CABINET CONSTRUCTION - EDGE BANDING

Edge banding the front edge of plywood shelves.
Continuing in our series documenting the various processes of completing a large built cabinetry project. In this video we are looking at edge banding the shelves. We don't do a lot of edge banding so we don't have any big equipment for this process. Just because we don't do enough to warrant large equipment doesn't mean it isn't a good skill to have in the arsenal. All you need is your basic household iron and some iron on edge banding. We share a few dos and don'ts when applying the edge banding.
Once the edge banding is applied, we share our process for trimming the excess. Over at the router table well use a round over bit to flush trim the edge banding and ease the edge of the shelf in one pass.

Great idea. I just did my first edge banding for some one who didn’t care to see the edges of the Baltic birch drawer stock. Those blades following the grain is no joke and I’ll give this a try next time and skip the file!
