    I have learned my lesson on how to grow Cattleya Orchids. After many failed attempts I found a Cattleya at work. She was beautiful but no name. Someone told me she may be BLC Alma Kee. I finally got the light, temperature, feeding to come together and she bloomed for me always in December. I went and devided her and that was the demise of my little orchid. Next time I have a Cattleya orchid she will be upsized to a larger pot. Oh well lesson learned.

    I just recently bought a Better Gro Cattleya a few weeks ago and saw these little growths from the leaves. Thanks to this video I now know it is a flower spike! So exciting, this is the second cattleya I've had. The first one died because I over watered it and had no idea what I was doing. Thanks to your videos I've learned so much about orchids and how to care for them. Thank you!

    Great, informative video with information that is generally hard to find on the internet, but since you have so many orchids to observe, your conclusions are quite helpful. PLEASE discuss cutting a Cattleya rhizome to encourage multiple directions of growth. I have quite a few Cattleyas that are getting big, with only one direction of growth. Thanks!

    Hi Danny. I wish I had seen this video before I killed my last batch of cattleyas. Thanks so much for explaining it so well. I now keep them outdoors in filtered sun as I live in the tropics. They seem to like this set up as I'm seeing new leaves. Greetings from the southern Caribbean 😎

    Hi Danny, thank you for doing an episode about this topic. There was so much I was wondering about. One of my orchids, which happens to be a red NoID Cattleya so I do suspect Sophronitis in its parentage, is putting out buds without a sheath. I see two buds clearly forming. And it just finished flowering. I also have a miniature Sophronitis-cross and now I know what to look for. Cattleya's have so much differences in between them. Not only flowerwise but also pseudobulbwise. So I'm really happy you have shared your thoughts on this topic. Thank you.

    Hi Danny, thank you for explaining about different Cattleya's. I have 1 no name, has not bloomed too small. This tells me that it is one of the smaller Cattleya species. I am not even sure I will buy any, will see how this one does first it is growing new leaves and roots, looks healthy and happy. I had a problem this year with root rot on my Phals but I seem to have it under control now. So far this season the only orchids that seem to love it here is Paphs, Oncidiums and the Cattleya no problems with them just the Phals.

    I have what I think is an epicattelaya and it hasn’t bloomed yet for me. I know what the flowers look like because my husband took a picture of the part of the plant that was blooming above it when he brought it home. I checked my dried sheaths a few weeks ago a d nothing. Today however I give a look and noticed two of the dried sheaths have spikes starting to come from them. I am battling thrips right now so I hope they survive to bloom, but we shall see.

    I've noticed, that even the very same orchid may show multiple pattern in blooming habit. I have evidenced, that plants derived from the same mother plant (by divisions) may form sheaths or produce buds without them. Hence I assume, that besides the genotype, the environment (light, moisture) has a crucial effect on this characteristics. Once I increased the intensity of illumination, the plant started to produce sheaths.

    Dani, I’m new to Cattleya’s. For the Cattleya’s that do produce buds from a sheath, is it normal for the sheath to grow/come out flat? Will the sheath grow flat/empty and then fill up with buds on the inside? Or does the buds grow/come out at the same time that the sheath does? I hope that makes sense. I have a new Cattleya with 3 empty sheaths and I don’t know if they will produce buds or not.

    • @MissOrchidGirl
      @MissOrchidGirl  5 років тому +3

      Hi, sheaths will be flat most of the times and empty. When buds will form they will swell a bit where they meet the pseudobulb :)

      I will say,just grow it in moss for some months,that It obtaine some nice roots in moss,and wait for new growth ,and when that new growth mature,and when it started to create new root,then repot it in self watering,franchis fox creates root when a growth is 70 to 80 % mature....so I think you have to wait a little bit,and don't let moss dry ....
