Kind of different when his character claims to be the goat and the real Jericho doesn't. He's a heel. Of course he should day He's the greatest. It's what heels do.
I feel like Jericho's recent work and his political opinions have skewed peoples opinions on him and almost created a revisionist timeline where we disregard how good he has been for over 20 years. He was an internet darling in the early days of his career known for his in ring stuff, become a huge star during the Attitude Era with one of the most stacked rosters in history. Was probably the Number 3 babyface in 2000 behind Rock and Taker and number 4 overall behind the former 2 plus Austin when he returned. Then you see the iconic HBK feuds in 2003 and 2008. Whatever you think of him now being washed up or an egomaniac, whatever, it is valid. But you can't rewrite history. Cornette used to kiss his ass and love him until he found out about his Trump affiliations and now he and many others bury him for that and pretend they didnt love him for the previous 20 years before that. Almost like the opposite of HHH. He was maligned for 20 years for burying talent and being an egomaniac now hes the saviour.
Ooooh boy it started off as mild defence for Jericho and just diverged into "waaaah Cornette!" Do people remember the Iron Shiek for his good work, or his later work as well as crazy shoot promos? Nuff said. Jericho can't coast on the good stuff he did up until maybe his second year in AEW. Everything since then has been dreadful as is he as a person imo. You can let him rest on his laurels his whole career and a be a hypocrite but I'm not doing it. He isn't struggling for money so I wish he'd do himself and the viewer a favour: get his HOF induction and f*ck off. Also I dislike him for being that internet darling. Like how he threw his toys out the pram back in 2002 because the fans on some nothing message board don't rate his match highly enough. Good to know the Metzler mindset has been kicking around longer than we would think.
You would think that your co-host would actually do research before throwing things up on a screen. The goat tee shirt that has the animal with Chris' head was a shirt concept that Jericho came up with to raise profits for a fundraiser for juvenile diabetes which two of his children have. You can see the exact shirt that someone is selling on eBay and even state that the shirt for sale was a fundraiser shirt with an article link in the description.
In early-mid 2012 he was a heel, you guys are wrestlers, you should know he wore those shirts and call himself best in the world as a HEEL. If he did it as a face id get your point. In not a fan of his aew run, but i will defend his wwe career, he's better on the mic than hbk ever was. Hes great in the ring and can play face or heel. You guys sound like haters and im a fan of your channel. I dont get all the hate for him, hes had better moments than majority of the so called legends.
News flash: anyone and everyone who gets a title is because it was handed to them by someone who supported them , whether they had the bosses favour or his right hand man, or they were married to the bosses daughter or they were themselves the booker, it's a work guys
The comment Vince made was in jest. Listening to Jericho, he said Vince said that in close proximity for Jericho to hear. This was before Jericho knew he was winning the title.
Without disputing any of that, if I had to choose between having somebody on the roster like Triple H during the Reign Of Terror who never, ever did any jobs...and having somebody on the roster like Jericho, who regardless of whether he inserts himself into programs is generally willing to do jobs (to Adam Cole, to MJF three times before getting a single win back, to Omega in New Japan, to Mox, to Claudio, and the list goes on)...then I'd rather have the guy who'll do jobs. Ideally I wouldn't have *anybody* with an oversized ego around, but he could definitely be worse.
Wrestling is an ego driven business you don’t have one it’s rare that you’ll succeed. Jericho playing politics isn’t rare all your favorite stars have done the same. Maybe guys like Rene and the others featured on this podcast should’ve taken notes.
Big fan of the podcast but every wrestling fan I know considers Jericho one of the greatest of all time, up there with Bret, Shawn, etc so it's odd to hear James say nobody thinks that
Jericho was a good wrestler for a long time but I noticed that when the pace of a match is faster he shows that his leg movements in the ring look kind of awkward almost like dancing in place doing an Irish jig or something.
Jericho`s rein as the first Undisputed champ in WWE was a very ill fit. As a fan, you knew he was just keeping it warm for Triple H to take away from him,...in the most underwhelming WM main event ever
As far as longevity and reinventing yourself can constantly being on top. Pushing borders Chris Jericho's top five of all time and easily is arguable as one of the goats.
Café de René… Can you guys explain why they keep showing a slim Jericho in an orange shirt whenever they do a story about Sunny’s recent legal issues in court??
There are too many loopholes in this logic. 1. Jericho wasn't a mid-carder 2. That "Vince" didn't see Jericho as a top guy because of his size doesn't diminish his greatness as a wrestler in terms of promo, wrestling, entertainment, hard work, and creativity 3. Did James say that Triple H wouldn't be cheered over Rock/Austin while Jericho would be? And that and Pat is the only reason Jericho got the belt? So, Jericho is the champ because he is liked by fans and one of the greatest business minds and that is a bad thing? Hey, I am not a big fan of current Jericho and he has an inflated ego, but that doesn't mean he isn't good. Two separate topics, bub.
Austin was offered the chance to headline Mania X8. Meaning he would go over on Jericho at No Way Out. Austin did not want to put over Triple H and pass the torch on the grandest stage. That's why they had the segment on RAW when they faced off but it went nowhere. Austin wanted to remain the top guy.
the scariest part about austin wanted to still be the top guy, is the fanguys thinking he was right to think that way, and not pass it on, but, I sure hope austin was ready to pass it on to someone new, otherwise, he is questionable in my eyes
@@theonlygoodonehere2259 yeah, he claims he would have done the job to Lesnar in the right setting but who knows. Austin was not in a good place because he knew his time on top was up and McMahon was already treating him like yesterday's news. No one wants to step out the spotlight - Bret, Shawn before him and then Angle after had similar situations and took it badly because Vince was like a father to the top guys so they then felt rejected, bitter and lost.
@@ZakynthosDiamandis at least shawn accepted it and did jobs for many guys, I remember when I first watched in 2009, at around early 2010, shawn michaels was losing every match until his eventual retirement match against undertaker, I remember he even let the miz pin him 2 weeks in a row, even kurt angle would do stuff like that, its ok to have a hard time accepting it, but it is how you grow and mature into accepting it, and eventually being ok with it, because they will always love and respect those guys, but bret and stone cold IMO, never wanted to do the job, I feel like stone cold would never agree to put over brock even in PPV in a 1 off, he would prob ask for his win back somehow, if not, he refuses
@@theonlygoodonehere2259 you misunderstood. You're talking about Michaels' second run, 4 years after he was the top guy. Initially Michaels didn't want to accept it, famously "didnt lay down for anybody" and was even rumoured to not want to job to Austin at WM14 (hence the Undertaker taping his fist backstage story). Angle left the WWE because he was relegated to the third tier brand and didn't want to go to rehab. One way or another, they all fell on hard times when they couldn't face not being McMahon's top guy anymore - that was my point. Bret put over Booker T clean in WCW and Angle helped to elevate the likes of AJ Styles and Samoa Joe in TNA. Austin was forced to retire but put over The Rock in his final match. So they were all willing to do the honours eventually.
@@ZakynthosDiamandis bret hart beating booker t, I might give you, but prior he has beaten him twice, when I mentioned shawn michaels being ok with putting other guys over, I mean when he matured in his 2nd year, which means he changed, you can't use first run, because he gave in, and started jobbing more than bret and austin, angle understood too, he let cena win a bnch against him, even guys like mysterio and guerrero, he may have losing records against them, now with stone cold putting over the rock, FINALLY, its because he beat the rock numerous times already, when I mention shawn michaels and kurt angles losses, notice I mention their head to head win loss record in feuds, they let guys have winning records against them, while bret and stone cold lets someone go over when beating them many times already, thats why I said austin wouldn't agree to lose to lesnar 1 off, where a young rookie guy has a winning record against him, he would ask for it back somehow

Jericho is like the washed up Rock Star that's still touring but he was great, in his day. The program he had with Shawn Michaels, when he accidentally snuffed Shawn's wife was very good.
The shirt and the trunks are kinda heel moves. You're supposed to hate him for being so full of himself. Don't get me wrong, he's an egomaniac who believes his own hype. Just saying.
This is what a bias looks like. Jericho is an upper card guy. He sits down with writers because he has ideas to bring to the table, he's taking the initiative. He sells GOAT merchandise and wears GOAT tights to the ring because his character is suppose to be cocky. The interview he was doing was a shoot and real life. You're confusing his gimmick with who he is. Jericho isnt a superstar household name like rock, hogan, cena and austin, but theres no doubt hes right underneath them.
@cafederene So let me try to understand this. If your name isn't Hogan, Cena, Rock, or Austin you're an upper mid carder at best? Those guys are upper card but they're also the elites of the elites. Someone like Randy Orton is an upper card guy but he isn't a household name. Sting was an upper card guy but he isn't a household name. Kevin Nash was an upper card guy but he isn't a household name. Triple H isn't a household name but is an upper card wrestler. Chris Jericho is no doubt upper card. I understand you hate this guy for whatever reason. That's fine that's your opinion. But all bias aside, he's upper. You can't look at Jerichos career and put him in the mid card category. It's just impossible.
Eddie guerrero stamped Jericho's work as early as Mexico 😂 Rene really did this shit so his opinion is forever valid but yall in the comments please relax 🙌

Jericho is like a more generous version of HHH. He never was the top guy, but he could be right there as a fill in as a temporary top guy. He's talented all around. Dislike him if you want, but to call him a midcarder is silly. The guy is good.
I first started noticing Jericho's ego when i would be listening to guests on his podcast. It would go from a guest telling their story to him telling a story about himself that was similar to the guests experience. He didn't seem to feel the need to one up the guests just the need to focus the attention on himself.
While I'm not at all a fan of AEW Jericho, and it's getting a bit sad to see to where he's now at and he doesn't help himself, WWE Jericho was pretty epic. That late 00's heel run was an all timer. And he was over as fuck in the initial baby face run.
Thanku 👍 u took the words out of my mouth!! I have said for yrs that he is an Upper Mid Card guy that you can put in ME. But he has never been on same level with Hogan, Austin, Rock. Great worker, great on mic but there is something off with his look character, probably because he is more less a chicken shit heel at his best??
Not sure if he’s the goat but Jericho has had a long and mostly injury free career. How many serious injuries has he had necessitating time off? Even Undertaker gave him props for that. I’ve always been a Jericho fan but as he got older and branched out from wrestling into music and tv and whatnot, it just seemed like he became a huge ass kisser, buddies with all these rock stars and celebrities, and making sure everyone knew who he was friends with. I think he should’ve retired in 2017 when he left WWE, maybe faded off into the sunset a bit and kept doing his podcast, maybe the odd tv show if the opportunity presented itself, kind of like Stone Cold. But he’s just hanging around, getting older, tarnishing his legacy. He’s like David Lee Roth, in that Roth still thinks it’s 1984 and Jericho thinks it’s 2001-02
When Jericho was in WWE everyone said he was giving and unselfish for putting guys over I don’t know we’re this narrative came from in AEW that Jericho is selfish.. He stood up for Wade Barrett and Nexus backstage when John Cena was playing his Hulk hogan politic games..
Jericho has become what he once hated. Who do you think politicked to Cokie the Khan to turn top heel MJF face, ruining him, thus also pushing Jericho back up to top heel by having MJF removed from it booking wise??
When the host of the show can't tell apart a character from a real-life persona, that instantly invalidates anything he had said and would say right after.
Jericho is for me the real life definition of 2 Face......he gives a lot of money to charity, hes paid the most into many former wrestlers go fund me's. He always wants to work with younger talent (again good or bad?).....BUT he has an Ego the size of Milky Way, he loves himself, and when people say Bret Hart took himself too seriously, well, fuck, Jericho is like Hart on roids.....hes clearly done a lot of seedy shit and continues to have issues with people (especially in hotels), add to that his recent Political allegiances and his stance during Covid........for me its all about him, it always will be, and it even makes his altrusitic generosity look like its done for Ego and not good will.
I always loved Jericho and his work . But these last few years I've seen a different side of him that rubs me the wrong way . But I guess people who worked around him always got that vibe perhaps .
Perhaps the Smoochy Dreamers had it right all those years ago, and Jericho & Stephanie are actually ideal for one another. Both have egos the size of the sun, and can't take responsibility or accountability for wrongdoing.
When Jericho first came in to WWE i didnt know him from WCW (didnt watch it) i cant lie i was a fan i thought he was great but once he had that break and came back with short hair and looking a bit flabby he was never the same, For me anyway he just didnt have that same aura around him. When he punched that woman i lost a lot of respect for him i hate famous people that treat their fans as below them they are only in the position they're in because of those same people but they forget that real quick
Right. Rock only got a push because Patterson liked him....not because he had an ounce of talent. Suuuure. Duane has more talent in his toe nail than 100 forgotten, no impact made, Rene Duprees
All the G.O.A.T. talk been overplayed now in everything. Either we're living in the best time where we get to see the absolute best, or everyone just blowing smoke up each other's asses.
Although I do think Jericho probably thinks pretty highly of himself I don't think he's got a huge ego. He still seems pretty down to earth. And you can't really contribute the G.O.A.T. gimmick to him having a huge ego. That's just a gimmick he used to keep his career and push going. Nothing wrong with that. That's just him utilizing a new moniker to keep his career fresh. Do I personally like Jericho as a wrestler? No, not really. I was never that fond of him as a wrestler. I didn't dislike him, but I was never that big of a fan of his, nor do I think he belongs in at least the top 25 of all time.
I pitty Chris Jericho because he never was able to amount to anything past a midcarder. I remember a raw segment where stonecold was on and it was all a hype up for a chris vs christian match and just like me the audience went dead. That is how it feels when hes on tv in any era.
I do wonder if reputation for being political and a mark for himself was common knowledge. He was very passionate apprently in tslking down Cena from his finish with Barrett. I wonder did Cena plow on regardless because he had that in his mind with Jericho. Didnt trust the advice and had to learn the lesson first hand. Sadly fueling Jerichos ego in the process. I bet had that been any vet not in the match they he may of acted different.
That is an interesting point but I even think Edge was trying to talk Cena down from that. But sadly that was a moment where you have to learn the hard way. I can't remember did Nexus happen before or after Shamus first title run.
My best friend and I had a chance to meet Jericho in Vegas in 2020, AEW had just wrapped up filming their casino segment at the Cromwell and we were walking right behind him as he went up to his hotel room. I was too chickenshit to say anything to him as I thought he would have been rude or just ignored us, I'll never know and I'm still regretting being too afraid to say anything to him.

Ooooh boy it started off as mild defence for Jericho and just diverged into "waaaah Cornette!"
Do people remember the Iron Shiek for his good work, or his later work as well as crazy shoot promos?
Rene so accurate in here. Jericho latches on to whatever is hot. Hook now, Ricky Starks, Eddie Kingston and a huge list of names.
Bingo
Kind of how the business works in a way though
@@richardredeemed Exactly lol, like how is this even a take. That's what your supposed to do to stay relevant.
Leech-on-heart Chris Jericho
Jericho hasnt elevated one talent in AEW.
Hes not good for a few years now.
The comment Vince made was in jest. Listening to Jericho, he said Vince said that in close proximity for Jericho to hear. This was before Jericho knew he was winning the title.
The revisionist history on Jericho is crazy. Everyone acting like no one liked him and never drew a dime all of a sudden lol
He drew more than ever at the beginning of AEW, more than he did on WWE. Now he draws people away. Look it up.
Crazy what a retracted allegation in the form of a shitty tweet can do!
He didn't draw for the WWF, he was always paired with a draw.
@@MikeD8318 insane take lmao
If wasn’t in AEW he would be praised right now.
One thing you cannot take away from Chris is he has never been Injured he was and is durable consistent
That's only down to luck and politicking, though. Hardly admirable qualities, or much you can control.
12 year old me loved Jericho, 35 year old me finds him so cringey 😂

Wrestling is an ego driven business you don’t have one it’s rare that you’ll succeed. Jericho playing politics isn’t rare all your favorite stars have done the same. Maybe guys like Rene and the others featured on this podcast should’ve taken notes.
Big fan of the podcast but every wrestling fan I know considers Jericho one of the greatest of all time, up there with Bret, Shawn, etc so it's odd to hear James say nobody thinks that
Jericho: I don't think I'm the goat, but I'm not gonna say I'm not either (Very humble man Mr. Y2NDA is)
A good thing I’ve heard about Jericho ,is that he’s very generous to wrestlers families when they pass away.
Watching Cafe De Rene, while working myself into a shoot.
Watching Cafe De Rene, while working at JD Sports.
A wrestler speaking in hyperbole!!??? While I never. Now I don’t know what to believe! I bet the Undertaker isn’t even really undead

Jericho has one of the biggest egos in wrestling
And we love it 🤣
Because he's one of the best.
He's also paid for more for funerals, second chances and surgeries than any wrestling podcast hosts you listen to.

Can you guys explain why they keep showing a slim Jericho in an orange shirt whenever they do a story about Sunny’s recent legal issues in court??
Having met Jericho in 2005 . I can confirm he is full of himself! He really is!
There are too many loopholes in this logic.
1. Jericho wasn't a mid-carder
2. That "Vince" didn't see Jericho as a top guy because of his size doesn't diminish his greatness as a wrestler in terms of promo, wrestling, entertainment, hard work, and creativity
3. Did James say that Triple H wouldn't be cheered over Rock/Austin while Jericho would be? And that and Pat is the only reason Jericho got the belt? So, Jericho is the champ because he is liked by fans and one of the greatest business minds and that is a bad thing?
Hey,
I am not a big fan of current Jericho and he has an inflated ego, but that doesn't mean he isn't good. Two separate topics, bub.
All wrestling stars have ego, also Rene is so bitter and always has something negative about someone
I heard about a cruise,
Where Jericho was Drunk and MVP Put hands on him for it.
Well yeah... that's what heels do... they make themselves bigger deals than what they are. Jericho wasn't demanding they give him the nickname "best in the world."
Watching cafe de Rene from gym. Love this show
Jericho was getting better reactions than the rock with promos during the attitude era. Maybe he did politic too hard, but he was red hot vs triple h and didnt go over which was a mistake. His reaction was massive when he won the belt on raw only to have the decision reversed.
😂😂 Absolute horse shit. Y2j is an upper midcarder at best. Dude couldn’t lace up Rock’s shoes. Rock was bigger than him then and hes WAAAY bigger than him now. No one outside of wrestling nerds even know of Jericho while Rock is a Household name.
I love how Rene is such a straight forward no bullshit type of person. He just tells it how it is and he does not sugarcoat anything.
What is the red mic that Renee is using? I think it's a very popular one.
So many guys came and went while Jericho kept going. He’s not the goat but he’s had a good run. I can’t speak on him as a person but he was really entertaining in WCW and his ‘99 and ‘00 run in WWF
I liked Jericho back when he was " Lion Heart Chris Jericho" in ECW, before he became " Y2J" in WWF/WWE.
I don't think the elite could've swayed Tony to start a company without Cody.
Regardless of whatever, can’t take away from Jericho’s debut on Raw that is still talked about and his amazing theme song Break the walls down! N that 2008 feud with HBK when he was a dickhead in a suit was amazing.
Attaching himself to the hit acts, that was a huge criticism of Dusty. Magnum TA,Nikita Koloff, Rock and Roll,Road Warriors any over baby face Dusty teamed with them
To be fair, the GOAT stuff was the storyline. And he's always described himself as George Harrison when comparing himself to Rock and Austin (Lennon and McCartney). I'd put HHH in that spot though, imo.
But you can definitely see it feeding his ego when people say it often enough. Kurt Angle said it not long ago, also; and that's high praise
Looks like you got some upgrades. Awesome :D
Jericho was the one who injured triple h in 2001 in storyline that’s why he fought triple h at wrestlemania 18 & because he earned that spot.
There's no way Jericho is bigger than Hulk Hogan, Randy Savage, Stone Cold, Ric Flair, Bret Hart, The Undertaker, or The Rock.
He’s in none of those guy’s league.
You know who is bigger than Jericho?
One of my favorites...Alex Wright.
Always made me laugh to watch him dance.

With all these wrestling podcasts it would be nice if someone created video essays incorporating news reports, economics, and the perspectives/voices of wrestlers to create a well rounded view of events that will occurred in the past.
Jericho is like the washed up Rock Star that's still touring but he was great, in his day. The program he had with Shawn Michaels, when he accidentally snuffed Shawn's wife was very good.
Jericho 2008-2010 was fantastic. The slow talking heel in a suit was top notch. Since then? Not so much.
I enjoyed his team with Kevin Steen, mostly because you could tell they were having fun with it.
The shirt and the trunks are kinda heel moves. You're supposed to hate him for being so full of himself. Don't get me wrong, he's an egomaniac who believes his own hype. Just saying.
It was also a GOAT move to bring back Big Show who can barely walk with an oblique leg.
When people drink, the truth from the individuals really comes out. Keep on rocking Rene!!
Jericho is still entertaining, so why retire.
Renee Dupree is who again? Sounds a little jealous that he can't still be on TV to me.
So you agree with me he's an upper midcarder?

Jericho is like a more generous version of HHH. He never was the top guy, but he could be right there as a fill in as a temporary top guy.
He's talented all around. Dislike him if you want, but to call him a midcarder is silly. The guy is good.
I knew Y2J was an egomaniac when said he can sing better than most rock stars 😂
Watching Cafe de Rene while I'm getting open heart surgery.
I first started noticing Jericho's ego when i would be listening to guests on his podcast. It would go from a guest telling their story to him telling a story about himself that was similar to the guests experience. He didn't seem to feel the need to one up the guests just the need to focus the attention on himself.
Watching Cafe de Rene while applying salicylic acid to burn off my plantar wart.

While I'm not at all a fan of AEW Jericho, and it's getting a bit sad to see to where he's now at and he doesn't help himself, WWE Jericho was pretty epic. That late 00's heel run was an all timer. And he was over as fuck in the initial baby face run.
Actually that picture taking place in 2016
Thanku 👍 u took the words out of my mouth!!
It didn't work
Jericho has become what he once hated. Who do you think politicked to Cokie the Khan to turn top heel MJF face, ruining him, thus also pushing Jericho back up to top heel by having MJF removed from it booking wise??
6:35 it was Eric Bischoff, Bischoff said that Chris was with Brian Gerwitz, "in the corner...... changing shit..." 😂😂
When the host of the show can't tell apart a character from a real-life persona, that instantly invalidates anything he had said and would say right after.
This explains why Jericho is friends with other wrestlers with huge egos. 😂
James is right, Jericho is a great mid carder that can work a main event here and there
He’s been in the most main events paperviews ever in the top 10 how is that a mid carder?

Jericho is for me the real life definition of 2 Face......he gives a lot of money to charity, hes paid the most into many former wrestlers go fund me's. To put Jericho over as the first undisputed champion was one of the most stupidest decisions ever made
I always loved Jericho and his work .
You think Chris and pat got down ?
The GOAT stuff was all kayfabe when he was heel
All the G.O.A.T. talk been overplayed now in everything.
Either we're living in the best time where we get to see the absolute best, or everyone just blowing smoke up each other's asses.
I always say that match should have gone on before Hogan/Rock. And that match should have been a triple threat with Angel/Triple H/Jericho.
Jericho definitely looks like an old goat.
