to get. Rare Breed is $35 here, Eagle Rare is in every whisky store.
I consider myself a big Wild Turkey fan. I'd agree with most of this. I'd bump the single barrel Russell's one grade but I might be grading on nostalgia. Haven't seen one in forever. I know it's not fair to grade dusty's, but Turkey dusty's are amazing. I'm nursing my second bottle of split label. I also have a cheesy gold foil that I'll pop open soon.

Just bought a Rare Breed Barrel Proof. 116Proof. Besides Russell's reserve 10 year, this is the only WT I've had....
I agree that this is one of the best I've ever had.
I'm in the same boat and second this
No rarebreed rye?
Would like to see where you put the Ryes. WT101 Rye, Rare Breed Rye, and Russell's Rye
I love the 101, but agreed, the barrel proof bourbon and rye will always have a spot on my shelf.
I get Rare Breed under $40 in my area. It is fantastic. WT 101 is about $21-22.
So sad and surprised about the RR SiB rating. I love it. I suppose that means supply should be ok for a while. 😂 would love to find a pick to see the difference you guys talk about
By me in Michigan, state minimum is now pushing 60 for rare breed… not sure where you guys are getting it for under 50 now
Meier has it $47 ALL DAY in Michigan
We had a good bottle, Picks are just that damn good
Zero RB in my part of NC. Its nuts. Haven't seen it in a year.
I might have to disagree with WT 81 being a B simply because it's the cheapest, when you are using value as a parameter. Is it better than Longbranch? If so, it should be an A. How is Dan's vertigo?
Vertigo is better! Thank you for asking. The value aspect does make ranking a little difficult.
Nice watch Sean, I've got the same one and I love it!
Great video guys, WT is the standard 👏 🥃
Honestly they are all worth trying, TONS of people love the white label it just isn't for us.
Anyone tried RRSiB Rye? I picked up a bottle recently and it’s really nice!
No comments on the Wild Turkey rye offerings? What grades do they (81 Rye, 101 Rye, Rare Breed Rye, Russell's 6 year Rye and Russell's single barrel Rye) get?
This video would've been 30 minutes if we did all the rye's in it too lol.
@@BourbonJunkies But a half hour video would be worth it! I see other whiskeytubers go for a lot longer about stuff that no one will ever see on a shelf.
People knock the Longbranch a lot, maybe because the celebrity convection, but I absolutely love it!
rare breed is $56 around here vs just $21 for the 101. I'm assuming the 2 are similar just one has more proof?
Not sure why I haven't tried Rare Breed yet! That will be my next bottle. Thank you for the tier list!
What’s your watch?
Rare Breed is 60-65 here in Los Angeles
What about the barons collection? (Bond and lillard, W.B. Saffell and old ripy)
Saffell is easily our favorite of that group with Bond and Lillard in a distant second.
I didn't get a nutty flavor on my SiB in CO. WT must send their worst standard SiB bottles to MI.
Wow wow wow. I must really like nutty because the russels are some of my favorite.
Great video-SUBBED! So lb. for lb., what other distillery can top the Russell's /WT line up for overall great bourbons with this level of availability?
For us it'd be old Forester honestly! Cheers and thanks for subbing!
Pick tier list: could be your picks/ pick experience, could just be picks you have (generalized to distillery/ offering)
What’s the most expensive whiskey you ever tasted and is there any whiskey that’s so good or expensive that it legit doesn’t burn?
I love Russels 10, but it is only $26 here
I really wish I liked the Turkey flavor profile more because they are really well made bourbons for the price.
Wild Turkey 101, Rare Breed and Longbranch will always have spots on my bourbon shelf.
Where would y’all rank Russell’s single barrel rye?
Kind of wish you added in some of their Rye products.
I get 101 in Texas at 17 a bottle at any chain store
My local Walmart has rare breed at 41 doll hairs. I’m super happy
INSANE value
great thoughts on the bottles but I love the flavor profiles of the Russels. Both amazing values
I like bourbon, I like cats... Internet bonus points for oddly mixed content algorithms.
I mean whiskey people are into things that aren't whiskey too lol
“Be nice… cause you usually aren’t” Haha!!! Fair enough.
I think it’s fair where you put MK, BUT depending on your taste profile prefs and the specific release, the range is S to D.
It's hard with those because they do differ a lot from release to release.
Got Bottle of 101 from Costco for 28 bucks and its a 1.75L best value ever!!! Delicious 😋
