    That transmission is US made too. It's a GM turbo 400. Was common here. Over here we would put a simple shift kit in it to give it smarter shifts. About $70. It will chirp the tires at the 1-2 shift easily, if you want it to. It can be set up in three different modes.

    Sadly from 2030 on all combustion cars including classics will be banned from public streets in EU :-( In Germany the Green party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by reducing petrol stations to only one station per city. :-(

    • @CarrotTownGarage
      @CarrotTownGarage  3 роки тому +3

      Yeah that will never happen. For several reasons
      It is impossible to build the infrastructure to charge solely electric cars in just 9 years.
      The majority of cars Van's and lorries on the roads use petrol or diesel and it will be impossible for everyone to own a new electric car as they are too expensive and scrapping the cars on the roads will be an environmental disaster.
      Oil is sold in barrels with a value in dollars and there is too much money in fossil fuels to suddenly stop using them.

    What an amazing car. It's a pity that Ferrari do not re-visit that style. I am sure there are many Ferrari owners that have families who miss out on a nice drive. Nice to know it is used and not sitting in some garage all the time.

    I had the pleasure of borrowing my friend's 400 to drive from London to a friends wedding in Warwick in 2002. Great weather and lots of admiring comments on the car. Unfortunatly my friend sold the car 300JMG.

    Beautiful machine, very well maintained. As a finishing touch at the back, turn the logo of the prancing horse a couple of degrees to the right so it is in the correct position 😉

    Nice car but overrated. Get out of this and climb into an xjs.

    • @CarrotTownGarage
      @CarrotTownGarage  5 років тому +1

      Both really similar to drive. XJ-S better value and spares are easily available so I have to agree with you.

      I own a black 89 V12 XJS and a black 78 400. The XJS is a fabulous car, and I probably prefer its styling, but when I want to really arrive in style I take the 400.

    The Ferrari 400 followed on from the 365s - very underrated but great cars. I used to work at a now de-funked Ferrari garage in Surrey, UK and these were often seen in our workshop, along with 308s, Daytonas, Boxers etc. The manual version of the 400 is a rare one and in my opinion better to drive than the auto...

  • @morganzimmerman6800
    @morganzimmerman6800 4 роки тому +2

    Do you know how many were “imported” to the us? I know it was grey market so technically none but I’m guessing only 70 cars got here. Maybe that’s the figure for the 365 gt4 2+2. Let me know if you have any information on that.

    • @CarrotTownGarage
      @CarrotTownGarage  4 роки тому +1

      I'm not sure how many went stateside. They were Ferrai's best selling car as were produced from 74 to 89. The hardest problem is getting parts for them. Great car to drive, very smooth like,an XJ-S Jaguar.

    • @morganzimmerman6800

      Carrot Town Garage I bet. One last question, I may have already asked but what is the general consensus among the Ferrari owners club of the mondial and the Dino 308 gt4? Are they worth buying at all? Seems to be a lot of hate towards those 2 cars in the us. To me it seems unfounded, but I’m no expert.

    • @CarrotTownGarage
      @CarrotTownGarage  4 роки тому +1

      If you are looking to own one of these find yourself a nice Ferrari Mondial T they are great to drive and to own. Parts are not too expensive and are readily available. People will always judge except anyone in the club as it's still a Ferrari and it's very rare. Not like 360s or 458s which sold in thousands. Better still buy a C6 corvette!

    • @CarrotTownGarage

      It's actually really subtle but was a lovely car to drive. Really smooth. Oddly the best selling car in Ferrari history 😂🙈

  • @chesswizard31

    Have often been interested in these, and am a big fan of vintage GTs. I own an early Porsche 928. Would you consider the car brisk to drive or at all sporty like the 928? I've heard they are in fact very slow, even the earlier carbed versions with 340 or so bhp, due to the immense weight of the car. Would you say this is true?

    • @CarrotTownGarage
      @CarrotTownGarage  3 роки тому +2

      It's like a Jag V12 very smooth. It's a GT so is designed for long distance cruising. Plus you must remember it's the best selling Ferrari of all time. Nothing from this era is particularly quick even your 928 would struggle to keep up with most modern diesel cars off the line.

    • @chesswizard31
      @chesswizard31 3 роки тому +2

      @@CarrotTownGarage Do you still own the car? What has ownership experience and maintenance expectations been like?

    • @CarrotTownGarage
      @CarrotTownGarage  3 роки тому +2

      Total nightmare to own as you can't get parts. I broke a brake caliper and it took 3 months to find one and that was second hand. I fitted it and sold the car.
      To give you an idea the front indicator (turn signal) lens was cracked slightly. I found a good used one in the states for $1200! Meanwhile parts for a 308 are peanuts and plentiful even though the 400 was the best selling Ferrari of all time.

    • @BRAINFxck10
      @BRAINFxck10 2 роки тому +2

      @@CarrotTownGarage he didn't say his 928 was quick, he said it felt sporty, those early 928's were lighter with perfect weight distribution for a GT, and these Ferrari's may not be quick off the line but once they get moving there is enough power to drive at a "brisk" pace, the self level suspension grips well but the overall ride is still soft & floaty, sorry I just had to clearify that

    Now drive it

    • @CarrotTownGarage
      @CarrotTownGarage  4 роки тому +1

      Unfortunately it's the handbooks 🤣 it's not like a modern Ferrari it's a slow cruiser, drives like a Jag XJ-S to be honest except with repair bills like a Bugatti Veyron!

    How were you able change the speedo from kmh to mph? Is there any king of rules and regulations you have to go through? .. I'm curious how that's done

    • @CarrotTownGarage
      @CarrotTownGarage  5 років тому +1

      The speedo was faulty so was changed but was in mph anyway. You should be able to fit a mph speedo in place of kmh no problem.

      I love cars that to the general public don't seem so flashy yet the enthusiast knows that they're something special. That engine alone makes it an impressive car !
      This looks more like the inspiration for the SD1 than the 365 Daytona !
      I'll probably have to settle for an SD1 or maybe even a Bitter SC.

      Hugh-John Fleming it cost Andrew Ridgley of Wham £11k back in 98 to retrim it. It actually looked better in the flesh than on the video. The killer was the cream dash reflected into the screen so you couldn't see where you were going 😂

    You need to edit your write-up. Wham is apparently written as WHAM! Seriously though, thanks for showing your car.
