- Ever wonder what 4WD short course truck out there is right for you? I've owned just about all the major players out there and here is my take on what the best 4wd sct is for purely bashing. It's really a three man race with the Slash 4x4, SC10 4x4 and Losi Ten SCTE

I had a Slash 4wd Ultimate and a guy showed up with the SCTE and let me drive it. After like a minute of driving it, I handed him his remote and told him I was getting one. I sold the Slash that day and found one on CL late that night. After a little negotiating I picked the SCTE at like 1:30am! lol I love the SCTE.
I can't really agree or disagree with you on your verdict as I have not owned the Team Associated SC10 or the Losi SCTe, but I do own the Slash Ultimate LCG and that thing is just a beast. However, I did something similar to this a while ago with the Slash, the Prolite, the OFNA NEXX 10SC and the Turnigy Trooper 4x4 (not like the one you had - I had the yellow one) and I actually favoured the OFNA NEXX 10SC over the Slash - just. Now, my video was more about bang for you buck than which was the best basher, so my point of view was a little different. But I like the info you've given out here, I think it will help out a few people looking for that ultimate basher SCT.

Great video man. I bought the slash 4x4 platinum for bashing and so far so good. I run on 3s and still the The truck is very durable. I have had to upgrade the drive shafts and thats it. The one issue i have is when it gets some air it only responds to braking and not throttle. So if i hit a jump and it noses up i can correct mid air. If it noses down then im screwed!! A couple of air vents in the body have helped a little though i have decided to monster truck it. I think it should be worth the money.

Your spoy on mate, iv had the slash ultimate and own the Losi ten scte, iv also driven the T.A.sc10, the losi is the boss everywhere exept small tight tracks, i personaly would agree with ausieplayground and have the Nexx 10 in 2nd place then the slash then the team associated sc10.

The Caster Rapture, Tekno sct410, and the Ofna TS4 Pro/Team C TS4 are all worthy contenders for racing and bashing.
Nice little comparison, I like these new videos you're doing. I have an HPI Apache SC myself as a basher and I have to say that that is a great machine as well. It's plenty powerful, slightly bigger than a 10th scale and a lot heavier and I think it's the weight that makes this thing so great. It just grinds through all kinds of stuff I throw at it and there is no stopping it. It jumps great and when it rolls it nearly always lands back on it's wheels. The only thing I don't like is the ESC that comes installed in the RTR kit as it is obviously struggling and heats up really badly. Other than that, I love it and it may even rival the Slash or the 10 SCTE as a no-nonsense basher. So far I haven't broken a single piece on it and it has seen quite some action. It may not be 100% fair to compare it to a Slash or 10 SCTE though as it is an 8th scale truck.
I agree the SCTE was the best. I bought myself the losi and my son the 4x4 slash platinum and that thing had all kinds of problems and I had to replace like 6 bearings through out the truck in less than 5 race outings. But disagree about bashing these trucks, if you just want to bash I would get a revo,emaxx, summit something like that. These short course trucks just have small tires and low clearance making the truck flip, get stuck, or just bounce around from hitting little things like rocks. You can bash anything but if that is your primary goal, I wouldn't get short course. But if you want one to race with, he nailed it, the losi is Rock Solid and hands down the best!
I have the TLR TEN-SCTE 2.0 and use it for racing. I got 2nd in NC (Norwegian Championship). I also use it for bashing, on the track. It's extremly predictable, like the 1.0. And that can be really fun, in the rain, with slicks, drifting, and still getting 2nd in a Club Race xD

I know you didnt own this truck but the tekno is far the most durable truck that ive owned. And ive owned all the trucks you mentioned. And the tekno. But imo i like the way the losi handles more.

Thanks so much for sharing your personal knowledge on this. I just ordered the Traxxas Slash 4x4 vxl with OBA. Wanted to go for the ultimate, but didn't want to miss out on the OBA option which I think could make for a great experience depending on where and who I'm bashing with. I figured I can always upgrade parts later if I decide, or just replace any damaged parts with upgrades if something breaks. Any ideas on what upgrades would be best for great control, stability, and reliable bashing with minimal part damage? I'm 41 and although I've had electric and nitro cars/trucks in the past, it's been like 20 years and the technology seems so much better now. I've been wanting to get back into it (just for fun) for a long time and now I have kids that will enjoy watching it and soon bashing with me. Thanks man!
Great video. It's all about losi I race my friends slash and team associated but don't come close to the losi scte.
Im a Team Assosciated guy, but I bought the Ten SCTE 2.0 put the castle 2400kv and the Mamba max pro esc, This thing flys! and holds up better than my RC8.2E
Spot on pal, the Losi ten is the best all round sct, Racing is a bit different as there are different types of track, on a tight 1/10 track the TA. Sc10 is boss but anyt other type and it's ten scte all the way with equal drivers that is

The Losi TEN SCTE is based on the 8ight chassis which is why it is so great.
I thought it was based on the 810. Is the 8 and the 10 platform the same?
***** Well the 8ight was the buggy tlr put out to replace the 810, so I guess they are all related.

Lol thought this video was outdated but the team associated sc10 4x4 is completely RTR to run for 330$ at my local hobby store which in my opinion when price is a object is a big factor, to say that the losi can be raced is a understatement because it was built ground up to be raced, and about the slash I have personally owned 2 slash vxl and now own the sc10 4x4 and the team associated is a much better deal it's the cheapest out of the 3, it's very durable and versatile, it handles great on and off track and very reliable and have never had any problem with the belt, I've got to say if price wasn't a object I would buy the team losi but since it is I would go hands down team associated sc10 4x4 because your paying half the price for a full rtr brushless 4x4 that will out perform most 4x4 cars. Check out team associated before buying a traxxas and see if you like it it might just save you 300$

I owned a slash 4x4 for 2 years and I ran it on 3s all the time (with fans) working out of town I drove this truck 2 or 3 times a week, it never let me down and im talking semi loading docks at 25 mph. I believe it has to be one of the best bashers. The plastic driveshafts suck thou.
Would be nice if you did a review on the Losi Ten SCTE 2.0 kit.

What about Tekno SCT410? It's a 8th scale unbreakable monster.
Before I saw the publishing date for this video, I thought "what???" ! The Slash is a great beginner racer, and you will probably want upgrades because some parts will keep breaking. Still a great truck, for around 500$ complete, not much can beat it. However, if you're racing SCT, you'll want something like the Tekno SCT410.3, which runs circles around the slash, and is super tough. The Tekno is a kit, however, so you are looking at double the price if you have nothing to start with.
Would you please compare the Ten truck to the Ten Buggy? Relative pros and cons?

you should try out the tekno sct410 or the new 410.3..way more durable in terms of beefed up parts,16mm large shocks!.sold my ten-scte 2.0 to be replaced by used 410 and newly build 410.3..i even put a body of eb48 inside to keep those nasty mud,rocks,sand out of electronic bay.my 1st truck was slash platinum,sold it,then losi xxx-sold it again,then ten scte 2.0..then saw the tekno 410 on the local track i was racing and immediately i was blown away how big of a tank the parts are! my god this will survive the zombie apocalypse!..build like a tank..everything is BIG or BEEFIER and has tons of steering!

Rcnightmare? What are your thoughts about Arrma - Senton 6s Blx 1/10 4wd??? Looks well made and has aluminum parts in the right places.
The TEN SCTe 2.0 is a great truck there's no doubt about it. However if you're willing to venture away from the short course arena a Mugen Seiki MBX6 eco now can be had for the same price since the X7 came out. With all the carbon fiber and high end pieces on that buggy it starts to make the Losi look a little expensive when you think about it in my opinion. But if you have a short course class and no 8th scale buggy class by all means the Losi would be a better buy.

Jeremy! What do you think about the team associated sc8e? I had a really hard time choosing between the slash 4x4 and sc8e. Got the sc8 incredibly cheap off ebay, used, upgraded with all of the "neccesary" upgrades. Its durable enough, in my opinion, but maybe a little heavy. I guess the slash has a more "playful" feel to it, given that it is half the weight, and almost the same size? The sc8e rtr now is actually cheaper than the slash 4x4, but i think the sc8e could be a good contender as one of the better 4wd trophy truck bashers. :) xD.

I am getting back into R/C cars after about a 20years. I just bought my son a 2wd slash vxl and would like to get a car for myself. I was thinking about picking up the new Losi 4wd TEN-scte. Is this car too much for someone with no 4x4 experience and is just getting back into the sport. I will do a lot of bashing with maybe a little racing. Thanks
Not at all, it'll be a lot easier squeezing out some performance and fun from a 4x4 and the Losi offering is a really great bit of kit :)
I've got the AE SC10 4x4 myself because i already have several bashers so i wanted a race oriented SC, and i totally agree with this video, the Losi and Traxxas are better bashers right out of the box.
But i believe they both would have a real struggle keeping up with my SC10 in a race (not really fair since i've put about 350$ in pure race oriented hopups into it though)

Just get the older version. A roller of the older version can be had for $219 which is an amazing price point. The 2.0 costs $465 and there's no way it's more than twice the truck. That's Mugen X6 money. In terms of track times you'd probably be looking at a couple tenths of a second difference in lap times. If you have your heart set on the 2.0 though wait a little while and the price could come down by over $100. That's what happened to the 8ight e 3.0.

I had the losi ten sct nitro and was so annoyed with how much the 4wd made the front end push I tried to cut the front half shafts and just ended up selling it.

ULTiMATE TRAXXAS MAN slash 4x4 can't handle 6s like the losi or arrma or tekno. it's 10th scale parts, the others are basically 8th scale buggys with sc body on it.

I have one issue... no mention of the associated pro-lite 4x4 which is associated sc 4x4 marketed to bashers. Also, rc car actions truck of the year for whats thats worth.
I hear ya, never owned it...but you also have to remember, RC Car Action is not a news outlet...its misleading "reporting" and puff pieces paid for by rc companies...
That was the reasoning for saying... "for what that's worth" No hate intended. Just wondered why it wasn't mentioned.
The pro lite has durability issues from what i have seen. The body mounts break like a pretzel.
Not trying to be a fan boy here. I like different companies for different things. But almost every kit has issues, some more than others, and I hear there was a running change on the body posts but I don't know that for sure, just what I heard. Not saying it should have won, I've never even owned one. I just wondered why it wasn't mentioned. I like AE I won't lie, but I wouldn't consider the SC10 4x4 for the basher category personally. It is almost purely race inspired and too much of a pain to work on for a basher, this is just my opinion. Please know I'm not responding for the sake of argument but rather the sake of discussion. =)
