That’s what happens when people get knee deep in a rumor. Not a “leak”, a rumor. That when something like Piranha Plant happens (admittedly isn’t groundbreaking, but I still thinks it’s pretty damn cool), people get so butt hurt because it doesn’t comply with the rumor. They take it with a rock of salt and get upset. The same people that saw the first trailer and said, these fighters were enough, apparently they weren’t. I don’t often voice my opinion in the comments, but this felt necessary.

He posted a picture of the supposed poster, and the quality was good enough to trick people into thinking it was official. It had characters like Ken, Isaac, and Geno on it. It’s called the grinch leak because the guy proved he worked at the print shop by showing off posters for the Grinch movie by illumination

This is why I hate leaks. Eventually there will be a really legit looking “leak” and everyone is so sure it’s real. When it turns out to be fake, everyone can’t help but be disappointed and it’s kinda sad to watch people go from excited to crushed in a second when a certain fighter is revealed that completely shuts the leak down (Incineroar). I’m personally happy with what we got

Let me introduce you to the wonderful world of Adobe Photoshop.
I knew the grinch leak was fake because why would Sakurai introduce 7 NEW CHARACTERS RIGHT AFTER HE SAID WE ARE GOING TO SLOW DOWN WITH NEWCOMERS? If you thought as DLC well that makes sense.
Yeah I was leaning towards the Grinch leak but I didn't think 7 characters would be revealed. Maybe 3 or 4 and the other few characters would be the first of the DLC.

Everyone else seemed bummed about the spirits mode, but my brother and I thought it was really cool. It's like event matches, but with countless interactive rewards that it seems like you can do a lot with to help kinda customize your playing style.

I'm pretty excited for spirits
i enjoyed it because they were constructed as if you were really fighting those characters, most of the time. so much so i started making up my own Spirits from games i feel should be in the game. even if there were some things i missed in the end (e.g. Crash Bandicoot), i'm still immensely satisfied with how much content they managed to add to Ultimate - something they probably wouldn't be able to do with Trophies.
Piranha Plant is not one of the five DLC. He's separate, meaning that there are 75 fighters with Piranha Plant, and five more after that for 80 total.

If you were disappointed then you need to stop listening to fake leaks and instead listen to what Sakurai himself said. He SAID in the very first direct that there would be fewer newcomers this time around and he was right. He SAID after Isabelle's reveal that there weren't many characters left to reveal and the pace would slow down which it did. Regardless, he's still given us the most content and bang for your buck that I think I've ever seen in a video game and I'm quite excited.

36:38 "I love you Sakurai... thank you so much for this game!" Honestly the best reaction. Of course it's easy to be disappointed that your favorite character didn't make it in... but this is shaping up to be one of the biggest games EVER made.
My genuine first reaction to lucario and greninja dying was "wow, greninja is a jerk for abandoning lucario." No joke.
Can we talk about how amazingly structured that cutscene was? All the characters working in harmony at the start, (even though you can only see about 30 in that first wide shot). Each of them fighting back in their own style, but still ultimately failing. How it's perfectly made to make us all cheer for Kirby. Like, that Warp Star bit. That was amazing, down to the sound effect speeding up to sound like Kirby yelling in determination.

Seeing so many people whine (not this vid persay) and complain about this direct or the characters, when previously people said that they were fine with what we had before this direct. ALL of this work Sakurai has put into the game.... I know not everyone is like this... but I'm seeing a lot of it, and it rubs me the wrong way, coming from someone who is passionate for this series, but isn't in the competitive scene. I get it when a character isn't a player. I wished for a few myself, but I'm not gonna act like it's the end of the world. Plus, there's still hope for some with dlc!

You and I must be thinking similar thoughts. Aaronitmar was among the many who succumbed to the greed of the fan base. How disappointing.
I didn't notice the quotations ended after "Smash Fanbase..." so I tried to read the rest to the tune of the song until I noticed lmao
A phrase I dislike is "Decomfirned." Mainly cause nothing was confirmed in the first place. It also bothers me when people are like "This character is ONLY an assist trophy." I'm like "At least your character has a model, animations, sounds, voices (if applicable), and some kind of in battle effect. What about the poor Shantae fans, a series that started on the Gameboy COLOR, who only gets a 2d image? Sure they aren't playable, but at least they're in the game at all. Besides, characters like shadow are Sega property, not Nintendo, who knows why he didn't "get upgraded," and Waluigi, as funny as it would be for him to be playable, is more of a joke anyway, Like Isaac I don't see him having a moveset worthy of Smash. At least Isaac is back IN the game. We got Ridley and K. Rool, I think those are the best choices for the new "holy shit" characters as it were.

Remember those weapons from Emissary that turned the fighters into trophies? Those large beams that attacked our fighters turned them into trophies. This might be the source of Taboo and what’s controlling Master End. We might be fighting the mastermind behind it all.
And this may also explain the Metal Mario and Luigi on Melee’s adventure mode
I hope it is. That would be an amazing way to tie World of Light into Subspace and Melee's Adventure mode.
It wasn't turning them into trophies though. They were disintegrated and when you saw Mario tied up he wasn't in his trophy pose or had the shiny finish the trophies had in Brawl. The base he was stood on also didn't seem to be a trophy base. Also why tie up a trophy if it can't move or free itself?

If you want to get technical, disintegrate is simply to break something apart or lose cohesion, as was shown when the beams hit. It likely was them being teleported to wherever that prison was. Disintegrate doesn't necessarily mean death.

I really don't get why they revealed *these* characters as the last fighters. I'm sure the reception would've been a lot warmer had Ridley or King K been the final reveal.

Honestly, I feel they revealed them first because of leaks. Imagine Vergeben leaking K. Rool, it would've ruined the surprise, so I'm guessing they decided to reveal the 'hype' ones first.
This is why they kept saying they screwed up on the reveals and that they would slow down. We read to much into those statements and assumed they were trolling.
Well, it also depends on when they started making the characters as well. :p
Sakurai showed them in this order so that a half-naked cat(Incineroar) could be the 69th fighter.
That spirit we saw wasn't black knight, that was the Twilight Princess rendition of the Darknut my guy, which was in fact also in Smash Run

I also was happy and surprised when I saw both Ken and Incenaroar becoming new characters for Super Smash Bros Ultimate and the first time I saw the World of Light trailer it was really good and it made me feel many emotions seeing many characters just being taken by the beams of light, and happy to know that Kirby is the savior of smash!

Ender, Ace of Spades he kinda wasnt. The art of the grinch leak included isabelle AND incineroar in their current spots. So either the grinch really did steal smash bros in terms of dlc (what I am hoping for), or they got hold of the final art and for some reason added to it.

@@AngeloDERSON Same :'( It looks like Vergeben was right all along, and he said that there would be a Square Enix rep, but that it could be base roster or DLC. So we have no new SE rep in the base roster, which means it will be DLC. In Smash 4, Geno was a Mii costume. If there is a SE rep as DLC in this game, it would have to be Geno. If Geno was not going to be the SE rep in this game, Sakurai would not have given him a Mii costume in Smash 4. He would have given it to a different SE character, like Chrono. So don't give up hope!

...because the Grinch isn't a video game character, so Sakurai would never put him in the game in the first place. Of course that 'leak' was fake.
Nick the Dreamer it wasn’t about grinch being in the game, it just had ‘verification’ in the form of ‘unreleased’ grinch art that turned out to just be obscure, this was due to the fact that the leaker was speculated to work at a printing company with Bandai namco
