  • I know Kinky Curly has a huge cult following, but I am just now getting around to trying this popular hair curly styler. Three years into my curly hair channel, and you are finally going to get my thoughts on this product as a single styler. So I'd love to have you stick around to get the full scoop.

    I’ve experimented a quite a bit with this custard and I find that, for me, I get a much better result when I don’t brush style and I apply it on fairly wet hair. I also use a tiny amount of their Knot Today conditioner, which can be used as a leave in conditioner. I apply that in the shower and scrunch it in very well before glazing with the custard and then scrunching that in. I then micro plop just before diffusing. This seems to create much better clumping and it never feels sticky nor coated. Some JVN oil seems to work well for me with this range. Thanks for posting as this custard is my favourite of all wavy hair time!

      Thanks for sharing with us your tips and tricks! Sometimes I choose to just glaze and scrunch a gel or custard, and other times I decide to brush the gel/custard in. If I don't brush style at some point in my routine though, I typically don't like the way my curls lay as much.

    I have fine hair myself and back in the days I tried the custard as well, didn't like it for my type of hair, but I do imagine the medium to coarser hairtypes might love this. What I didn't like is this (and it's personal of course) : it's very moisturizing, even with a very little amount. Sounds nice may be, but when fine hair starts to clump and get dry, hair can still look a bit 'wet' .... hairs in the clumps are so 'glued' together that the clumps stay so small/thin. I love my hair to have a bit of air in between the hairs of the clump to get a more voluminous outcome, otherwise it can look a bit 'droopy' so easily. (if that makes sense ;) )

      Thank you for sharing your experience. Definitely the thickness (fine, med, and course) and density of a person's hair will have an impact on how products work. I find it interesting because for the most part my hair is fine, but I loved how it performed for curls. 😊 Thanks again!

      Your comment helps me a lot because my waves tend to look stringy, wet and droopy with products that have lots of moisture. I know it’s asking a lot but I prefer bouncy, airy, yet defined curls and waves. 🥰

      @TriciaGrace I was wondering if use or would consider using a hairspray. I love it because it can lend to volume and provide extra hold without weighing down fine curls.

      @@lifeoffinecurls I use hairspray on my dry hair, but not how you show in the video. However, after seeing your video, I might experiment using your technique. Thank you for sharing! 🤗

    How many days did you get out of this wash n go? It looks like you could have went 5 to 6 days.

      My curls could probably hold up 5 to 6 days, but my scalp prefers I wash by Day 4, so I have only gone to 4 days.

    I have that in my stash for a long time😆 I haven't tried it yet. You said you didn't use a leave-in? I like to keep things as simple as possible, I'm just leary about one and done stylers. Although it seems to work well for your hair. I use hairspray too when I used a light hold gel.

    • @lifeoffinecurls
      @lifeoffinecurls  4 місяці тому +1

      I would suggest going with your instincts on what your hair needs the first time you try it. That's what I did, and I loved my results. If you don't like how it turns out the first try, then play around with it a bit (with a leave-in or without, with hairspray or without, etc). I didn't use a leave-in because my curls are fine and don't always need a lot of moisture, and in my opinion, this custard is moisturizing.
      Lol, you're not the only person who sits on products a long time in their stash. 😄

      If you like a leave in, try the Kinky Curly “knot Today” conditioner which can be used as a leave in. I have fairly fine hair but I get a better result with the Kinky Curly gel when I use about a 5 pence piece sized amount of Knot Today on very wet hair (if you are not in the UK you will need to Google the equivalent!).

    LOVED YOUR 2nd day RESULTS 😍 I remember this was a fan favorite b4 all these natural hair products came out. I never tried it I felt the price point was a little high, also more of a hard holding gel…. Which I’m more of a soft hold gel kinda girl 🥰 I can’t really use hairspray, it really dries my curls out n my hair becomes really tangled. I find that the Garnier Curl Spray gel works great. Since u stated it’s more of a med hold gel I think I might add it to the list, because I’m sure I will add a leave in underneath it. Well thanks for sharing 🥰🥰🥰

      The cast you can get from this custard initially could lead one to feel like it may be more hard hold, but I found once I SOTC it really seemed to soften up. If you get it, I hope it works! 😃

    hi Jodi, thank you for the review on this product 🙏 question: what’s the difference between a gel and a custard? asking for a friend 😁

    • @lifeoffinecurls
      @lifeoffinecurls  4 місяці тому +1

      A custard's texture is similar to a gel, but a custard tends to be more moisturizing. They are typically made from nourishing ingredients like oils and butters. They help tame frizz while adding shine to your curls. 🙂

      That's a good question. I used to love the scent of the Hask Curl Care line, but lately I haven't enjoyed it nearly as much. Currently I enjoy most of the Curlsmith scents (their different lines), and I do really like the smell of Miche products. Those are the ones that are coming to me off the top of my head.
