    I love this series! I'm a newer grower with only 1 year of experience & I've been binge watching your past videos for 4 weeks now, ever since I found your channel :) My favourite videos are the educational ones like this one, care tips, fertilizer tips, tips on how to increase humidity, how to sterilize your equipment & repot orchids, etc. Please do more of this series & educational videos in general. You are an amazing teacher.

    Hello, I love your channel. I have some of the classic cattleya which I just divided after about 15 years. I used the outer shells of dried coconuts as the "pot" and they've all sprung roots already... so excited. They love our climate and I have them hanging facing eastern direction. But I love your variety. I live in the Caribbean by the way. Keep up the good work.

    Thanks, Danny! Loved this type of video. I wonder if you'd mind making a similar video introducing the differences among Cattleya (Laelia), Epidendrum, and Encyclia? I know by googling and wiki that they all belong to sort of Cattleya. But I still would love to learn a few things about their possible differences (look, culture, flowers... etc.) from your unique viewpoints. Thanks again!

    i love cattleya's , the very first roots i've seen growing in my care happened with a cattleya and i'm so excited. The other thing is i noticed about catts is that they are very hardy , a lot of my orchids took time to adapt or sulked and they didn't , amazing !

      So true.
      I got a few complex hybrid Cattleyas and some roots are constantly in active growth. As long as they get alot of light and medium warmth, they grow and grow.

    Love this series and I need that red catt

    • @familhagaudir8561
      @familhagaudir8561 5 років тому

      That shade of red is amasing!
      It's difficult finding the exact hybrid, here is some help for red Cattleyas :
      True reds are quite common in the mini and compact size Cattlianthe intergeneric hybrids. Flower size vary from small to medium. Scent often lacks in those hybrids because Cattleya coccinea, the plant used to give the best true red, is not fragrant. There are so many hybrids with quality red flowers it is pointless to send you looking for a specific one and often no ID red crosses are sold at orchid shows and shops.
      There is one classic red medium size Cattleya : Cattlianthe Jewel Box. It is easy to grow, vigorous and fragrant. Well grown plants bloom twice a year. The cross is old but of such quality it is still comercialized. Best red clones are "Dark Waters" and "Scheherazade".
      For big flowers, true red is alot less common. Check Cattleya Oconee, Cattleya Sanyang Ruby, Cattleya Chia Lin, etc. (Those are vigorous growers. Real name of the genera is Rhyncholaeliocattleya. ) There are many different selected clones of various shades of (close to ) red, pink or purple, so it is best you buy it in bloom so you know the color pleases you.
      The shade of these big flowers is not as intensely red as the smaller Cattleyas, but they smell amasing and, well, huge flowers.

    I really want one again. I used to have a red one that smelled like nutmeg - loved it! But it just died off suddenly after years of re-blooming. Now I moved to a different apartment and it gets pretty cold during the winter - hopefully they still make it (I know you said they can handle it but "cold" is relative haha)

    Love your videos!! I have a question about water. When I saw your video on hard water leaving dark spots on roots, it was an A HA moment! My phals that I've had for a while have brown roots, now I know why. They start out fresh and green but get a brown tinge to them after a while. Anyway, does a water filter pitcher, I won't say brand names LOL, help with removing minerals? Should I used that type of filter or do I need one that is more intense? thanks!

    Hey Dani, I've been into orchids for a while, but i've struggled to find a medium that suits me and my environment. I mostly have phalanopsis orchids, and i've recently come across the bare root hanging method that is often used with vanda orchids. I've looked everywhere for some research but cant find any. I really want to try that out with my phalanopsis, do you have any experience, tips or advice for me?

    Dear Denni! Not related question - but it keeps bugging me (may be I missed a video you explained that) - since most of your orchids are in semi-hydroponics AND they are not in a clear-plastic pots- how do you know when to water them? Or - you have a schedule and water them "every tuesday"? Thank you!!!

    Is it a thrips I see crawling swiftly on the Cattleya flower you touched, at 6:22 ?
    Those tiny devils reproduce like mad and damage buds and blooms when laying eggs inside the tissues and feeding.

    Will you make video about paphiopedilum, I cannot find video about paph that tell how to know condition of paph by it leaves. I only see video about nutrient deficiency on popular orchid like Phals, Dendrobiums, and Cattleyas, but no paph at all, BTW this is endangered species of orchid, I want to know how to cross/pollinate them, one more thing how do i deal with ANT POOP problem on base of paph leaves?

    Hey Danni! As always thank you for your amazing and informational videos. I really liked this new section you are doing and would like to give you some feedback.
    I find that for some of us in your audience will be more helpful for tips and info as such, that be presented by you.
    I realize that this may be a big step for you, but I find that your hand gestures are both very distracting and also helpful in a sense that the information you provide it’s more credible. For other videos your hand gestures aren’t necessary in the frame as it becomes a distraction and takes the attention to your hand moving.
    In my experience, a person that uses hands gestures in conjunction with their facial features are more credible and it’s easier for an audience to interact with.
    I hope you find my two cents useful and keep up the good work! We (my daughter and I) love learning more about orchids from someone as knowledgeable as you!

    • @MissOrchidGirl
      @MissOrchidGirl  6 років тому +1

      Hi, thanks for the feedback and glad to hear you enjoy my videos :) but I'm affraid I will have to dissapoint you, I will never be 'in frame', as my private life is more important than anything. I am just a youtuber with a passion for orchids and video making, that's all. For expert advice only turn to the experts, AOS is a great place to start ;) no face = hand gestures and just how not everyone likes your face, not everyone will like hand gestures.. what to do :)))) have fun and keep growing!

    Cattleya is not common in the stores anymore. It’s rare to find it in the stores here in California. I just bought me one one ebay.

    • @familhagaudir8561
      @familhagaudir8561 5 років тому

      Yeah sadly stores prefer to stock Phalaenopsis for their 2 months+ lasting flowers and Oncidium-alliance intergenerics, blooming for 6 weeks.
      Cattleyas often wilt or bud-blast from transport, so retailers rarely risk stocking them.
      So if you prefer to see what you buy, your best luck is orchid shows or going straight to the producers if they do "open greenhouse" days.
      Oh also, orchid societies usually make group orders. You can get less common orchids at a much lower price that way.

    • @familhagaudir8561
      @familhagaudir8561 5 років тому

      It is probably very warm in your climate. If you use clay pots, add some sphagnum moss in your bark mix so it dosen't dry too fast.
      But if you like watering very often, pure bark in clay is fine.
