How to Rig for Galveston Party Boats Gulf of Mexico Vermillion Snapper Fishing with Captain Matt

I asked Captain Matt from the New Buccaneer for helpful tips to help his customers catch more fish. He uses this bottom rig to help catch vermillion snapper. He explained the boat rigs then modifications that he makes to put more fish in the boat! It is really easy to catch double limits (20 fish) of snapper on the 30 hr tuna trips!

Yes it does, especially if you are fishing rigs and there are mangrove snapper around. I normally keep it higher in the water column.

Will forty pound mono mainland work for red snapper

I would go a little heavier, I prefer 65lb. You never know what you will get, could be a red, AJ, or grouper. You could also get tangled or rub the hull…. 40 lb should work but I like the extra few pounds. Some guys go even heavier…

I've been on several of the 12 hour trips out of Galveston - on both the head boats that operate from dock #18. The trips go about 60-65 miles offshore, and take 3.5 to 4 hours to reach the first fishing spot. I've seen water only 70-80 feet, and sometimes double that, but the areas they go aren't super deep.
