I agree. I get a new job and I always get sacked within 6 to 9 months because I'm to rebellious towards people trying to control me. Employers don't allow people to do a job in a way they want as individuals. I can never meet the standards of other peoples expectations.

Yea it's hard to keep people calm while telling them something like the way they are raising their child is completely wrong lol. Wish I lived in a world where people could just take those things solely rationally, but one thing is for sure, there are things I care about as an ENTP that I know can trigger me too. But still, I will come back to some sort of rationality, I hope people do that too.

It is true, too. All the ENxPs I know have a pervasive disregard for their own mortality in all matters Se. And then get hung up on weird shit like injections and viruses.
To a person with inferior Se, who is completely opposite (don't give a shit about my health, is mortally afraid of driving a car and potentially killing myself) it seems ludicrous, but the reality is that both Ne and Ni users just need to get a fucking grip. 😂
ENTP here. I was laughing while listening to you try to be so gentle while describing our objectivity (aka coldness) and thought, "He knows mostly ENTPs will be watching this, right?" Lol don't worry we're aware.
I found the part about being unable to make emotional connections and becoming lonely (like INFJs) very true. I want fulfilling relationships, but sometimes they don't come easily for me. I'm not the most emotionally expressive person and for a teenage girl I feel like this isn't the best quality to have (not sure if this is true for all ENTPs, but I often repress my own feelings and am more receptive to others emotions than my own). Me and my INFJ friend deal a lot with loneliness. Great video, you're one of the few people I've seen on UA-cam to add new interesting things to the discussion on this topic. All your points were extremely accurate and descriptive.

Yeah the stereotypical ESFJ female will have an easier experience in this area. You most likely will need to find a guy you can bounce ideas back and forth with. May take time to feel like it is a normal relationship but it will grow on you and you may be surprised of how fulfilling it can be. I would suggest trying to meet Ne doms or Ne auxiliary users. Like the INTPs, ENTP, & ENFP. These guys will come across as possibly weird or goofy to you. Far from the stereotypical popular ESTP, ESTJ, ESFP types you may notice more while in high school.

I relate to this so much! As a teenage entp I always hated me behaving and thinking so 'grown up' while everyone around me was having fun doing kind of silly things which are only funny to me for a few minutes.. At these times I often feel very lonely despite of being surrounded by my best friends.. when I met 'my' first infj person last year we immediately became friends and I feel really good being able to connect with someone who understands how I think and why I'm behaving a particular way
best unsolicited advice I can offer as a more experienced ENTP (I'm 39) would be to work toward fostering an unflinching courage to be as honest as possible with how you feel; internally and externally.
There's no magic bullet or easy out. this takes work for us.

I've been typed as ENTP and INTP on multiple tests and relate heavily with the ENTP personality archetype but I feel like I've got a pretty weak Ti because of my overemphasis on my Fe. I'm curious if this is the reason for your advice towards putting a heavier focus on truth.
edit: the overemphasis on Fe is likely due to the family I grew up in being very emotionally scarred because of my fathers murder. Ok over sharing over :P

You're a bloody guinea pig, nobody wants to know you in a much deeper level, they just want to pet you.
It's hard being an ENTP. The things we struggle with are more uncommon and nuanced than what the general population struggles with. If you are a successful ENTP you have great support and a lot of luck. Otherwise you are doomed to live an inconsistent life with no discipline and self control, no clear path that lasts more than 3 months. Doomed to be multitalented, but without the singular prolonged focus in one thing or basic self management skills, and no tolerance for routine, nothing comes to fruition. Most likely will end up with a mediocre existence working a job you hate and be fired for getting there late 8 times in a row, relying on pure persuasion and self presentation, and a great imagination to not get fired the first 7. We were not made for this world. I am an ENTP and surrounded by an overly serious SJ all work no play family who values being a hard working American who loves Jesus and respects authority more than thinking for yourself and and being open minded.
Basically it's a drag, but, no pun intended, at least I have Mary Jane.

I am an ENTP and this is spot on, except for the emotional part. At least for me, I use logic to find the root of what I'm feeling or what I see someone else is feeling, and I explore that every which way until I know the ultimate truth of that emotion, then I process principles mentally and emotionally to get the desired outcome. It seems not in touch emotionally, but it's really because you've already decided beforehand how to respond, how I feel, so when stimulus happens, it's already an answered question. You already have a prepared response. A lot of times you see patterns people don't see so you know where's something's going or at least the possibilities and you've processed your emotions ahead of time. Also, we are very concrete in truth. You know something is true because it stands up to scrutiny. So I welcome scrutiny because truth doesn't really need to be protected through emotion or other theory. You present it and it stands on its own.

I love these videos. After learning about this personality type I can understand why my mom is so argumentative. Being able to disconnect herself from emotionally dramatic situations is a very good trait for her to have. It's because her crazy relatives will try to bother her, but become infuriated when she doesn't react emotionally. It's really funny. She's very good at talking to people in a friendly way. Even people she recently met will confide in her about their private life and emotions, and she is a very good listener who can break down problems and make anyone see things from a different view.

The part about your Mom's crazy relatives made me laugh. One sister angrily once tried to engage me in a stupid argument, and when I continued speaking pleasantly and controlled, she snapped at me, "You don't have to talk so nicey-nice!"

One way i describe it to people is that Debating is like the "sport" of conversation. Conversations and debates do the same thing for me but debating makes it into a game, which is obviously more fun. It's not that cut and dry in that i think debating is a bit more effective at figuring out where peoples logical limit to their position are but has the down side of closing some people off. It's a person to person thing.

Education and training are key for the ENTP. None of us naturally works diligently (empathy!), patiently or with perseverance. Creativity alone got you here, it most likely won't get you "there". (Boring) daily physical, cognitive and emotional training and systematic & creative work will. Otherwise, your hero's journey (J. Campbell) might end "before you get to bring the boon back".
This comment really speaks to me as an entp and shows me points I myself should work on.I find it unbelievably relatable because entps are viewed as “smart” when in reality the only thing that makes them “smart” is looking at every possibility and childlike enthusiasm towards things that interest (usually science’s psychology and philosophy) them,and completely disregard the things that don’t which leave you only getting half way to your goal and down hearted it didn’t work out...it takes alot more than planning and creativity it also takes action.
I have this same writing style sometimes where I write down the source of an idea in parentheses.
could you please provide some concrete examples of what daily physical, cognitive and emotional training looks like? do you have a set regimen?
@@IIISWILIII Basically you develop a checklist through safe-to-fail experiments with n=1 (yourself). Our 'idiosyncracies' are more important than our commonalities, so it makes no sense to 'copy' someone else's checklist. Don't confuse correlation with causation and simulation with prediction. And use the "active questioning technique'.
These are 10 questions that could work as a starting point:
1. Did I do my best to get 8 hours of sleep today?
2. Did I eat healthy and nutrient-rich food today?
3. Did I exercise and take a walk today?
4. Did I spend time with my beloved ones today?
5. Did I learn something new, useful, and interesting today?
6. Did I help someone else today?
7. Did I do my best to make progress on (insert meaningful goal here) today?
8. Did I have fun today?
9. Did I celebrate my digital sunset (i.e., turning off all electronics one hour before bedtime)?
10. Did I do my best to e.g. meditate, journal, etc. today?

ENTP here, love your vids btw, i overall agree with most of this video. The only criticism i can think of right now is that I actually think the ENTPs ability to explain abstract concepts in understandable ways has more to do with Ne than Ti with their tendency to relate complicated ideas to concepts the person is more familiar with. I think it’s primarily Ne and Fe that account for this. Hence why the INFJ isn’t as known for this.
A very good point. I've seen that too -- Ne and Fe are the more "conversational" functions after all.
Loved the video! I'm and ENFP with an ENTP father. I loved being able to see and understand all of our similarities and differences. I've always been a daddy's girl, but I definitely drive him crazy with my Fi. Poor guy had been trying to debate logic into me for a long time.

But they also had selfish, self centred attitudes because they were bitches who always ganged up on me in a debate with others in the office because they couldn't win a debate with me 1 on 1. And I say 'were' because I now work somewhere else.

9:40 This was so funny to me. This is a direct quote from my interaction with my mentor who bumbarts me with questions about the material, "stop answering my questions with questions!" ENTP to ENTP relationships are like a tug of war, a fight to see whos the more arguable. He asks questions, he thinks I'm right but he asks more to get into more details of the subject, the more details we dive into the more vague his questions- so the more I answer his questions with questions. Needless to say we both left the interaction exhasted (and slightly impressed). It was toxic and fun.

about the analogy of the rocks at the end, as an entp (idk if I'm representative in this matter) the reluctance to hold concrete beliefs like a stable anchor is not about limiting freedom and shutting down creative exploration, but, contrary to many people, being unwilling to settle for what might be a lie, and being more comfortable with the void of doubt and uncertainty than the possibility of holding to belief in something false. if an entp does have concrete beliefs they will, in those beliefs, (in my experience anyway), be insistent and enthusiastically dedicated to them. (this confuses people, an entp believing a few things so passionately and, in the eyes of onlookers, stubbornly, but approaching everything else in classic sceptical, unconventional, inquisitive, creative, playful or scarily serious investigator style that trusts no one or thing and questions everything but provides no answers either.) So basically, entps can and do hold a lot of strong opinions, but these are always carefully thought through examined critiqued and questioned. an entp cannot settle for believing wholeheartedly something they have doubts about (and entps doubt a lot - because they see every angle and can see when they cannot see every angle, an entp might readily quote: "all I know is that I know nothing"). but a persuasive entp is one who reaallly believes in what they're debating for. and if it's something life changing... they won't shut up about it. :)

Almost all of the times you said "I don't know/ it's not certain all ENTPs feel this way"- you were putting it all into the right words.
After finding out the TiFe axis is more conscious, and that I've been shy/ anti-social around peers until recently, really pushed me from thinking I'm INTP over to the realization of ENTP. Especially everything said about presentation.

People are too rigid with their understanding of this MBTI stuff anyway. A lot of INTP's are similar to the sort of ENTP described in this video where as a lot of others wouldn't begin to truly relate and would find an INFP profile easier to relate to. All of this ENTP stuff fits me just as much as all the INTP stuff; devil's advocate extraordinaire. Some people who almost always test as ENTP will have a significantly more developed Ti than Ne and the reverse for some who almost always test as INTP. This touted MBTI typology method is useful but should be a bible for nobody.
One part of the puzzle... and one that attempts to specifically categorise attributes which exist and traverse, often enough, continuous scales.
That's one impressive list of great scientists and visionaries that would even make the INTJ jealous.

You will be a great psychology teacher. I was well informed of stuff I already knew about myself, but this made me concertise my knowledge, it's good to see people that think the same sociological way.
I think the key distinction to be made regarding the axis is that in the 1/4 slots, Ne/Si are inversely proportional, whereas when they occur in some other slots, they can work together. Additionally, Ne is fundamentally a "negative space" way of understanding, exclusive, where "positive space" Ni is inclusive. One might also distinguish between them as deductive (from general to specific) vs inferential (from specific to general). This is a very good video, by the way.

You say that ENTPs are lonely because they lack the ability to emotionally connect with others but I think that is false. ENTPs are lonely because they have unique ideas and perspectives. They want to emotionally connect and have the ability to but at times lack social intelligence. They wonder why they upset or drive others away.

I'm an INTP in a long term relationship with an ENTP and I beg to differ. She is very intelligent and more sociable than I, but somehow socially clueless sometimes, compared to me who watches everything and when I socialize I am much more careful, while ends up offending some people sometimes when it was not needed at all, or lashing out at a store manager or something before trying to fix things through patience and proper conversation.
I don't think I really agree with you, at least in my case as an ENTP, I know when I upset someone and I always know why though sometimes it is just intentional to push their buttons. If I'm having an argument with someone or if someone gets on my nerves, I will purposefully drive them away. I can have patience when I want, but sometimes I'm aggravated so I could honestly care less about peaceful discussion, and I don't regret it afterwards either. Not everyone all the time sees it as ideal to just talk it through when you dislike a situation.

lol - first of all love your break downs, I am the best type (entp) and your 13:26 point , yes I totally do that, when discussing something I go point by point style - dividing and subdividing or continue to bring an entire conversation back to a focal point so that it can make sense (to me and everyone) ((regardless if they want it to make sense or not))

You nailed it when it's all about discourse (not debating). The roadblocks happen when you ask a question that challenges someone else's belief system - then you're labeled as confrontational or abrasive. It's really frustrating to continually be misunderstood.

I'm an ENTP and I find this video fascinating, which makes sense as this video should generally draw the curiosity of an ENTP more than other kinds of videos. I'd say your Ne/Si statements/conclusions/quote makes a ton of sense and also fits the way I see the world, process the world, etc. I'm am always adding new data and asking, "does the conclusion still fit, does the system still work if this thing here is true, if this specific fact was actually wrong then it would make more sense because it would allow the system to work better" etc etc. The entire system in my mind is a collection of details that work together in some logical way. How and why the various pieces fit together is the goal to understand how something actually works. I am also a programmer and I tend to think of systems in terms of programming. I'd say that most everything you've said is true to some degree or another though there is certain to be variation from person to person, ENTP to ENTP, and certainly from Ne/Ti types and non-Ne/Ti types. non-Ne/Ti types might tend not to grasp what it is that you are actually trying to communicate here it seems. I'm always baffled by other ENTPs who've managed to become programmers. I tried the route in college but quickly found that I found zero joy in the amount of minutiae and patience involved on a daily basis.
I need physical movement and a vast amount of variety in my daily problem solving.

Michael. I thought your analysis was spot on. In your closing comments you discussed the need for ENTPs to leave things open to prevent from getting stuck ... I think more as seekers of data and global thinkers we know that our dataset is never complete. - there are always new discoveries that will add dimension to whatever our current perspective may be. Concrete assumes all the data has been accumulated - that would be pure hubris to assume that is ever possible- every perspective and every person is in a state of continuous improvement - ever contingent on new data
I think the greatest joy to anENTP is knowing that the world is full of possibilities and we are in an ever expanding state. Nothing thrills us more than a new journey, created by a new dimension unexpected Or the fusion of dimensions once thought disparate that suddenly reveal a pattern and a whole new world of potential

I have an INTJ girlfriend, we have been together 16 years, there are so many similarities even though we are opposite in many ways we are logical, rational and we work.
Critical distinction to be made. We believe INDIVIDUALS basically are good and want the same thing. However, unfortunately, many less clear thinking types prioritize group interests, which necessarily results in oppression.

In my head the ultimate form of capitalism will lead to a working communism (as we become completely selfsustainable, there will only be a need for creative work. Which will even be overtaken by computers. Not trying to make it sound bad. But it's kinda obvious if you follow the technological news and see the possibilities. I think when we become selfsustainable (food, health,..) only 90% (very raw estimate) will be necessary. This will become 0 in the end. Then we become obsolete.. Aka some form of communism arrives or we kill most of the population. But for the sake of the scenario, let's assume we don't kill everyone who becomes unnecessary.. We have communism right there. Because there will be no need for work. BUT! I do not see a forced way of communism work EVER before that. If you want to open up your views on why, please read from Solzhenitsyn.. Or how I'd shut it down in one statement. You will never be able to achieve communism because it doesn't go hand in hand with people's greed / self worth. If we take away our hiarchy of value, we will become corrupted from the soul because the other person get's as much for doing more or less. Most of us will do as much work than the least productive person around us because "that is enough to proof our value". We compare ourself. Constantly. And even if you as a person are not functioning like this (and there are people like that). Most of people will not. And we have a very diverse pool of people. It's a great utopia in which most of us WANT to live. It just cannot be done. Anyway if you'd tell me how you would overcome that I'd be interested to hear :-)

I do indeed try to melt everything down to the core to see the principles behind. Knowing the principles makes explaining it to others easier. Also, you can associate different principles with each other to make the other person understand better. I have a way of teaching people that no one else seems to be able to teach. I thank my Ne for that.

Meaning, they had a metabolism that we would associate much more with a warm warm-bloodedness than cold-bloodedness in modern animals. Possibly something close to a kiwi bird.

Rationals (NTs) do have emotions just like any other type. It is a logical fallacy that they are a bunch of robots with no feelings. They do have emotions just like any other human but it is the way they express themselves that makes it difficult to connect with others.

I believe my best friend is an entp because despite how smart he is he never really seems to stick with any idea long enough to see anything through to completion. He doesn't seem to quite understand the concept that "ideas are cheap and execution is everything"
I am a 40 yr old entp. i just realized how much i love the 'thinking research' part of ...everything.( house buying , jobs, possible vacations, hobbies..ect) We LOVE to research and learn 'stuff, and REALLY love to describe it, but execution is..... boring. It kills my family with my new 'ideas' but little ever comes from it. It KILLS me i cannot share 90% of my thoughts b/c they always want a quantified "when will you do it'. (I am forever alone)

I think a simpler way to describe the way an ENTP s thinking is that we view everything and everyone as a game. We can be manipulative but mainly in a way that helps us understand the person , and that is how we get close to people. We’re open minded but seem close minded because if the opposition does not provide facts we become condescending to try and fire them up to provide fact or invoke unto them a sense of falseness so that they can go and discover the truth.

On the last point, I'd like to add Socrates' refusal to write his thoughts; I think it's definitely the best representation of Inferior Si since it goes to the extreme of not wanting to leave the thoughts outside of the thinker, in opposition to Ni types NEEDING to write down data in order to find patterns and trends. I also consider sensible to add Gulenko's philosophical motivations of the types (for those of us who support the MBTI/Socionics conflation) where he interprets this "system builder" Ne as the manifestation of their belief in an universal designer who set down every single event in history, from which Einstein (whom I consider an ENTP) stated that "God does not play dices", because Ne makes a perfect system which is then implemented by Ti infallible logic (or Te- cautious stability, according to Model G).

Yep this seemed pretty accurate. Definitely the thing I have to focus on the most in my personal relationships is the attempt to appreciate a more 'feeling' perspective, especially when it comes to someone making a choice. And if not that, than at least trying to know when pushing or questioning that choice might not be worth it.
Oh and it's definitely hard constantly being labeled as 'not inclusive' despite actually being often the most inclusive one in the room. I guess it depends on certain people's definitions of what constitutes an important method of contrast between people and what does not.
Otherwise I feel as though I'm far more empathetic than most descriptions of an ENTP give credit for. To a point I get annoyed with myself or at worst, get into situations where I consider it a weakness.
As an INFP I loved this, especially the notes on ENTP/INFP clashes.

@@IIISWILIII Well as I'm an ENTP then I can tell you quite confidently that yes, you clearly are misunderstanding.
ENTP's are future orientated people. Which means that we plan ahead in order to increase our accuracy and success rate in whatever we do, generally speaking of course. Some are better than others at this obviously. But if you look at the description of an ENTP personality type, we like to look at every possible angle of a thought, idea or task. This way, we have a clearer understanding of every possibility and we can therefore eliminate any other possible negative outcomes by choosing the option that presents the best outcome in order to guarantee that we've chosen the best possible option. But if we can't possibly investigate every option, we will therefore feel very vulnerable of making a bad choice and will therefore become cautious.

I joined the army at 17, I burned down every bridge I had because I knew that only I knew what was best for me. I knew what skills i had and what skills I needed. I got stationed in Hawaii went on multiple training deployments to Asia, met thousands of people and lived thousands of different lives. After three years i re-enlisted to move to Germany and do it all again. Three more years after that I got what I wanted. World experience, discipline, and the ability to force myself to stick with something even if it sucks ass. I’m three years into college at 27 with more work, world, and personal growth than people get in their entire lives. Just because your current situation is bad it doesn’t mean you can fix it or change it. Change happens over time, it’s not something that happens instantly. Being an ENTP is a burden because we can see what we are truly capable of. It’s only up to you wether or not you can sense and perceive your way to it.

I'm an ENTP and I do that -> 12:51 . Always got really good marks on English essays and oral presentations*, and my boss at the video rental store that I worked at loved how I dealt with customers over the phone. (*not counting deductions for being late, of course)

Yes, I know two Fi users who I hate. When they're upset everyone has to know, if we're all having fun at a party and they get upset they'll freak out regardless and are so socially embarrassing to be around. Fi is without a doubt the worst function.

In speaking about clearly expressing ourselves I agree that we can take really far out things and ground them but that is more the exception rather than the rule. Most of the the time I am throughly confused about what exactly im trying to say but every once in a while the clouds will part and I can connect the ideas all together. I think what you expressed is the goal of the entp rather than the explicite reality.

I hesitate to say feeling because of the connotations but it's like a logic feeling. I'm guess I'm using feeling more in the concrete sense rather than the emotional one. It's almost like I'm a blind person trying to figure out if two things are in fact the same by running my hands over both at the same time.

I'm an INTP who is very close to an ENTP on the I/E spectrum (53/47). I relate to all of these as well as the INTP. My old boss is fully an ENTP and I can see how he is more charismatic, but I can contend in a comfortable environment with lots of Ne in the air. I feel like a full-fledged ENTP with ENFPs and ENTPs.
