My original iPad Pro had the laminated screen peeling off from the chassis after 10 months of use, the display turned blue. I got a 1 for 1 replacement which turned out to be a refurb. I was so satisfied with this policy I asked the manager for more insight and this is what I found. Refurb is a mixture of devices traded in and rejected units by the customer due to any minor defect that may have been spotted upon opening at point of purchase. Both units will head back to a different assembly line, purportedly in South East Asia for a "touch up". They relaminate screens, buff off chassis irregularities, change batteries, change keyboard keys/buttons, clean etc. These units are then used as "replacement" units for Apple's device swap warranty. Instead of repairing "i" devices like iPad/iPhone/Airpods, they just give you the refurb unit to fulfill their warranty guarantee. Mac is different, they will open up and repair. So in essence, refurb items go through a second round of quality control checks because not everything that comes off the original assembly line is spotless. You end up getting IMO a higher quality product. This discovery made me appreciate Apple's business practices even more which really serves the customer. I was confident enough to get a refurb M1 MBA. Came with brand new cable, adapter and new battery(0 cycles). Can't complain 😊

140w power adapter is for 16" macbook pro with apple silicon m1 pro and m1 max. it carries over for 16" macbooks with m2 pro and m2 max as well. because the pro and max versions use more energy at full load, the power supply needs to support charging at higher wattages to make sure the battery doesn't decrease while it is working.

Thank you, this was an excellent video. Have been using Apple Computers since 1996, and always check their discount web sites (for education, for military members, and for veterans like myself) and their Certified Refurbished web site before buying an item. Also, you asked about Apple Care (3-year plan only) and yes, I have placed this on several of my Apple devices. Prior to 2010, I would never buy Apple Care because for computers (desktops and laptops) they either stop working properly within the first year of ownership (when they are always cover by the standard Apple warranty) or they would break around the fifth year of ownership (past the 3-year Apple Care period). However, now things are completely different iPads, iPhones, etc. are made oversees and computers ship with parts that are no longer up-gradable. So, the standard Apple Care 3-year plan makes a lot of since (smile...smile).

@@strugglingbee Thank you, for relying to my post. I served in the U.S. Air Force for 7-years and left at the junior officer rank of Captain as an electronics engineering working on the Space Shuttle and other space projects. As for as the cost to repair an Apple computer system, after the first years warranty period both parts and labor normally cost about 25 percent of the price of buying a new model. So, the system is really designed to always get you to buy a newer version about every five (5) to seven (7) years (smile...smile).

There are also two different flavors of AppleCare+. There’s the pay it all up front which is “cheaper” but it only buys you the 2 or 3 years of coverage that it comes with, and after that, it’s done. If you buy the pay-as-you-go version, it costs more for the same period of coverage, but you can just keep paying for it after the 2 or 3 years is up and you’ll still have the coverage. I think that since many people keep their MacBooks for quite a few years, this could be the better option for some people, especially if you bought one of the higher end models. It’s probably not worth it for one of the lower models though due to the co-pay amount for replacement vs. the amount you’ve paid for the coverage for however many years. (I would caveat that before you just take my word for it, make sure you ask someone at Apple to confirm this before you make your decision and plunk down your money. This was true at the time I checked with them about it, but that doesn’t mean it’ll never change.)

@@babybirdhome Yes, I agree with your comments 100 percent. Thank you, for providing "Struggling Bee" more complete and detailed information about the two (2) different versions of Apple Care. Yes definitely get Apple Care, they take care of you. Also Apple really helps you with everything to do with hardware and software that runs on their products it doesn’t matter if the software is not Apple software they will still work with you to get it running. I have used Apple tech support on things that are not even covered by warranty and they still worked with me to get everything working perfectly, you can’t say that about too many companies now days at all. I’ve gone from a Apple hater to someone who recommends Apple products to everyone.

Apple Care Plus is basically insurance. If there was a manufacturing defect, that is anyway covered under warranty, and you could return it for free. Unless you accidentally spill beverages on your laptop or crack the screen by letting things in when it’s closed, or other such damages, you don’t need insurance for laptop.
On the other hand, Apple has ID locked all the parts on the recent laptop models. Using working parts from other MacBooks may not work at all with your laptop hardware ID, or have important features disabled. So it makes more financial sense to get free* part replacement from Apple under the insurance, because they can set the hardware IDs.

Regarding AppleCare+ protection, after the experiences with my M1 iPad Pro over the last year I will never go without that plan. Let me explain.
I bought the M1 12.9” iPad Pro (5th Edition) in March of 2022. Immediately, I noticed something in the lens of my front facing camera. The camera worked perfectly so I didn’t worry about. Then about 6 months later, when using that camera for a selfie, there was no image. The camera was completely blocked. Whatever it was covering the lens it seemed to have grown. I brought it to my local Apple dealer (Jump+, because the closest Apple Store is a 4 hour drive south) and they arranged a replacement. Thankfully, I had AppleCare+ and iCloud+ so everything went off without a hiccup (except for the 10 day wait 😳). So everything’s fixed, right? Umm, no. It happened again! When I got the replacement the camera lens was clear. About a month later a spot showed up in the lens housing. It didn’t affect the camera image so I watched and waited. The spot actually grew! When it was evident that it was going to start covering the lens I brought it in to Jump+. Again, the tech looked at it, sent it in and Apple replaced it (7 days this time, but still 😳). This third iPad has been spot free since April of this year but I still watch and worry. 7 days without my iPad and I get shaky.
Long story short … the $3,000 iPad i bought (yes, CDN taxes are a bitch) was replaced twice for an upfront cost of $159.00 + tax. Each time Jump+ threw in a screen protector … only because they are good people, not because it was owed to me.
I will never, ever, purchase an apple product without AppleCare+ protection.
