Omg! Finally! I got Taylew then spamed ancient death rancor. Taylew is an amazing tank. It was like night and day. 50 tries with my mimic and no kill. then 2nd try with taylew he finally goes down.
Oh yes, the ancient death rancor spell uses frostbite which Gauis is allergic to

After beating him, head through the archway that he runs from at the start. There is a cabin in that area with an enemy archer on a wolf. She drops the legs for his armor set.
