I just bought a gen3 SP. The CP3 engine is absolutely brilliant. I put a steering damper on mine, much to most of the forums dismay. But for me it tightens up the front end a bit as its very light and now it still agile but a bit more compliant and surefooted.
seems a great machine, and i wouldn't rule out getting one in future, but i just don't like coloured wheels, IMHO they look tasteless and gimmicy. when i sat on a bike in a showroom with some last year, the wife who knows less about motorbikes than i do laughed, said i needed to act my age (60's), and asked me if i really wanted to be seen on something coloured like a kids toy. i assume the colour is an option as i like the turquoise flash on the tank, but suppose at the end of the day it's a matter of taste.

There's a small crew where I live with thirty bikes between them. Passionate lot. One of the bikes is an MT07 and none of us ride it, not one. We all think the engine's great, but the handling and riding position just don't work together. It's never ridden and just sits there. That said, I need to try the MT09, great review.
A couple of observations from your review, there have been a number of engine component changes as well as the frame has been tweaked to add strength of flex where required. The front visor isn’t standard and neither are the tank protectors. I have a SP on order. My only gripe with the bike is the use of the rubber brake lines, even on the SP.
Nice review Mark, did you happen to ask Crescent if they remapped it for the full exhaust? I ask because the fuelling sounds excellent at low revs and small throttle openings.

Gorgeous bike. Studying in slow speed the swingarm and frame et al look very high quality to me. Too much tech for me but pricing spot on. Great review as always also enjoying ebike reviews

the lively front end is part of why i didn't like mine. (2021 gen). now on a '23 Hayabusa the front end is solid as ever. Night and day differences lol. Like i get people like wheelies, but i want the front wheel of the deathtrap im riding to at least feel like it's going to stay pointing straight and on the ground. The way you jiggled the handlebars around at 14:18 gave me memories of mine and how i could jiggle the bars at high speed. just felt unnerving. interesting that the new model is still an MT09 at heart lol.

You mentioned there is no engine heat even when you wait at the long traffic lights? The other one is can you tour with this bike because I am really considering to buy this bike but can I really use it for long distance touring? Thank you!
Hi I didn't notice any heat even when stopped....you could tour on this it's comfortable...but it would get a bit tiring and windy after a while...a tracer 9 would probably be a better bet for long distance Cheers mark
I have a 2019 mt09sp. I think it might be time to update it. But the standard model or the sp is the question. The sp will be over 20K Australian which is the price of a street triple rs. The standard model is over 2k cheaper. Worth the extra $? It was worth it buying the sp in 2020, but I also bought it on sale as the gen 3 were about to arrive.
Nice review Mark. Is the throttle snatchy on the MT-09? I have a 2002 ZRX1200R and love the smooth on/off throttle characteristics, of course it is a carbureted engine. I also have a 2023 ZX6R and the throttle can be a bit snatchy if I'm not careful with the inputs, but overall I love that bike's fueling/throttle response as well.
@@markpulling12 That's great to hear. I know a flash and tune can resolve a lot of fueling/throttle issues, but I prefer not to have to do that whenever possible. I had an MT-07 and really loved the character of that bike's engine. I think I would probably love this inline triple's as well. Gotta test ride one and find out.

Test rode one yesterday and have bought it in the same colour (Cyan) that Mark had. Really fun bike which has a superb engine and handles very well. Could have gone for the SP version, but for an average rider like me, the standard bike is more than adequate.
@@markpulling12 The SP for a heavier rider (> 80 kgs plus riding gear) who loves spirited riding up and down some serious mountain passes (in the French, Swiss, Austrian and Italian Alps) as well as attending track days in the fast group - my recommendation 😊✌️🔥

it's a great spec alright, but i'd say that the new 750 hornet at roughly £3k less with performance not too dissimilar is better value. asking nicely gets you a sports pack including QS thrown in foc, all personal choice of course, but i could do a lot with that kind of saving. GL
Yeah I'll pick my 2020 z900 over this all day every day. I'm sure it rides amazing but I don't need all the extra tech and honestly that styling is not for me. Still think the z900 is one of the better looking nakeds on the market even though I do agree it BADLY needs a refresh to stay relevant in this segment.
I ride a 2023 Z900 SE, which has a look that I like. I don't like the tiny headlights found on so many other bikes, though I'm sure they are great in other ways.

@@Motoxlight No, I decided to wait until next year and see what the situation looks like then. I have a Gen 3 SP so I’m not overly anxious to get the upgraded gen 4 version. The new bike would only be sitting in the garage all winter as I have a winter commuter, I get about on in bad weather.

Great review as always, as another Speed T 1050RS owner (new from 2018), i would value your thoughts on reasons to own this (or maybe the MT-09SP) instead of the 1050RS and reasons not to swap. In considering something a little lighter and more maneuverable at low speeds i have tried the 765RS and the new Speed T 1200, however my heart is still so much in love with the 1050RS. For reference i also have an ADV350.

Yes I had the same thought to swap my 1050 rs for the mt09 one day but tbh it would just be a change for change sake rather than anything else....I know the mt09 feels and is a little lighter but every time I ride the 1050 the engine is just as good as the yam ....so for now I'll keep my triumph....maybe in a few years if it develops problems...the mt09 will definitely be bought:) Cheers mark

Not better just different but more torque.....id say both equal in build quality....both incredible machines

The valve service is at 24k miles on the MT09 which is a big bonus. Triumph prices for that job are eye watering.
What tune have you done after installing that full exhaust

The Hornet should be a lot cheaper being its a 750 twin. Nice bike but not in the same league.
Agree with you. I wonder how much a manufacturer really costs a quickshifter and a cruise control to add to a bike, I think its a bargain for them.
