I might want the crazy display tech, but I will never buy something with a menu system that bad. I want no autoplay (especially with audio), so ads, no banners, no menus changing themselves. Realistically I don't think I'll ever buy a TV again at this rate. A monitor with a media PC is so much better at this point...
I have the same problem picking a media player for my projector. Android TV devices are really tempting for their wide app support but they're stuffed full of ads so I'm really not seeing any better option than my Chinese Amlogic box with Kodi.
Thanks Linus & the LTT team for the shoutout! As stated at 6:04 in this video, Samsung has released firmware update 1211 for the S95B, which restored the accuracy in HDR [Filmmaker Mode] regardless of measured window size.

Would have been nice to see more focus on just how bad the Samsung menus are. Especially how egregious their forcing ads into the menu and their overall data collection practices. If you track all the network calls their TVs make, you'll see how concerning it is. And there is no opt out for the ads. They are just there. I actually overhauled my network to include a PiHole because of them. And the TV is the single highest device blocked out of over 15 device on my network.
@@bluezz5002 It is, but the fact it's even necessary to deploy a PiHole just so you can use a TV properly is borderline criminal. A lot of the processing power is used up on downloading and displaying ads in the menu.

Smart TVs in general could really use some UI streamlining but that's gotta be the worst I've seen. It's like manufactures are trying to boost geek squad home consultation revenue.
Unless the UI is drastically different than my less than a year old Samsung TV, their experience is like a Windows 10 user using an Apple interface for the first time.

As someone who owns this tv, and went straight from a basic UI 7 year old LG, the interface on this tv is the only drawback, the screen is incredible, but every time i want to switch between devices it takes a whole journey through menu screens. However, as i said the TV screen is amazing, and the speakers too. So despite the issues with the OS i would still definitely recommend it if you have the money to afford it.
100% agreed. I've been using HDTV Test as one of the primary sources of actually useful data on TVs since at least 2010, and they've been a part of every TV purchase I've been involved with since I found out a bout them. I say "they" because I'm not sure whether or not other people were working on the website back then too, just covering bases.
I want to see a video comparing a bunch of different tv's menu systems and just how horrible they all are. At this point I'll give up picture quality and features just to get something that isn't so painful to use.
I got a Philips tv back in 2017-18 and I’ve loved it’s menus. Intuitive and simple to use. Along with a really nice and responsive remote that can be used in any direction and when you turn it over, it reveals a keyboard. I think it’s the PUT6000 series. Not sure tho Issues I’ve had with it are that it’s a bit slow for my taste (but tbh it’s the first smart tv I’ve ever used), wasn’t bright enough so I had to tweak the settings a lot to get somewhat usable brightness but certain colours are super washed out. And after a few years of usage, a rather annoying issue has popped up. It’s got a lot of bright circles all over the screen.
03:13 It gets an accurate image to calibrate because on those specific phones, they know EXACTLY what the calibration profile of the phone camera itself is, so therefor they can tell exactly what colors it's seeing on the TV.
The color accuracy issue is scummy but in day to day probably wouldn't bother me as much. The UI on the other hand is an atrocity. I had the displeasure of using it on a 7 series Samsung and shudder every time I think about it. Going to stick with my LG CX until we see gen 2 qd-OLED and prices drop, but I refuse to suffer through Samsungs UI.
I have a Samsung Q70R and I'm at a loss at how they've screwed up their menu. What I have is so easy and smooth to navigate. Other than the menus, looks like an amazing panel.
You have admirable integrity for the indecent age we live in. You could have kept quiet like the others, but you didn't. Samsung could have sponsored you too, but you didn't mind losing money. Thank you for your courage. I hope you will be an example to others. Greetings from Istanbul.
I wish more manufactures would deploy modern tech like this without the software I miss dumb TVs, I literally have neve used a smart TVs apps in my life, the device I'm displaying on the TV already has them and is 99% of the time a better experience
Manufactures are subsiding the cost of each TV by selling your personal info, what you watch, search for, etc. TV's have gotten cheaper than what they were back in the day yet they keep getting better, the money has to come from somewhere. I just wish they'd charge what they need to charge to make money and make it a 'dumb' TV.
Once you know these three magical words you can buy all the dumb TVs you could ever desire. You just gotta know what to look for: "Digital Signage Display" They're basically dumb TVs that're used in stores, like at McDonalds to show the current menu. They're designed to run 24/7 and can output extreme brightness because they have to remain legible in direct sunlight. The downsides are the high price because you're not surrendering your personal info so you actually have to pay for the tech you use, and the image quality which is still good, but not as good as on something like this Samsung TV. They also don't have speakers in many cases and you need an external device to feed them a signal, but you can just use an old computer like an Intel Nuc with KODI as the operating system. That way you can even install a bunch of emulators and stuff.
@@09f9 That's another way, sure. With DSDs you're paying for low production numbers and the previously mentioned high uptime design. And you get those displays in sizes of 100+ inches if you have sufficiently deep pockets. From what I've seen, the image quality is perfectly fine. We have a big showy wall of 6 Iiyama DSDs at work that's used to display live network stats. During night shift, we've often hijacked one or two to play video games or watch movies on. I never thought them any worse than a regular low- to mid-tier consumer TV. Personally, I'm not interested in some marginal picture quality improvement that I need highly specialized tests to detect. These high end TVs are all just 8000 dollar marketing ploys in my opinion. Sure it's better than one that costs 1000 or 2000, but is it four to eight times better?

This highlights so many issues I have with TVs right now. STOP TRYING TO PREDICT WHAT I WANT. Automatically switching my input, changing my viewing mode, automatically playing content, and hiding manual settings. I just want a display, that is it. I already have a chromecast 4k and ps4 that both play all my content better than the tv itself does. Edit: I will add that this is happening simultaneously while TVs have never looked better, even budget models can look pretty good comparatively to past experiences. I am just not a customer for smart functions as someone with multiple media devices to run content.
On that note, I hate hate hate screens trying to interpolate frames and subsequently hiding it under some ambiguous menu. Most of what I watch is animation, which is often completely ruined by "Motion Smoothing".
You didn't mention some caveats. Dell monitor is only sold through their website (can only order if you live in a handful of countries) and waiting times are like half a year+. Wellllllll after months of deliberation I had FINALLY settled on the Samsung S95B (first choice was the Sony A95K but too $$$), BUT then I went to my local Best Buy. THREE separate electronics employees strongly recommended I NOT get the Samsung. They have a 65” S95B with a huge pink burn-in splotch. They told me it had only been up running demo content for TWO MONTHS. So the LGC2 it is!! Good luck everyone
I actually own this TV and I can say the burn in fear is greatly overblown. You'll notice it's only best buy employees complaining, ive yet to hear of permanent burn in from a real user (heard it from a few LG G2 owners though) Best buy demo tv's are not representative of real world use. They run constantly so don't get enough compensation cycles, they run the same demos over and over again, wearing out the exact same pixels again and again for months (yes months ive never once heard of burn in in a week i think that employee was having you on) and they usually disbale the safety mechanisms like absl, logo dimming and the screen saver that appears after 30 secs. With all those things together when watching varied content burn in is not a problem, I've talked to plenty of people who've had their tv's since launch and every panel is perfect. Meanwhile I've heard if LG's burn in a matter of months of real use, why? Because use case is the number one factor, ive heard of people who play apex for hours every single day with the hud elements enabled then wonder why their G2 is burnt after 3 months whilst regular gamers who play a variety of titles and turn off the hud in games they play often have no issues. So unless your playing the same game everyday or using the tv as a pc monitor (a big no no, its fine to play pc games on oled tvs but not to use it from regular pc use on a regular basis) you'll be fine. Yes it will burn eventually, that'll happen to every OLED regardless of brand, my C7 lasted about 5 years, I expect the s95B to last about as long, sure the C2 may last 7-8 but I'd never keep the same TV that long anyway and if you're the type of person that will then buy a Miniled, OLED isn't for you regardless of brand. Now when the TV first launched it did have issues, that was because it hit 1500 nits which is too much without a heatsink. But Samsung recognised that and limited the TV to 1000 nits ending the issue. Though I know people who've re-enabled 1500 nits in the service menu and even after months have no problems. And b4 anyone brings up the rtings test note it has the same issue as best buy, it's not representative of real world use and rtings themselves stress than constantly, plus even then i took months of 18 hour days of CNN at full bright b4 the newsricker burnt in not a week as you claimed. Its also worth noting that old lg's like the C7 used to burn even quicker in tests like this but in the real world it's only now years later that real users are having problems. On the plus side peoples fears mean these TV's are available at unbelievable prices, I got my 65" brand new for £900, £300 less than a used C2 and I'm so glad I did, tthe insane colour luminance, super wide colour gamut and 1000 nit highlights (upgradeable to 1500 with SM mods but I only do that occasionally for special films to be safe), it's just unreal a massive upgrade over my old C7 whilst the C2 just isn't a big leap plus its limited to 150 nits in SDR, even dimmer than the C7 which is just unusable for me, the S95 can access full HDR brightness in SDR mode which is a huge benefit over LG rarely talked about. TL:DR the risk of burn in is greatly overblown, it was a risk at launch but that was rectified by an update. As long as you respect the TV and vary your content you won't see burn in for years, and it's worth noting that LG's will also burn in, whilst they may far better in stress tests in real life I've heard far more about them burning than Samsungs.
@@MsMarco6this is the worst flagship tv in many years and ahould be avoided. Not because of burn in, but build quality and QC. These are breaking down by themselves. In 1 year or 1 month, you will just get a dead tv eventually.
@@danielkissgremsperger3242 that is a massively overstated problem, there's no evidence of a particular high failure rate. Yes you'll see people post their broken models but bear in mind most people only post online when theres a problem, the same is true for any other Oled a quick Google search will show no end of people with broken C2's for instance why? Because if they weren't broken those people wouldn't talk about them online so the broken one's are over represented. However if you look on forums where people post consistently about the TV generally and not just when they have Issues (such as AV/AVSforums) you'll see almost noone talking about their set breaking, why Because it's not all that common and noone has any evidence that it is. Yes Techgiant has had multiple issues but of that was a common failure rather than just bad luck you'd expect other reviewers to report there broken models but you don't see them doing that more than average. If your still not convinced then just get one with a warranty which all new units should have amd there's nothing to worrt about.
A couple of points from someone who sells TVs, including Samsung: Companies "cheat" on these tests because consumers with zero knowledge of how electronics work go online and look at Rtings or Consumer Reports and that is their be all and end all. They will buy whatever online reviews rate as "the best" without ever asking "is this actually what works best for me". So, companies cheat to be better on those tests because the bulk of consumers won't ask questions. The second thing is I also hate the new UI. The ribbon menu of yesteryear was a bit clunky sometimes, but was simple to navigate and easy to find almost whatever you need. Thankfully some of their lower end models are carrying over with the old UI. Third, if you hate the remote, and don't mind using your smart phone, the Smart Things remote option is a much better experience, including giving you a source button. I currently own a Samsung QN800A (the entry 8K for 2021) and love it, but there are definitely some annoying design choices in both 2021 and 2022 models.
i service/sell samsung tvs among various other electronics, including LGs... i find it rather interesting how people find the samsung UI confusing while finding LG's friendly, and then the polar opposite finding samsung's menu easy to navigate effortless while finding LGs terrible. Also i find it a little odd that Linus's group has intentionally enabled some of the absurd ads and such for samsung, something you can during setup, opt out of, and WAY too many people are clicking "agree to all" and hitting enter then complaining about ads in app. While i don't have access currently to the new QD-OLED due to slow distribution, there is one thing CONSTANTLY overlooked by people, the fact that the models shipped to and sold are big box retail stores are NOT the same as direct from samsung distribution channels, and they never have been. Just like yamaha's products shipped to retail stores and direct distribution locations being actually named entirely different products (literally one of the few companies that give completely different modeling numbers to differentiate from their shit tier retail box products and direct distribution), and have completely different component and design characteristics. Obviously you're paying more from direct distribution sources almost always in the lower tier ranges, but often competition is fairly good at the upper mid range to top tier realms where you can get for example a TV for as cheap or cheaper than a retail box store is willing to go. There are definitely some odd quirks in Samsung's menu system though, but having used the newest release of the UI, which looks identical on this tv short of the bloody ads linus is seeing which yet again i say, are opt in, Navigating is easy and i definitely don't get blanking. Finding the source options isn't technically limited to the "connected devices" but getting to connected devices is in some cases either. Samsung has built their ribbon to be customized which makes life so much easier, simply pin the sources you wish to your home row, along with your primary apps in the order you wish, and presto, a quick couple presses and you're into anything you want regardless of the device you set. In the end, their experience with the menu is almost entirely due to newbie and unfamiliarity with a different UI. It's not counter intuitive, just something that you kinda slap your own forehead the moment how much of an idiot you were to be confused by it.
@@SpectrumTwist Well said . It’s sad even technically competent “nerds” couldn’t figure out there’s a lot of opting out you can do to give you a better experience. But then again, impulsiveness doesn’t help anyone which linus has
@@SpectrumTwist while you make a good point and being a geek myself I will follow the advice, but I'm sick of it, its inefficient, even working in the field it frustrates me by principle how fcking all over the place tech is getting.
The sad thing is Samsung doesn't need to cheat. They are a decent company but this makes you feel like they have been lying about their past reputation too now.
How about exploding batteries, Washing machines rusted out in 3 years and stealing patent information and design from Apple. Very few companies are decent just some survive recalls and lawsuits.
They sold me a TV and then 9 months later released a firmware upgrade that injected adverts into the UI. They are not a decent company, it's no wonder their CEO is in prison for bribery.
I would be excited if we could get displays like these without any built in computers, aka "smart". I'm interested in a quality display, not a built in computer giving me features I don't want that will eventually stop receiving updates and turn into a zombie in a bot farm.
Right? I haven't bought a new TV in about 8 years, in large part because every time I've interacted with a smart tv it's been absolutely awful. My parents have one and I've had to give them written instructions for even basic functionality. Why is it so hard to have an input selector, a couple of color modes, and a couple other less important settings? That's literally all I need. I don't want to run the various streaming apps, they all suck too, just let me connect to my media PC and move on
Unfortunately, it's one of those things which basically became a "must have feature". Doesn't matter how it's implemented, the goal is to tick that "smart TV" checkbox. The TV "industry" is absolutely insane in the fact that the marketing is literally more important to them than the product itself. They'll screw it up completely if it means it'll look better on paper.
@@NexGenTek Absolutely, no questions about it. I'm not spending 30 seconds every time I want to change the source, or spending 5 minutes scouring menus to try to dim the brightness so it stops searing my eyes at night. The menu is absolutely more important then it being 5% more color accurate.
@@Mr.Bimgus This is not "5% more color accurate" or whatever. This TV is literally next gen upgrade, you can read it in all reviews, tons of impressions here on UA-cam as well. Now if something as superfluous as slightly annoying menu is a deal breaker to you, then go look at other TVs, plenty of alternatives out there. People who actually are in the market for best of the best picture quality will laugh at these menu complaints, because if you are fed up with crappy displays in past 2 decades, you would give anything to make content you are watching look pristine. Slightly annoying menu is like non-issue in the grand scheme of things.
I will withhold my thoughts on that TV (and a general leaning in recent years around products) to just say how much respect is actually due towards LTT/LMG/Linus, that they have gotten to the point where can say ' I can see why they did not send us a review sample' . That is no mean feat. ( or feet, in sandals)

You can configure it to do exactly that in the menu takes a little work but you can set it so 1 click of the menu button and the only options are the inputs or tv options. Just have to go through a few minutes and turn off some stuff.
@@a1racer441 but srsly wouldn't it be better to just not have to have it in there in the first place? It's wasted and the second problem is that tvs unlike phones are supposed to be used for a while. I personally think the picture quality is great though and in game mode a few adjustments fix a lot of issues.
I worked at Best Buy up until last week on the remodel team and I was tasked with going to each store in the STL area and updating all of the Samsung TVs on their vendor pad. Many stores in that area were showing off that the 55" s95b had severe burn in within a week of being out on display. Sure, as a store display, the TV's are on and playing content far more often than you'd have at home. However, for the price they're asking, that is still just crazy to me.

I have basically all the same menu issues, and source related issues with a Samsung 6 series TV at home - the problem is with that one is there are basically 2 of everything - 2 remotes, 2 settings menus, 2 ways to select source (one being select source, the other being the connected device menu seen here). The auto source switching has gotten so bad I actually leave my stuff (Xbox, connect PC) unplugged when I'm not around, just so my parents can actually watch cable on it without having to constantly unplug my stuff and replug it afterwards.

The problem is that Samsung is doing the juicing in the Filmmaker mode as well which is supposed to be a standard. Sure do whatever trickery you have to do in the standard mode but why mess with something that is supposed to be a standard.
@Codebreaker Not on any firmware prior to 1211, hence the point of the video about them cheating. And like you said, they’re still cheating in game mode
Finally somebody complained about the freakin menu. For some reason, nobody online has a problem with the stupid source button omission. If you’re using a unpopular device, Samsung forces you to go through an annoying setup process every time you switch to it. ie: PS5 and Switch work fine, but it’s really annoying to use with my Super NT Just give me a source button. I hate all this “smart” crap.
Really good and honest review, thank you! I'm not defending Samsung and I think you know this, but i think Samsung doesn't have Dolby Vision because HDR10+ is a development of Samsung and Samsung pushing everyone to use HDR10+ as a free alterhative. You need to pay royalties for Dolby Vison, and HDR10+ is almost as good (Samsung says so). But yeah...
There is more content for Dolby Vision. We should at least have the option of adding and paying for it. If a $600 Hisense can have it, why can't a $2700 set?
Truth to be told DV means nothing since you can have a 300nit movie packed with a DV 4000nit container which implementation varies per brand. In other words DV does nothing but charge royalties if you have a proper 1000nit panel.
I miss TVs where you just plug stuff in and it works. Now you have to create accounts use over complicated menus on super slow hardware and to use 75% of the “forced” features you need multiple subscriptions…
I have been using a 48" C1 as a PC monitor for 2 months and I am extremely happy with it. I have moved both my PS5 and Switch dock from the TV room to my desk so now all my gaming is in one location. I have not been this impressed with a TV since I bought my 64" Samsung plasma 10 years ago, which is getting a little long in the tooth but still has an impressive picture with no burn in. My C1 already has over 1,100 hours...yes I do a lot of gaming and other use with it.
This one is terrible as a PC monitor (at least for productivity and web browsing), because of its bizarre triangle subpixel structure, making the small text horrible to read. If you only do gaming or watching videos then it will be awesome.
The C1 is the first tv I can say I love to use. I have a 65 inch in my living room and a 48 inch in my room. I waited for the C2 to come out and got a good deal on the 48 inch and open box from best buy with the 65 inch. Could not be happier with the C1. The C1 does suffer with the really bad interface so I use 2 Apple 4k for the snappy interface and NO ADS.
@@kazioo2 You are referring to the Samsung QD-OLED correct, not the LG C1?? I am just confirming what you meant, as the C1 does not have the triangle pixel structure so I assume you are referring to the QD-OLED which does have a triangle pixel structure. I had researched what TVs were coming out (including Dell's QD-OLED PC monitor) and I decided that for the price and quality the C1 was best for me...and I am very happy with the C1 as both a PC gaming monitor and when paired with my PS5 and Switch dock. The only reason I considered waiting for the C2 was the 42" screen however paying more for a smaller screen did not sit right with me... and I am so happy I went with the 48" C1 because the size works for me and finally I am completely satisfied with my PC gaming experience whereas I had not been before due to the smaller 27" PC gaming monitor I was using. I bought my first gaming PC a year ago and I paired it with the really nice MSI Optix MAG274QRF-QD 27" 1440p 165hz IPS monitor...the picture and performance were awesome however I wanted a larger 4k true HDR monitor. With the 48" C1 my PC gaming experience is like my console gaming experience but without having to choose between fidelity mode vs performance mode. Furthermore, having all my gaming platforms hooked up to one monitor in one location makes it so convenient to switch back and forth as I please.
Not really "cheating", was an engineering issue with plasmas as well. The amount of heat and energy created by having the entirety of the self emissive pixels on, is much more difficult to deal with than small bright details. In a way they have chosen to avoid losing fine detail brightness (ansi contrast), by allowing increased brightness that isn't viable with 100% white.
Got mine a couple weeks ago. Phenomenal TV. Really enjoying it. Blown away by how Altered Carbon looks on it in 4k HDR. it is very impressive. And gaming is amazing!
Im on my 3rd 55" s95b and all of them have had bends in the panel and 2 of them had dead pixels straight out of the box. Does yours have any bends or dead pixels? Have you checked for dead pixels by displaying a solid one color image across the screen?

Hey Linus, want to know something a little crazier still? Samsung uses ADS panels for their QN90A (and probably other top of the line) tvs in the EU and Latin America and VA panels in the US and Canada, charging the same, the contrast ratio difference is huge and they do not disclaim this information anywhere on their website.
A basically rebranded IPS panels? That is really shitty! IPS has its places but in a TV where contrast ratio is very important it is not. HDR performance probably sucks too.

I mean are we really surprised when samsung is doing this with Exynos in their phone while also charging higher price and not really disclosing it either (for eg they just say octacore processor and make it hard to find the brand name)
isnt the European QN90 the American QN80 though? the European QN95 should be the American QN90. these international model numbers suck balls and are missleading if you use American media like Rtngs or /r/hometheatre . Sony X950h is the XH9505 in Europe/Germany and there are dozens of sub TVs being sold like XH9005 (X900H) or XH9305 and whatnot. Same for LG with OLED C9 and the C6 Swiss model and whatever else there is. TV wise we always got the short stick as our TVs in general are just worse overall
Nah that crook will lie & pressure you into said TV you are not interested but will do so by is agenda in secert. Stick to other sources like Rtings for more true reviews & suggestions, they'll make sure you're satisfied no matter what
I remember on a recent LTT Samsung screen technology video someone was questioning why I didn't trust the Samsung curated "comparison". I mean, why would they ever cheat or lie about these things? It's not like short term profit is the only thing that matters... oh wait.
Yes, but everytime you switch it on or leave the settings you are prompted (I assume for life, mine been doing it FOr 7 months😐) to accept terms and conditions.
My S95B pre-calibrated went from Color accuracy Delta E of 17,43 to 0,98 in HDR Movie profile. Luminance Accuracy went from an AVG of 13,54 to 0,39. Max Luminance was 954,1 cd/m^2. Only problem area was EOTF in the middle of the curve *slightly* boosting. Whatever Linus said here, this TV is absolutely mind blowing. The only tv i've seen come even slightly close was the LG G3 and even then this one beats in in terms of color. If you decide to get this tv, GET IT CALIBRATED by a professional!
Just like Linus I'm surpriced by the lack of dolby vision on all TVs by Samsung but when reading more about it there seems to actually be a reason as to why. becuase Samsung never went with the OLED train and instead focused on their QLED tech, they always ended up with the brightest displays out of all the competition as they didn't have the brightness limit of a normal OLED. As dolby vision is made to compensate for a low maximum brightness from the display they actually didn't need it because their displays got bright enough to not need dynamic metadata. They do however support HDR10+ which is basically the same as dolby vision but they still don't really need it, but as it's free unlike DV they decided to add it.
They don't support DV because they are part of the HDR10 forum, so they have HDR10+. Dolby Vision won the format brief war for sure though, every streaming service uses Dolby Vision (maybe not prime video yet), even Blu-Ray discs are more common with DV than HDR10+. Sansung is just being stubborn at this point
HDR10+ is not “basically” DV. HDR10 and 10+ both use static metadata, where DV has a tone curve on a scene by scene basis. The dynamic metadata isn’t just to compensate for lower brightness displays, it’s also to be able to represent scenes in a more accurate manner. In practise, how big of a difference that makes in actual watching isn’t really gonna matter, unless you’re comparing the two side by side, but DV is becoming the new standard, and has more potential (because it uses 12 bit color vs 10 on HDR10/10+, which futureproofs it)so if you want a more accurate representation of the content, DV is gonna be better.
@@justsaying993 None of the TVs from any company has 12 bit panel to make 12 bit DV which there are rarely any 12bit content useful. HDR 10+ is different from HDR 10 which is a static metadata.
Watching this video on my $8 720p monitor from goodwill. Yeah TV looks so amazing, so much better then all the other TVs lol. I can really see the difference!
I saw this review on an LG CX monitor that I've been using for over a year, with over 2800 hours of use and zero burnin so far. I'm an image aficionado, if I have burnin I'll change the product, but so far it's been impressive as I use it for work and if I average it out every day of the year, I have more than 7 hours of use on average. Amazing sound, amazing picture and no cheating.
samsung also dont cheat. it has qd oled. it have better colors then the regular wrgb oleds. with there white subpixels! i had the cx also. i have exchange it for the s95b. so much better tv! movies and games are on another level now! next gen!
For all the red and yellow highlights QD advances in, I think the brown color advances too, especially because manufacturers have this meticulous goal to make TVs thin as possible
I did a stint with UI with a project team at a bigger company. Let me tell you something... I was truly shocked at how hard it was to convince the other engineers to make things in the GUI faster/easier/optimized. Even little details that you would take for granted I had to fight for. Now multiple this by a larger company using even more disconnected engineers, and you get this interface.
One thing Linus never covers when he gushes over samsung TVs is the fact they have built in Ads! If you buy a Samsung TV, even if you have UA-cam premium, 6 months down the line, it'll start interrupting your UA-cam experience with ads.
Yeah, I absolutely refuse to be played ads on something I pay for. That's why I will never buy into TV again, never watch any of the streaming services with ads, and will never buy a device with built in ads. I'm ok with ads on free services, and I'm ok paying for services to have no ads, but I refuse to have both
@@dave_s_vids do you use the youtube app or do you have it connected to another device? How long have you had the TV? They don't come on for the first 6 months.
Just bought the S95B, half price compared to the Sony A95K. The Samsung was even cheaper than any LG OLED besides the B2. Easy decision. Super excited! :)
9:15 Honestly Samsung TV speakers seem to have been consistently good for a while now. I was honestly shocked at the depth and range in the speakers of my old Samsung TV from 2015. They were on par or better than most sound bars even several year after release (except for surround audio of course)
Strange, when we upgraded to a 55" Samsung 4k around that time, I had to run out and buy a soundbar because it was so bad. Didn't want a standalone audio solution until I could get a full home theater, but could barely hear the TV. Our new Samsung is a ton better, but it never gets use now that we do have a 5.2 2 setup
I can second this. Our TV from (I believe) 2016 has some of the best TV speakers I've ever heard. They're clear and full with deep bass without drowning out the highs. We actually enjoy listening to music with it. Fast forward to 2021, and we got a new, thinner Samsung Tv. My gosh is it worse. The speakers are flat and tinny, there's absolutely no bass and we consistently have to turn it up to 75+ for normal viewing. The old TV could literally fill the entire front part of our house and still sound good.
I'm currently with a 10-year-old 1080p Dell monitor. Looking forward to be *amazed out of my mind* with a 40(-something) inch QDOLED when they come out - gonna be one hell of an upgrade :D
I just want a 24inch 240hz..... The display I had my eye on was discontinued. No. I don't want curved. No, 27inc his too big for 1080p. NO. I do NOT want less fps for a larger resolution. I want what I have now. But faster.
@@Wylie288 Just get the 24.5 390hz from Microcenter. It’s only $329! I have it, it’s amazing. Also has better reviews than more expensive 360hz monitors like the Alienware that only go to 360hz. The reason it’s cheaper is because it’s just Freesync but it works fine on Nvidia. You also won’t get 390hz (you get lower input lag too even if you’re not hitting that fps) on any other monitor.
@@Wylie288 getting hung up on curves will just limit your options to pretty much nothing. a good curve is literally unnoticeable, my 32-inch monitor curves about 1-2 cm from the middle to the edge
@@sircalvin nope, curve is noticeable, and yes, I used to have an 1800R 32". When I moved countries, I made sure both my replacement monitors are now flat screens. I'd not be able to tell the difference between something like 140Hz and 300Hz probably, waiting on that seems like an odd move, and going higher resolution is fine for a lot of games now with DLSS upscaling as performance will be similar while quality will be better, 1440p is a good resolution at the moment, especially once you hit 27" as at 1080p you can see pixels with text at 1m (or at least I can).
I'll wait for the second or third generation of this product so that the size options increase and the software matures significantly. Otherwise these look amazing and I am genuinely excited to get my hands on one.
Yeah... the idea that they can't remember choices / patterns of users and do what they want or even just ASK them. And then the FORCED decisions because of data collection and app advertising.... Meh. Full audio on the home screen is an ABSOLUTE no-buy from me, even if the panel is good. I'm not dealing with janky, oddly playing audio every time I turn on my TV. And if it's not janky now... it will be in 1-3 years when they add more bloat.....
That's why i've decided never to buy a TV again. I'll just buy a PC monitor (They're usually better and more responsive anyway) and then just plug an Android Box into the HDMI port, and i have myself a smart-TV that is actually smart, better, and cheaper too. :P That's the exact setup i have in my bedroom now. xD Make sure that monitor is mid-range fast-IPS panel type, and voilah, you are in possession of the best TV the market has to offer, 100% color gamut (Great for consumers), 1ms response time (Great for gaming, AND it can handle fast movement in movies and series without blotching or smearing/smudging), 240 hz refresh rate (butter-smooth performance), HDR (Immersive contrast)... It's just the fking best. :P
@@MyouKyuubi you can’t get a 75 or 85 inch mini led tv or qd oled monitor or monitor in general. Also if you have a family or have people over at the house all wanting to watch a movie or tv, you can’t just all sit around a damn pc monitor😂 you still need a tv.
@@MyouKyuubi also you’re completely wrong. Even the best ips monitors while yes they are more responsive, they have no where near the picture quality, colors, contrast or black levels as an actual mini led or oled tv. I like this style of review. You were discovering all of the annoying parts while also being blown away by the the best parts about the product. Feels like a true review. I want to buy this TV based on this review. Great job.
the tv seems to STUPIDLY be using the "samsung smart things" menus/nomenclature in order to connect to ALL things, instead of just to wireless things, because thats EXACTLY how the new "smart things" interface for the phones works too, it even shows direct connected headphones and game controllers in its menus now....
@Lycanthrope nah we'll ignore the shady stuff on a really good product n rip those thar truly deserve it like Putin, our revenge on him will happen soon enough
@Lycanthrope There's a big difference between a coverup and giving credit where it's due. He continuously was mad about the scandal but did clarify that it still looks good--because it does. Lying about a bad thing/company/person to make it/them look even worse because it feels fitting at the time is still lying.
As someone who hasn't used a TV in years, it's quite mesmerizing watching the different features they've added to them... and how annoying some of them are. And also how these TVs are as expensive as entire gaming PCs. I get that it's OLED but still, 3-4 grand seems insane for just a TV.
you have no idea how happy people are to have the best TV possible. there's a huge market for it. unlike phones, people do tend to only upgrade every 5-10 years, but for some reason they really want THE BEST when they decide to upgrade, and nothing short of it. it doesn't make any sense, but so doesn't buying the best smartphone every 1-2 years when you literally don't make use of nor care for its capabilities. I don't know what it is, but there's just something in most people that makes them think they need the best.

They still suffer from burn in. Maybe in 2 or 3 years we'll get those.
Really love the sound of this but as someone who uses his TV for 16 hours a day as a pc screen I can’t risk the burn in yet. Have to let people test it. I’m on the 2020 Samsung tv which was probably the best non oled you could get so I can hold out a little longer for that perfect blacks burn in “proof” pc TV
just bought a 2-year-old B9 (seller said it was used 3-4 hours a day for TV use only), so hello, I'm one of your testers. I use it many hours a day for desktop and will also use it for gaming.
As a buyer and user of a B7 since 2018, I can promisee you burn in. It only deepends on ho much you use it. For me it took a little over 2 years (on app. 22 hours a day)
@@JesperValentine I had an E6 that suffered some mild burn in specifically where red was being pushed hard. The newer LGs are less susceptible apparently, but not immune. For me it took about 5 years of constant use and the burn in was still only detectable when I had a big red or orange section of screen. In cinema content it was pretty well invisible. In this case the tech is sufficiently different that it's hard to make direct comparisons. There is no white subpixel and no color filter layer.
@@aadisahni I barely interact with my TV’s UI, I set the picture mode settings and most of my hdmi devices auto switch when I turn them on. So I guess it varies person to person.

I have a Bose 700 speaker bar with the surround speakers and the 700 sub…dialogue is perfect even in loud scenes. It amazes me how great the sound is on that set.
I agree. I think people get their rocks off bashing Samsung lol, as all the UI’s have annoying issues on LG and Sony. Yes the UI sucks (don’t they all as many use Nvidia Shields, Apple TV’s, Amazon Fire, and etc to navigate), but there’s plenty of fast work arounds like you said on the Home Screen, it’s just people are too lazy to do so or find the faster ways to navigate. I might have to do a video about this, but people will still complain even if I show them they can do most things in 1 click lol
Next year we should get a 32 inch monitor version of this. With DisplayPort 2.0 finally arriving this year with GPUs, we should get 240Hz 4K at 32 inches
@@Hexxagone850 When they released the QD-OLED Alienware 34 inch monitor, they said they could go much higher than 175Hz. It the cost is huge. No matter how good any TV gets, ill never spend more than $1500. Even if its the BEST EVER and the last TV made on the planet. Its just not happening for me and many others. I know the store owners in my country for the biggest stores, and they barely sell any TV above $2500. Its like 15% of the people get them (at most, and here, i dunno about other places) This is like OLED wont be in everyone's house anytime soon. New tech is better for burn in, but the cost is huge. Old tech is cheaper, but it has bigger chances for problems. Its a no no situation.
I'm definitely going to wait for this tech to become more affordable, hearing people gush about it only makes me excited to see one in person on store shelves soon. What game were they playing right at the start of the gaming section? It looked pretty good on that TV
I'd still rather have a "dumb" (read "non-Smart") TV. I have no problem with 4K, OLED, and all that stuff. What I don't like is the built-in software that goes with the functions of Smart TVs. It's just more stuff that can go wrong. Also the increasing amount of bloatware and the introduction of non-removable ads [**cough cough Samsung**] on these newer Smart TVs is ridiculous.
Yeah... I LOVED the early days of smart TVs. Albeit the software was a bit slow, it was optimized and worked. Then they decided to add data collection, tracking, advertisements, and so much bloat..... and then obv dumb UX decisions. I feel hiding the inputs into the sub menu is a way to increase the "ad watch time" ever so slightly, to increase profits. Because.... why not?

Recently boxed up my last ever Samsung TV. In just a year or less it developed some really bad temporary image retention tendencies, dirty screen effect (seriously, a solid gray screen looked like a damn shower curtain), and the "smart" OS was so bad I had to plug a streaming device in anyway, so it might as well have been a monitor and HDMI switch. I bought it because way back when LCD TVs were a new thing, everyone raved about Samsung being the king (and maybe they were). I should have looked at more recent commentary.

Their TV color-adjusted "A.I." is absolutely dogshit fake and horrendous... easily could say it fake like a iPhone selfie. Untrustworthy. oh and the Samsung fanboy is absolutely hivemind compareable to the Apple fanboy, both is trash tier
Echoing what others have said: Samsung: I would return this TV if i got it for FREE due to the menu. I would return it if I got PAID to keep it. That is a horrific interface, ontop of having ads that can't be stopped, and that audio autoplaying... I don't care if that's an amazing screen, that's the worst TV I have ever seen. Alibaba $200 specials are better.
100% agree. Just make it 500$ more if they need the ads to make a profit. Clean simple menu, source button, nothing pre-installed, no ads. Like this TV costs probably as much as a small used car. And you still have to watch ads, direct return if I'd got that.

Early October I purchased a QD OLED S95B 55in from Samsung Canada. After a month of tweaking and calibration, I still faced motion issues watching LIVE CONTENT. FPS drop from 60FPS to 30 every 1-2 min, it jerks and looks like I'm watching a 24p movie. Called for support and I was appointed a technician. Saw what I was talking about and mentioned that it is what it is. Maybe a firmware update can help, but Samsung releases 1-2 per year a firmware update. Technician mentioned that it is by design. I have an A95K based on the same panel and it does not have any motion issues like the S95B. Called back support & request Full refund as I'm not satisfied. Support Agent had a very bad approach and kept pushing back and rely on Samsung politics. And after a few years of usage, a rather annoying issue has popped up. It’s got a lot of bright circles all over the screen.

Yes, LG owns TV market.
Same but mine is the 65 inch, but my phone which is an oled samsung note 20 ultra looks much better than my lg c1 tv due to 1,000 nits brightness.

03:13 It gets an accurate image to calibrate because on those specific phones, they know EXACTLY what the calibration profile of the phone camera itself is, so therefor they can tell exactly what colors it's seeing on the TV.
Precisely
Exactly. Seems so obvious that I was surprised that Linus would say that. It does mean that those phones have very consistent cameras.
I wish it didn'ty work with Samsung tv's only
Well... those cameras are essentially made by Samsung themselves either ways no surprises they knw the exact calibration profile

I wish more manufactures would deploy modern tech like this without the software
I miss dumb TVs, I literally have neve used a smart TVs apps in my life, the device I'm displaying on the TV already has them and is 99% of the time a better experience
You just gotta know what to look for:
"Digital Signage Display"
They're basically dumb TVs that're used in stores, like at McDonalds to show the current menu.
My cheap af tcl is a roku TV, but I didn't connect it to the internet. I will say if a tv requires internet connection to even function i would be in your shoes too.

When comparing the pricing I'd mention that the Alienware Monitor equivalent is "only" $1,300.
Still premium, but easier to swing.
You didn't mention some caveats. Dell monitor is only sold through their website (can only order if you live in a handful of countries) and waiting times are like half a year+. Also I read about lots of QC issues with that Dell monitor. QN95B you can buy right now and 55" isn't THAT much more expensive than Dell's monitor.
@@Glotttis Depends on what country you live in. In sweden it can be bought through regular stores.

You'll notice it's only best buy employees complaining, ive yet to hear of permanent burn in from a real user (heard it from a few LG G2 owners though)
Best buy demo tv's are not representative of real world use.
@@danielkissgremsperger3242Is it worth spending $2k for this? Love Samsung products usually
A couple of points from someone who sells TVs, including Samsung:
Companies "cheat" on these tests because consumers with zero knowledge of how electronics work go online and look at Rtings or Consumer Reports and that is their be all and end all.

I don't want to run the various streaming apps, they all suck too, just let me connect to my media PC and move on
LG has them, they're taking their tv and strip down all the tv bloats and rebrand them as a gaming monitor

People who actually are in the market for best of the best picture quality will laugh at these menu complaints, because if you are fed up with crappy displays in past 2 decades, you would give anything to make content you are watching look pristine. There is volumes more support for, and content avaliable, in Dolby Vision vs HDR10+.
There is more content for Dolby Vision. We should at least have the option of adding and paying for it. If a $600 Hisense can have it, why can't a $2700 set?
Truth to be told DV means nothing since you can have a 300nit movie packed with a DV 4000nit container which implementation varies per brand.

My C1 already has over 1,100 hours...yes I do a lot of gaming and other use with it.

I waited for the C2 to come out and got a good deal on the 48 inch and open box from best buy with the 65 inch. Could not be happier with the C1.

@@MaaZeus I know, I couldn't believe this but it is true 100%, these kinds of practices should be illegal. This is the only video I could find on the subject ua-cam.com/video/OergXd20Jrc/v-deo.html it is in spanish but it has English subtitles, however I've seen complaints in the Samsung website for some latin american countries and I couldn't believe my eyes.
they also do every other line different colors to cheat color tests like on the g7 monitor. the g7 monitor fakes contrast and colors and i wouldn't have bought it had i known
Good job shouting out Vincent who first discovered this. He deserves more attention.

Just bought a 55 LG C1 for less than half the recommended retail, might look at this sort of TV in 2-3 years
I remember on a recent LTT Samsung screen technology video someone was questioning why I didn't trust the Samsung curated "comparison". I mean, why would they ever cheat or lie about these things? It's not like short term profit is the only thing that matters... oh wait.
The main question: Can you use it without accepting terms of use?
Yes, but everytime you switch it on or leave the settings you are prompted (I assume for life, mine been doing it FOr 7 months😐) to accept terms and conditions.
You can and but they have a annoying bright green prompt on the screen to accept TOS for useless features everytime you use the television.
Yes…
My S95B pre-calibrated went from Color accuracy Delta E of 17,43 to 0,98 in HDR Movie profile.
Luminance Accuracy went from an AVG of 13,54 to 0,39. Max Luminance was 954,1 cd/m^2. Only problem area was EOTF in the middle of the curve *slightly* boosting.
Whatever Linus said here, this TV is absolutely mind blowing. The only tv i've seen come even slightly close was the LG G3 and even then this one beats in in terms of color.

@@justsaying993 HDR10+ uses dynamic metadata, not static.
Other than that you are correct
HDR 10+ standard was actually created by Samsung, Panasonic and 20th century fox
@@justsaying993 None of the TVs from any company has 12 bit panel to make 12 bit DV which there are rarely any 12bit content useful. HDR 10+ is different from HDR 10 which is a static metadata.

For all the red and yellow highlights QD advances in, I think the brown color advances too, especially because manufacturers have this meticulous goal to make TVs thin as possible
Really sad to see horrible ui systems still around. I assumed they paid one internet to fix that
I did a stint with UI with a project team at a bigger company. Let me tell you something...

Same, I have an old monitor that I'll replace someday, but I hope I can wait until the UI/UX gets a little more bearable

you have no idea how happy people are to have the best TV possible. there's a huge market for it. unlike phones, people do tend to only upgrade every 5-10 years, but for some reason they really want THE BEST when they decide to upgrade, and nothing short of it. it doesn't make any sense, but so doesn't buying the best smartphone every 1-2 years when you literally don't make use of nor care for its capabilities.
