When you remodeled your rental single wide, I enjoyed every minute of it. And you sure left your landlord with a much better home than when you all moved in. Then when you bought this place I was so excited to get to watch it transform under Tim’s expert work and your love and care. I got my first chickens a year ago. They free range. They don’t roam too far. They know where their food and water is. They are fun. They have their own distinct personalities. I’ve enjoyed them. The hens lay their eggs in the coop but they sleep in the tree. It’s funny.

Valerie, Tim did great job painting, that’s great coverage paint. Looks so great. Renovating hard work that sometimes in the structure you see no progress but really there is. Taking a break is good idea then you’ll be ready to start fresh with excitement.

I know you can feed your chickens the shells from their eggs to give them the calcium they need to produce eggs. You can Google it to read about it. Also they don't have taste buds so you can actually feed them hot peppers and the seeds from hot peppers. It won't bother them. They will love eating any scraps you have left over from making salads and veggies.
I love it when the daffodils start to flower, we’ve got loads and then the tulips, they look so pretty.

Contact your local extension office, every county should have one. They most likely have reference material and possibly classes on raising chickens.

We knew that going into retirement that we didn't want a mortgage. The mobile home was so affordable, and once we are finished renovating, it will be like brand new. I love it. ❤️

Chickens are great! Wonderful pets. When we had them I would drive in the driveway after work and they would run up to the car and wait for me to get out because they knew I had treats for them from the leftovers at the group home I worked for. They will eat ANYTHING, so feed them all the leftovers and scraps. If you feed them eggshells make sure to break them up really small so they don't realize they're eating eggs, or they will decide to eat their own eggs. And after that happens it's almost impossible to break them of the habit. In the winter I fed them dry cat food once in awhile for extra protein, and also once in awhile a can of canned mackerel. They loved it. They will not wander away. We left them in the enclosure until after they laid their eggs in the morning and then let them free range. They always came right back to the coop at dusk.
Thank you. I had just learned that about chickens eating fruits and veggies. I'll definitely be bringing them treats. I can't wait to get started. My coop arrived yesterday so it won't be long now. 😊
We bought an old house from 1953 and have been slowly remodeling. Just finished a room and hallway today. Feeling happy and relieved today… I’ll rest on this happiness awhile before I start another room….

Black would have been so cool. A shade of black is actually the color of the year for one of the big paint companies. I would never be brave enough to do the walls completely in black, but possibly half way up the wall, with white on top. The blue you picked is beautiful. I keep getting drawn to that beautiful wide window. It is like looking at a different picture everyday on the wall as the landscape changes by the day. So happy for you.❤

Wow its all coming together and I think it's only when you look back at where you started , you realise just how far you've come.
I know when we did our whole house renovations on a property we purchased, that hadn't been updated for nearly 25 years, it really helped us to stay positive with before and after pictures.
You and your family are not just making a home you are making memories ❤😊

Chickens always come home to roost. I had free range chickens and they stayed on our property and they will if they’re fed. At night, however, chickens like shelter. Just open the coop door and they’ll go right in at dusk. No wrangling needed. Also, a coop at night keeps them protected from predators.

You folks are doing such a wonderful job on your home! That blue is a perfect, calming Color for a bedroom.
The free range chickens are a good idea, but you'll need to keep them safe at night so nothing gets them. When Tim gets the fence up for the dogs, that would be a great place to let the chickens rome. You'll still need to secure at night. As for helping Tim, you feed the man those wonderful meals and come up eith the "Honey Do List." Which I know he loves you for.
Build what they call a chicken tractor. It has wheels on one end and you move it around the property to give them a fresh area. This also protects them from predators. Living where you are predators most like abound from the ground to the sky.
You will do fine with chickens. We have around 16 in a coop with a court yard attached. It is screened in with chicken wire. We have too many neighbor dogs to let them free range. We hang a heat light inside to coop during the winter. We feed them laying mash and cracked corn in the am. We check eggs twice a day, so they don't break them. We also have a heated water container to keep it from freezing in the winter. Enjoy your new chickens.

Hi Valerie, we have chickens on a standard house block. We have a hutch for them to sleep in at night and during the day we put them in a covered wire box, fairly large with no bottom so they can scratch around in the grass. This is just a temporary measure because we have only just moved in. We have let our chooks (Aussie for chicken) roam around the garden before, but you need to know that they will dig everywhere, especially where you have just planted or have been gardening. The best solution is to have a hutch with a large yard around it with bird wire all round and on top to stop birds of prey and foxes. That way they can scratch around and be safe and your garden beds are safe too. If you have good fencing on your property and don't mind them laying their eggs all over the place, then they will be ok in the yard. But be warned, they are extremely good at finding new hiding places to lay their eggs, so you need to be prepared to hunt for them. They are well worth the effort though.
Thank you for all the great tips. I ordered a chicken run so they'll have a safe place to scratch around. Eventually, we will let them free roam and then bring them in at night. 😊

I guess it won't be much longer now until y'all have Lowe's come and install the new flooring in his room and granny's room. The renovations in their rooms really came a long way sence y'all moved in and I like watching the transformation. I hope y'all's son will like his new bedroom once he moves into it. It was pretty helpful how you moved thim branches around for Tim so he didn't have to step up and down. Y'all make a great team and always help each other out in any way y'all can! ❤
Chickens will come back to their coop each night to roost. Keep them locked in the coop for about a week, then let them free range. Let them out mid afternoon and you will notice them coming back to roost as the sun goes down. Of course you need to be aware of predators as well. Chickens are wonderful pets and they have their own personalities which is fun to watch.
We always do outside work in the spring, summer, and fall; inside work in the winter, rainy days and very hot days. We finished remodeling our home in two years. It was hard work, but we love the results. I enjoy watching your videos. I can see your husband's personality peeking out.

Love the blue. It's like a country blue. I don't think it's too dark. Good color for a boy who wanted black (can you imagine?) Lol. I like darker colors for bedrooms. Nicer to get some good shut-eye in. You and Tim are making good progress. It'll all be finished before you know it. Hugs and kisses to all the fur babies.

Two tips for baby chicks; keep them warm with a light and keep their food and water clean and don’t worry. If you buy healthy chicks they are almost indestructible ❤
Oh we loved this vid. The special appearances from Willow ,Max and Milo was wonderful. My Yorkie watched 3 times yesterday. Love the rooms and when you showed the 1 st pic before all the work wow what a difference. Yall are doing great. So jealous but grateful yall are happy and getting to see the finish line coming. Wow that blue! I would have only painted 1 wall, darker colors make a room look smaller. You hubby has a talent for building.
Valerie, my mom has had chickens for years. When you get your chickens and put them in their coop. Just keep them in it until they are grown. They will come back to it every evening at the same time. You have to worry about dogs, fox, coyotes.
Valerie and Tim, you should look into a chicken tractor with wheels. It sounds funny but you get the free range benefit while keeping the girls together. 🙂

If you lock your chickens up for a week or so they will know its home and go back in the coup themselves at dusk. They are easy to raise and you will love all the eggs. You will do fine. Cant wait to see your chicken adventure.

It was chilly here in central NC.55 all day and windy.I had a nice mile walk at 4.It takes me 25 mins.Love that shade of blue!!!It matches Tim's shirt.Can you have a big fenced in section in your yard oear near the barn for the chckens?There are hawks and coyotes.All 50 states have coyotes now.
We ordered a chicken run, but eventually, the chickens will be free-range during the day, but we will bring them into the coop at night. 😊

I love how much they love y'all and y'all them. Just precious. Valerie I don't know a lot about chickens but I'll tell you what I do know. They need a safe and secure place at night so that predators cannot get to them. I seen some had a giant cage, basically. Top, bottom, and 4 sides. I think it was similar to a dog run. All pipe and chainlink fencing with a gate made in one side. The whole thing was completely covered in chicken wire with 2 layers. That may have been extreme but I'm not sure. The wire cage was connected to a walk through wooden building that had doors on each end so they could be put in at night and sheltered during bad weather. You can let the chickens free range during the day. They usually stick close by. I think they like to have some shade and coverage from rain. I would search YT and see what you can find out from someone who has chickens. I never had any because I live in the city limits. I think that they might allow them now but I'm too old now to take care of chickens. My grandparents had a farm and we always had fresh eggs. I love them. They had a mean rooster once and he flogged my grandpa. Grandpa had to eat that one. I don't know if it makes any difference but i would get babies and raise them up. It's good to have at least one rooster to protect the girls. I love to hear them crow too. I hope you all have a beautiful blessed night. Love Melissa in the mountains of Virginia. 🙏 ❤

Years ago, I told myself I am not washing out paint rollers and paintbrushes anymore.
I started putting them in a ziploc and putting them in the fridge.
The next day, I’d take the Ziploc out of the fridge, let the brush/ roller sit out (still in the Ziploc) to get to room temperature, then resume painting!
