My sister is in the last stages of dying from cancer and I’ve not been able to think of anything else. My husband said why don’t you look up that English girl who cleans that you love so much. So I did. Thank you so much for allowing me to smile a bit. I totally understand the chin hair … need I say more 😂. Your son is adorable and he is really proud of himself for helping mum. I love your casual honesty about your life. About that cubbard you wanted advice on, perhaps a lazy-susan would work on top shelf. On the bottom of dog shelf leaving so much empty space in front is a magnet for throwing stuff on thus causing the need to declutter again. Love your optimism about everything. Thanks again for helping me cope on such a bad day. ❤

I'm just at the intro and you know what? It is refreshing to see an actual lived in home with clutter spots. It's realistic. Not a fan of the videos where they clean it before they record and it already looks organized. Thank you for posting this. I really appreciate it!

    Hi Remi.
Once again, letting you know that you are loved and appreciated for your honesty and inspirational videos.
Grannie Cyndy from South Australia here. At 72 yrs old I am using your wonderful videos to inspire me to declutter before it's too late. I don't want to leave a mess behind. As you said, a little bit at a time works wonders for me. I have achieved so much over the last twelve months. And you have played a large role in my success. Thankyou so much Remi.

@remiclog I suggest that you put the painting stuff in the closet with the vacuum, or under the sink around that corner in the back, and put **any boxed foods and plates, bowls, cups on a higher shelf.** Canned goods or things **in hard plastic packaging or containers** can go on a middle shelf. But you **don't want ANYTHING in cardboard or plastic bags or that you'll be eating or drinking from** in a lower cabinet. It's a food safety thing. Some people even store cups upside down and plates/bowls upright vertically, **like how they rest in a dishwasher or dish rack, NOT stacked**, especially in the past, to keep their dishes clean and keep critters off of them.

I used to have old cards and letters miixed in with paperwork in misc boxes. I finally pulled them out and put them in a dedicated container.
I did throw away the ones that had no real sentimental value. I kept everything from my Mom, my Mother-in-law, my son, my husband, and really special friends. When I run across them every few years, it's like a visit with my Mom, who passed away 30 years ago, and my friend who passed away 10 years ago. ❤❤

I'm 73 and have gone through so many organizational periods. Nothing really helped until it clicked that you put it back where it came from. Once you establish its place, return it every time. That's The Rule. The seconds it costs you short term, saves hours of re-do, later. You're an absolute joy to watch, and several statements actually brought me to tears of joy and remembering. Thank you for that! If you teach your husband and kids the rule and insist on it, your life actually changes. But, you have to embody it.❤❤❤❤😂😂😊😊

I just lost my dad. He died 6 days after the 2 year anniversary of my mom's death. The loss of my father has made me feel like I need to make changes in my life. If they are watching over me, I want them to be proud and at peace. Hearing you say, "2024 is gonna be the year I no longer have unneccessary stuff smushed into every crevice of this house" gives me such inspiration to tackle my own cluttered home. Decluttering my house and getting things to where it's easier to keep it organized and clean would be like taking a huge weight off of my shoulders I think. I love watching your videos; I tell my husband all the time how relaxing they are. You're so so kind, caring, genuine, and inspiring. Thank you for sharing your life with us. It seems unlikely that you’ll see this since it’s been months since you posted this, but regarding the cards and the feeling of betrayal you described: I recently heard the advice about keeping loved ones’ belongings who have passed, and how, if they were still here to say so, they would likely let you know that they don’t want you keeping their stuff to compromise you enjoying your day to day life - they would want you to declutter what you need to, and keep a couple mementos that will serve you as you choose… but they wouldn’t want their stuff to be holding you back. I feel it’s surely the same situation with cards from your loved ones, so I hope perhaps that mindset shift might help you or someone else going through similar dilemmas! 💌

After I clean the kitchen every evening I declutter, clean, and organize one drawer or one shelf in the kitchen. It takes me 64 days to do the entire kitchen and pantry, then I start over again, in time your drawers will only need a quick tidy, you may even skip a drawer/shelf because it won't need attention.
Edit: You got yourself a new subscriber, that was an epic job cleaning and organizing your kitchen! Watching from Arizona, USA.

I really love that you are showing your son that cleaning can be calm and organized even if he spills everything. My husband still has a stress reaction when I am cleaning because his mother panicked cleaned just before guests arrived which lead to her screaming at the kids. It seems no matter how long we have been together and the fact that I keep my house in order so there is absolutely no stress cleaning, it still lives with him.

@@remiclogit doesn't sound weird at all. I have a favorite utensil as well. I prefer this sugar spoon that is from the set that came from my grandmother's house. And years and years ago I had this long handled spoon that was the milkshake spoon - the one my father used to make milkshakes for me with slightly melted ice cream and any add-ins. It is long gone, having been either thrown away accidentally - possibly left in an ice cream tub - or lost in the move, or donated. I wish that I still had that spoon every so often to this day - over ten years later. So no, you having a favorite spoon or utensil is not weird at all.

It’s odd but declutterring seems to get a lot easier the more you do it. When I started I really struggled. Now it’s a lot easier. I can let things go with less angst and stress. Things I kept thinking I needed them have now been let go as I realise I don’t. My wardrobe has gone from 110 items to 12. The stress has left me. It’s uplifting for sure.😊. Good luck to everyone on their journey. Ps. I also got rid of my junk drawer!!!😮. I put pens in my paperwork cupboard. Batteries in my tool kit in a little box. I just found homes for all the crap. It freed up a drawer for me to put utensils in so I could clear the counter tops. Result!😊

There is something about decluttering that does great things to our mindset. Once i started letting go of sentimental things like cards, it started getting easier for me to become unattached to a lot of clutter. It also started lifting up my spirits and clearing up my head. I'm not quite a minimalist but it is my goal. I also see a difference in my husband and kid's when they can live in a clearer, clutter free home. Turns out, my kid's don't even need a ton of toys. When we moved from a large house to a very small cabin style home, we got rid of so many toys and my kid's didn't even notice. They have their favorite ones and they play with them all the time.

Remi, I haven’t had a lot of good, healthy consistency in my life. I had bad parents and when I got married (to a wonderful man) it felt too good to be true and inside I kept waiting for the shoe to drop.
But he loves me dearly and has shown so. I got very sick right after we got married and we couldn’t have babies for 3 years. (Not as long as some, but still painful). And when it finally happened, I took three tests! And I kept them all. I kept mine from my last baby as well, she is my precious rainbow baby. I kept hers as well.
My mom used to make fun of me for wanting to keep everything when now I know I was trying to keep a sense of stability and comfort in my life since I had none.
I can see that with my son when we haven’t been good with a schedule and if we go through the toys, he wants to keep everything, even little broken pieces.
I hope and pray that I can be a good mama to my sweet babies and a good wife. I love my sweet family and I’m still in shock sometimes that I’m out of my abuse, my previous life and I have such a beautiful life.
I hate the ways I act like my parents, but I’m doing my best to try to be different and loving and encouraging to my children. It’s so hard to break generational stuff.

I was super inspired by Konmari series on Netflix and decluttered my ENTIRE home, getting rid of 50% of my stuff. It took me like...8 months! My mom died a few years back, when I was 26... she kept EVERYTHING... our first hair trimmings, every art piece from early childhood, any card she had ever gotten, handwritten letters between her and her mom and her best friends from the 70s and 80s. Going through it all was tough. I don't have kids yet but I also am a sentimental hoarder. I wish there was an easy off switch.

I've often divided clutter people into two categories, surface abuser and cupboard abuser, and I am definitely in the second category. You did an amazing job. I find that when my cupboards are properly decluttered and organized, all the other cleaning and daily life tasks become so much easier. I'm so impressed with how you stuck with it, even when it took longer than you expected, but just did one section at time until you were all done! Completing such a big job deserves a treat. I hope you gave yourself a nice indulgence when it was finished.

For spaces like clothes drawers and cleaning cloth/sponge boxes, you might try stacking the things in them vertically instead of horizontally, a la Marie Kondo. That way, you won't have to dig under things and dislodge the tops things to get to the bottom ones (like the sponges to get to the microfiber cloths), and they will all be in sight so you'll be able to see all the pretty things you have at once. Also helps to identify categories of excess or lack.

On the topic of Marie Kondo, she recommends that once you declutter (she says "tidy") an area, and it's sort of bare, that you put a picture or other small decoration there. It makes the area prettier and prevents the empty space from getting full again because there is a nice decoration there.

I’m working on DEcluttering my kitchen spaces while listening to you. It is so energy draining. But enough is enough! So I’m happily listening to you finding it so encouraging. I like to think I was polite in other people’s homes so could never understand why I would be told visiting an Aunties home NOT! to go into her living room cupboard every single time for years. As a teenager and a working girl I was at my Aunties one day when she called me into the washhouse asking me if I would please go into that very cupboard to get something for her. Just as I was about to open the door I heard my mother’s voice again. I told myself it can’t be wrong when Auntie has asked me to. So open the door I did! Only to stumble backwards when an avalanche hit me. It seemed like half of the cupboards contents fell on top of me!
On telling Mum when I got home she simply said. “Why do you think I always told you not to go into that cupboard?’ 😱🤣🤣🤣

Congratulations Remi, you've worked "miracles" in those kitchen drawers and cupboards. Might I suggest that you put the pasta containers on the top shelf and bring the smaller, more-often-used items down to the third shelf down, where you can access them easily. I put all my herbs in one of those smaller Ikea boxes and all the spices in another one. It is easy to grab the box by the "handle" opening and bring them down to your counter and pick out whichever herbs or spices you need. The same goes for the adult medication containers: put them in Ikea boxes that you use like "drawers". Not sure I've explained this clearly but hope it helps. You've done really well. I look forward to seeing the next part of you clearing out your aunt's house to allow your granny to live with her. Your wee boy did a great job helping; children love to help and if you give them wee jobs to do to put their toys away, they'll love the praise.

That is exactly how I declutter my kitchen. I took one cupboard at a time or two to three drawers. It took me almost two weeks (I have a big kitchen). I scrubbed everything as I went along and donated at the thrift shop after every cupboard was cleared out. I didn’t put it in a pile and wait. That’s a recipe for disaster. It’s such a relief to have it all done!

Wow!! The cupboards and drawers look great! I recently started cleaning and rearranging my house including the cupboards and drawers in my kitchen. I thought it would take me a week to 10 days. Nope! Its been 2 weeks and I'm only half done. It is stressful to throw away or donate items. I'm donating a lot of my kitchen items because I don't use them and relatives don't want them. I'm 66 yrs and I've been working on decluttering so my family won't have a mess to go through when I get sick/older. I started to get an overwhelming amount of plants in my house. I love them and they do make me feel good, but I realized at one point I had over 150 house plants. So I've been doing the thing you mentioned - every day I try to get rid of three plants. They have to go OUT of the house, either if they are not healthy they get tipped into the back of the garden, or if they are nice and I have several, I give them to a friend or put them on freecycle on Facebook. I can't bear to do one big declutter but knowing that I HAVE to get rid of three a day has really helped. I will probably stop in the nicer weather when I can put a lot of them outdoors, but at least I won't buy any more knowing how bad it got!
As far as a suggestion, it seems like your shelves are sometimes deeper (higher?) than they need to be, which may be why you are always tempted to pile things on top of other items. I have used small 'add a shelf' metal shelves so that I can store lightweight items in my food pantry, so that I get two or three levels in one shelf. That might help.

Hey Remi, That spinning plate organizer is called a “Lazy Susan” here in North America (poor Susan getting dissed!) I have one on each shelf in Kitchen corner cabinet & on pantry shelf - clear with 3” high sides - so I put condiments that get used together in each one - eg: BBQ Sauce, Ketchup, Squeezy Mustard bottles , flavoured Vinegars etc. and another one has different unopened Fruit spread & Jam jars = backups for ones in fridge - another one has Sealed salad dressings (not in use yet) and so on. And I have an attractive wooden tray one for Center of Dining Table - so everyone can easily reach condiments salt pepper etc. for that meal. Love spinning Lazy Susan’s around! Thanks for your chat with your organizing because I need to hear you think through the why’s & wherefores of how we do things when neurology-divergent! You also make me laugh a lot - which helps when feeling like a failure at getting things & keeping things organized All the best to you & all your wonderful family! ❤😂❤😂❤😂❤

Dear Remi I doubt you will have time to read this but it might give others a bit of hope. It resonated when you mentioned that you can't do anything until the last minute or until the mess is at it's worst. Maybe my issues are not the same but as time passes I'm getting better. I now wash up after a meal, floors get attention regularly etc. I can find a container for my current craft project so it doesn't encroach on the rest of the house. Don't know if it was aging or what but things are definitely getting better. Not perfect but better. So don't beat yourself up and just do your best.

Hey Remi! First I just want to say I have been listening to your videos for months now, and you have changed my way of how I look at house work for the better. I thought to myself maybe I did feel alone. So once I found that out almost every single time I have a huge mountain of clothes to fold, loads of dishes to do, major decluttering, I have a playlist of alllll of your videos and I’ll put it on shuffle and repeat 😂 lol. And I tell people it feels like we are both working at the same pace (you have a chat and then you talk about what you are doing in the videos, so I don’t have to look at the screen. I can keep working and you talk about us drinking tea and spending the time together, 😮 what a wonderful visualization! You talk about rewards until after the work is done, 😮 revolutionary!! So now I find myself doing that for example, I’m not going to answer that text until the dishes are done. I appreciate your long form videos but to me you have plenty of videos and my house is the best it’s been in years and I’m finally staying on top of the chaos and it no longer brings me down. It use to be extremely stressful, but now management on my part is taking over and now I realize once you start and keep exercising that management/chief executive officer(ceo) skill 😉 that mental muscle gets stronger every time you use it. Such an amazing feeling, your channel has given me so much joy/ happiness/ appreciation, like I said I can go on forever, so thank you thank you thank you! Love from the USA 🇺🇸
P.S. Also Remi I feel your on the right track, I don’t think my tips will help because my tips help me lol, the big thing is stay focused on yours and your families “thing”, you’re all learning together. So you just got the kitchen cupboards done, I say just maintain those for awhile until you are ready for the cupboard of doom! Wishing love to all!

Hey, I just cleaned out my little kitchen! It wasn’t that dirty because I’ve not lived here that long but I kept buying the same StApLe food items because I couldn’t find the ones I already had crammed in my cupboards 😂
Oh, also the favourite spoon or favourite fork is one of the things the ADHD community has found many of us have in common. There is some overlap of the criteria that make them our favourites that many of us agree on too!
And also switching between the intense (and sometimes niche) hobbies and interests/collections that can last anywhere from weeks to years is common.
I’m so proud of you for taking this step; the fact that it took you so long to muster up the courage and motivation speaks to how hard it was to do. And I admire your strength to stay positive and draw positive thoughts from accomplishing this.
I also get attached to little memory things like birthday cards etc. because my adhd and depression impacts my brain/memory. I forget what I did, events I went to or time spent with family and friends. I keep a calendar for that reason and as time passes it becomes a diary, and I stick in receipts and tickets or I jot down little notes on what I did, especially on happy days, because re-reading and seeing the tickets etc, my brain usually recovers (some of) the memories. That’s why I struggle to throw away even notes from school, because they contain little doodles from me and my friends and I want to hold on to that now that we’ve not been seeing each other as much for years.
For your kitchen cupboards, I don’t know if this would work for you, but there are metal baskets or additional shelves that you can hook onto the top shelf or the upper wall of the cabinet and it creates a second little shelf to put things on, so you don’t have to stack cans or boxes just to get the full use out of the vertical space. I mean, you could probably also just buy a board cut to size and add another shelf into the cupboard but what I like about the basket things is that they’re removable and also see-through, so you can see what’s inside even if you’re (like me) not tall enough to see the whole shelf.
Your videos always cheer me up. Thank you for letting us step into your home like this.

The result is amazing for each cupboard! You did a great job!
And you are so right about involving kids and using these opportunities to teach them and to bond with them. You are a good mom.

I 100% enjoyed it. I also have a specific fork I use lol. It just feels better in my hand than all the others. The only difference is that everyone in my house makes sure I have that specific fork. Also, I really enjoyed the cleaning cupboard but Mushrooms cupboard was a runner up for sure. Also, hearing Ike being so helpful was just the sweetest thing. Thank you for filming the whole kitchen declutter, I know that has to add quite a bit of time to getting things done. Great Job Remi!

What a delight you are Remi! You have helped me understand a member of the family better and not to pass judgement. I think I have some form of divergence too. Take care and I look forward to catching up with your vlogs. 🥰

I just got a recommendation for your channel today and I’m excited to watch more of your videos! Everything you said makes sense and you have given me the motivation I needed to start decluttering my kitchen - and the rest of my house. I love that it took three weeks and not just a single weekend because I get stuck thinking an entire project has to be done all at once and then I can’t bring myself to start.

On Amazon or the dollar stores, they have little trays. That has helped me organize all of my little bits and stuff. Real cheap, easy to clean, gives items a home to keep the frequently used drawers and shelves. If items have a home, shelves and drawers will not party and get out of hand. 🥰

I love your videos because you are a real person, with a real house. It's easy to relate to you! Also, I admire you because we know it's difficult to mantein a house organized with ADHD and small kids and working, but you can do all of it and also make videos! You are amazing! Hugs from Brazil

The only thing I would have done differently on the cleaning products cabinet next to the laundry, was stack the sponges and clothes half & half side by side, not one over the other. In a hurry, I probably wouldn't leave the sponges tidy if I had to dig under the sponges.
I really enjoy your energy and conversation voice over. The spinning plate is called a lazy-susan in the US. I use it for condiment bottles on my counter. Truly amazing for organization.
Thank you for being so honest and open with us. I am having a bad day, and sitting to have down time with you and your video is helping me relax. ❤ I am ND as well.
