    This Instant Pot Salmon Chowder with Canned Salmon is my favourite soup right now. It's currently the middle of February, so it's chilly outside, and I'm craving hearty comfort food. This chowder is right up my alley because it's super hearty, really quick and easy to make, and uses canned salmon, which means I usually have all the ingredients I need on hand.
    Hey! Thanks for watching!
    I'm Paula. I'm a former professional cook and overall eating enthusiast.
    I started this channel because I love making dinner and I love eating dinner.. but mostly it's because all I've ever wanted in life is to have my own cooking show. When I didn't get a callback after submitting my tape to Food Network in 2003, I put that dream to rest for a while. That is until I clued in that I can do it myself on UA-cam!
    I love sharing the tips I've learned from professional kitchens, as well as tidbits from my holistic nutrition education. But mostly I just want to show you how to make dinner. (See what I did there?) 😄
    My cooking style is simple but flavourful. I cook with a lot of veggies but I'm not vegetarian. A typical dinner for me is plant-forward, budget-friendly, non-fussy, and really delicious. As a step-mom, I make a lot of family-friendly comfort food, as well as a lot of simple, indulgent dinners for one (or two).

    We had this for dinner, tonight. IT WAS A HIT.
    I didn’t have fresh dill so I used dry, but much less obviously. My first bowl I didn’t do the lemon, but added it on my second helping and I loved it even more.
    Next time I will add more salmon, though.
    I’d love to see more recipes using canned salmon.

    Sometimes I add a tad of potato flakes to thicken/cream up my soup.

    Hello - I love your channel and your (funny and dry humour!) style of presenting, not to mention some great cooking ideas. I was wondering if there was enough interest in your audience, if you could do some videos on canned sardines or mackerel or herring, and how to make some delicious meals out of them. thanks again for all the great content!

    I made it last night and it's pretty darn good though I'd cut back on the dill from what I put in. I used a box of Campbell's vegetable stock instead of water and stock concentrate.
    The sour cream really pulled it together.
    I'll make this one again.
    Thank you Paula
    One more thing, fresh bread right out of the oven would be great with this.

    The sour cream will not separate as long as you temper it first. You can use the low fat kind if you want you just have to put the liquid into the sour cream instead of putting the sour cream into the liquid. Once you temper that sour cream you can then just dump the whole thing in

    Hi Paula, I went to pour a glass of wine, I returned to the video and you were adding the sour cream ,I didn't realize thàt you had already pressure cooked the veggies and I added the sour cream before I pressure cooked the soup. Can I save this? I ask! Thankfully, the sour cream was on sale, I purchased the 500ml for the 250 ml price. I then added the excess to the pot.
    Long story short, this was the best mother f'n soup I've had for a long long time! The mish mash was killer too! TY

      Well that is so nice to hear! Yeah the SC will likely separate under the heat/pressure, but it should still taste good!

    I'm cheap except for the booze I drink while I'm cooking. (Yes, you just pulled out the wine. Haha. Kindred spirits, pardon the pun.)
    I use canned cubed potatoes, canned mixed veggies, pre-cooked bacon, liquid smoke, powdered garlic. Its all about the wine...I drink. With chowder I drink Pinot Noir with a vodka chaser. (Just kidding).
    Agree on potatoes but then my first chowder was in New England, not that they know anything about seafood.
    Whoa... wait. Tomato paste. 😢 I need more wine. Nah, Tequila!

    Love chowder. This is very similar to mine. Think you're right about the potato. I'm regularly on keto and I've tried using radish and turnip as a replacement but the texture just isn't as good. Frozen bell pepper is good in it too.

    Thanks for the tip on freezing dill. I will definitely do that this year... from my garden. The other thing I want to say is that I don't get the whole instant pot thing... I bought one to replace my pressure cooker when the pressure thingy quit working (and the manufacturer did not respond), but I only use it to cook beans. To me cooking is all about the relationship I have with the ingredients and the process, and the instant pot kind of infringes on that. Yeah, salmon and taters; what's not to like about that.

    • @HowToMakeDinner
      @HowToMakeDinner  2 роки тому +1

      I hear ya. I definitely opt for the regular old pot quite often too. I do love the IP for making yogurt and beans. When I’m really in the mood to cook, I use a regular pot and get comfy!

    • @glendahingley491
      @glendahingley491 2 роки тому

      Ed Protas - I'm with you on that. Definitely cook the beans in the IP and then use them in cooking, though I will do things like pot roast in there as well. I get much more consistent results that say, with a slow cooker
