A job well done Sam, it cleaned up real nice and should solve his water issues in front of the garage, the driveway stone looks great as well, be well my friend.
Lots of times if you cut on both sides of the trench with a spade and then slide your bucket under the grass it’ll pick it up in one solid piece as long as you leave some dirt on it. I did a French drain the other day too but I had tons of wires to cross and had to end up hand digging. Think last count was 14 wires of various things, electric, cable. Now just need some rain to see if mine works. Last nights rain wasn’t too good of a test. Amen Sam. See you in October in Louisville if you’ll be at the trade show again.
Yeah that would help to cut it for sure. Wow, sounds like you had some big time challenges with all those wires!🥵 I’m thinking about going to Louisville in October.
The nice thing is when you do your message you make it simple to understand can you get on a lot of these pastors that are on UA-cam and you can't understand what they're saying they make things more difficult and they don't make it clear you're making everything clear and understandable keep up the good work God bless and take care

That’s what I’ve been using for underwater splices. Heat shrink, then rubber tape, cover it with liquid and if I want extra protection a layer of regular tape. Your work and demeanor caught my eye on the first video. Then your open message made me stay. I became intrigued when I found out you left the chicken farm for an excavator. Now I pray with you that those that need to hear about Jesus will see your channel. Was ordained as a Deacon almost a year ago. How time flies.

Hey Sam job came out great not sure if you know but compression fittings are perfectly acceptable for the repair you did on the water line also they make electrical repair kits for buried electrical lines don’t ask me how I know 😂😂😂been down the same road as you you with unknown utilities have a great weekend can’t wait for the next video
Hey Patrick thanks for that info! Wasn’t sure if burying those compression fittings was a proper thing to do. I didn’t know about the electrical repair kits either. Where would I get one of those? Thanks, Sam
@@tristardiggin Hey Sam any electrical supply should have them if not you just tell them that you need to repair a buried electrical and they be able to put something together for you I have made my own with liquid electrical tape shrink tube
I was a plumber for a long time and the rain or shine glue is a little more expensive but works everytime! Even when you get a little water in the joint!
To make life wasier when pulling a slab try cutting twice on each seam. Once strainght up and down and one angled slightly inward toward the piece to be removed. That will eliminate pinching when removing and make reinstallation easier too Eta: when you have a short piece of pipe to fit in like that glue the bell end first because it has to slip in deeper than the coupling end. Its not much but a little less struggle to get it slipped in there
I had my doubts about the slab but hey it turned out fine : ) Can you eventually make a video to see how the french drain performs when it rains? Appreciate it!
Hi Sam…I’ve really enjoyed your videos the past few months and have learned so much, not just about digging! I have a question that came to mind as I was watching this video after watching a video you did about a year ago on repairing some roads and ditches at a church camp facility. The question I have as a new guy is why do most driveway builds/re-builds get a fabric layer under the rock while the roads don’t? I’m thinking it may be due to the fact that it’s just not cost effective for a bigger road but thought I’d ask in case there is something I’m missing. I’m just getting started in this business and trying to soak it all in…thanks again!
Justin I appreciate you watching and supporting the channel. It’s cool to know the videos are helping you along the way. I generally only use fabric on roads/driveways where the dirt base is soft or stays wet during parts of the year. If I have a strong dirt base I don’t see the need in putting fabric down. Also I like to put down a rock base using 1.5” to 2” rock. After that I will put down crusher run (which packs better) or 57’s. You will always want to use crusher run on driveways/roads that have a steeper grade because it’s pack downs and holds better. Some people use fabric on pretty much everything, but I don’t. Just when I know it’s needed. Hope that helps some…
In the future, if you have to move a piece of concrete and replace it, you can use a can of spray foam to put under the piece and lock it and the edge in place and have structure. something to keep in mind.
Man thats some pretty finish work! Last time i had to french drain under a sidewalk i punched a "10 casing under it, but that was with only one "4 pipe going through it
They poured that sidewalk when concrete was cheap! Pallet forks would have worked well for lifting that segment. I use my tractor pallet forks for all kinds of weird stuff. Like moving a refrigerator today. Saved a lot of heavy lifting.
Yeah he was telling what he paid for his sidewalks and driveway and it was dirt cheap compared to today’s prices. I thought about taking the pallet forks but didn’t get it down there…
We pull sections out of municipal sidewalks all the time to run fiber and honestly sometimes we have a tough time getting them to break up. We never put them back. Pin and repour. Too many liabilities on public sidewalks.
Hitting that water line is luck like I have. I had to dig in my yard and was worried about hitting my water line from the meter to the house. My brother came over and with 2 metal coat hangers he "witched" the water line and while he was at it was able to find my septic tank too. I don't know how it works, but it works.
September 6th, it was a treacle (molasses) day for me, too 😬🤦♂️ nothing was going straightforward ! Great to see your videos getting plenty of views, just goes to prove The Lord moves in mysterious ways !
Hey Sam, I’ve been watching for quite a while now and I’m thinking of picking up a 2019 Cat 304e cr from a dealer a few hours from me, it is fully enclosed, has a thumb and has just around 1000 hours on it with tracks that have 250 hours on them. They are asking $45,000 out the door and where I’m located (Northern California) it’s hard to find a clean one with low miles for around that price and for me to rent a machine of that size is about 4-500 a day which is half the payment on this 304e cr I’m looking at. Do you have any comments or tips about that machine? Maybe what to look out for? Also what year is your 304?
Kenny that sounds like a good machine and a good price. A new one would probably be in the 70k range. Mine was around 69k and that was several years ago. As long as there’s no structural damage and the pins and bushings aren’t worn out it will be a great machine. You could also ask for any oil analysis reports and any work reports through CAT that has been done to it. But overall 1000hrs is nothing for an excavator. I think mine is a 2020 or maybe 2021. They also will probably offer extended warranty on it too. You are right about buying instead of renting. I look at it like an occasional rent is ok but when you have consistent work every month it’s better to buy one. Wish you well on it… Same
You know went you cover up a wires in aa ditch you neeed to put tape in the ditch about 6 inches from top so if someone else dig there they know they're is wires there to look out for😊
LoL it never fails phone lines and waterlines Internet lines it never fails your going to get one of them but what gets me is they will come out and mark them and you can be two feet away and still hit them they will come out oh it must have moved LoL so I feel your pain
It’s not good useing the pipe with holes in it because the dirt go’s through it and clogs it up the core gated pipe is the very best pipe for any drainage system
In this situation it has fabric on 3 sides and rock on top so not sure where that dirt would come from. But if not properly installed I can see what you’re saying could happen… Thanks, Sam
@@tristardiggin yeah the direct burial has the coating throughout and no paper inside. Much tougher to strip or puncture since it's not just a hollow sleeve around the wires
@@markhutchinson2952 Yeah, unfortunately on this one the locate company doesn’t and can’t find water lines on the customers side of the meter. But in this case it was a well system and those can’t be located either…
@@tristardiggin yea you guys do things differently than we do here in Australia. I am a service locator and I would have pushed the GPR over the excavation site to attempt to find the water lines.
All glory to God, thanks brother. Romans 12:4-8 For as in one body we have many members, and the members do not all have the same function, so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another. Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith; if service, in our serving; the one who teaches, in his teaching; the one who exhorts, in his exhortation; the one who contributes, in generosity; the one who leads, with zeal; the one who does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness.

Eta: when you have a short piece of pipe to fit in like that glue the bell end first because it has to slip in deeper than the coupling end. Its not much but a little less struggle to get it slipped in there
Hey thanks for the info that would probably work well on both ideas…
Sam
Loved the video I'm considering a career in heavy equipment if I don't ever get into the railroad
Thank you Michael! If the railroad is your desire I hope you get it. Equipment operator is a pretty cool job too…
Great video my friend!
Thank you Gary! 😀
Just found your channel love it
Thank you Reginald I appreciate that and welcome to the channel. Just make yourself at home…👍😀
Good job on handling that slab without breaking! Message reaching out there Sam good job!!!
Thanks Nathan! I thought I broke it a few times when I dropped it. Pretty cool to see how the message is reaching out…
I had my doubts about the slab but hey it turned out fine : ) Can you eventually make a video to see how the french drain performs when it rains? Appreciate it!
I had my doubts too! 🤣🤣🤣
I will see about going back to see how it’s working. We sure need some rain around here in a bad way…
Thanks
Thank you 😊
Thanks for supporting the channel Terry!
😀
And the award goes to Diesel! For best supporting dog influencer😂
Hey that’s a great idea but he will get the big head and expect steaks for supper! 🤣🤣🤣
Hi Sam, better late than never, busy here.
Oh yeah! 😀👍
Hope that helps some…
Thanks, I appreciate you taking the time to explain this.
In the future, if you have to move a piece of concrete and replace it, you can use a can of spray foam to put under the piece and lock it and the edge in place and have structure. something to keep in mind.
Thanks for the info and that would work great…😀
I have used Liquid Electric Tape. it works good for issues where you can't get the shrink wrap on a wire.
Hey that’s good info! I didn’t know there was such a thing as that. I guess you get it at Lowe’s or Home Depot?
@@tristardiggin yes in the area of the wire nuts and stuff.
Nice! Thanks…
Man thats some pretty finish work! Last time i had to french drain under a sidewalk i punched a "10 casing under it, but that was with only one "4 pipe going through it
Thanks Quinton! 😀 Pushing a 10” casing through was a good idea.👍 I will have to remember that one…
I thought about taking the pallet forks but didn’t get it down there…
N95 Bandana. Good to go.
Now that’s funny right there!🤣🤣🤣
I told you before the tilt rotator is a game changer you'll never go back I wouldn't know what to do now without it
Yeah that thing would be cool to have for sure! 😀
Sam you have to lop them old Mack's over Hard in order to get in real trouble
Thanks Brian that is good to know. I get a little more comfortable with it each time I use it.
We pull sections out of municipal sidewalks all the time to run fiber and honestly sometimes we have a tough time getting them to break up. We never put them back. Pin and repour. Too many liabilities on public sidewalks.
Yeah I’m sure it’s a liability nightmare on public property for sure.
Thanks,
Sam
Mighty dry in your neck of the woods. Same here in central Virginia.
Hey Jeff, it is dry as a bone here for sure. Hope we all get some rain soon…
Thanks,
Sam
Tighter areas are sometimes fun because they add a challenge or to try something different
No doubt Jim! This was a tough one for sure…
@tristardiggin you'll gain knowledge so that's a good thing
@@jimjennings1970 yes it is! 😀
As my old grand daddy used say, "close only counts with horseshoes and hand grenades LOL!
Yup, sounds right and I sure got close on this one…🥵😳
Hitting that water line is luck like I have. I had to dig in my yard and was worried about hitting my water line from the meter to the house. My brother came over and with 2 metal coat hangers he "witched" the water line and while he was at it was able to find my septic tank too. I don't know how it works, but it works.
Yeah just seems to happen a lot.🤣 I’ve seen folks use the metal rods and I’ve tried it too. But didn’t have much success with it.
Thanks
September 6th, it was a treacle (molasses) day for me, too 😬🤦♂️ nothing was going straightforward !
Great to see your videos getting plenty of views, just goes to prove The Lord moves in mysterious ways !
Well Alex it sounds like we both had a difficult day! 🥵
Yes He does work in mysterious ways.
Thanks and God Bless
Well now the homeowner knows where his water line is😂😂😂
Oh yeah that is for sure! 🤣🤣🤣
Wish you well on it…
Same
Amen Sam
Thank you Jason! 😀
Keep a set of brass rods on your truck to find those lines.
I definitely should have tried that! 😀
God's working through you! Praise the Lord! Christ is king!
@@keithmortensen1187 Thank you Keith, I appreciate that!
God Bless
Try drilling hole in concrete insert anchor with lifting eye and lift concrete up and out
That would probably work good…
Howdy Sam
👍✋🏻
You know went you cover up a wires in aa ditch you neeed to put tape in the ditch about 6 inches from top so if someone else dig there they know they're is wires there to look out for😊
Thanks Joey and that a good idea. They will hit rocks and pipe before they get into that line again…😀😀😀
That is a thick sidewalk... heck... concrete blades on a chain saw are good for these deep cuts
Yeah that’s what I was thinking too. It was thick! Concrete blade on a chainsaw would be handy…
Thanks
Also tip to make that concrete level the first time. Screet it with a bit of timber makes it level
I saw and drill concrete for a living. As long as that rebar is cut the slab should have popped first whatcha with the ex. Good work though 🤘🏽
Yeah concrete definitely isn’t my specialty.🤣 Just glad I didn’t break it…
Thanks,
Sam
Amen ,God is good all the time! Ive always said if God can use a donkey to get the job done he can surely use me!!! thanks for the videos. God bless.
Hey Matt that is exactly right! Amen…
🤣🤣🤣

Are those old Mazda, and or Nissan pickup trucks?
Yes, one was a Mazda and the other was a Nissan.
LoL it never fails phone lines and waterlines Internet lines it never fails your going to get one of them but what gets me is they will come out and mark them and you can be two feet away and still hit them they will come out oh it must have moved LoL so I feel your pain
Hey Cliff the pain is real for sure! 🤣🤣🤣
It’s not good useing the pipe with holes in it because the dirt go’s through it and clogs it up the core gated pipe is the very best pipe for any drainage system
In this situation it has fabric on 3 sides and rock on top so not sure where that dirt would come from. But if not properly installed I can see what you’re saying could happen…
Thanks,
Sam
Sheesh, that wire to the well wasn't even rated for direct burial
It did look like just regular wire you see in a house.
@@tristardiggin yeah the direct burial has the coating throughout and no paper inside. Much tougher to strip or puncture since it's not just a hollow sleeve around the wires
@kennethney4260 gotcha, good info.
Great video for why you need to locate services prior to digging! So much time wasted on unnecessary issues
Yes, that would be nice to have one of those to locate the water lines for sure…
" Endcaps?"
The owner is picking up some guards for the open end and the burried ends are capped with rock…
Thanks,
Sam
All glory to God, thanks brother.
Romans 12:4-8 For as in one body we have many members, and the members do not all have the same function, so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another. Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith; if service, in our serving; the one who teaches, in his teaching; the one who exhorts, in his exhortation; the one who contributes, in generosity; the one who leads, with zeal; the one who does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness.
Amen to that!
