What a nice event. I wish more local car shows were as classy as this. Where the owner’s can have a fun and informative conversation rather that being around a bunch of brooding Fast N Loud wannabes.
I've always liked these. Nice juxtaposition with the '62 Plymouth.
Two kinds of cars that you would never see parked next to each other again!
These are really elegant Pininfarina designs and still relatively affordable compared to other Ferraris. Nice to know the owner is tackling maintenance and repairs himself.
Affordable is relative. These are not cheap cars anymore. At this point there is no such thing as a cheap ferrari.
@@lawrencebmarshallNobody wants these.
What a wonderfully understated car.
I was just going to say Ferrari Mondial.. but no. It’s not that. Oh, and 15.3 inch wheels. So fun to get tires for.
- the wheels on that 400i are 390mm in diameter, part of the Michelin TRX family, a series of low profile tires introduced by them in the mid 70's. All TRX tires utilized metric sized wheel rims (instead of inches). TRX tires are still available today through specialized retailers that deal with classic/vintage vehicle tires.
Buick had to be channeling this car when they came up with the front end for the Regatta.
390mm wheels? He could sell his used tires to the early Four Eye Fox Mustang/Capri/Thunderbird/Cougar guys for their TRX wheels!! Someone actually manufactured 16" TRX replicas to mitigate the tire issue. Ford also used 365mm wheels on some Escorts and Lynxs, probably mostly on the EXP and LN7.
That blue is beautiful! And in the background, that 2nd gen Corvair two door hardtop - those are a good looking car!
Absolutely beautiful!!
I would like to see you do more on Mercedes-Benz design, particularly the cars designed by Paul Bracq and Bruno Sacco from the early 1960s through late 1990s.
A w126 is parked behind this Ferrari. Hopefully Adam did a walk around of it.
@@distilledwater2463 That's what prompted me to make the suggestion. That and the fact I've owned a 1989 560SEC for 20 years now.....and an E500 W124 for 19 years. But I know Adam is a "domestic" car guy.
@@distilledwater2463 ...wait for it.....
The midnengine cars get all the attention, but I love the front engine Ferraris. These are so cleanly styled and really just a great example of sporty exotic looks while still being a "practical" car, as much as a Ferrari can be. GT cars are awesome! The owner is also a fantastic guy, I'd love to see more of him on the channel in the future.
I've always loved these - right up my alley, a true "GT". And for a moment, they were affordable. Adam - good interjection about the 65 Chrysler :)
Your range of topics, work with venerable experts, and 'instant friend' involving of car owners - along with your own expertise and insight - make this a truly top series.
What a gorgeous Ferrari!!! 👍👍🙂
Brett's '83 400i 2+2 is stunning. This personal luxury proportioned icon is the only Ferrari that captures my attention.
I remember seeing Whitney Houston's 18k mile, Blue Serra Metallic, with Creme leather interior, '88 412 for sale several years ago.
Thanks for posting Adam.
One of my favorite Ferrari from an era of incredible Maserati, Lamboghini and Ferrari that seated 4.
Why the modern italian plates? Just get the old ones without the garbage blue eu stripes with MO in orange
One of my Favorite designs of this brand
This was Tom Cruise's car in the film Rain Man, before he inherits his late father's Buick Roadmaster. That's where I learned of the 400i's existence. Thanks Adam for sharing, this car does not get enough love.
Adam, we need to see that engine........Cm'on Man😉
390 mm is 15.3543 inches
This is a Ferrari? Wow.
I've been into cars for over 55 years but, I must admit that I've never seen this Ferrari before. Thanks for bringing it to light.
The greenhouse especially the d pillar and rear side window looks alot like my 78 Malibu classic sport coupe
good eye Joe.Yes, it does
15.375" wheel size.🤔
These are great cars, the drive very nicely.
My 2003 BMW 325xi AWD has a GM transmission
One of the car books of my youth had a few pages featuring this car. I spend countless hours just studying those pictures. It looks just about perfect to me: elegant AND muscular
I’m thinking two letters N V this car is gorgeous
Wow stunning, one of my all time favs! Also I saw a Dodge Omni GLH in the background! ("Goes Like Hell") haha
GLHS. Goes Like Hell Some more. 😄
In this episode, the Michigan Yacht Club takes a look at a smaller Italian boat. :)
I know what he means. I had to buy a new set of small tools because it's built like a Swiss watch. But the big stuff is accessible and straightforward. Fabulous handling and the v12 howls. Not particularly fast from traffic lights but at speed it really shifts and unlike other cars handles brilliantly at high speed 100 mph and way above. And you can take friends! A great car.
I have this exact car, "in gun metal grey" for sale..... 16000mi A peach.
Are Michelin TRX tires sized for the 390mm wheel still available? They haven't been used as OEM tires since the 1980s!
Interesting that the "year of manufacture" plate is actually stamped "79" but it appears Michigan kept stamping plates "79" through 1983 and just putting stickers on them... except for vanity plates which did get 80/81/82/83 stampings. 1984 was the first year for the white on blue plate style that they ran for decades.
There is an '87 Dodge Omni GLHS Turbo in the background!
Foreign cars Adam?
Ah, the smog era Ferraris. One of the doctors I knew had one, and he cursed the thing, because it would stall, and not re-start and he'd be stuck in intersections IN A FERRARI!
415 tire sizes stock for the 400i. Not 390. 390 is the early Mondial and Injected 308 tire sizes, and Fox Ford option from 79 to 84.5 . I just think the car is perfect, but wouldn't it have been better with the SwitchPitch THM400 torque converter and a taller axle ratio?
It's predecessor the best, 365 GTC/4, is even more forgotten and has amazing styling bit of a shame it was made only two years.
How could somebody not like that car, especially being blue on blue. I see Doc Brown had the next car over.
I don’t care what anyone thinks about that Ferrari. I think it’s unique and cool looking. I would like even more if it had a manual transmission.
I love this series of Ferrari. Amazing interior.
So many fabulous Ferraris to choose from, but this one is so unique and classy as a GT coupe instead of the usual sports car. I think this was the first designed for an automatic exclusively.
Just saw this gentlemen at Harbor Freight in Metro Detroit. Never knew of the 400i and glad to see he has a whole video talking about it!
I have always liked the slab side crisp designs (think Lagonda) and this Ferrari to me has always been a smart looking coupe.
wonder what the stall speed is, I bet we could get circle D to make up something with like a 2500-3000 stall on it, haul butt
I always think of the Bitter SC when I see this, backwards I know.
I would have asked about the TRX tires.
Just like a '65 Chrysler!
Rain man car before the fire bolt 8 Roadmaster
You have to show us that Delorian next door
Michigan??? No!
The wheels are gorgeous 😍
Well, meh to the 400i. Just doesn’t get the blood flowing.
Regarding local car shows mentioned by another commenter…I agree, I found car shows in the metro Detroit area to be more interactive and enjoyable than here in DFW. The 100 degree July-Augusts affect that, and most cars here are your typical often seen hit rids. On the upside, we never really have to put our cars away fir winter.
Wondered what meh was as I've never heard anyone say meh especially in Texas. But I guess Dallas really isn't Texas.
Too bad it's not hardtop.
Love this Ferrari.
Enzo drove one.
I like this car....the color looks great on it....I also like the Ferrari Mondial...something different than the standard 308 and derivatives...and as stated elsewhere...meeting the enthusiast owner who loves to share his ownership experience.
I agree
Gorgeous Ferrari, and I hate Wedgwood Blue! Fun owner too, thanks guys for the show and the comments.
Great stuff as always, guys! That blue on blue Ferrari is stunning. Always enjoy these videos.
There was a local mail carrier in my neighborhood back in the 90s that used one of these, imported via gray market from the UK. It was back when carriers used their own vehicles to deliver the mail and it was ideal since it was right-side drive…automatic, of course, since manual tranny cars weren’t allowed!
Thank you for featuring this Ferrari 400i, which is the Ferrari that appeals to me the most.
This is one high fallutin' car show next to the country club.
Always loved these cars.
A relative had one of these when I was a kid, only with the vastly superior manual. Good memories for sure
Whos opinion is it that the manual is vastly superior?
2nd view again! Darn!
Don't be that guy. It's not cool. At all.
Ma Ferrari a besoin de nouvelles pneus!
You need French lessons.....Ma Ferrari a besoin de nouveaux pneux.
@@1983dmd corrections accepted. I was pretty close considering 1 school french education year 45 years ago
Ford a aussi utilisé TRX 390mm... Junque
I remember well when this thing came out; somehow Ferrari never mastered the art of making pretty 2 + 2's. I saw my first one on the road and thought it was some kind of GM with a joker hanging badges on it.
I wanna see Regular Car Reviews use some of Adam’s collection for videos.
