- Anglin's Pier got condemned after Hurricane Nicole took out the middle section. Piers are usually off limits but we are diving down and seeing what's under there.

Those square things are artificial reefs installed by conservationist efforts to boost local sea life. Very cool video I really need to get out and do some snorkeling/diving soon.
Thanks! Snorkeling is fantastic, do you live in FL?
@@snorkeldreams Yes, just an hour or so north of there in Vero Beach/Fort Pierce. Would like to check out Sebastian Inlet at slack tide one of these days soon.
I just checked out Sebastian Inlet, thats a new one for me but it looks like a fun dive :D

Phenomenal video! I wasn’t expecting such quality and narration!

My family and I use to go to the hotel to the left of the pier when you look back to the beach. We went from the 1950's thru the late 90's. I used to fish that pier for hours on end. Loved it. Then the hotels converted to time share and condos. Great memories and great video!
thanks! just south of the pier there is a place called the Windjammer, and they have a beach cam. I use it almost every day to check the waves out and see if its a good dive day. its a good way to get a dose of live beach if you aren't here right now...

Wow, it has been 20 years since I lived in the Keys. I had forgotten just how much I loved snorkeling down there. I kept tanks of local specimens I caught while snorkeling. My favorite tank's sole occupant was a juvenile Pork Fish that I spent at least three hours trying to catch. (Each time I saw one in your video, it put a smile on my face). I kept him for several months, then returned him to where I found him.
One suggestion for your videos, if I may: at least for part of it, ditch the music and use ambient noise. I loved listening to Parrot fish eating the coral and the crunch, crunch, crunch sound they made. And the perpetual snap, crackle, pop sounds the shrimp make. The water is a noisy place (natural, not man made) and many folks have no idea what it sounds like.
Thanks for the encouragement and thanks for the idea! It's true, it can be surprisingly loud down there. You can always tell when lobsters are nearby because of all of the clicking :D

THE WAY THE TANG MOVE ACROSS THE REEF IS REALLY AWESOME TO WATCH . THE SCHOOL SEEMS TO BE ROLLING ALONG BACK TO FRONT . THE PIER IS FINALLY SERVING GOOD PURPOSE,ALLOWING DIVERS TO ENJOY THE REEF.
I agree about the tanga, they are like underwater herds :) I'm glad that they aren't fishing from the pier too, it's awesome to see the fish and know that they are safe for now!

Anglin’s pier is in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea btw…nonetheless, diving this pier is sensational ever since the section was torn out. I dive here all,the time. It’s beautiful!

It's very vibrant. I wonder if it's as active around there at night on the pier? Scary and fascinating I bet.
Nice video . Makes me remember Jacques Cousteau with his red bennie .
I remember his show (a little) from when I was young. One of his sons, Jean, dedicated the LBTS Shipwreck Snorkel Trail that is just south of this pier :)

Hey just a little north of Jade beach there’s an old sunken WW2 aerial bombardment target barge sunk in about 20’. It use to be called the Jade hotel back in the day. I think it’s a condominium now? You should check it out! Use to be loaded with lobsters and hogfish! We use to beach dive it after school. I would be curious to know what is left of it! Thanks for the memories my man.
You're welcome. I hadn't heard about the Jade Beach wreck but I just looked it up. According to several websites, its buried now, but I promise to go look and post it here if I find anything. Thanks for the tip!
@@snorkeldreams we stumbled on it one day by accident! In like 87 or 88. When we use to dive there it was Old Jade hotel to the north and to the south was a vacant lot with Australian pines. You could pull off A1A unload in the shade and go right out to the beach! Lol imagine a vacant lot with trees on the beach now lol 😂 yeah right….
LOL those days are gone here for sure.
nice video. I regret not going i closer to the pier when i took my daughter there last summer.
Thank you! I was nervous when I first went :)
Hi! I’m going to the area mid December. I have no snorkeling gear but I am dedicated to snorkeling here. Of course, I’ll purchase a mask and flippers. What would you recommend? How long does it take to swim out to this area where the majority of the video was filmed? Thank you!
If you are new then get a regular mask, not a full face mask. Get longer flippers. They don't have to be freediving fins, just don't get the little frog ones. Get a dry top snorkel, they keep water out until you learn. After a few dives learn about weight belts and maybe get one. They make it easier to stay down but practice without them first.
The reef at Anglins Pier is about 600 ft out on the south side of the Pier. Have fun and be safe
@@snorkeldreams thank you so much for your comment!! I appreciate it ❤️
The title had me thinking about the other kind of predators…
Bigger animals or humans?
Ive seen other florida pier videos where the water was full of tiger sharks. Werent you worried to encounter one?
Yes, kind of :D I am planning to take several dive trips with a company that lets you cage dive and free dive among sharks under their supervision. I do know that sharks are misunderstood and I am hoping that learning from them will teach me how to deal with sharks wisely. Sadly, the shark populations are collapsing in many areas due to overfishing and probably due to climate change, so it is pretty rare to see big sharks here while snorkeling.
@@snorkeldreamsmaybe that's why we are seeing more attacks and also the Orcas are chasing them away.
Great place for diving
it really is, you see a lot of sea life in a small area
I grew up on that pier! We use to ride the city bus with our fishing gear and spend the entire weekend camped out on the T…. Those were the days! BTW I’m 53 and that pier has been falling apart my entire life lmfaooo Any Regulars will remember Old man George. If ya know ya know.
OMG that's awesome! When I went to look at all of the damage I was surprised that nothing worse happened to it. Even in the state that it's in, its still a hangout for all kinds of people :D
@@snorkeldreams awesome! Was a fun place to grow up in the 80s man! Good times. I’ve been in Saint Lucia since 2004 and don’t get down that way much anymore! Seriously, thanks for the memories brother! Much appreciated.
Saint Lucia sounds super exotic, are there good snorkeling sites there?
@@snorkeldreams ha ha! That should have said Saint Lucie ,as in Ft pierce! Just north of Stuart. We are exotic all right. We are a quaint lil drinking town with a hell of a surfing and fishing/diving problem! I moved up here with the Fam in 2004 to raise my kids out of the big city! Unfortunately it has caught up with us up here also! However there are still many places you can go pull off on a dirt road on Hutchinson island and go to beach and not see another soul. For now! Lol 😂
@@snorkeldreams when I get to the house I’ll send ya a list of some spots to check out up here! They don’t call it the treasure coast for nothing! You would love fort pierce! What was that piano music ?
That was beautiful
I agree! The piano music in the start of the reefs section is called Waterfall by Aakash Gandhi from the UA-cam audio library :)
What are you wearing during your snorkeling?
these days I usually wear a one piece rash guard. its like a wetsuit but its not hot like neoprene, the water here can get to 88 degrees. you cant wear most sunblock because it interferes with coral reproduction, so if you don't cover your skin then you will burn over and over which can lead to skin cancer. There can also be MANY stinging jellyfish in the water so the rash guard protects your skin (they slide right off instead of stinging you). I also wear a blow up flotation vest with a whistle in case I get exhausted or taken by the current. I wear a weight belt so I can stay down without bobbing up like a cork and I wear a titanium dive knife. Its not for sharks, sharks are faster than my ability to pull a knife, its in case I get tangled in fishing line so I can cut it before I drown.
@@snorkeldreams Thank you very much!
@@snorkeldreams What brand is your one-piece rash guard?

Hey! A pal and I came here twice to spear before, got a big sized barracuda further past the pier and some nice snappers, however the last time we went a police boat came by (it was the weekday and there was no one else near the pier) and told us we had to be further away from the pier, which I know the law ofcourse, but assumed because typically everyone goes under the pier, aswell as the fact that it was inoperable made me think it was okay to go.
Is it legal for us to swim there, and the cop was giving me false news? Or does it not matter wether or not the pier is actually in operable condition
I haven't gotten any pushback about diving there, but during another weekday there was a kayak under the Pier and there was a state police officer asking if we knew anything about them. Im pretty sure they were spearfishing but didnt actually see anything but the kayak and a couple of masks. As I said no, I never found out why he was asking. In most places you can't spear within 100 yds of shore but I will try to find out more detailed info.
@@snorkeldreams awesome. Cheers man!
I found out the rules for spearfishing and you can't do it under the pier...

Wow visiblity is great. Where I swim in california is so murky.
Visibility is awesome most days between June and September here!
Do you dive in the kelp forests? I have always wanted to do that...
@snorkeldreams I've gone to catalina island and seen some beautiful kelp forests. Laguna beach is supposed to be great for snorkeling, but I haven't had a chance to go yet.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ beautifull ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you!
Definitely should make that place a no take reserve
I get letting everyone enjoy the reef, but you can tell that it has been fished to the point where there are only juvenile fish left. I think they should do like the fish, and let people fish only when the population is strong enough
There are monsters in the gelatin.......
There's all kinds of life under the sea, lol
The city won’t fix the pier?
Sooner or later yes but the army corps of engineers has to get involved so we have a while
Tarpon are baitfish for hammerhead sharks.
I know they like to eat stingrays. Supposedly, they use their hammer to pin them and then bite them
@snorkeldreams that is also true. The last few tarpon i caught were almost ceremoniously bitten in half or more by hammerheads . Big ones too
Wow! That's wild and a little scary
Man this the shit I want to do before I leave this place.
Snorkeling itself isn't hard, lots of people have to get past fear of open water and animals tho :)
So a snook is like a human because most males hit maturity and become a female
all I see is lotsa delicious fish that i can eat
Those crevalle jacks were big and fat and people say that snook is really tasty :)
Be wise, be safe. If you spent time in the water boating in FL, you never swim, jump in or otherwise in Marinas. And for God sake, don’t swim at piers where people are fishing.
I live on a tidal river two miles inland from the sea. No swimming here unless you enjoy Bull Sharks.
Thanks! Fortunately no one fishes here now. There was just a saltwater croc under the Pompano Pier to the north, scary!
@@snorkeldreams Yikes! Now that will give you pause! I have not seen one gator in our tidewater, but just know they’re there! It’s a joy to watch the Dolphins, but on occasion you’ll see that one fin, that is bigger and does not belong. Glad you know the rules of the road 👍
I am no expert, you never know what you are going to see down there :)
And nose rings
Lol the nose ring stays under the mask, I usually take my guages out tho
I can't get past the pink hair.
Lol, as you get older it can be hard to not be invisible to people. People either like or hate the pink hair but they notice it :D
@@snorkeldreams I did notice it.
Transgender fish?! Who woulda f’ing thought?!?
