NO MORE SNAGS w/ these Fishing Rigs! (Fishing Moving Water + Rocky Bottoms)

  • Here are 3 simple fishing methods to help you avoid snags while fishing moving water. The tandem rig, the float rig, and doodlesocking are easy bait fishing rigs I use to target perch, carp, and even bigger fish! I don’t need to worry about getting snagged on rocky bottoms either. Using these simple and effective fishing methods, I’m able to catch fish after fish after fish! What methods do you like to use in this kind of water? Comment below!
This week, we are fishing the Potomac in Maryland. We are hoping to stock up on perch to eat for dinner as they are some of my favorite fish to eat. The rocks here made it an interesting trek just to get to our fishing spot, but it was so worth it. I was catching so many fish the birds even tried to steal my spot to get in on the action! Which of these 3 fishing methods do you want to try out first?
    0:00 - Intro
    1:22 - Method 1: Tandem Rig
    7:21 - Method 2: Float Rig
    12:14 - Method 3: Doodlesocking
    16:50 - Conclusion
*When you are going fishing during this pandemic, please make sure you follow state laws and social distancing guidelines. This does not mean “We can meet up to go fishing as long as we stay 6 feet away from each other.” Social distancing means that you should not be in the same vicinity as people who do not live in your household unless absolutely necessary (like when buying groceries). Limit your contact with others as much as possible. Go to remote fishing spots where there are no other people fishing. If you want to go fishing with a friend, we recommend that you each go to your own fishing spots and video call each other. Let’s all help keep each other safe during this uncertain time*

Thank You! I will apply this knowledge to Sebastian Inlet, FL
I've personally seen MONSTER (48"+) Redfish caught there with live finger mullet. I've also seen and experienced a TON of snags on the rocks while chasing those trophies. Once again thank you for sharing your knowledge. Most people horde fishing knowledge like an old family recipe. You are truly a Legend in the making!

I like your ethics on releasing the big breeders. The noodlesocking was very interesting .It reminded me of my childhood days on my uncles farms where we cut our own bamboo poles, tied on some line, hook, bobber, and small weight. Fished many a farm pond catching bullhead, catfish and such as well as some lagoons! My how technology changed my old favorite!

30 years ago, there were million of herring, American shad, perch...etc.
So much fish, school of herring look like a dark clound in the water, I still remember like yesterday.
Now is very little , almost nothing compare to 30 years ago.

water quality is so much worse than it was. find a lake with zero boat access or houses. with a several mile hike to get to it required. you'd be amazed what you'll find

Love grass carp. Good eating, good catfish and stripper bait, and the waste makes awesome fish emulation fertilizer. On the Colorado River, I use the hi low rig, bait and hook set up Texas rig style, with a pretty heavy, long drag weight on the end.

Yeah, I fish rocky fast water. That's when I have the most fun. Give me a stream that's chocolate milk, and I'll be fighting through the smallmouth to get to the brown trout. If I have to I use split shot at least 6" and up to 12" above the hook. Less likely to snag. Also, technique is important. I can't cast upstream like usual. Sideways and let it go downstream. If snags, I just tighten any slack and move further upstream to free the rig. Try and keep line as vertical as possible.

We have the same version in the Philippines (doodlesocking) but we use bamboo poles we call it (bolo) the thinner versions of bamboo. It is around the same length with the ones he is using but the line is longer, almost the same length as the pole. We use discarded rubber slippers as floaters, we cut it rectangular (about the size of anchovy) and hook at the end of the line. We use for for catching cichlids (tilapias) or ladyfish. It's a pretty good setup!

Hey buddy love your channel...free tip from a doodlesocking guru over here 😆.that skinny end is prone to snapping. If you spiral wrap dacron from the thicker part up to the end through the eyelet, then loop to loop attach mono, uou won't lose your fish if the pole snaps...just a thought....I learn a lot from your videos...thanks for doin what you do dude.

I live on a fairly large river, and usually use a Texas rig with a small hook and powerbait trout worms. Jigging and reeling as I go downstream, I usually get strikes immediately after the jig on the reel and the next jig I perform sets the hook. Easiest and cheapest method for rocky bottom fishing. Or I opt for a float/fly setup. Anything with treble hooks you might as well just throw it in the river unless you know a nice path to swim it through. Ultimately I suggest the Texas rig and feel the bottom. You might lose a few hooks and worms, but you will know where all of the snag areas are then throw out your more expensive spinner or rapala and take the path of least resistance.

One of the methods I like to use is to just use a much lighter jig and if fishkng really turbulent water is to scout the area and looks t the bottom and stand on a large rock that is in line with current and like for example just a curly tail grub or any lure eith action caused by water movement and just siet ther and John it a few times and wait for the magic to happen
