Thank you for checking out Life Of Fine Curls.
I've been a curly girl all my life, but it wasn't until the pandemic hit that I really started "exploring" my curly hair. I would love to have you join me in my curly hair journey. This channel focuses on product reviews and recommendations as well as styling tips and techniques. My other passions include my adorable little Elmo (a mixed breed rescue dog), and baking, which I like to incorporate occasionally as well.

FIRST IMPRESSION | Soultanicals Manestay Hen-Tonite Clay Treatment | I've been keeping a secret!
This week I am looking at a hair treatment that is different form anything that I've featured on my channel to this point. Soultanical's Manestay Hen-Tonite Clay Treatment is a henna and bentonite mix that is supposed to emphasis your natural hair color by bringing out dimension and shine. I'd love to have you join me for this review to see what my first impression thoughts are.

My HONEST Thoughts on Curlsmith's NEW Volume Recipes Stylers
never heard of clay treatments before ☺️ that’s how new l am to looking after hair in a proper manner, lots to learn yet, but thank to channels like yours is making the experience easier and fun…
Glad you enjoy the content 😃. I don't have too much experience with clay treatments, but the pumpkin one I mentioned in the video, I feel helps to reset my hair when it has been acting out of sorts.
I've never used a clay treatment in my routine. Not sure I would use it, but it seems interesting.
I don't have too much experience with them myself, but I do feel like they kind of help reset my hair.
Be careful. I'm a natural red head. I've use henna for years. I'm finally growing my natural out. Real henna is drying on the hair. It's very permanent. Hope it works out.
Interesting! I really won't be using this on a very regular basis at all, so I don't think that would be too big of a concern for dry hair (and that could even be a benefit for me in the summer). As far as coloring concerns with henna, I was concerned, but I saw no issues with only using it only once.
Thank you for sharing this! It was nice to sort of have a second look at the stylers, and how they worked more individually.
I'm so glad you found this helpful! 😃
Hey there Jody! Always appreciate you trying out these products, and I would have to agree with your assessment. Although, I thought the gel made your under side gave some really good spirals. As far as the wonky pieces, sometimes I think it's time for a cut. As you said, can't see paying that much for something that's not going to last more than a day.
As always, thank you for watching! I agree that a trim may have helped. A couple of weeks after recording this I actually did get about 1 inch trimmed off. 🙂
Beautiful 🎉
Thanks, but this wasn't one of my favorite washday results.
@@lifeoffinecurls i know you didn't like it. But, it came out so nice🙂
Great review! I think I'm going with the verb ghost deep conditioner. Thank you!
I'm glad you found the review helpful!
are the prices that appear on screen for travel size packages?
No, those prices are for the full size. Sorry, I should have clarified that.
@ 😊 l wonder how big the full size bottles are… the results are good, your hair looks amazing all the time!
What ibused for shampoo and conditioner are both 12oz full size. The Spiral lotion is 8 oz, and the Pattern Pusha is 16oz.
I look forward to more of your thoughts on the stylers later.
😃
Your curls look amazing! I tried Curl Junkie many years ago, but I can barely remember how they performed. I didn't repurchase so they can't have been that great. I have wavy hair, though, and need a strong hold.
I definitely have some further thoughts on the stylers that I will share in my video on Tues. 🙂
I will be sharing the Part 2 featuring the stylers on Tuesday! 😃
Could you tell me the brand of your favorite hair spray? Do you apply it to wet or dry hair?
I prefer a dry (finishing) aerosol hairspray, over a wet (working) spray every time. My favorite brand is TRESemmé Extra Hold hairspray. I only use it on dry hair. It is affordable, and it gives fine hair a little grit for volume and hold.
Too true!!!
Thankfully, I do feel like the vibrant fall colors were extended a little bit more this year, but it's always sad to see them go.
Your Curly Girl products are wonderful! I got all three custards and the spray and like them all! The hard and extreme hold I need to use a leave-in or cream under, but the soft hold is good on its own. I am not a fan of any of the Evolvh products I've tried (including Wonderbalm), but your hair has a tighter curl than mine. The Rizos Curls foam is one of my favorites! The Pattern and Bread foams are pretty good as well.
Oh wow 😃, you've tried a lot of the stuff I haven't. It's good to hear other's thoughts and experiences. I've heard a lot of good things about the Rizos foam as well.
I’d be very interested to see miribel naturals, especially because there’s so little about them online
I agree, I don't see much about them online. Thanks for your input. 😊
I have wavy hair but found the curl shampoo and conditioner from Evolvh way too drying. I have a pretty oily scalp but strangely enough the moisture line works much better for me. Have you tried The Mane Choice? I love their pink lemonade line! I'm looking forward to seeing you try out these new products next year. 😊
That's strange that the Evolvh curl line would be drying. Often times curl lines from brands focus on moisture. I'll try to keep that in mind if I do end up purchasing from that brand. Yes, I have tried the MC Pink Lemonade line. I'm pretty sure it was in the minter or early spring of 2023. I think it was okay, but I wasn't overly impressed (it's been a while though). Thanks for watching! 😀
@@lifeoffinecurls Yeah, definitely get the Evolvh travel sizes so that you can test them out. Maybe my hair is just weird. 😆
I have a trial size of Bread gel and I liked it.
I didn't realize Bread had trial sizes?!?
@ I got it in a curls monthly subscription
@kathyskurls That makes sense.
Those are some really good choices. Looking forward to seeing how they work out for you.
Well, I probably won't get to all of those in 2025, but they are definitely my top contenders. Now it's in the timing and sales.
lots of brands to experiment with 😊
Yes! I probably won't get to all of these because I will also have some other curly hair content series that I will be rotating with these.
@ l have been buying lots of products drugstore mostly, but l don’t know if they go bad! next year l will try not to buy more but use the ones l already have 😊 always looking forward to your content! very informative… thank you for taking of your time to share with us! 🙏
I have some drugstore products that have been on my shelf for 3-4 years. Some of them have kind of separated a bit, but most of them are still good. But everyone's comfort level on that is different.
Really looking forward to your reviews of Innersense and Boucleme as some of their stylers (Innersense I create curl memory and Boucleme gel in the yellow bottle) belong to my favourite products! A bit pricey but definitely worth it 😊➰
Thank you for sharing what you would like to see and what you personally like! 😃
These are good products, interested in Rizo Curls, I have Adowa’s leave in melon berry, want to try the gel, love Pattern but only use the curl gel and mousse, cream is too heavy for my hair, looking forward to your reviews. Thanks for sharing
Thanks so much for sharing some of your thoughts and experiences. If you don't mind my asking, I am curious what your hair is like. How fine or course is it, and what do you think your porosity is? That helps me gauge a little on how products that work for you, may or may not work for me.
@ sure no problem, my hair is very fine in the front section, coarser in the back section with high porosity. I’m just learning how to select products and styling technique on this curly journey.
I have a travel size of the Pattern leave in that's supposed to be the bomb. Great slip and makes your hair very soft, but more than a very small amount would be too heavy for my short fine low density hair. I'm going to play around with tiny amounts and see if I can get it right. I will say you get a lot of product for a travel/sample size so this should last me forever.
I can't believe I forgot to put Curl Keeper on my list to try!
I understand that Mielle has had some issues recently. I probably won't be purchasing from them in the near future due to that. I will continue to use the products I already have, but I'm not convinced there will be much interest in new products from them for a while. Unfortunately, the issues arose just after I recorded this.
Definitely want to try Rizos Curls next year… Curlmix is at Ulta?! Yes Adjowa (not sure spelling) yes I have never tried but on my list . Love Pattern Beauty there mousse is my fav.
Thank you for sharing what you're looking forward to. And yes, Curlmix is online at Ulta. I'm not sure if they are in store though.
I live in florida are fall is not 90. The morning are nice in the 66.
Oh wow! Our summer wasn't exceptionally hot this year, but I don't really enjoy the 90s very much.
Good luck with the new camera!
Thank you! It's been a lot of fun playing around with it.
😂
Hey there Jody! Congrats on getting a new camera! I thought I can see the difference. Fall is our favorite time of year too and summer is our least favorite. We do not like the heat & humidity. We just bought one of those portable air conditioners, so we'll be all set when next summer comes. I'm nearly 60 years young. Yikes! 😆 Like you, I'm very much an introvert. The only time I will put on a full face makeup is on Sunday, for church. On other days, I us just so a tinted moisturizer and lipstick, if I'm going out. Talking about confidence, have you seen the episode of the Drew Berrymore Show, when she had Pamela Sue Anderson & Valerie Bertinelli? (I don't know if you know who they are. You're probably too young) None of them were wearing makeup. That made me started rethinking about not wearing makeup on Sundays. I know the Lord loves me with makeup. I'll probably just go with my tinted moisturizer and a light lip color. I feel like I've been set free! I don't watch talk shows, but I just seen this on UA-cam. You show really check it out!
I always love hearing from you; it seems like we have a lot in common 😊! When I filmed this video with my new camera I had it had it on the auto settings, and I like that, but I can make very few adjustments on that settings. So, in a few upcoming videos, I cange things up a bit. I just filmed my stash video, and I think I'm finally getting a better feel for what I like. Good for you rocking your confidence with or without make 😃! Some days I honestly love playing around with makeup and other days I can't be bothered. I've tried tinted moisturizer, but I can only use it in the cooler months. Otherwise, the oils (and sweat) from my skin just break it down way too fast. I remember Valerie Bartinelli from Touched by an Angel. My family and I used to love watching that show.
@lifeoffinecurls oops, I meant yo say that, I know the Lord loves me with or without makeup...
Lol, I figured out what you meant. 😄
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
😊
lol!
😄 I heard the audio a while ago, and knew exactly what I wanted to use it for.
This was a great review! I really liked that they were both affordable.
I'm so glad you enjoyed it! Anytime I do affordable products it seems to be pretty popular. 🙂
The hask does look better. I'll have to get mine out!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts! What do you like to pair your Hask curl cream with?
Hey Jody! I have to agree with your assessment, the Hask side seemed to be a bit better than the NYM side. One another note, now I know you have tried tons of stuff. If you seen my latest stories on IG, I did a WNSL, on damp hair, using It's a 10 mousse, and I think I found my new favorite mousse. Have you tried it yet?
I haven't tried any It's A 10 products. I see their leave-in or cream often, but I don't ever remember seeing a mousse 🤔. I should take a closer look at what all that brand carries. I know it kind of pricey.
@@lifeoffinecurls There are pricey for mine liking, too. If you don't see them at Marshalls or TJ Maxx, I will otherwise get them at my CVS, only because I'm an Extracare card member & get lots of coupons & savings. If you're not a paying member, which is only $48/year & you'll get $10 coupon every month, besides all the other savings offers they give you. I get almost all my beauty & health stuff there.
@@simplycurlyde I've never been much of one to shop at CVS. I've heard they have good coupons. But between doing my regular shopping at Walmart, Kroger and Aldi, I don't know that I want to make another store as part of my regular routine. But thanks for letting me know! 😃
I would love to hear your thoughts on this side by side test. Do you like one side better? Or have ypu tried either of these creams, and of so what is your experience?
What towel are you using???? Or is it a robe?
I use an extra large cotton t-shirt. 🙂
You have the BEST hair!!
Thank you, but trust me, it has its days. 😏
IMO opinion all you need is a cleanser, conditioner and a gel is a must to produce a cast(whether it’s a soft or hard cast)
Yes, that is a very great simple routine. I honestly love the mixing and switching a variety of products, so I enjoy trying two and sometimes tree stlyers. There are many, though, that need more moisture than what most gels can give. So a leave-in conditioner or a cream is necessary for their hair needs. Then there are some with extremely fine low density hair, that a gel just makes their hair look weighed down; so they prefer to use a mousse or foam instead.
My opinion is getting a cast is important because “if it don’t cast it won’t last”.
I cast is great, and I love getting one. If that's what works for you keep it up! Looser curl patterns can especially benefit from getting a cast. I have made some softer products (no cast) work for my hair, and I can make them last longer by using hairspray.
I purchased this line at DG. Each product was only $5, so they have went down in price some.
That's good to know. I don't feel like much has gone down in price these days. 😃
Your hair looks good and I was kinda surprised it didn't feel drier. If I use this mousse for too many wash days in a row my hair gets REALLY dry. I would be curious if you like the mousse and hairspray combo by itself. I saw a comment about Marc Anthony. I recently bought the flaxseed gel and would be curious what your thoughts are on it. GREAT VIDEO, as always!
That's interesting that the mousse makes your hair dry using it multiple times in a row. You're the second person to want to see the mousse and hairspray combo, so it looks like I'll be doing that. I did a Marc Anthony Strictly Curls review of the cream and mousse last year, but they didn't have the flaxseed gel at the time. Is it something new, or has my store just not been carrying it? I probably won't review thar gel anytime soon though.
@@lifeoffinecurls I believe it is new. SwavyCurlyCourtney reviewed it recently and I found it in Amazon. Personally my hair hated it, I was just curious what you thought.
Thank you for sharing this affordable curly hair routine.
I hope it was helpful, and thank you for watching! 😊
Tressame are good products to me. I have used them for years. Your hair looks great, even second day.👍🌹
Thank you for watching. I'd love to know which products are your favorite from TRESemmé.
I love this series. Not bad for cheap products. I was wondering how the mousse will do as a single styler. I have the cream & mousse in my stash. I've tried the gel, I think for my hair, it'll work best as the top styler, after micro plopping. Have you tried Marc Anthony line? The have a flaxseed gel.
@@simplycurlyde I’ll have to check out the Marc Anthony line. I have so many products in my cupboard - I don’t know if I should be using a single line or mixing and matching different brands. I do love TreLuxe and I own a LOT of Curlsmith.
@@joelyisdoingherbest 😆 you're not alone. I have a lot of products too that are waiting to be tried.
It's always good to hear your thoughts and experiences with products. I have tried Marc Anthony's Strictly Curls stlyers, but only the cream and mousse. They didn't have a gel at my store. I did the review last year, and I'll leave it linked here. ua-cam.com/video/Ws2HlGvz57A/v-deo.html
@joelyisdoingherbest I mix and match my brands very often. If you watch some of my Chat With Me episodes share a lot of that mixing and matching process. Also, in 2025, I plan to have a new series where my husband picts my products, and I'm sure there will be some mixing and matching there too.
@@lifeoffinecurls great! Thx for the link.
Thanks for this information! Your hair is beautiful ! It’s nice to find the less expensive options. Do you ever apply product while in the shower? Your hair looked wet but not as wet as it would be soaking wet from the shower. I’m still trying to figure out what works best for my curls!
😆 you're not alone. I think we've all been there. It's been 4 years since I started this journey and I still haven't figured out what works well for my hair. I think I'm getting close though.
I'm glad you enjoyed the video. I generally like to style on very wet hair, but I've never done it in the shower. One, I don't want to hang out in the shower that long. Two, it may be a little too wet for my preference (which can cut down on hold and concentration of products). And three, I like to style in front of a mirror. I keep a continuous mist spray bottle by my side when styling, and you may not always see it, but my hair is very wet. The top part of my robe is soaked, and my hair is one stage shy of dripping. Every curly has different preferences and needs when deciding how wet to style. Some prefer more damp, which can give more hold and concentration to your products, but for some people, it can cause more stringy looking curls. Others, like myself, like to style on very wet hair to encourage bigger juicier curl clumps to form. And some like to style on dripping wet hair (in the shower) for Curl clumps, less product concentration, and maybe convenience. If you have very fine, easily weighed down hair, this might be a good option. Sorry for such a long-winded response 😁, but it's best to just play around with these different methods and see which you like best.
@@lifeoffinecurls thank you for your help!
I think it would be fun if you did a video where you showed us your product stash. 😀 I think Pacifica may have rebranded some products. The banana shampoo and conditioner sound like what they used to call their Salty Waves line. I really like those products although I primarily use them when I leave my hair straight. You should definitely give Evolvh a try. I have wavy hair but didn't really like their curly hair shampoo and conditioner. Strangely enough the moisture shampoo and conditioner work much better for my hair. I have a pretty oily scalp and normally avoid moisturizing shampoo but that one seems to give a much deeper clean.
Yes, I do plan to show my product stash in Dec 😄. There will be multiple videos because I want to reorganize it based on product categories. And thank you for your recommendations for the Evolvh brand. I do have a whole video dedicated to what I want to try in 2025, and that video will be coming out in early November.
@@lifeoffinecurls Sounds like you've got some good videos coming up. 😀
Thanks for reviewing this. It looks like a really good one.

Thank you! I totally recommend this one. 😄
That's how I like to do my messy bun too! I remember you did a video on hairstyles and that's when I started wearing that messy bun and it's so simple to do.
Yes! In one of my recent videos (I think my CWM) I mentioned my messy bun, and someone said they would like to see a short/reel on it. So I thought, "why not?" It's an easy video to make.
This was helpful. Thanks!
Great! Thanks for watching.
