  • I use 3 different types of common foam to build this Verlinden Studios-inspired diorama. Base, cobblestone road, and bridge are all made from foam. Full build tutorial.

    Very nice build,it looks nearly identical to the former Matchbox 1/76 Sherman Firefly with its little Bridge diorama... The same kit is now sold under the revell brand.

    I used the cheap white styrofoam to make a cobbled road, but not the way you would expect. I used it as the base of a mold into which I poured plaster. When the plaster had set, it had the pattern of the styrofoam in reverse which was perfect.

    Very nice job and tutorial use of different foams for those of us scared to spend the time and experiment or just don’t have the time and wonder how they work. I like your pragmatic and comfortable attitude to enjoy the hobby instead of anxiety about what you do. Have fun and build models, don’t just collect them (UNS)!

      Thank you so much! I really do wish for everyone to take so much pressure off themselves and just have fun. Not every kit has to be the best you ever made. Thanks for watching.

    Add white glue to your celluclay mix. Prevents any shrinkage, cracking,and helps adhesion.

    excellent travail, juste une remarque,la pose des pavés sur une route se font dans le sens de la largeur mais ce n'est qu'un détail. Bravo pour ton tuto.

    Floral foam is pretty evil stuff tbh. It's designed to be wet and when it's dry it crumbles into dust. It can also react really badly to anything with a solvent in, glue, paints, etc and release noxious gasses. It's great to see it tested but it's not a suitable hobby material when we have XPS foam instead.

    As someone who is scrolling through videos on how to make a brick/stone road for my diorama, I am kind of bummed out you didn't say the size of the bricks on your road. It looks like 1/2cm by 1/2cm ?

      I actually get most building supplies from big box home stores, Michael's (craft store) and Amazon. Then, for kits and paints I try to support online hobby shops whenever I can even though shipping is usually awful but we gotta save the mom and pop hobby shops if we can!

    i've been wanting to try doing some water effects for a while, any tips so it doesnt get messy?

    • @mattockmodels
      @mattockmodels  2 роки тому

      I actually didn't show it leak through the tape and then having to add many, many more layers! But the water effects I used this time are super forgiving. When I do resin pours I put an old baking sheet under everything and use hot glue and acrylic to seal the gaps. I have also found that UV resin is great to patch holes in a hurry!

    I've always wanted to get into this sort of thing but there's so much working with foam, and the texture and sound foam makes just sets me off so bad and I just can't stand it, it's a really interesting hobby but working with foam so often would really ruin it for me.

      I've used chip board in the past to recreate bricks and other structures. I'll try and use it again in a video soon so you can see that process.
