BUILT-IN CABINETRY INSTALLATION

- Installing built in office cabinetry in this final video of the series.
We attempted to cover the various aspects of the installation process however a couple segments of video didn't take so were making do with the video that we have.
In this particular video you can see our technique for installing these extra large upper cabinets using a temporary platform set up.
Once the uppers were installed and secured to the wall we tackled installation of the header and crown molding(one of the segments we don't have much video of) We did, however, cover the fabrication aspect in a previous video.
With the upper cabinetry completed we turned our attention to templating the desktop (another segment of video we do not have)
And that was the end of day one of the installation. Day two begins with the installation of the base cabinets. After the base cabinets are installed we moved on to installing the large T-shaped desk top. Everything worked out almost exactly as I had planned, however, the desktop was much heavier than I had anticipated. When we fabricated the desktop, which can be seen in a previous video, it was never moved from that location. We performed the fabrication, sanding and finishing all in the same location in the shop. If I had to do it over again I would do it the same way again. Joining the seams in the shop gave us a better finished product rather than installing individual sections.
With the desktop installed it was just a matter of taking care of the final details and cleanup.

I love the craftsmanship, and always appreciate you walking us through how you do things.
But I’m perplexed on this room…is it 12 feet high? How in the world is someone going to access the top shelves in those upper cabinets without standing on the desk? And the drawers in those upper cabinets…they’re above your head so I can’t see how you can see what’s in the drawer.

11’ ceilings. Upper sections were definitely not meant for everyday use. Client wanted the cabinetry to go all the way to the ceiling so that’s what they got!

What paint did you end up using for the finish??
For this project we used Emerald Urethane from SW.
