I was a kid of the 80’s stuck on pop and rock - I just didn’t have the appreciation for the pure talent that is out there. Thanks for exploring these wonders that will forever bring joy and elicit awe. Oh - and I just subscribed! 👍
They've all been friends for decades. Emmy Lou (she's the one in the middle) tells the story of when she first met Linda and asked who her favorite girl singer was (apparently that is a quite common occurrence when female songstresses meet for the first time according to her) and they both named Dolly. Once they all gathered together and started to harmonize they realized how well their voices blended and knew they wanted to record together. It took many years to work out the logistics since all three were extremely successful and touring plus at different labels but finally they were able to coordinate in the late '80's and put out the album "Trio" which was so successful (including winning a Grammy) they reunited for a second album titled Trio II. Over the decades all three have contributed backup vocals to each others work often and Linda recorded a very successful version of Dolly's "I Will Always Love You" which in turn was what brought the song to the attention of Whitney Houston for use in the film "The Bodyguard" leading it to be an enormous hit for her as well, though her version is much different. Linda has retired now having been stricken with progressive supranuclear palsy which has robbed her of her voice and mobility but all three women have remained close.
I am generally familiar with the story and with each of them as a musician and as kind of an iconic part of our culture, but I had never heard quite that much detail. That is wonderful. Really cool.
Linda first met EL in a bar in Fort Worth. Dolly has said Linda is the best singer she’s ever met. They all appreciate each other and their talents, true friends. Especially for Linda and Dolly, they did need to do these recordings or perform as Trio for career boosts.
Dig in to Linda. She was the first female rock star to fill stadium concerts. Successfully recorded Rock, Pop, Country, New Wave, Opera, Afro-Cuban, Jazz, American Standards, Mariachi and recorded duets with the biggest stars in music. Musicians worldwide refer to her as the greatest singer ever. You will fall in love with her vocals. Promise.
Hi Britt - Yes please, a Linda Ronstadt rabbit hole!! Blue Bayou (a must), You're No Good, When Will I Be Loved, Dark End of the Street, Willin', Silver Threads and Golden Needles and still days of songs to go. She sings every style impeccably. Arguably the greatest voice of her generation, agreed upon by her peers. She could sing the phone book and sound mesmerizing. Love your channel
Let us not forget about they great Emma Lou Harris ,she is a member country music hall of fame, has 14 grammies including a grammie life time achievement and of course a member of the grand old opera
The short version of the trio's formation is that each of them is a Superstar in her own right. They were also mutual admirers of one another. It began informally while hanging out together in one of their homes, just singing together, and deciding to perform together. Very natural and unpretentious for them. Awesome for the rest of us!
Wondered when you would get to "The Trio". Linda Ronstadt once kicked her fledglings out of the band telling them it was time to make their own music. You know them as "The Eagles".
I imagine the opera album you mean is from when she was performing in the Broadway version of Gilbert and Sullivan’s the Pirates of Penzance! At first people didn’t think she would be good at that style of music. Boy did she shock them! She totally WOWED New York audiences! What an outstanding professional and performer! What a shame she has lost her health and voice. All my prayers for her. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Linda Ronstadt is a phenomenal artist and entertainer singing different genres. If you havent heard it please listen to her version of "Tell It Like It Is" with Aaron Neville. Just stunning...and they won a grammy.
Was just about to comment on Linda and how great she is, in multiple genres, but please don't miss her duets with Aaron Neville. He has the voice of an angel, and together they can make anyone believe in Love.
According to Linda, one time Emmy Lou called her telling her Dolly was hanging out in her house with other musicians knowing Linda was a fan so Linda drove for abour an hour as fast as she could to get there and meet Dolly. They casually talked about songs they loved and started singing the three of them doing harmonies and stuff and it amazed all of them to realized they sounded great so effortlessly. They had instant chemistry.
That's from her album, Los Cantos de mi Padre ("Songs from my Father.") Her father, originally from Mexico, was a traditional Mexican folk singer and this was her tribute album.
This trio was just a happy accident. Dolly invited them on her first TV series which is where this clip was from, and they figured out that their voices blended so well. It was probably another decade before they actually recorded together, and then they did record two albums together. But I think the three ladies had known each other for years and respected each other immensely. Emmylou released at least one Dolly written song, To Daddy, which was a big hit for her and Dolly sometimes sings it too. Linda sang first sitting on the end, Emmylou is in the middle. Don't sleep on Linda, she is one of the best of all time in any genre. She recorded and chart topped in country, rock, pop, Spanish language and even delved into opera all with huge success. Dolly has said she was amazed at Linda's voice and thought she was the best singer she had ever heard.
After the death, Linda had Emmy Lou stay with her, had her sing backup on albums and introduced her to all the players in the biz to help her out. Best buddies ever since.
You mean Graham Parsons. Emmy Lou began as a folk singer. Graham Parsons was a '60s rocker who wanted to incorporate country and he introduced Emmy Lou to traditional country music, including that of Dolly Parton. But her mentorship with Graham was cut short when he died of a drug overdose. She had to find her own sound, then.
I was born 1970 & grew up listening to most of all music from the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s, 80’s & on. Their music is timeless. Wait til you get to Linda’s Spanish music. WOW 😮
Linda is on the right, Emmy-Lou is in the middle and you already know who is on the left 😂 they were all stars in their own right. Linda and Emmy-Lou had been, and still are, very close friends. They both loved Dolly and met informally one day and just sat around singing. They realized how great they sounded and decided to record something together. Their record company's were against it because they didn't think it would make money. ( how wrong could they be)? Lol. Linda is definitely worth your attention. She is like Elvis, in that she can sing anything. ❤
Porter Wagner discovered Dolly back in the 50’s I think and they sang the greatest duets on his tv program, I remember watching these when I was a little kid with my mom.
They were three of the most influential singers of country/folk/pop of their day. I think they were friends and just decided to do an album together. The album, to me, was a total masterpiece. I don't think they made another album together but I could be wrong.
The 3 of them performed this song together on Dolly's show in 1976. They later collaborated together on a few albums. The first Trio album from 1987 is great & showcases the lovely voices of these talented ladies. Lots of great songs such as "To Know Him Is To Love Him", "Telling Me Lies", "Those Memories Of You", "Wildflowers" etc. They did a 2nd album Trio II in 1999. It also has many hit songs such as "After The Goldrush", "Do I Ever Cross Your Mind", "Feels Like Home" etc.
I know you were told of their meeting, but Dolly tells it that she met Emmy Lou Harris at a house in Laurel Canyon she described as a hippy house of pretty famous musicians all hanging out. They called Linda Ronstadt who lived in Malibu to come out and meet Dolly in person at the house in Laurel Canyon. Linda drove as fast as she could she was so excited to meet Dolly. Eventually they were standing there harmonizing and learned 3 part harmony for The Coat Of Many Colors. They became a trio sometime after that. Very successful ladies of rock and country at that time, as well as all together.
Great reaction as always. Trio were maybe the greatest female singers of the 70s. They were all friends having met at various gigs etc. and always wanted to record together but struggled to find the time in their busy schedules. Eventually they managed to release two albums many years apart. Dolly's voice I think you know. Emmylou has the slightly raspy voice loaded with maximum emotion and has recorded backing harmonies on so many peoples records. Linda is the real superstar and can sing really sweetly and quit but when she opens the throttle, there is no-one can compete with her.
I'm 78 and have had a lifelong crush for Emmylou Harris. Her voice could hit a certain pitch that would give my goosebumps their own goosebumps ("Tulsa Queen" comes to mind) and I always thought she was beautiful although I have friends who don't see it. She is still beautiful to me today and she's 76.
@@ronaldmcrae4896 Tulsa Queen is an incredible song. I love the live versios off the Whistle Test with Albert Lee - you can really feel the train picking up speed. There is no one like Emmylou.
Linda could sing the phone book and it would be awesome. Any genre and she conquered it. Emmylou is a song’s best friend - country rock is her thing. And Dolly is an icon. All great in their own right. Together they are just magic.
🧡 Love 🧡 .. love , love these amazing vocalists !! You are truly becoming a fan of Country Music Britt. You need to check each of these artists with their solo careers .. Linda Ronstadt . Exceptional singer with some classic hits .. and EmmyLou Harris is the voice almost all Country Music fans have fallen in love with. Please , react to their solo stuff. TY ... Loochay 🔥🎼🔥
They were not an official group but it was genius to put three of them together in particular, they are just so good together. So it was like the supergroup and they released an album and it got a lot of attention and it was so good that I think a number of years went by and then they got back together a did and did at least a second iteration of this and all of it as good material. It really is.
I read several comments about Linda Ronstadt but none mentioned “Long Long Time”. I think it’s one of her best vocals. The song recently made a comeback as it was featured in an episode of “The Last of Us”.
Really enjoy your channel. The first artist singing is Linda Ronstadt, Then Emmy lou Harris. and of course Dolly Pardon. Three of The greatest female Country, Rock, Pop Crossover Singers and artist of all time.
Linda is a fantastic and a favorite. Emmy Lou sang a ton of great songs including with The Band in The Last Waltz. Dolly is Dolly-love Jolene. Linda sang way up high in the hilarious classic Pirates of Penzance which is a fun, fun play. Love your reactions.
They are all amazing of course Tolley she's like what she's Dolly Linda my God she has the most amazing voice but truly I love emmylou Harris her song till I can gain control again is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard I love these ladies
The first singer was Linda Ronstadt, who was, at one time, the biggest star in the world. This gathering was their first performance together. The three became friends and met at Linda's house one night and "jammed," as singers are apt to do and they loved it, so planned to do something together, but it took years. Finally, they formed the Trio.
They do have two outstanding albums together. It's a brilliant observation that you said you could just hear that Linda could sing Amazing Grace to perfection. While they didn't sing that song on either album they did include an old gospel song called "Farther Along". It's a song of encouragement to a heavy hearted person struggling with why life on earth is so painful. The song encourages the person to not give up, to trust God and to rest in the hope they'll understand why one day. It's a beautiful song and one my grandmother used to sing to me when I was little. Every single time I listen to the version by The Trio I break down into tears. It's SO perfect, so beautiful, and the harmonies...!!!!
Good morning Brit.hope your doing well . To answer your question about the trio. All 3 woman are activist for animal and human rights. The trio were friends threw their activism. . They put the group together themselves.
As far as I know they kind of found themselves in the same place at the same time and said we should do something together. Unbelievably talented trio here. Linda has performed and recorded rock, country, folk, spanish and light opera. She is sadly no longer singing due to a health issue. EmmyLou has been an amazing singer and writer for years as well. On top of her own songs and recods EmmyLou is probably the most sought after harmony singer ever. She has been asked to lend her voice to so many artists records. Dolly you know about. Multi talented in so many fields. These ladies did (I think) 2 albums together several years apart. For another vid of 3 great voices together try EmmyLou with Alison Krauss and Gillian Welch singing Go to Sleep you little baby from the movie Oh Brother Where art thou. Oh heck I'll just leave you a link to it. Enjoy Britt!! ua-cam.com/video/94h2L9oBOHM/v-deo.html
The Trio Miss Dolly, Emmylou Harris in the Middle and Linda Ronstadt on the right side The TRIO Recorded two albums that I know of the first in 1986 This song was on the Dolly Parton Televison show.
The Trio were all stars in the day and all have hits of their own! In the video from Left to Right is Dolly, Emmylou Harris in the middle to Linda Ronstadt on the right! Linda had a lot of good songs from soft, angelic like "Long, Long Time" to rock type like "It's So Easy" to "You're No Good" (awesome song, btw)! But my favorite is Emmylou Harris! One of more respected voices in music and my favorite song from her is "If I Needed You" duet with Don William and folks have reacted to "Boulder to Birmingham" and another favorite of mine is "Another Lonesome Morning." Can't go wrong with any one of these beautiful ladies!
Hey Britt Great reaction. Listen to this duet by Jonny Cash with Linda Ronstadt "Linda Ronstadt & johnny cash i never will marry" and also listen to Emmylou Harris "Boulder to Birmingham" and you'll have an idea of the two country ladies and their voices alongside Dolly Parton. The EVERLY BROTHERS have very good harmonies. Top musicians, 50-60 years. Here are some songs: "Put My Little Shoes Away" "Ebony Eyes", "I'm Here to Get My Baby out of Jail" or "What Am I Living For" That's music. Have fun!
All three have had great careers. Linda was the first to sing - she's on the right hand side. She probably has the most musical diversity in her catalog - country rock, soft rock, American pop standards, Mexican music, Broadway. Emmy Lou started out in the folk music scene, then as a member of Gram Parsons band (their voices really blended) - she then began a successful and eclectic solo career including many cool collabs. Dolly is, well iconic - singer, songwriter, actor, business woman - who doesn't know and love Dolly Parton?
The Judds. A mother - daughter team that broke country music records. This duo wrote most of their own hits, which is a phenomenal accomplishment for any act in any music genre. Their music appeal lies in their lyrics, music and harmonies. No need for glitzy stage performances that characterize much of modern day music (including country). They are from Kentucky and have a pure country sound with some cross over success.
All three were absolute favorites of mine back then. I really recommend your listening to Linda Ronstadt “Blue Bayou”. This was a massive hit back when and a song played everywhere by everyone. I also recommend Janice Ian “17”. You will absolutely go crazy for this one if you enjoyed “Fast car” by Tracy Chapman. So much great music back then! While we’re talking 17, please also try Fleetwood Mac with Stevie Nicks doing her song “On the edge of 17”. Stevie is the only woman indoctrinated into the music hall of fame, twice. Enjoy your journey back into the past. Much love and appreciation from California!❤️🍀🌈😇🙏🏻❣️
Linda is the one that started the song. She was a "Rock Star" in the 70s. Top earner and sang every genre you can imagine. She dated every major rock star you can think of and was basically responsible for the Eagles becoming a band. I was a teen in the 70s and just didn't get her then, but now I do. If you're interested in another talented trio of ladies, all with successful careers of their own, check out "I'm With Her". Might start with a song called Crossing Muddy Waters, but everything they do is great.
If you enter dolly parton show those memories you'll get an interview with the three of them. They also sing three songs where each does the lead and the others do the backgrounds. They talk about forming the trio. Being a Dolly fan I think you'll love it. Not saying you should react to it, just for your own enjoyment. Make sure you get the video that's about 12 minutes, not just the one song.
I love the trio! They sound so sweet together! My favorite is their rendition of "After the Gold Rush" - the song is so nonsensical and surprising, but also soooo beautiful.
They put out 2 albums. Trio and Trio 2 Trio won album of the year I think. Most beautiful harmonies this side of heaven. Linda can’t sing anymore bc of medical issues but these songs on these albums will live on as the best songs on UA-cam forever,
Linda rondstat is an absolute powerhouse soprano better than Celine dion and more broad on her genres. Interestingly, she always loved singing harmony and on their two trio albums sang harmony most of the songs. All three loved folk type songs from Dolly's roots when they finally got to make an album (took a decade for schedules and legal).
Linda. Linda. Linda. Linda. Linda. First, “Hurt So Bad”. Then, “Down So Low”. Then, “Hasten Down The Wind”. “There are two kinds of men in this world, those who have a crush on Linda Ronstadt and those who never heard of her.” - Willie Nelson
I was a kid of the 80’s stuck on pop and rock - I just didn’t have the appreciation for the pure talent that is out there. Thanks for exploring these wonders that will forever bring joy and elicit awe. Oh - and I just subscribed! 👍

They are perfection together. They put out 2 albums together under the name The Trio. Second one is good, but the first is amazing
that is awesome! they sound great together!
Good morning Brit.hope your doing well . To answer your question about the trio. All 3 woman are activist for animal and human rights. The trio were friends threw their activism. . They put the group together themselves.
that is awesome! love that!
Sweet Child of God, your reactions are eloquent, considered and appreciative. Thank you so much.
"Trio" is one of my favorite albums. I listen to it often.
“Blue Bayou” by Linda!!!!!!!
She could sing anything.
I will keep it in mind, thanks!
👍♥️🤘Three AMAZING talents!!!
The Trio Miss Dolly, Emmylou Harris in the Middle and Linda Ronstadt on the right side The TRIO Recorded two albums that I know of the first in 1986 This song was on the Dolly Parton Televison show.
It’s Linda
thanks!
They're taking us to church!!❤❤❤
Beautiful ❤️🔥
truly!
They were friends who ran to each other on the Opera and heard each other on the radio so they developed a friendship!
Thanks!
Hey Britt
Great reaction.
Here are some songs: "Put My Little Shoes Away"
"Ebony Eyes", "I'm Here to Get My Baby out of Jail" or "What Am I Living For" That's music.
Have fun!
I will keep these all in mind, thanks!
You have the sweetest voice
Awesome reaction! I would love to see you react to Dolly Parton's Mountain Angel !
I will keep it in mind, thanks!
These great friiends made 2 albums together. There is also a documentary of their friendship. They are all tops in their careers.
This trio had many songs...
Their is a video out about it taking about all 3 of them and how the trio got together and began to create music together
Angels
Emmy. Lou Harris is playing the guitar.
thanks for the info!
Beautiful song.
agreed!
That's Linda singing at the beginning, and she can really sing, period.
Beyond beautiful
agreed
@BrittReacts I would recommend their version of "High Sierra" which they sang when they were a bit older.
Thank you for reacting to this always been one of my favorites.
+1
glad you enjoyed it!
Awww, you found one of my faves!! ❤
I love the trio! They sound so sweet together! My favorite is their rendition of "After the Gold Rush" - the song is so nonsensical and surprising, but also soooo beautiful.
I have the first TRIO album, great old traditional country songs.
that is awesome!!
They put out 2 albums. Trio and Trio 2 Trio won album of the year I think. Most beautiful harmonies this side of heaven. Linda can’t sing anymore bc of medical issues but these songs on these albums will live on as the best songs on UA-cam forever,
The Sweetest Gift was a Seldom Scene song which Linda and Emmylou recorded for Linda Ronstadt, Prisoner In Disguise record.
thanks for the info!
Trio. Those Memories
Linda was instrumental in bringing the eagles to form. Glen Frye and don Hendley were in her band.
Glen and Don were members of Linda's backing band, The Stone Poneys in 1968.
Listen to Dolly Parton I will always love you.
Love watching your reactions to Dolly, you should do the song Don't make me come down there by her.
They were together awhile. Won grammys.
that is awesome!
Britt you got to do more LINDA RONSTADT--she has a ton of good songs and she's one of the greatest vocalists ever...her range of songs is stunning.
I will keep it in mind, thanks!
Emmy Lou Harris, Making Believe is a must.
I will keep it in mind, thanks!
Linda. Linda. Linda. Linda. Linda.
First, “Hurt So Bad”. Then, “Down So Low”. Then, “Hasten Down The Wind”.
“There are two kinds of men in this world, those who have a crush on Linda Ronstadt and those who never heard of her.” - Willie Nelson
The greatest three country-folk voices of all time.
They did one album together.
Godgiven
Loved that. Thanks
glad you enjoyed it!
The Trio was a "super group" project they tried to put together for some years. I think they only put out two albums
Emmylou came to prominence after performing with Gram Parsons, who had a cup of coffee with The Byrds (One album I believe.)
so cool!
