Here in Mexico City, 2024 post- pandemic. Remembering when I first heard these voices, first heard those lyrics of Neil Young…70s 80s90s… tears in my eyes for all the beauty that can just go by…
It's real easy to forget a major talent like Janis Joplin she sang acapella no backup and her Mercedes-Benz song dominated the number one spot in the chart for months. I don't see this person singing it without a band behind her so she's got a talent but I got to put my money on Janis Joplin having the best because she stood alone and dominated first place for a long time everybody else got some band
@@omgDavidGlasper Janis Joplin held the Mercedes-Benz song in the number one spot for a few weeks with no music. I would call that the greatest accomplishment for a female vocalist in my life time.
Linda is great, but she lacks pure emotion. There is no greatest, just personal favs. i personally rate Judith Durham light years over any other female singer, and that includes the incomparable Dame Shirley Bassey. 😊
No ego, just pure talent in harmony. You could sense that the trio were both happy and proud to be singing together. The result is music that's heaven on earth.
Love each of these ladies for their talents each brings, but together it is angelic music for my soul. Love, love, love it! I am mesmerized by that glass harmonica!
I've attended two David Letterman shows in my lifetime , this was one of them. My hosts and I had no idea who the guests were that evening (until we got there); and then, this happened. I'm not a religious man, but I suspect this is the closest I'm ever going to get. Absolute perfection.
Well...religion doesn't take anyone to a Heavenly place anyways. If you truly enjoyed the experience, it's time to get in terms with JesusChrist. The place alone and the Angels Choir will blow your mind for the whole eternity. 😉
24 years later, I'm wondering how I missed this! We see Dolly and Linda occasionally through the years, all three emitting true beauty, but not having seen Emmylou Harris since the 80s, she has entered her senior years as an incredibly beautiful woman. I had not idea she was still performing! I love how humble they are, not overpowering or upstaging, a wonderful blending of three iconic voices. Wow.
best trio of all time !! it's a crying shame that Linda Ronstadt can no longer amaze us with her incredible voice. love you always little bare foot girl !!
I love these three women. I have got to say though, on this performance, Dolly’s voice was outstanding and seemed to shine above EmmyLou’s and Linda’s. That Kentucky twang was perfect for this song.
Linda has the extra ordinary ability to weave her voice in tight harmonies that few can match. She's there, you can distinctly hear her, but she's not dominating the melody. All three of their voices are tremendous instruments on their own.
Bella Bella- as to Linda’s voice, I don’t believe anyone else has heard any quite like her either. Listening years earlier to Andrew Gold & Kenny Edwards backing her up is as good as vocal arrangements can get, imo. She’s a treasure no doubt...plus she’s always had “It”
Absolutely heavenly. Great harmony. Linda has always been my favoutite. Devistated when she no longer sang due to her medical issue. 😢 Great to be able to view how great she was. ❤
I remember seeing this live. I was holding a sleepless babe in my arms, rocking her. This performance brought me to tears. Husband bought the CD fo me the next day. Said daughter is all grown. Performance can still evoke tears
How beautiful. Thank you for sharing. This was glorious, heartbreaking. One of my favourite songs elevated by those goddesses. Letterman has always brought such gems as these to light.
I first heard 'After the Gold Rush' as I sat down in the chapel for my best friend's memorial service in October of 1971. Four days earlier we were climbing a 400 foot waterfall when the unthinkable happened. As I took my seat in the chapel I heard the line, "I was thinking about what a friend had said, I was hoping it was a lie." It later occurred to me that every person in the room had lived that line at some point that week. In the song, there is no explanation of what 'a friend had said'. Neil left that to our imagination, which is what makes it so provocative. My friend loved Neil's music and used to especially enjoy singing 'Sugar Mountain' for us. It was 2 months before his 20th birthday when he died, cause you 'can't be twenty on Sugar Mountain'. It almost goes without saying that no other song holds a place in my heart quite like this one.
There is no doubt, this is the best three female trio ever to grace this planet, never equaled, never mind overtaken. God bless Linda Ronstadt and return her voice to its correct place.
By 1999, when they appeared on Letterman, Linda's voice was starting to be affected by the palsy that eventually led to her retirement from public performances and ultimately prevented her from being able to sing at all. When she was at full power, NO ONE could sing like Linda.
I’ve watched a lot of videos of these three singing together, and almost all the comments mention the fact that Linda literally has to hold back when she sings, because her voice is so powerful. She was really one of the best ever.
This song sends chills down my spine. So blessed to have seen Linda LIVE! A divine performance from all. Much love and healing from us to Linda, always
This is the purest form of what our old folks called genuine music! Zero autotunes, just rehearsing until your heart breaks, and when you sing, remember to transmit the feelings and emotions of the simple but incredibly genius compositions. And back then the awards for sales, etcétera were irrelevant! Not today! Sad!
She has an incredible range. In some of the other clips of the three of them, she sings the low harmony. All three of them have simply amazing, iconic voices.
Linda once said that she loved singing like this as she didn't have to sing leads and could focus on harmonies. That 4 octave voice certainly soared in this. Parkinson's is a miserable disease.
The funeral dirge are the bad thoughts, from the left, leading to self destruction. What would leave no trace in 5000 years? Perhaps an ideology that convinced the young that they are destroying the planet, causing them to walk away from civilization leaving only overgrown buildings?
Played Trio 'til it fell apart, Trio 2 suffered the same fate. Absolute perfection. Best example of flawless harmony I've ever heard. Thank you, ladies.
The part that really hit me is the look of absolute joy and happiness on Linda's face as she looks over at the other two -- as if there is NO PLACE in the world that she would rather be than on that stage adding her voice to help create that magic!
Just listened to an old concert from the 70's on UA-cam when Linda described getting a breathless call from Emmylou to hurry and get herself over to her house; their favorite singer, Dolly Parton was there. She went on to say they sang together, sounded pretty good and hoped something would come of it. Something did!
i listen to linda rondstadt's voice and it brings tears to my eyes. such a glorious voice silenced by disease, i'm glad i had a chance to hear her at her best in my lifetime.
These three ladies together are the ultimate in musical mastery. The harmony makes hair stand, sends tingles down spines, gives goose bumps and fills my heart with wonder every time I hear this song. Linda’s, Emmy’s and Dolly’s harmony is out of this world. Only these three legends can sound so surreal and magical. This is a magical arrangement and the voices cannot be matched.
This song is so brilliant that I have to listen to it daily. The voices are insane, but it’s the harmony that makes this version so beautiful. Neil Young wrote this song but these three ladies have lifted it to fab heights. Dolly’s voice is superb and Linda and Emmy bring such celestial harmony to make this version an angelic version that NY would be proud of. This version is a treasure.
Linda Ronstadt is arguably the most gifted vocalist of our time. Unlike many other wonderful singers, Linda can sing anything; opera, country, standards, folk, and she can rock. Not too many others can do that. What a cruel thing that she has a disease that has silenced her.
I’m 68. After the Gold Rush is one of my favorite albums. I heard this version from their CD many years ago. It is the most stunning, beautiful piece of music I have heard. To hear it done live brought tears to my eyes. The most beautiful voices in perfect harmony.

Dolly singing solo, and then Linda's beautiful alto voice comes in. Oh, how l love her voice. One of the few singers I can actually listen to the whole album/CD. All three are wonderful in their own right. Even better together. Thankyou U-tube.
It took my many times listening to this masterpiece to realize the high harmony was Linda's! I guess I usually had my eyes closed, floating away, and didn't watch the video. There's a brief two part harmony at about 2:26 where it shows only Linda and Dolly singing. I don't think I ever appreciated that she had that kind of range. I suppose that's usually the domain of background singers, and she alway sang lead. What an instrument she had.
I've been listening since I was a a child in the 70's to Linda's gift. I'm a professional vocalist and I'm sooooo glad I lived in the same era and was able to see her live.
This song brought me to tears, in a good way. These three women did an awesome job with it. As a fan of all three, when I found this video, I automatically knew it would sound awesome. So glad I found it. The song is very powerful, and gets me in my heart. I love this, and I love all of these beautiful ladies.
I think of Linda now and then and feel so sad we won’t ever hear her sing again........Parkinsons is such a cruel illness it certainly robbed us of a pearl who really did sing songs for the lost and the lonely
But I saw her interviewed a while ago on the Tavis Smiley show. She talked about her disease. I don't even know if I could be as humble as she was, and I'd been through some pretty rough times. Linda is a class act and quite a lady. I was inspired by her wisdom ..
I think Linda Ronstadt is one of the classiest acts ever to come out of the States. Eloquent, charming, humble, kind,,generous warm compassionate, considerate and a voice ,a voice that has reduced me to tears on so many occasions. She really is a national treasure .
The nostalgia beauty of this performance is like a punch in the gut. We have three ladies I hold dear to my heart singing in wonderful harmony a Neil Young song from my youth. I think I sprung a leak out the corner of my eye.
Dolly has the most beautiful voice I’ve ever heard Allison Krauss is a close second I’m positive this is what angels singing sounds like God blessed us with these ladies we need to appreciate and thank them and god
This was a beautiful performance by three very talented women. The musicians backing them were fantastic and creative and added the finishing touches to what I consider to be a masterpiece.
I can’t think of any singers today that can match these three ladies. I mean they are F-ing legends and 100 years from now people will still be listening to their bodies of work because they have once in a lifetime talent, true musicians
This is my all time favorite version of "After the Gold Rush". These ladies were born to harmonize together. As far as the lyric changes go, it makes complete sense to me. I mean, come on ... Can you imagine any of these ladies singing about getting high? Absolutely not.♥
As my eyes filled with tears and my throat lumped up, I sat and listened in awe to the gift of their angelic voices, as memories rushed through my mind.
Flying Mother Nature's silver seed to a new home in the sun. Not the best choice. It's very hot. I'm from Canada, and Neal Young was great, but I always found the lyrics to this song rather silly. The girls sounded excellent, though!
As a person who loves neil, dave, dolly emmylou and linda, this is a slice of paradise. I watch at least once a week. I was lucky enough to hear Dolly speak last month....i was 20 yards from her, but the vibe she cast over the room ill never forget. Also her suster rachel made biscuits for anyone who hung out afterwards. Rachel was so sweet
These are three very talented women and they have harmony down to a science. But it is the most beautiful Linda Ronstadt whose vocals stand out to me. I miss her singing and pray for her to be well everyday.
Great song, great trio... I used to sing this Neil Young song to my oldest boy when I put him to bed over 30yrs.ago. I took him to a Neil Young concert when he was about 19-20yrs.old. He leaned over to me during the concert and yelled in my ear, "Dad I know this song". Old Dad here, felt pretty good. Still do.

Everything Linda did was a masterpiece.

Yup all great but 1977 December in Atlanta...Desperado the best. Just Linda, a piano and 10000 people listening in the dark. She was fearless!

Gives me chills. So thankful that this treasure has been preserved.
This song brought me to tears, in a good way. These three women did an awesome job with it. As a fan of all three, when I found this video, I automatically knew it would sound awesome. So glad I found it.
The song is very powerful, and gets me in my heart. I love this, and I love all of these beautiful ladies.
The angels in Heaven will sound like These Ladies. In our darkest hour hour God sends a light.
Amen
Agree!
There are no gods or angels. There is talent.
Fuck NATO that night they started to bomb us
On a tv show?
I think of Linda now and then and feel so sad we won’t ever hear her sing again........Parkinsons is such a cruel illness it certainly robbed us of a pearl who really did sing songs for the lost and the lonely
But I saw her interviewed a while ago on the Tavis Smiley show. She talked about her disease. I don't even know if I could be as humble as she was, and I'd been through some pretty rough times. Linda is a class act and quite a lady. I was inspired by her wisdom ..
John Boyle I know I think of her too and feel that same sadness
I think Linda Ronstadt is one of the classiest acts ever to come out of the States. Eloquent, charming, humble, kind,,generous warm compassionate, considerate and a voice ,a voice that has reduced me to tears on so many occasions. She really is a national treasure .
Just PERFECT
Jungle fever did her in..very sad...
The nostalgia beauty of this performance is like a punch in the gut. We have three ladies I hold dear to my heart singing in wonderful harmony a Neil Young song from my youth. I think I sprung a leak out the corner of my eye.
Just speechless..............these women and their voices are just incredible...WOW, just WOW
Listening in 2021. What a beautiful song by three beautiful ladies. No frills, just raw talent. Thank you for posting this!
A decent cover the original is much better Neil Young did it perfectly and Emmy lou has sung back up on that song for 40 years with neil
Ronstat stinks as usual.
Listening in 2022.
true
@@rosanneweeks2415 me too!!
Watching repeatedly and feeling awe everytime.
this amazing trio... Linda with prefect pitch. Emmylou with her amazing talent for Harmony. What can you say about Dolly... heaven given talent.
Emmylou has been so under rated for years she always has been a phenomenal singer!
Dolly has the most beautiful voice I’ve ever heard Allison Krauss is a close second I’m positive this is what angels singing sounds like God blessed us with these ladies we need to appreciate and thank them and god
No one better than Linda. Bringsme to tears every time. The collaboration is genius and the best ever. Crystal clear angels.
Watching in 2024! Love this so much!
Ronstadt's voice on "Telling Me Lies" from the 1st TRIO is killer. This is pretty damn beautiful as well. Linda and Neil Young were very good friends.
This is why I love You Tube. Sometimes recordings I did not know existed come along to delight me. Thank you for uploading this.

@@LONMOWER77 Why the sad face?
You tube is the best gift we have ever had. That's all there is to hope for in world of disillusioned souls
I remember seeing this when it was first broadcast. Such a beautiful rendition of Neil Young classic, by three angels. Love ya, Linda!! 😍😎
Amen, to that, my thoughts exactly...
This was a beautiful performance by three very talented women. The musicians backing them were fantastic and creative and added the finishing touches to what I consider to be a masterpiece.
I am a 67 year old man with tears streaming down my face!
Yup 😭
@@luv2cook. guess we are human, pass the kleenex
I am 63 and reacted in exactly the same way. What a wonderful song rendition.
😭😭😭
Oh please.
Those days...
I am thankful, so thankful, that these three collaborated and made some cds while Linda Ronstandt still could sing.
Hi Sherry hope you're okay?
I’m grateful to have lived in an era of singers if this quality and character
Yes indeed . Did not realise how luckly we were at the time .Took such quality for granted.
Linda Ronstadt married a terrorist
This is so beautiful it brought tears of elation to my eyes.
There is not a single thing about this that isn't just....perfect.
Sean Cruse I didn't care for the change in lyrics to apparently appease the network but the singing was beautiful.
Flying Mother Nature's silver seed to a new home in the sun. Not the best choice. It's very hot. I'm from Canada, and Neal Young was great, but I always found the lyrics to this song rather silly. The girls sounded excellent, though!
@Midnight Rider Well, yeah. Everything needs more cowbell, especially cows. Goes without saying.
3 of the most talented female vocalists. What a beatific arraignment.
lisa caron, Jim Morrison would have sung it the right way!
Yes. God bless her. She has brought us so much joy.
Me too!
Yeah, but she started to inject politics into her performances leading to many a walkout.
@@williamjordan8603 Their loss
To all you imbeciles who have got political. Linda Ronstadt hasn't sang for nearly NINE YEARS.
How could anyone dislike this performance? This was beautiful.

@@WadeKingston well said!
There are a lot of kids online that just go around giving thumbs down to anything that isn't auto tune and twerking.
So happy to see Linda Ronstadt too.. amazing voice… all three are so gifted
So sorry for the infringe on your privacy. Beautiful song. Hello
3 of my favorite ladies! What wonderful voices! No one will EVER be better! What a song, made me cry!
Hello Rhonda
How are you doing today?
What a beautiful song ! Made me get emotional for some reason. They sound like Angels singing from Heaven
Still do.
No lasers - no strobe lites - no smoke machines - no twerking - just plain raw talent. Beautiful!
Fred Dalkeith yes
Dolly, picking a guitar with those nails, not to mention her voice. And Linda and Emmylou, what more needs be said! Legend!
Such a boring generic comment
@@popland1977 I guess you didn't like women either
😥😪🗽.... gotcha no sense of humor I swear, hey but that has two women dudes you would be nothing not even here believe it or not.
Almost 22 years later...wow this is so moving🥰
I play this at least once a month. I close my eyes and just melt away with the beautiful harmonies. It's like being in church.
I'm so glad these women got together. Their music is amazing.
Every now and then amongst all of the crap on UA-cam a gem like this comes along.
This turned up in my recommendations again, after a year. It's still brilliant.
beautiful... this sort of perfect performance only comes from a lifetime of dedication to the art
Absolutely! Not only sung by three superstar women but the words are even more relevant today!
Hello dear, how are you doing, how is the weather over there, can i be your friend if you don't mind?
