Thank you for watching the video. please support me. Thanks you very much. love everyone.
So, all of that snakey looking design work from the outside was literally just aesthetics, and nothing at all to do with functionality. That's disappointing.
That's Kenwood...
Felt the same, was hoping it was dome sort of folded horn, nope lol.
Was thinking the same thing, I had to rewind it when he put it back together cause I thought I missed something.. Lol
just by the size, if it was a folded horn it wouldn't have any deep bass at all as the horn length is very important
It looks to be a 4th order bandpass so id expect some atleast mediocre sound.
@@robann1971 yep, totally real. He just dug the subwoofer off out of the mud! 😂
When you see open toe sandals and 1982 soldering irons , it’s a legit workshop !!
I have been looking for this Kenwood subwoofer over the years because of the unique shape and it was manufactured in 1994-95. This is made in Singapore Kenwood clear shinny black finished. Didn't know there is a made in Malaysia that is gray or charcoaled finished. The made of Japan electronics on those times are quite expensive and well built. On those times, this is an expensive accessories for my Kenwood mini-component. Those are the last era where the components are in one box not the modular in the 70's and early 80's. So I didn't buy the subwoofer because I am contented of the 3 way speakers. Anyways, I have the privilege to see how this was restored. If the shipment is not expensive. I will buy this one now. Thank you so much !!!. I appreciate what you do.
What is the model name ??
@@dominikdenci204 Modelo SW-05, tenho 1 aqui no Brasil. Otimo SUB

The legendary subwoofer for completed the cd's stereo set in 90s.

Yes, he did sort of fly through on checking the components. I thought he is an electronics whiz or he’s confused. Maybe just putting on a show. You always take your time and make sure the components are disconnected. There can be false readings when you check them still attached to the circuit board.
this was considered a very good budget subwoofer back in the day, it didn't produce a lot of output but due to it's design, had a very good low frequency response and looked pretty cool and output good base in almost any part of the room. I have never seen an SW-05 but I have seen an SW-500 which is the replacement for this in the mid to late 90s which was very similar in desgn.

Reminds me of my first subwoofer, it was a 12" isobaric with paper cones. I didn't have much of an amp to power it but man that thing sounded so good with just an 80W input.
it's shitty for highs?
you know, I would bet you that all this needs is to be mounted to a properly-sized floating surface used as as resonator
Bass not base.
Hello! ♥Sorry to say, but I think you attach the speaker to amplifier wrongway. You must change "plus" and "minus", then air will flows otherwise: from inside to out. And sound will be better!
odevolv tumb a nd 3, seis ndev
Speaker was wired properly. The spade terminals are different size, and he didn't modify the wiring so impossible to wire backwards. What happened was the phase was set to reverse.
Bro, entire video was fake. The subwoofer just got an really dirty layer to feel old and trash... But originally the subwoofer was okay...
bro is that one of those foreign youtube trend sweat shops thats crazy.
Nice restoration! I had one of these back in the 90s. Decent little sub which looked great (always commented on for the aesthetic!). Unfortunately it eventually died after about 25 years of service. RIP, Kenwood subwoofer.
Dakotah, you have been selected for the giveaway session, don't ignore this.

Hi..I want my JVC 5.1 home theater repaired...almost 15 years old...can any one in India repair it with Genuine parts??
Like how all these guys coat thing with mud, then clean it off and we all go wow! 🤭
I hate this kind of videos so much... And i hate more because a lot of people really thinks this are a legitimate video...
Strange to see their is actually rust on plastic parts. I didn't know tplastic could rust. And although the unit looks battered and well used and appears to have been subjected to various weather influences the delicate silk-screen lettering on the unit is soehow in pristine condition. This is not a restoration, this has all the hall-markings of a working product that was in decent nick, that has been deliberatlly been made to look battered en bruised so it could be 'restored'.
of course that's what's going on here. fake.
Wood shavings
Well the the wood inside was subjected to water and dissolved that's a fact you see it in the video! and rust can came from rusting metal parts at the scrapyard, but who cares :)
but this one from MR Electricity do You think its fake to:) ua-cam.com/video/rFKoqjUI_0U/v-deo.html
Thank you. I was wondering why this was titled "restoration" 😂
Thanks for speeding it up. Very enjoyable.
Creatively designed miniature cannon! I think the bass response is somewhere in the 40Hz region.
That is amazing to see I had one of these when they first came out. In my front room I had two large windows and when I turned this on it used to make the windows actually bend and shake.
Back in the day this had quite a powerful punch. It was part of my first surround sound system
Esse video é falso man...
Always wanted one of these when I was young 90s eat your heart out... classic man.......
That horn ain't just folded- its folded, flipped, smothered & covered! 🧇
Great restore, but the speaker seems to be sucking in air which is reverse. If air is not coming out then sound is not coming out, the polarity of the speaker is wrong. This is still a good box restore.
Yeah it's supposed to blow air out
@trucker 9000 he means it's connected wrongly
Either way, it’s a subwoofer. What I heard was was a sub whisper!! Like the commercial of the day, “Wheres the BASS?”
... Wrong. The air vibrates. There's no sucking or blowing. Reversing polarity doesn't change that. Also this is one of the dumbest marketing tricks for an otherwise poorly performing sub.
Are you serious?.... No, you are wrong.
I bought the Dayton SUB-1200 12" 120W it's already plenty to get the cops called. My living room isn't very big so it doesn't take a lot to really get things rumbling. Alongside a Polk Monitor II based surround setup it's a very natural fit to the space. My Onkyo receiver isn't the cheapest model but it's pretty modest and the sub helped a lot with running the power hungry Polks. I used to run a separate amp for my front pair but no longer need to. My home theater isn't my main Hi-Fi setup and bangs hard enough from the receiver. The Dayton is a really great value just because it's cheap and doesn't suck. More serious subs are better but it gives you most of the experience for not a lot of money.
120w... 120? .... 120 ! 😴
@@Mikhail_malar I bought it to fill a space and fill out the sound in my home theater. I also bought it to remove work from my front speakers and receiver which makes them sound much better. I didn't need it to be exceptionally powerful just large enough to move air which it is, and powerful enough to not clip which it is. I can turn it up loud enough to shake the house and generally run it set very low in power. My home theater sounds great and the bass is plenty loud enough. Moves and music sound excellent.
@@geeknproud321 let's talk garlic, it's old, it's better to take a new Sub and not know the problems, the quality is higher, the size is smaller, the bass is more

bro, its fake
Unfortunatelly this video is fake. This guy are clearly taking a good subwoofer, "dirting" them realistically, and after this, came the incredibly skills of the restorator...
Look ah the quality of components inside... All of them are completely CLEAN. and from the outside this looks like the subwoofer was buried underground...
If this are really buried even for a week only, a lot of electronic components will inevitably fail and corrode... ONE DAY BURIED MAKE A HUGE WASTE ON ELECTRONICS...
Nice job, but. Watching you cut the hole in the mdf was BRUTAL.. the way you use a drill really urked me for some reason lol. But yeah good job
He's also using a drill for screws,.. should be a 1/4" impact instead.

WOW. ! you did a very great job, so proud of your work. great video
That's a fake video... For a really dirty exterior, was incredibly clean inside... Just with a little dirty dust... No corrosion, no oxidation... VERY CURIOUS
Looks like a subwoofer HR Giger would create.
Check out the B&W Nautilus (original, not the 800/etc) if you want the ultimate Giger speaker.
Sounds like the party upstairs.
I was expecting the thing to blow out my earbuds. like you said, we got the sound system cranked up inside the house instead!!
Kenwood had a chance to make something really unique with this design. Turns out to be a box in a fancy plastic shell.
It is a tuned band pass box.It may be a 6th order.
@@davidhamm5626 What is it supposed to sound like ? I saw a fancy vacuum cleaner. The bass was abysmal, not much power. Is that all it really does? What is a sixth order tuned band pass. I’m sure the circuits are designed to filter the upper frequencies out. What else?
@@dflo4165 Well, we donot know the size of the room, that he is in.Nor, what he was playing through it.If you play a driver in open air, you will see that.there is little volumn, because the waves cancel each other.Find a cardboard box, as the speaker on one side. play it again. This enforced the sound, and you get volumne. Not all frequencies will be boosted. They are too long for the box. This is where design comes in.Theile and Small started the work. in the fifties.A really good book that explains it very well is, Designing, building, and Testing you own speaker systems, by David B Weems. He has projects, and the math to back it up.
Restoration is actually better than how it was built from Kenwood.

When I saw the picture, I thought that might be interesting. And then in the video I saw this little thing. I hoped it would be at least 1m long...
Also... when you using that hole saw thing for your drill... screw/clamp the board down to the wood, keeping it stationary will cut your time in half... even if you have vise like strength in your hands... the board will still reverberate and cause the drill to bind
Good job 👍👍👍Thank you for sharing. Be safe 🇨🇦

Fun to watch!, but unless this is for some form of family keep sake "for the memories" I can't personally see putting that much into fixing a maybe $50 when it was new sub.
why is the speaker sucking instead of blowing?
In the end it came back home to China where it was supposedly fixed under warranty?? Lmao 🤣😂🤣
cool vid.
i bet h.r giga loved the desighn of this sub woofer
Cool video…just wondering if the speaker was out of phase..seemed to be sucking a lot of air in rather than pushing it out through the bass port?

He should have pressed 'Phase' switch and the cellophane would _blow_ instead of _suck_ .

Why did you swap out the two 6800uf 63v with two 6800uf 50v? Also, what were you trying to measure with meter? The way you were using it didn't make too much sense.
Hit the Phase Button to "Norm", you have it on "Rev". Basically, the woofer is moving in the Reverse motion. Switch it to Normal to push the air out!
doesn't matter much, mainly matters when combined with other speakers that play bass or other subs, but not when playing alone because subwoofers are AC, not DC, so they push both in and out, regardless of phase settings
