Rest in peace 🕊️ Geordie Walker. Absolute legend, unique and incomparable.
😢
Absolutamente único. Nadie suena como él.
Brighter than a thousand suns is one of the best albums of all time in my opinion, its a timeless masterpiece from start to finish... and only the cool kids know about it.
Verdade (true)...
Didn’t like it at all at the time. Thought they were cashing in. Think very differently now. Took the style of the day and made it darker and more atmospheric with some wonderful touches in it. Unmistakably KJ. Shame they don’t like playing it. Up their with their best.
@@hoppers6899 good musicians move on and so should their fans. Their style has changed over the years and this doesn't fit in with their current sound. As much as I like this style better they probably got tired of performing it.
Yep, "Brighter than a Thousand Suns" is for sure a timeless piece of work from lost times when everything was better, easier and less stressful... And only we, the cool kids, knew about it...
My first Killing Joke album and definitely my favorite.
Geordie passed over today the 26th November 2023. His amazing guitar sound will continue to resonate into the future.
One of the most atmospheric songs of the 80's.....
It is BEAUTIFUL!
Along with mission UK wasteland and chameleons UK swamp thing
From one of the most atmospheric albums of the 80s
@@Shade571 debatable
Mission UK - God's own medicine
Chameleons UK - Strange Times
The Church - Heyday + Starfish
Or ever.
Jaz' voice sounds so beautiful on this one.
That big dark guitar underneath the verses. Doom itself.
The 12' featured it alone, gave it the respect it deserved and it was glorious.
And the dark bass line also
They are so doomy. Good call.
It's actually hard for me to listen to them too much, cuz its' so brooding.
@@adam69ify R.I.P. Paul Raven one of the best
RIP, Geordie. KJ forever.
RIP Geordie. One of his best IMO. Haven’t been able to stop listening to dude play since I first heard him.
I think this was the best era for Killing Joke, Mid 80's
RIP Geordie, forever in our hearts!
RIP Geordie. Legends never die.
Read your comment just as Jaz sang "With the thoughts of loved ones in our hearts". What a hero, an absolute one-off.
I think all eras of Killing Joke has a place one thing is for sure their message has always been solid, their music honest and Geordie is a freaking awesome guitarist ...
Sono d'accordo con te ma Geordie è partito per un viaggio senza ritorno😢🎸
R.I.P. Geordie Walker.
One of the greats of Guitar. Glorious work and guitar tone with Killing Joke.
that break at 2:15 is just incredible. I know KJ hardcores prefer to look down on this era, but this song is epic. The guitar is like a distortion of time against the rest of the beat, but menacing at the same time - the way it all bleeds together is just sublime.
Couldn't Agree more
Gives me chills
a distortion of time against the rest of the beat, what a great way of putting it.
killing joke is an underrated group
@@gwenaelbourriaud6954 I wouldn't say underrated they just never wanted that fame well maybe they did for like 3 years in the 80s but after love like blood they kinda said F that. Glad they stayed that band. Ever notice when bands get big they change and never really in a good way
This is just another reason why I miss the 80's. Damn we had some good music.
This band has such a great sound.
Check out Shriekback's "Oil and Gold".
I hated that they changed there first two sounds after Extremities Dirt Various Emotions.
I loved the post punk industrial rock and the second new wave sound. I can’t say I love the 3rd sound. Never cared for Industrial Metal stuff. But that’s just me. I’m a sucker for 1980s music I guess.
Im 40 and remember this tape being in all my freinds cars! I grew up in Rochester Hills Mi and we were into ALL this misic...Echo, The Smiths, Aztec Camera, OLD REAL REM, Haircut 100, Jesus and the Mary Chain, New Order...you name it we had it. Prefab Sprout, the list goes on...
I guess you're 50 now
@Imix Muan No way. Haircut 100 were great.
@Imix Muan yeah, good taste! Joy Division gotta be one of the greatest groups ever. Along with The Fall. Though I do love Haircut 100, they kinda ripped off Orange Juice. (The Scottish crew who pretty much invented Indie Pop.) ua-cam.com/video/RmpNSpzx2wI/v-deo.html
The perfect type of friends
2:15 to 2:45 is a pure eargasm
Magic. Here in original length. In later mixes it’s cut to half and Jaz’s words at the start is taken away. Hard to find a good motive.
R.I.P Kevin ' Geordie ' Walker for whom there could never have been the ' Killing Joke ' and I doubt there will never be again. ❤
Always and forever, thank you to Great Britain and the British people whose creativity, since the 1960s, has given the rest of the World hundreds of unique bands such as the Killing Joke and music of unparalleled beauty, quirkiness and atmosphere. What would our lives have been without British bands? Thank you from Sicily.
@daniel seddon daniel seddon, yes, but there is a but. If just the European Union machine hadn't existed and each European country could have kept growing at its own pace and on its own path! Instead look at the big mess the European Union has made of old and beautiful Europe!
The Killing Joke's "Europe" actually says it all:
ua-cam.com/video/gy92Ypkpn6I/v-deo.html
"What have they done? What are they doing?"
@daniel seddon daniel seddon, spot on! The European Union Bureaucratic Machine doesn't represent the different peoples of Europe. How could it ever? There are so many differences among us!
Great Britain has been a crucially important country for the rest of the European countries and the entire World for centuries and it's impossible to imagine our Planet without such a unique and very special country. Europe and the World do need a Britain which is strong and inspiring, as it has always been so far. The Brexit Process does look like a messy and impossible quagmire but I wish that once out of it all, the British People and Great Britain will have found a new fruitful future.
From my heart I send you all the very best wishes.
@Dan Seddon Not in music thoe 😂
Grazie. We love Sicilia. I hope we return again. I am from West Yorkshire ♥
What a great comment. Well said.
We'll remember distant times and places...
RIP Geordie Walker.
R.I.P Raven
KJ could record a new album with this sound and it would be the freshest release in years and years.
One of the best guitarist ever. Unspeakable tragic loss
I do not know why this was not a hit...the beat is relentless...
Killing Joke is the greatest band of all time.
Criminally underrated album from the mighty KJ, pure dark and atmospheric melancholy... ‘Chessboards’ and ‘Twilight Of The Mortals’ are some other great tracks from BTATS!
2:16.....incredible
Their greatest amongst their superb material. So much emotion on this record; dark, beautiful and timeless. Very powerful.
Brighter's arguably the best "dark rock" albums ever made. Nuthin' else like it, that's original.
The evolution of this band is just exceptional!
So influential and criminally underrated.....
We'll miss you more than words can say Geordie
majestic! wish they went back to this sound, each song was an atmospheric masterpiece in which the music was able to breathe
Geordie excellent guitarist
R.I.P. Geordie…you will forever be missed !
R.I.P.....GEORDIE😞
Great song - Miss the days when this was popular. Whatever happened to the 80s? It was this revolution in music and then it seems like by about 1989 it all fizzled. It was as though there was some shift in consciousness in the music industry about 1982 that lasted till 1988. Wish this type of music was still being produced. Oh well at least the old stuff is still available.
Grunge happened.
Exactly. Grunge killed alternative and postpunk music.
There's surprising mount of goth/drkwavwe stuff going on in Eastern Europe.
This song almost makes me feel like im in a silent movie! This record is so good that some people shouldn't be allowed to hear it because if you have to have it explained to you. ur never gonna get it!!
Underappreciated genius.
Geordie is a God!!
Quality song from one of the greatest band's to come out of Britain, flawless, still love them after 30 years
Im obsessed with this video, I recently hear killing joke for the first time, and now I have to say its one of the best bands Ive heard.... I only like 80s music, its a shame new bands dont make music like this
This song takes me back to the 80’s, taking the train into the city (Chicago) with my best friend to go to the club.
NEO 🦇🎶🦇
Una banda que EXPLORABA la música como pocos.
Oh
A rare departure for KJ. It's almost gentle and nostalgic. Melancholy.
The underrated pop trilogy of Killing Joke which had Night Time, Brighter Then A thousand Suns and Outside The Gate from 1985-1989. Although Outside The Gate gets a lot of hate and so did this album. But I love this album so much.
What a shame most of the world will never hear this again...
I truely Am in love with their music
I put this awesome on my playlist "Dark Kingdom"!
I like Killing Joke in all flavour soft or hard , but always serious .
Me too, it's the Killing Joke's Sounds of Eigties with Raven, Geordie, Ferguson and Coleman
OgreTheGreenGuy I like the fact that every album is so bloody different.
Great profile picture
This song makes you feel something magical. Amazing Musicianship-Talent that came together to make great music, I just keep listening to it over and over.
Damn I love me some Killing Joke, even their average songs...you can always rely on the rhythm section absolutely killing it.
The master on the guitar and the rest off course is great
RIP Paul
Sanity....San sanity..........WOoOOooohooooooooo
Hearing this song for the "first time" a few years ago made me realize I faintly recall this song from my childhood as a 10-11 year old. Love the atmosphere to this tune (and video).
I love this period.
For me this album is their best too - just because of the great compositions.
The magic with these guys is powerful.
Wow, what a beautiful song,.... this is my kind of Killing Joke.
Timeless altern band.. college years listening to the local college station playing nothing but avant bands- Gang of Four, Aztec Camera, Costello, Xymox, Cocteau Twins, China Crisis, Smiths and so on and so on.. Blessed to have grown up during that time.. the music today is trash..
This track is epic.
I love Killing Joke so much! This track is in my top 5 favorite KJ tracks! I will never get tired of it.
Such an amazing track.
2020 and still powerful.
Rip Geordie walker. Godly guitar tone. Thanks for the tunes.
Mystical and mesmerizing. Also beautiful art video, brooding and hallucinant. KJ is a force of nature and Jaz Coleman a multi gifted visionair. Period.
I'm impressed with this album Brighter than a thousand suns. It has an epic 80's psychedelic sound.
Have you ever tried "Night Time", the predecessing album...?
@@KFC1948 , not really but I will. Thanks 4 the heads up.
Excelente grupo... Gracias por venir a Perú!... Ahora si, a morir en paz
I understand why some people hate this period, but I like everything they make so I’m a bad judge.
rotov80 same from fans of my favorite band rush. It was the 80s and even though it sounds very 80s they both stood out while sounding 80s. It’s not the shit you want to play around anyone else cause they’d laugh and mention the 80s sound but I can appreciate bands that made their own sound. No matter what decade they’re in they’re sounding organic
Imagine if all this music was what our kids could listen to right now only.
Solitude breeds leadership. This song speaks so many volumes to me...
RIP RAVEN + GEORDIE
LONG LIVE KILLING JOKE!!??
One of the best songs.
One of the bands (this album especially) that inspired me as a musician my band and my solo music. Found out later they were adored by bigs like Metallica and Foo Fighters. This album, "Brighter than a Thousand Suns" I thought was different from their other stuff and was my favorite.
Anyone feel that this song is PERFECT for what the whole world is going through at the moment? All too busy remembering what we've lost until the final part lifts us up..."So let the sunrise..."
Killing Joke is pretty perfect for a lot of the changes we are experiencing - a lot is open to interpretation. I got really into them in the last few years. Over fifteen albums I find the same basic message regarding the duality of man and his capacity for creative change. In short, if we believe in apocalypse we might just get it but if we believe a golden age can come than perhaps it can.
I still have the tape... played it a TON!
Just one of their masterpieces....
really love the sound. .great european atmospheres. .
Simone Di Ottavio I’d known or owned all their work up to “ nightime “. On hearing they had new album I asked my sonic youth fan music guru if he’d heard the new KJ album “ yeah - it sounds like fucking AHA “ was his exact words. I wasn’t deterred cos actually liked “take on me “ & “ stay on these roads “ ( wouldn’t share that at the time ) and to this day consider “ adorations” and “ in Cythera “ to be as “ beautiful a ‘pop ‘ song as any bugger could write. Found Pylon bit ‘ samey ‘ - glad Morton’s’ voice has lasted as well as Jazs’ best wishes from wessexshire
@@newforestpixie5297 :) they changed their sound at that point..i know i love their first albums..whats this for was the first i ve ever heard..someone don't like this change but with the time you appreciate that great sounds and atmospheres that Geordie whit his guitar and the band create..thanks Man best wishes
This was a GREAT record.
They are the best
Totally underrated song and album
Jaz looks like Michael from the Lost Boys here.
Love all the Killing Joke catalogue: but I keep coming back to this period of their evolution.
The 🎹 is subtle but genius !
No band comes close to the music or lyrical genius of jazz
Way back but still hold up even in 2022. These guys blow me away. Fan forever.🤘☠
Back for the daily dose
They paved way to another music genre ahead of time call DOOM METAL/STONERROCK. Glad I saw them opening up for TOOL recently before the pandemic shutdown.
@may301985 I'm the same way.. I was born in 87. And 80s music is pretty much all I listen to. I feel like I really don't belong in this century.
always Killing Joke!
My favorite Killing Joke song and one of my favorite songs, period.
This song is excellent
RIP Raven...
RIP Geordie - you were the greatest guitar play ever x
Incrível!!! Sublime e absolutamente inspirador. Killing Joke é de outro mundo. Rock no mais alto nível possivel.
Concordo com vc. Conheci tardiamente a discografia do Killing Joke e realmente me impressionou.
masterpiece
One of the most beautiful unheard song
BACK TO THE 80s !!! AMAZING !! : )
Had this ..cassette tape and listened it constantly on college. Was in love with this song/album/band. Think I made a video to it for a film class
0:34 looks like Rambo !
Great song from an underrated album!
Liiike. Ciao 👍 53 anni ( luce) , Roma. Ho avidamente comprato questo Lp, a 19 anni. Non ho mai osato tentare 1/2 accordi, roba ruspante, atroce. Ora, desolato, a tavola, ecc
. lo strumento Squier, sempre, a vista ampli , delay, chorus, ho il piacere di suonare, brani che + ++ tendenti ad infinito, terminologia di Astrofisica. Con affetto.
