    Hey Ron, what are your thoughts on flipping the panel upside down so that main breaker is at the bottom. I know a lot of people have mixed feelings about doing that. I just don’t see it done enough with a lot of people. Great job as always, love the content.

    I really enjoy watching your videos especially the panel upgrade videos. In this video, I noticed that the surge protector is installed below one of the breakers. I have a Square D panel with an installed surge protector. Square D wants the surge protector installed in the top position in the panel. It's interesting that Cutler Hammer doesn't have the same requirement. Does it really matter where it's placed in the panel? Keep up the great work. I am really glad that you are back to publishing more frequently on UA-cam. Your is one of my favorite channels.

      I "think" surge protector is to be installed as close to the main breaker as possible / practical.

    I love your videos Ron but I'm going to say you're supporting the wrong team. I think the Oilers are going to take the cup tonight in game 7.
    Nonetheless, keep up the great content.

    Good job Ron .curious,So that meter that was there was a 200 amps ? And how the you find out that the service was good for a 200 amp panel? Thanks

    Amazing the ultility company has the ability to disconnect your power at a smart meter but can not install a $5 lockable lever to manually open meter relay contacts so customer had to spend mega bucks to have the NEC mandated outdoor service disconnect. Would never want my branch cirvuit breakers being outdoors nor would my senior citizen customers.Nice neat work. Nice to see you did not instsll another garbage ge jumk panel. Last two GE brand new panels I had to work on neithet door would open more then 75 degrees even after removing them.

We asked het for a cup of water twice but ended up drinking warm water out if s gardrn hose. End of job we took off our work boots and sat on her chairs with our firty feetnin her kiddie pool. Following month dhe wanted us to vome over thst day to run a line to s window air conditioner. Told her we were nooked up gor restnog summer.

    I'm working on my deck down here in SC. It was 94, felt like 100. Absolutely brutal! I lasted 4 hours then went inside and took an ice cold shower. Waited for the sun to go behind the trees, worked another 30 minutes, came inside and took a 15 minute break, worked 30 and so on until it was too dark to work. It's supposed to be 95 the next 2 days then 97

    Great video! One of the o key channels that shows the whole process. I’m over in Philly and the heat has been unreal. We’ve been in attics doing recessed lighting. Does NJ allow you to put the main at the bottom so you don’t have to run 4/0 from the bottom to the top? Or is that prohibited by that uniform code. We only have the 2017 NEC where I work

    Forgive me if you covered this in the past but can you explain your system for keeping track of the circuits, also which requires what breaker. Is it all by wire size? Do you label circuits or run around to see what turned on/off to relabel? It seems effortless for you and I could see getting bogged down in the bowl of spaghetti. Thanks.

    When the 2023 code adoption hits you will have to install a disco for a panel change with the new note In 230.85. In north jersey some inspectors are requiring it already

    • @electricianron_New_Jersey
      @electricianron_New_Jersey  3 місяці тому

      The North Jersey inspectors? Rules apply to all of NJ, not just Bergen, Essex and Passaic counties. The Uniform Construction Code which supersedes the NEC does not require an exterior disconnect for panel changes. It's only on "full service upgrades" and spells it out clearly. There's a link to the UCC in the description of every video I post.

    • @wirenut9062
      @wirenut9062 2 місяці тому

    One of the code reqs for home power systems (battery backups) when installed in the garage are required to have heat sensors installed that communicate with the homes smoke/carbon monoxide detectors.

    • @electricianron_New_Jersey

      @@TheTubejunky oh yeah? What’s the NFPA section?

    • @TheTubejunky
      @TheTubejunky 2 місяці тому

      I think it's actually part of the building code but the electrical inspector says the Building inspector isn't looking for that (or WON'T) so it's up to the electrical to cite it. Also the batteries when installed in the garage must have 3hr burn ratings on the drywall.
      Not sure of the codes sections but this was from two different inspectors on the East Coast.

    Ron have you ever walked away from a service upgrade? Example , Where I live We still have a lot of active old cloth wiring still active in the walls or the Phelps/Dodge with the undersized 16 gauge ground twisted like a pretzel with 6 or more landed on the ground bar and brittle at the device location . People don’t always have the money for a complete rewire . I’m very cautious, once you touch it ,you own it .
