13:04 I actually recently discovered that HTTYD 1 is now available in both SDR and HDR if you purchase it from iTunes (as 2 separately purchasable versions for some reason). The HDR version is just listed as "HDR" tho and not HDR 10, Dolby Vision, etc, but in theory that's still better than SDR. I'm also not sure how recently this additional option became available, or if other platforms have access to it, but I'd hope it isn't just some iTunes exclusive since the movie is fantastic and more people should get to watch it in HDR.
I've really enjoyed seeing Linus' kids getting older the last few years and being involved in videos more like this... I think it's cute (when appropriate).
Ill be honest, Im kinda upset that the "WOAH LOOK INSIDE!" "Why whats inside?" wasnt a throw to the sponsor read. It was a natural tee up and just went right over Linus' head...which yes is a pretty easy thing to happen.
In the GoogleTV interface on our Hisense, there's an option in your account to switch the UI to "App only" mode. This drops all the suggestions menus and just gives you a list of apps to open. (That said, there is still ads in the background at the very top of the menu.)
This video really highlights the upgrades done on the Sony a95 L. Although for someone with older TV models, this could serve as a significant upgrade. Yet, for those who already possess the previous generation, it may not be worth the effort and the money, unless of course, you are a massive techophile.
I just upgraded from my 15 year old LG HDTV to a TCL 55" Q7. Pretty damn good TV for the price, and all of the modern features I want. The panel isn't as nice as the high end Sony or Samsung TVs, but oh well. QLED is a nice upgrade from what I had before.
In your settings you can enable Apps Only Mode, which gets rid of all recommendations and turns the Home Screen into just a grid of installed apps. The only downside is you have to disable it to add new apps.
This sounds good for a guy like me that hates Smart TV stuff. I don't need any of it because i connect a Pc and a console to my TV anyway. Since my current TV is still old school dumb TV and i am thinking of getting a more modern one, do i need to connect it online if you know? I will prefer not to bother with online or link any Google account etc. I want it to be used just like a simple monitor.
I have no idea how anyone else feels but I love the bits with Colin. They remind me of old Marx brothers bits that I used to watch with my dad (yes, I grew up in a weird family)
I've heard that the HDR used across streaming isn't always as good as the HDR used on 4K discs, even if they're both "Dolby Vision". And the bitrate is almost guaranteed to be worse than a disc. So I would say if you're going to demo the screen then you should have a dedicated 4K Blu-ray player playing whatever 4K HDR content you want to demo.
I have my Blu-rays ripped to my Plex server. It was just being a dumb dumb during the shoot. Bottom line is it's a great TV, but wasn't enough of an upgrade over my old one to bother, so it's going back to the office - LS

There was no review. It was an unboxing and first impression. That fits the short circuit description. The labs touched the TV so there might be a review coming or they just wanted to test the brightness and such.
I miss when TVs were just screens for whatever device it was plugged into. Now they have software that WILL get obsolete very soon, and has ads everywhere, and its probably a very slow CPU and stuttery mess. Yes you can use an external android box but you always lose some features that are always exclusive to the internal OS. I would love this TV without any OS and a great discounted price because I didn't have to pay for software development I didn't need
Did you gloss over the power cable that is not removable? Because it LOOKED permanent and now I'm not sure because you just complained it was a downgrade but didn't really say it was permanent?
Linus just seems like a great dad. Also, the kids saying "I dont see a difference except for the cable" with a grin that suggests they know it goes at odds with Linus's in depth analysis 😂.
When it comes to IO, I've noticed that I've really appreciated a couple of easy to reach ports (in the case of my TV, in the front), especially when the TV is mounted on the wall.

So far love it - a big step up from my 7 years old, edge-led 40" (had to make compromises in the old apartment). And ... I knew the remote has a "find me" function... no - I also didn't read the manual - but at least followed the short intro, the TV is showing during initial setup 🤪
For the sign-in loading screen, i have worked at a company that was creating a streaming box. We had a similar screen and we would sync with your account, make sure the device isnt blacklisted, and update the default apps that came with the device. IDK what Google is doing, but i would say its similar, updating Google Play, and services. They might not be able to update until you are logged in based on APIs.

Still rockin my 2021 A90J. I don't think I will ever buy another tv that is as expensive as this lol but it was definitely worth the money. Linus's review was one of the reason that made me buy it too. Thanks Linus!
Oh man, I remember having a tv back in the 90’s that could play sound on the remote by pressing the power button on the tv. Always thought it was a great idea that was almost never used!!
My gal and I have been TV shopping and got to see the side-by-side in store with the older Sony. We hated to admit it, but the difference in the detail in dark parts of scenes in movies was actually markedly different. There were some scenes from that Apple TV show with Harrison Ford where they're talking in front of a campfire at night - lots of dark parts of the screen where other TVs you couldn't discern ANY detail where there was less light, but you could with the A95L. My gal DOES NOT want to spend this much money on ANY TV, but she really reluctantly admitted to being able to see the difference. I would also argue that the colors are better with the A95L, and you experience less washout effect when compared to other leading TVs - especially LG's previous gen C2, and also the C3. The G3 also had some difficulty displaying details in darker parts of nighttime scenes where everything was just black and a lot of detail was lost. Ultimately, this is a personal preference, personal budget kind of decision. Which honestly, it always is. How much money are you willing to spend, how much do you care about these kinds of details, and what kind of TV habits do you and your family have? OLEDs in general pbly aren't a good choice for daytime viewing/background news and sports. But if you're like us, don't watch TV much during the day and really enjoy having friends over for movie nights. We're really considering biting the bullet and getting an A95L....
A few months ago I got a 65" X95L. It's such a step up from my previous 4K Samsung. However I agree with what Linus is saying, if you have bought a TV in the last ~4 years, there's probably very little reason to upgrade at this time.
I bought a usb universal remote with a keyboard on the back and air remote features as well as a touch pad just for the feature of making the remote beep of it was misplaced. It is also chargeable. It is by far the best usb remote I've bought. The button you push if it comes up missing is on the usb sensor. It is great.
What annoys me with usb universal remotes is that most of the time you cannot set them up using Linux. (I discovered that after one of my parents' dogs disassembled the original remote of their TV into tiny pieces.) One of the reasons I still have a Windows VM alongside upgrading the firmwares of some usb devices.
I have been suggesting that "pager" function on tv remotes for probably the last 25+ years. They did it on wireless home phones in the 80s, what took so long for tv's to have this simple and super functional feature. This should be standard on all TVs by now.
The A95K and L aren't the brightest it's possible to buy, but they are still really bright! We had friends over to watch The Batman on our A95K in our basement den (no other lights), and in the closeup scene of the motorcycle pulling up the headlight actually hurt our eyes as if it were a real headlight! Our friends actually yelped in pain and averted their eyes, it was hilarious
Modifying what is shown on the home screen is done via: settings > Device Preferences > Home Screen. You can enable/disable which apps are allowed to show up on the home screen. AFAIK this is available on every Google/Android TV.
There should be a toggle somewhere in the menus that allows locking the settings. I dont have this model, but an X950G that is running on an updated OS that should be similar.
i sincerely hope your kids turn into huge nerds like mine did. it makes family entertainment night soooooo much fun! we throw DnD dice a lot, and my oldest plays DayZ with me
I've honestly been really indecisive between the Sony A95L and the LG C/G3 or up coming C/G4 models. I do love the way QD-OLED looks in my ultrawide screen.
I thought that Linus’ kids were it going to set up the sponsor segway gag when they exclaimed “look inside the box” and Linus was going to say “oh look it is our sponsor!”

@@JayJay-jx3zg The Bravia XR chip on the A95L is exactly the same. The only thing the A95L can do that the A95K can't is 4K120 Dolby Vision. The A95K does 4K120 or 4K60 Dolby Vision. Also, I don't care for streaming apps at all because I treat my A95K like a monitor: always offline and fed with an HDMI signal from my PC. So the amount of RAM is irrelevant. Audio is sent to discrete speakers: I don't trust the built-in speakers behind the screen at all and feel they may affect screen longevity.
I purchased an A95L 77" about a month ago. The way it upscales content, from my Betamax player, is sick.
0:50 would have been the perfect sponsor segue
Missed opportunity haha "hey what''s inside?" 'o look it's a segue, to our sponsor'
Oh my god you are absolutely RIGHT, Linus should be ashamed of himself for not getting that one
Linus’s segue game is getting weak
Yeah, they should tell Linus to go home. Oh, wait...😅
@@HerpaDerp-ht8hyseeing just how scripted these videos get. I suspect that wasn't planned because scripting the actions of kids is rather difficult so he wasn't thinking about it at the time.
I can't believe how big your kids are getting. Definitely helps me feel old for sure but now that I have my own it's amazing how fast she's growing up too
Is that a katana within touching distance of the kids? LOVE IT!
lol Linus is probably the only tv reviewer who would give the finger on camera to the system setup showing the real world frustration that many of us would feel. Great stuff
The 2019 4K Blu-Ray of it also has HDR
Yeah i was watching it on peacock premium and i coulda sworn i was watching hdr. The opening scene in HDR just looks soo good you can't mistake it
I'm going to have to get that. I love that movie - LS
my apple tv shows it as hdr10+
I've really enjoyed seeing Linus' kids getting older the last few years and being involved in videos more like this... I think it's cute (when appropriate).
I love Linus home videos!
Love how Linuses kid was sitting on the tv lol
Those would be some dead dimming zones on an LCD.
Imma buy it. ❤
edit: 5:01 .. I think the Sarah pic convinced me I also need a Linus Tech Tips hoodie…
This video really highlights the upgrades done on the Sony a95 L. Although for someone with older TV models, this could serve as a significant upgrade. Yet, for those who already possess the previous generation, it may not be worth the effort and the money, unless of course, you are a massive techophile.
Linus upgrading TVs every 6 months for a decade any% speedrun
Love the new ShortCircuit set!
I can't believe his kids set him up for the perfect sponsor segue and he just completely dropped the ball. Very disappointing from Linus.
At least the ball was nice and smooth.
They remind me of old Marx brothers bits that I used to watch with my dad (yes, I grew up in a weird family)
... Because you watched Marx brothers? How is that considered weird?
He is the Stig.
@@ShortCircuit Makes total sense. Also, wasn't sure if you saw my comment about How To Train Your Dragon being available on 4K Blu-ray with HDR10. It's an up-scale, pun completely intended, but the image and HDR are great. Great movie too.
The fact there are still electronics coming out today with 10/100 is insane
I just for an X93L and absolutely love it. It's my first Sony TV and I can understand the hype around them now. The processing of Sony TV's is just amazing
On Google TV you can change which services are allowed to give you suggestions in the account -> services section.
Camera on a TV, nothing to worry about, right?
At least it's detachable...?
He took it off by the next shot lmao
“Were you kneeling on the tv?”
“👀… ..no”
😂😂 so wholesome and cute. His kids will love looking back at this stuff 20 years from now lol
Why is this under shortcircuit ?
There was no review. It was an unboxing and first impression. That fits the short circuit description. The labs touched the TV so there might be a review coming or they just wanted to test the brightness and such.
No surprises there. Most tv's are the same year by year. The only difference is if you wait at least 3-4 years, and then it might be worth upgrading
As a dad myself i like the videos where linus is in dad mode
i dont
Honesty is so refreshing
1 billion WHAT now?
Organisms
I miss when TVs were just screens for whatever device it was plugged into. Now they have software that WILL get obsolete very soon, and has ads everywhere, and its probably a very slow CPU and stuttery mess. Yes you can use an external android box but you always lose some features that are always exclusive to the internal OS. I would love this TV without any OS and a great discounted price because I didn't have to pay for software development I didn't need
Did you gloss over the power cable that is not removable? Because it LOOKED permanent and now I'm not sure because you just complained it was a downgrade but didn't really say it was permanent?
I'm a minute in and he says "What's inside?" and looks in and it isn't a segue to our sponsor. My heart is BROKEN.
3:25 1 billion what??
If you use the usb 3.0 port you can get gigabit wired speeds. Needs to be a specific dongle brand but can confirm it does work.
5:35 I don't know how I feel about the child immediately and convincingly lying to Linus.
Linus just seems like a great dad. Also, the kids saying "I dont see a difference except for the cable" with a grin that suggests they know it goes at odds with Linus's in depth analysis 😂.
Reason number 1 the wife said no
When it comes to IO, I've noticed that I've really appreciated a couple of easy to reach ports (in the case of my TV, in the front), especially when the TV is mounted on the wall.
I need to know what the best mid tier tv with the maximum lumens for games, HDR on my 4k LG looks so dark despite it being on vivid…. I legit can’t play HDR games in the day I have to wait for dark
Ha! ... Once I got the new tech earlier, than Linus 😁
Unboxed the Mini LED Version X95L of the Sony lineup 3 weeks ago - also in 65". So far love it - a big step up from my 7 years old, edge-led 40" (had to make compromises in the old apartment).
And ... I knew the remote has a "find me" function... no - I also didn't read the manual - but at least followed the short intro, the TV is showing during initial setup 🤪
What a wasted opportunity to use "WOW look inside" as a segue to your sponsor.
Whenever I hear "Me Please" it puts a smile on my face.
No
1 Billion Orgasms?!?!?!?
For the sign-in loading screen, i have worked at a company that was creating a streaming box. We had a similar screen and we would sync with your account, make sure the device isnt blacklisted, and update the default apps that came with the device. IDK what Google is doing, but i would say its similar, updating Google Play, and services. They might not be able to update until you are logged in based on APIs.
Yo so the TubiTV thing is so relatable. I hate how on UA-cam it’ll sometimes show unrelated gross trypophobia triggering stuff when I’m searching for tech videos. I can’t tell it to stop.
Always thought it was a great idea that was almost never used!!
his daughter kneeling on the tv then saying no after he asked knowing he has video evidence is crazy work
My gal and I have been TV shopping and got to see the side-by-side in store with the older Sony.
I’m so used to odd Segways to sponsors so at 0:55 when Linus said what’s inside I thought he was going to go to an ad spot 😂
I bought a usb universal remote with a keyboard on the back and air remote features as well as a touch pad just for the feature of making the remote beep of it was misplaced. It is also chargeable. It is by far the best usb remote I've bought. The button you push if it comes up missing is on the usb sensor. It is great.
Sounds interesting, but which exact model are you recommending?
What annoys me with usb universal remotes is that most of the time you cannot set them up using Linux. (I discovered that after one of my parents' dogs disassembled the original remote of their TV into tiny pieces.) One of the reasons I still have a Windows VM alongside upgrading the firmwares of some usb devices.
Very impressive tv. No issues setting up the Bravia gestures. Coming from the A90J the image is significantly better.
Do u think it’s worth the upgrade I’m in the same position
I have this TV. Definitely better than my 12 year old Panasonic plasma. Supposedly, the next model will not be a QD OLED.
I have been suggesting that "pager" function on tv remotes for probably the last 25+ years. They did it on wireless home phones in the 80s, what took so long for tv's to have this simple and super functional feature. This should be standard on all TVs by now.
I have the A80L and I’m in love with it
The A95K and L aren't the brightest it's possible to buy, but they are still really bright!
I love how SCs aren't a review, but still really helpful
There should be a toggle somewhere in the menus that allows locking the settings. I dont have this model, but an X950G that is running on an updated OS that should be similar.
As soon as a baby Linus appeared I knew this was going to be a good episode
I would love to see the tv display settings you ended on. Or maybe video on how to self “calibrate” a new tv
i sincerely hope your kids turn into huge nerds like mine did. it makes family entertainment night soooooo much fun! we throw DnD dice a lot, and my oldest plays DayZ with me
I've honestly been really indecisive between the Sony A95L and the LG C/G3 or up coming C/G4 models. I do love the way QD-OLED looks in my ultrawide screen.
6:00 the way they jump to help you it's so freaking cute.
You can switch to apps only mode to get rid of all the bloat.
@0:51 When he said "wow, look inside!" I was shocked the contents of the box wasn't... our sponsor 😮
Have the same tv as Linus' original one basically since it came out, only now learning about that find remote feature
You actually can get rid of tubi! It’s very hidden but it’s defiantly possible as I had the same issue with the gross recommendations
Not gonna lie. Seeing Linus’s daughter in the LTT hoodie was super adorable. Upvote!
I thought that Linus’ kids were it going to set up the sponsor segway gag when they exclaimed “look inside the box” and Linus was going to say “oh look it is our sponsor!”
Just purchased the 77" yesterday to move a 65" to the bedroom (had to replace a 55" with a cracked screen from our move). It's menu, I find, is a heck of a lot more complicated than the roku menu we're used to. I would also like to get rid of the menu stuff we don't use.
''whoa look inside'' i was expecting a segue to a sponsor there not gonna lie 😂
you can turn off the home app page in tv settings and just show the main input instead
Thanks. These almost all family thingamajigis are fun to watch.🎉😂
Is there a video on the settings you should change on your smart tv. Maybe for each major brand?
