Lordy, finally someone is reacting to Emmylou Harris! She was a staple in my house growing up, and nobody can sing like her, nobody! She has a huge catalog of songs. My family's band did so many of her songs. She is iconic. Some great songs of hers to do are "Making Believe", "To Daddy", "Even Cowgirls get the Blues", "Cest la Vie, You Never Can Tell" and I'll stop there because I'm sure I just butchered the heck out of the spelling of the last one, it's Cajun. 😬

Released in 1976, this a cover of Pasty Clines 1963 posthumous hit Sweet Dreams, written by Don Gibson. You'll have to give Pasty's a listen as you know she is in a league all her own. Emmylou won the Grammy for Country Female in 1977 for the album featuring this single. Funny enough, Linda Ronstadt won the year before (1976), for the song I Can't Help It (if I'm Still in Love With You) with Emmylou singing back up harmony on the track.

It was Emmylou's version of "Sweet Deams" that went to number 1 country. It even got played AOR radio - "classic rock" today. The name of the album was "Elite Hotel". On that album is "Till I Gain Control Again" with Emmylou, Linda Ronstadt and Fayssoux Starling making some of the most beautiful harmonies ever made in the history of recorded music. It's a great album. It won Grammy, Best Country album of the year, 1976, I believe it was.

The perfection you just listened to was a live performance. Emmylou always surrounds herself with the best musicians there are. She certainly doesn't have to talk them into it. Rock musicians who've either retired or their bands have broken up flock to her. They all want to play and sing with her. She's a musician's musician.
Sweet Dreams was originally recorded by Patsy Cline, which was gorgeous. This version is just as gorgeous. She does do faster songs. If you want one, Amarillo is funny, If I Could Only Win Your Love has the best harmonies, and Deeper Well is almost a rock song. She has done a lot of Neil Young songs, and he generally comes in and harmonizes on those. I want to give you about a hundred suggestions. Emmylou has the voice of an angel and she's just as well-known as Dolly and Linda. She does a lot of western feeling country songs, my personal favorite being Rose of Cimmaron but everything she sings is great and she always has the best musicians. Well worth diving into.

When I was a young adult I was a rocker but somehow I came across Emmylou Harris and fell in love with her voice. She's released close to 30 albums, most of which I have, and I have seen her in concert at least 35 times. Dubbed the Godmother of Americana Music, and the Queen of Country Rock, her music defies genre. Hope to hear more Emmylou reactions from you.

Emmylou along with Gram Parsons (The Flying Burrito Brothers), and a number of other artists (Ry Cooder, Jerry Jeff Walker, Commander Cody and his Lost Planet Airmen to name a few) formed a rebel alliance in country music and bucked a lot of the traditional ideas of country music.
