My mom saw them when she was pregnant with me at lollapalooza '91. All her punk friends made a circle around her so she could dance in the pit without anyone bumping into her belly.
My wife and I weren't married yet, so my kid can only say we were there. She does get to claim me as a 9/11 survivor though, which was not nearly as fun as Lollapalooza "91.
Your parents, they had to have caught the first Warped Tour as well, amirite? Did they take you?
Isadora Savage That’s a lame story and you’re a lame millennial

Cool
Scott Elton Bradford That was hilarious.
I love how Siouxsie is just this mesmerizingly wild, spooky, carnival person yet it looks like 5 minutes ago, she pulled these two clean-cut guys from the street to join her band.
And then you hear those guitar and drum lines and go, yeah, those guys are as crazy as her. :)
@@HolyRollerTV As in, crazy good.

I never met my mother and father bcuz they died in a car accident but i found out from her best friend that she was obsessed with this band and everyone told her she looked just like siouxsie
This band makes me feel connected to my mother in so many levels even tho i never had the chance to meet her...i feel very blessed for having the chance to feel what she felt listening to these masterpieces
I am so sorry for your great losses.
My father passed away last year at the age of ninety five. I miss him, and wish that we could still be together. I, also, use
music, the music we shared, to draw
close to him. Again, I am sorry for
your losing both of your parents at such
a young age. You seem like a good person who has done well in life, despite
what you were missing. God Bless you!
That’s a really cool connection, they’re there dancing with you!
Just absolutely may God bless and look after you, this brilliant band have saved me ❤❤❤
That's tragic. I realise this sounds empty but I'm sorry for your loss. Take care of yourself. They would want you to have a full life.
Thanks so much for your very moving and personal post. Great song I bought at the time but now thanks to you it’s taken on a much more special and important value. Stu X

Siouxsie was already something of an influencer even before she took to the stage. Her look, makeup and clothes were completely original. Her band and stage presence was truly magnificent, top musicans that gave us a sound never heard before or since...
Every goth chick since the 80s is emulating her, and most now don't even know who she islol
@@chaoticneutral6288 I don't know, I was there, in that scene and am pretty sure her and Betty Paige were huge style influences

Well you’ve clearly not listened to all the albums this sound influenced - such as Disintegration by The Cure.
The Cure have been around for a very long time. Pornography released in ‘77.
@@deletebilderberg Influenced??? Robert Smith PLAYED guitar for Siouxsie. Search for NOCTURNE here on the tubes.
It’s amazing really. She had zero singing lessons or experience in music. She just did it and it worked regardless.
Thats what punk was all about, it didnt matter if you knew how to sing or play an instrument. You just got up and did it yourself and saw if it worked out or not.

Exactement bravo
This album is so underrated, the drums are great, Budgie never repeats patterns, super creative drummer.
I agree that Budgie is a great drummer, but his patterns do repeat. They repeat, but very minimally... and then they morph into new patterns which is a very creative way to play. It keeps your attention but you don't lose the vibe of the song.

This is a freaking sinister masterpiece!!! Her doubled-vocals haunting "wow" gives me the chills!
100% agree. Early 1980 featured lots of songs with this atmospheric sound: A Forest by The Cure, Mirror In The Bathroom by The Beat, Echo Beach by Martha & The Muffins, Can't Help Myself by Flowers/Icehouse, I Got You by Split Endz, Underpass by John Foxx, etc.

its house of balloons, surprised lol
the song he played was house of balloons/glass table girls though that song heavily samples and interpolates lyrics from this song
I was honestly so happy to hear something older from him. I love all the music he puts out, however, the older, the better. Just my opinion.

As someone suffering from Agoraphobia after having my son, and literally being afraid to just leave my house, this song resonates with me greatly, expressing how we unreasonably believe our house is the only safe place, but we’re pretty much stuck here due to our own fears, and justify our fears by falsely thinking our house is the only safe and happy place in the world, when in reality, it’s trapping us and suffocating us.

Same! I literally came here to say the same thing! It's one of my absolute fave songs of the post-punk era, and on listening to this again for the first time in years (I had the LP, who knows where that is now), I realised that proto-breakbeat is really just awesome. That's Budgie, who became Siouxsie's partner. The whole thing is just perfection - the lyric, Siouxsie's vocal (of course), John McGeoch's poignant lead guitar (why he isn't in the video...), and Steve Severin with that great bassline. All fabulous.
Yes! Back in da days I was a punk drummer, but this guy is doing somethin absolutly not easy, and tight like steel! Great.

Music is an emotional outlet, the best music is born of sadness, anger, fear, profoundly negative emotions. If you're happy, you're just happy, but if you have a lot of bad emotions, you have to do something with them and art is the best medicine. Happy songs are shite lol.

Drumming is amazing - love the syncopation.
The off-beat snare and squoze hi-hat makes it.....
Pure genius.....!!
Budgie is one of the greatest drummers around.
From Wiki:
In 2013, Spin rated him at No. 28 in their list of "The 100 Greatest Drummers of Alternative Music", writing: "Post-punk introduced a lot of amazing drummers, but none more influential than Budgie. With the Banshees, Budgie didn't just play rhythms-he played hooks and leads, brilliant parts that set the songs on fire. His tom-tom-intensive approach, [was] enlightened by his awareness of world music".Spin considered his "most booming moment" to be "Into the Light", from 1981's Juju, saying: "Budgie drums up a marvel of kinetic syncopation and invention".
Defo influenced Reni’s drumming
Budgies the man... Married Siouxsie too which I consider an impossible feat...
Before breakbeat existed -amazing. Budgie was into polyrhythms etc, and this was really a much better take on a "reggaeish" vibe than so many non-Jamaican musicians who attempted it. So, imagine in some alternate universe, instead of sampling the Amen Break ad infinitum, if somehow Budgie's beats became the basis of DnB

This is the happy house, we're happy here in the happy house
Oh, it's such fun, fun, fun
We've come to play in the happy house
And waste a day in the happy house, it never rains, never rains
We've come to scream in the happy house
We're in a dream in the happy house
We're all quite sane, sane, sane
This is the happy house-we're happy here
There's room for you if you say "I do"
But don't say no or you'll have to go
We've done no wrong with our blinkers on
It's safe and calm if you sing along, sing along, sing along
This is the happy house, we're happy here in the happy house
To forget ourselves and pretend all's well
There is no hell

...the way of playing the drums that shocked me ... when I was +/- 18 years old... Thank you Budgie...Thank Siouxie ande Banshees (Mario .... Como - Italy)
My dad had a thing about Siouxsie and I remember him playing this song a lot when I was very young (born in 78) I was so happy to hear it in Last Night in Soho, perfect song for the film.
We all had a thing for Siouxsie at that time.
@@VincentRE79 first time I heard this was in '81. Had no idea what she looked like, still had a thing for her
Playing this on bass is sm fun
So great when that snare kicks in. The 80's were freaking great.
The Weeknd just used some of this song tonight in his performance at The Super Bowl- hopefully it will draw more people to Siouxsie xo
It actually was his own song house of balloons and he sampled this iconic part but yes hope that more people hear both
