When the worst thing about a song is that it ends too soon, you know you've got an awesome song. More great song writing by Tuomas. And those vocals at the end... wow!
As a Geologist myself, I thank You very much for describing his life with such details. He was a great man and we owe him a lot. His story is beautiful. When I first heard the song, it touched my heart deeply, and still does. The lyrics, the voice, everything is georgous and full of meanings. Beautiful reaction, thanks for the video. :)
This is what an actual reaction looks like. You're transforming the content and adding value to it with your commentary, painting the picture for everybody to put the song into context, as opposed to just stealing it and fake emoting. I really like some of your videos that I've just watched.
This was, in my opinion your best review ever! The introduction to Shoemaker was extremely well done and it amplifies the meaning of the song even more. Thanks.
As a paleontologist, I've definitively been moved by this song. As you said, for us going to "smash" rock with the hammer is one, if not THE, of the best experience in our field, which means travelling to far places, outside human's territory, confronting Nature at its best. You find yourself back in time in the environment (working on sediments 150 million, 200, 500, 1 billion years old) and in the soul, when humans were just another new species in the stage of evolution. Absolutely brilliant, Nightwish have become a musical symbol for natural sciences (biology [with Procession], evolution [Greatest show], geology/paleontology [Endless Forms Most beautiful, plus others] and physics in general [this one and Endlessness). Other people already commented on the "Laudato Si Per Aspera" and "Laudato Si" itself. I'd like to add another possible reference, "Per Aspera Ad Astra", "attraverso le asperità sino alle stelle" in italian, "through hardships to the stars", a recent quote modified from Latin proverbs (like from Seneca, Cicerone and Virgilio). It would mean, in this case, that even through the hardship of Eugene's life (the disease which prevent him to go to the Moon, and his death), he was able to reach his dream.
I have listen to this song over 15 times and I cried every single time, this song summarize what the album makes you feel. So many emotions in one song.... What an amazing work you have done with this video. The best reaction to this masterpiece.
I am stunned. Your review: one of the best I've ever seen... the song: a breath-taking blending of science and music, definitely one of Nightwish's best ever. It is pure genius, through and through. The operatic ending was emotionally overwhelming! Your reaction video here should be required in all astronomy, geology and cosmology classes.
Laudato si is also the title of a prayer (?) by Francis of Assisi. There's a Canadian Franciscan friar named Guylain Prince on YT who's doing a series of in-depth textual analyses of all the songs on the album (he's a Nightwish fan...) and he went into transports of delight when he got to that bit. His reactions and analyses are well worth watching - they're in French with subtitles, but his manner is very engaging and his insights are quite stimulating. Take the time, you'll thank me...
One of the best Nightwish songs up till now. Only far too short, the Laudato Si part at the end of the Shoemaker song should be an album version itself of two hours epic metal heroic operatic explosion, not a two-and-half minute piece of music.
First time I heard the second half of Shoemaker I was just shaking in my chair. I'd already read what it was about and the greatest thing about it was what the song represents. Science and art are humanity's noblest pursuits. We don't need no tales of angels nor demons to scare our minds into submission to a closed horizon. We need to know the real, human stories of great scientists and artists who expand our horizons and thus our humanity. Tuomas is a great musician of course but, his greatness as an artist doesn't stop in his grasp of musical theory and storytelling (remarkable though that may be). What makes this song so special is great artists paying tribute to a great scientist, more than anything, thanking him for his contribution and the inspiration of the next generation of great minds pushing forward into the light. It's a spiritual experience and you don't need to believe in millennia old fairy tales to enjoy it.
I love you so much for doin this incredible "reaction", but its so much more than a reaction. One of the most emotional 30 minutes in my "youtube life". Thank you so much,. greets from Germany.
Wow... just wow! Everything in this video, from the intro through the story about Eugene Shoemaker and the reaction itself... the editing, background music... so beautiful, spot on, excellent. Thank you.
I’ll second that and thank Deacon for the writing of it. You two are amazing; thank you for sharing what was, for me, 30 minutes of special joy. So vastly different from the norm; so much better. 👍❤️
I just watched another channel's reaction to this song, and it was great, fun, etc... But I came back to this reaction because you two just get it. All the research, sharing the context, the depth of feeling, the hard work to make such an amazing video... Truly you two are a gift. Thank you 🙏🏼💖 I love crying with you and laughing with you! May we all move forward, not sideways 😊
Floor in her Instagram said that this ending part was the toughest part to sing. She said it took a few takes to get it just right : not too thin, not to heavy...just right. It’s such a beautiful song. It makes me weepy every time.
it's weird. that kind of perfect female operatic vocals hit some specific nerve in my brain every time and it makes me forget all my surroundings which is really rare these days.
The entire song is very difficult to sing, but Floor nailed it. I saw a reaction video made by a opera singer/ vocal coach who explained that the speed, and changing rhythms made the song too difficult for most singers to sing yet Floor made it her own.
The very first time I listened Shoemaker I was on a bus, I was my way home after work, wearing a face mask and all... when the “Laudato si” part started I was smiling and crying at the same time, and because of the mask I get out of breath and started coughing... Luckily the bus was almost empty, but the few people on there probably thought I was crazy or... infected by the coronavirus!
One of the best videos i have seen, Nightwish is so amazing and this is great introduction for shoemaker. I will watch this multiple times. Keep safe. Love frome Finland
Well, that last part sounds like the angels or valkyries are calling you home..... Greetings from a humble german sailor and may all of you stay safe and healthy in this times.
When I was listening this album for the first time I was shocked from the last part of this song.I could not believe the level of musical beauty. Combined with the amazing story of this exceptional scientist I had chills...as I have every time I listen to it. One of my next thoughts was how much I want to watch your reaction to this suberb piece of art. Stay healthy you two. Many greetings from the beautiful Greek island of Kos.
Love to see you get so touched by Floors voice at the end. The whole composition is so special. It does touch people to the core. And that is the beauty of music.
I am a Nightwish fan of the first hour and I usually don´t really like this reaction videos. "HipHop Fan reacting.....", "Music teacher reacting......", "Whoever........" because they´re all superficial bs. (Sorry to say this). Your videos are so much different than this. They go deep. Great background informations. Great investigation ...... I really like this. Keep on doing this !
Omg you guys are so adorable!! I KNEW you would both have a meltdown over this song! I have heard it like 30 times now,and not once without crying! !! Floor puts so much emotion into this that it is just beautifully painful to listen to💗
I have yet to not tear up listening to the end of this music. Floor has stated they do not plan on doing Shoemaker live, but they have had many, many requests for it.
Joe Kelly First it was Tuomas who said that this song is not going to be performed live. Then Floor said in one of her live Q&A that it is not ideal song to perform live but ”If there is this much request for it maybe we have to reconsider.”
You guys have outdone yourself with the series on this album. Thank you. THANK YOU for binding us together in this album experience. All my love and gratitude.
Just like Nightwish is not just making music, but give us stories, the same you don't just give us simple reactions, but true experiences. Damn it, you made me cry.
Omg you guys had me crying. I knew the story about shoemaker and his ashes but when put together with your explanation and Tyson’s stardust quote it is super powerful. Did you know that atoms magnified under the strongest electron microscope looks very much like a star scape. There is more to learn about our universe than we could possibly learn in a lifetime. Science is building on knowledge already documented over the last few decades by people like Eugene shoemaker. As a species We should concentrate on expanding our knowledge and continuation in the cosmos rather than seeking to gain knowledge on how to obliterate our species. Ad Astra- to the stars💕🤗
"a gorgeous ending", "Floor sounded like an absolute angel", "pure operatic bliss", "I cannot believe how beautifull this sounds right now" "it's haunting". Thank you, awesome reaction, we appreciate the research and the genuine heartfelt comments! (PS glad you googled the latin quote before ending the reaction, that rounded up the experience)
I definitely appreciate the background provided and your willingness to show everyone Shoemaker's life, goals, and research took him prior to the song. It's a big part of this song and it's one of the reasons I love your content. Your videos are insightful and try to capture the who, where, why, and meaning behind the song. Your reaction is true and genuine and was just like mine. Great content, keep it up, and I love you both!
Music like this ceases to be merely music and rather becomes an experience. It strips away our greed and selfishness and bares our true soul, of what we wish to and may one day become. It truly is our one redeeming quality and our greatest achievement.
I was lucky to watch many interviews with Gene, his wife Carolyn, and David Levy during the spectacular Shoemaker-Levy 9 comet collisions with Jupiter. He had such a warm, smiling, grandfatherly way about him. He was a fascinating man to listen to. It is nice to see him honored like this.
I just love you guys..... greetings from a 43 old death metal maniac who loathed Tarja-Nightwish up until 3 months ago when I accidentally stumbled upon Floor and the Wacken concert. Love and hugs to you both♥️
The ending to this song is going to kill our hearts when it's played live. She captured that operatic part to perfection on disc, and we all know the power of her voice live. Great reaction again!
You guys are quickly becoming my favorite reaction channel. I cry every time I hear Shoemaker and now it was double tears just because of your reaction. So sweet and heartwarming! And you two are so damn cute together I can't stand it :D Thank you for this, I can't wait to see you reacting to the rest of the album (don't forget the instrumental part of the album tho!). Stay safe and healthy, greetings from Finland!
OMG! First time I listened to this song, I was like "meh"... After watching your lovely video and ALL the story behind it, I listened to it again with you guys and I am in love with it!!!! Thank you very much for that 🖤🖤
Thanks to you two! Never been much into lyrics and now Wolf explaining the meanings the depth of it all seriously sinks in. Personally I just love the album and the way you introduce all the little details just brings out the grandeur of it all. I just can't wait 'till you get into the final piece. My absolute favorite from the album.
Really appreciate the time and effort that Wolfkain puts into researching songs. On a side note, in a recent UA-cam Q & A, Floor stated that she has re-established her connection with opera and plans to focus more attention in that direction.
I'm falling more and more in love with you two and this channel :) your reactions are just so pure and heartwarming. the information and overall the work you put into it, especially into these Nightwish videos, make these videos not just stand out from the vast pool of Nightwish related reactions, but create also a big fun learning experience :) thank you so much for doing what you do in the way you are doing it
Found you about an hour ago, thoroughly enjoyed three videos and facts and background info and, by god, did I cry my eyes out with this song alongside you two. Just subscribed. Man. 'shuddery breath' So delightfully emotional.
Floor has said in a recent interview (on A & P R Reacts) that she really struggled to get the ending right in the studio. She ended up recording it at home in her own time when she knew it was right.
I've heard this song so many times now but experiencing it "with you" made me cry as I did when I first heard it. There are just no words to express how beautiful this is. Thank you so much for not just "reacting" but paying a tribute to his story and this beautiful song! 💜
Thanks again for a wonderful reaction. I love you take the time to dissect all their songs and spread that knowledge. Thank you for enriching my life. Love you guys! Stay safe. Greetings from a Dutch guy in Czech Republic
I think laudato si, means Thy have to be honoured, impertive form, si means Thou, ad astra means to the stars as a movement to (ad), so as a shoutout TO THE STARS,. It is also sung in two seperate sentences not immedtialy after each other. The last part will stay with you all your life. So Beatiful.
Thank you for that comment. I cringe every time people interpret it as a single phrase. The Latin doesn't work that way. And it's not sung that way either. "Laudato si" is obviously addressed to Shoemaker.
This is exactly why I love you guys ... not just blindly react to some song...but actually beforehand telling the story behind the song... thank you guys
Laudato Si - This somewhat references Pope Francis speech in which he sets the connotation as meaning “our common home”, “Ad Astra” translates to among the stars. So the translation in the connotative and denotative translation simply means “our home amongst the stars” which is a very ancient translation but shares the modern philosophy of Carl Sagan. Possibly one of the objectively highest points of Thoumas’ lyrics and the pinnacle of Floors vocals that we’ve been anxiously awaiting.
Guys, I absolutely adore your Nightwish reactions. Its totally unique and with so many details leding up to the listening the song. And when you two add your emotions on it,its absolutely priceless! Stay healthy and keep on.! Greetings from Croatia

I have been listening to the entire album for a while now. It's great, but damn... Thank you for giving the context. In my country we have never learnt about Mr. Shoemaker or any of this stuff. It's amazing to know this, because it gives the song another layer to appreciate it. So, once again, thank you both for this content :) Stay safe! Cheers from Poland!

Well, this last part is power in its purest form. It touches your very inner sides. This old latin words, the angelic voice and the music got the same power as the smoothly whispering wind in the trees, the roaring waves of the ocean and the warmth of a newly plugged field. It brings you to life.
Thank you so much for your reactions, i first heard nightwish about a week or 2 ago and i am just still getting to terms with how amazing nightwish is and Floor omg, the pure emotion i feel listening to her, wow. Its great to see you react so purely to the music, keep it coming, thank you👌🏻
Indeed, whole song is amazing and especially the ending. It makes me feel as if Eugene Shoemaker is there, on the Moon, watching Earth and humanity and saying "Door to space has been opened, time to stop squabbling and dividing each other, become one humanity and go out and explore the Universe". Amazing song, each time I hear it I like it even more.

When I first heard the song, it touched my heart deeply, and still does. The lyrics, the voice, everything is georgous and full of meanings. Beautiful reaction, thanks for the video. :)
I'm so happy you enjoyed it 😊🤗♥️
This is what an actual reaction looks like. You're transforming the content and adding value to it with your commentary, painting the picture for everybody to put the song into context, as opposed to just stealing it and fake emoting. I really like some of your videos that I've just watched.
Hello, again! And thank you, love :) :-* ♥
This was, in my opinion your best review ever! The introduction to Shoemaker was extremely well done and it amplifies the meaning of the song even more. Thanks.
Wow, thank you!
I know this Quote by Tycho von Brahe, an astrologist from Denmark, who had a observatory by the sea
I have listen to this song over 15 times and I cried every single time, this song summarize what the album makes you feel. So many emotions in one song.... What an amazing work you have done with this video. The best reaction to this masterpiece.
Legendary man, legendary band, legendary song. Legendary reaction channel.
🥺😮 Wow, thank you ♥️
We are all crying to Floors angelic voice! Amazing isn’t it😅
Laudato si is also the title of a prayer (?) by Francis of Assisi.
Yes! I also came across his videos recently!
He is a fabulous man - even to a cynical atheist like me. 😉
can absolutely recommend his videos aswell :)
His reaction to the 'laudato si ad astra' part brought tears to my eyes.
I just subscribed to him. He's amazing. His sheer joy is infectious. Thank you for the rec.
Hallo, Liebes! Ich danke sir sehr!🤗♥️
Grüße aus Nürnberg :)
You don't simply react, you have undercovered the whole story beneath the song and I can really tell that you experienced it completely! Wow!
Beautiful intro. That is why i love your videos so much. So full of emotion, and from the heart.
Laudato Si
made sistah cry, made wolfkain cry, makes everyone cry
Wow...
The end bit is usually called the "The Earth Rise" and I think does represent what Shoemaker would see every day from his resting place.
Don't you mean "Earth Set"
@@kooppool4862 Yes in the video it is setting, but if it sets it must have risen and the known quotation refers to "Earth Rise".
Floor in her Instagram said that this ending part was the toughest part to sing. She said it took a few takes to get it just right : not too thin, not to heavy...just right.
It’s such a beautiful song. It makes me weepy every time.
Candace Yes, and she recorded it just right in her homestudio and she was so happy that she finally made it berfect, and oh my it really is!
Yeah didnt she say she just couldnt get it right until they had the choir parts?
it's weird. that kind of perfect female operatic vocals hit some specific nerve in my brain every time and it makes me forget all my surroundings which is really rare these days.
The entire song is very difficult to sing, but Floor nailed it. I saw a reaction video made by a opera singer/ vocal coach who explained that the speed, and changing rhythms made the song too difficult for most singers to sing yet Floor made it her own.
I'm not crying, you are.... Who am I kidding, of course I'm crying.
we're all crying. those who don't cry have no heart or soul.
Happy not to be the only one who cries with music. Thanks for this fantastic research and reaction
You are wonderful 😊 Thank you so much 🤗♥️
Fantastic intro and reaction. Learned a lot of details about Shoemaker. Made me appreciate the song even more.
Thumbs up for the intro alone, haven't even watched the song yet. That was brilliantly done
Toumas is a genius, the band is awesome, but Floor must be the unknown daughter from God.
It's impossible not to be moved by her voice. The day it doesn't isthe day I quit listening to music. I hope that day never comes.
This album is quit short, vocal wise, it's not that they have 14 songs to chose from and skip a few.
So not doing this one live surprises me.
When did she say this?
Joe Kelly First it was Tuomas who said that this song is not going to be performed live. Then Floor said in one of her live Q&A that it is not ideal song to perform live but ”If there is this much request for it maybe we have to reconsider.”
They also didn't plan on doing the greatest show on earth live and their Tampere performance of it was one of their best ever
You guys have outdone yourself with the series on this album. Thank you. THANK YOU for binding us together in this album experience. All my love and gratitude.
Lots of love to you. Thank you😊🤗♥️
Just like Nightwish is not just making music, but give us stories, the same you don't just give us simple reactions, but true experiences.
I have listened this magnificent song like 100 times and 100 times I have cried at the end... ❤️😭🤧 I love your reactions!! Great job guys!! 🎶
I just adore how emotional your reactions to music are ❤️
I definitely appreciate the background provided and your willingness to show everyone Shoemaker's life, goals, and research took him prior to the song. It's a big part of this song and it's one of the reasons I love your content. Your videos are insightful and try to capture the who, where, why, and meaning behind the song. Your reaction is true and genuine and was just like mine. Great content, keep it up, and I love you both!
Thank you so much and we love you, too!! ♥
This is the channel to go to understand the background info for the songs! Great documentary intro of the Shoemaker.
Thank you so very much! :))) ♥
A few things!
My favorite reaction so far.
Your editing is art.
We all knew that last part would hit you guys.
The power of Nightwish ❤
First time I've seen you guys and, I gotta say...OUTSTANDING job on "Shoemaker"...especially his history.
Thank you!!!
I just love you guys..... greetings from a 43 old death metal maniac who loathed Tarja-Nightwish up until 3 months ago when I accidentally stumbled upon Floor and the Wacken concert.
Love and hugs to you both♥️
Love the kiss you give each other before the song, it melts my heart guys!
Absolutly one of the finest reaction videos I have ever seen. You have made a video as fine as the song itself.
Aaaaawwe, thank you so much! ♥
The ending to this song is going to kill our hearts when it's played live. She captured that operatic part to perfection on disc, and we all know the power of her voice live. Great reaction again!
They’re not going to doing it live😔
@@sonjaemery There are not that many vocal songs left then isn't it? It's not that this album has 14 vocal songs they can chose from.
Sonja Emery Maybe they are! From 8:15 ua-cam.com/video/2TQPK3aksdc/v-deo.html
@@sonjaemery Ah, but they might. During a live chat session Floor opined that they just might, if there was enough fan demand for it.
They did it live. And as usual, she made it sound even more epic. Floor's live vocals are seriously something else.
I can't even imagine how cool it would be to see her singing this live. I want to live on the last part of this song.
I'm falling more and more in love with you two and this channel :) your reactions are just so pure and heartwarming. the information and overall the work you put into it, especially into these Nightwish videos, make these videos not just stand out from the vast pool of Nightwish related reactions, but create also a big fun learning experience :)
thank you so much for doing what you do in the way you are doing it
When Floor wants to, she can make a grown man cry. Great reaction
Found you about an hour ago, thoroughly enjoyed three videos and facts and background info and, by god, did I cry my eyes out with this song alongside you two. Just subscribed. Man. 'shuddery breath' So delightfully emotional.
Welcome aboard and thank you! ♥
Floor has said in a recent interview (on A & P R Reacts) that she really struggled to get the ending right in the studio. She ended up recording it at home in her own time when she knew it was right.
Wow, this song is even better after i listened to your Reaction with all these background information. Thank you for this!
I've heard this song so many times now but experiencing it "with you" made me cry as I did when I first heard it. There are just no words to express how beautiful this is. Thank you so much for not just "reacting" but paying a tribute to his story and this beautiful song! 💜
Absolutely loved your intro story explaining Shoemaker's life and legacy. Thank you for that. Cheers!

Close to devine.
Stardust we are,
See how we shine!"

Thanks again for a wonderful reaction. I love you take the time to dissect all their songs and spread that knowledge. Thank you for enriching my life. Love you guys! Stay safe. Greetings from a Dutch guy in Czech Republic
Hi, Sunshine :) Thank you so much. All the best to you :-* ♥
I think laudato si, means Thy have to be honoured, impertive form, si means Thou, ad astra means to the stars as a movement to (ad), so as a shoutout TO THE STARS,. It is also sung in two seperate sentences not immedtialy after each other. The last part will stay with you all your life. So Beatiful.
Everyone who keeps saying it means "praise be to the stars", please read the comment above. He's absolutely right.
@@user-hs9gb8vo7e I mean, that's still technically a direct translation. But yeah, his comment is more in details about it.
Dammit guys, I got teary eyed with just Wolf telling Gene's story.
Thank you.
Beautiful, scientific and filled with love reaction to this stardust memory of us all. I ran over to your page from a heads up over on Nightdreamers Reacticide. So great to see you put the GLS reaction nod in your comments. Shoemaker and Ghost Love Score are epic reactions for me. Stay safe. Love from Missouri.
Master piece...Floor is the best singer on the planet..and out planet...Tuomas Genious composer...we are Nghtwish Army...👑🤘
I really hope the band is gettin to see this reaction. So much effort and information AROUND the song beside "just" a simple reaction. You guys deserve recognition.
Your reactions are something else guys...that ending tho...the goddess at her finest operatic voice...exquisite
TY very much you two ! That is the best reaction video i ever watched and i watched a lot ! A lot of research already presented very emotionally, and your reactions straight from your hearts as always !
Stay safe ! Greets from germany
🙏🏾🤗♥️
Been waiting to see your reaction to this song in particular and it was exactly what I expected. 😎 Cheers
You two are my favorite Reaction people! There's something so incredibly authentic about you and I am always interested in seeing and feeling the emotion written on your faces. Thanks so much for doing what you do. It's sincerely appreciated!
Aaaaawee, thank you, sugah! We appreciate you and your love! 🙏🏾🤗♥️
I crossed paths with you guys yesterday. Seen the original reaction to Nightwish. Then to more music.
This one I didn't leave without subscribing.
I 've listened to the shoemaker right before seeing your reaction video, and you guys placed an already magnificent song into context! Thank you!
I’ve been waiting for this reaction 🖤 you’re damn cool. So emotional 😭 omg I cant stop crying
MY GODS IT IS SOOOOO SAD!!! Thank you for you're way presenting these Masterpieces.
Most meaningfull album I have ever heard. Human Nature. Very interesting and is my best comfort during this corona pandemic. Can 't wait for the rest, greetings from that tiny country, the Netherlands.
Wow! Thank you for this! Love this kind of reactions format!
"...The only way we deal with it is pretend it doesn't exist." Well said. And so very true.
