I had a phillips. I couldnt use it. Thank the Lord. I knew later it had been recalled. Years later i decide to see if i can get a replacement. Only because my dr is wanting a sleep study. Only to find out they have the same issue in 2024.
I've been using CPAP pillows by ResMed for several years. This last supply came right after I changed out my mid month update so I left the box unopened for two weeks. When I opened it I found the tube still wrapped in double bagging but thought nothing of it. When I put it on to sleep, I smelled something that burned the back of my throat and upper lungs. I was tired so I kept saying, it'll pass. But then my lower lungs could feel the burning (It was mild burning, not a lot) so I changed it out for my old tubing but still had shortness of breath for the next 7-10 days. I meet with my CPAP pro next week for an update and will discuss this with her and I also sent a link to this video. Thank you. Never thought blowing air would be dangerous. My sleep pattern was awake two days, sleep two hours, awake another day, finally sleep over night. Interestingly, my brother has the same pattern.
I cannot speak to heart attacks or strokes...I have not had either...but I have been using a CPAP religiously for over 20 years. The migraines have significantly decreased in number and severity; since childhood, I used to get several migraines weekly; I thought frequent headaches was a normal human experience. Also, I get much better sleep at night...no day-time drowsiness. I cannot praise the CPAP enough...even though I might sound like Darth Fader at night.
I sleep very well with my cpap masjien 9 years now No snoring no daytime fatigue I used to fall asleep at my desk at work I was sent for tests an ended in icu After they recognize my oxygen levels was not right I was sent for tests The results conclude I stopped breathing for apx 18. Seconds 61 times an hour Now everything is ok I even use it for my afternoon nap (65 jr ) I like the device that fit below my nose with the pipe ontop af my head The air does not now bother my wife Resmed masjien
It's about the overall risk benefit ratio and what you're personally wanting to tolerate. I'm not against CPAP 100% of the time which gets lost in headlines. There are some people who get great results and prefer that. And that's fine. What I'm not fine with are people who try CPAP, struggle, and then get pushed to "keep trying" for 6 months without any discussions of any alternatives.
I recognize the value of the humidifier, and helping my sinuses to drain during times I'm congested. I could control my bedroom humidity without CPAP, but I'd keep it for use when congested. With CPAP, I rarely remain congested by the next morning.
Yep, a CPAP is a tool that can work in some scenarios! Have you ever just tried a nightstand humidifier? Even a small battery powered one would suffice
This was my criticism of the online sleep apnea forums. People are programed to not explore other treatments and to just trust in CPAP for life. What about the 2/3 of the day when we are awake. What about folks like myself with mild apnea?

Have to have taoe at this point...just want off. Was 90 episodes an hour in 1999...
What's crazy is, it's not just this topic/issue. It seems to be the same thing on repeat, these huge corporations always get away. There's really no real consequences, liability, or accountability. They just get hit with some fine which overall in the grand scheme of things, is not such a hit for them nor the people responsible for these poor decisions and lack of intervention. We need to have actual consequences for the people involved, otherwise this kind of stuff is going to just keep occurring. Many instances of corporations getting away with crap, they knew the harms, internal documents surfaced, yet just some fine which is incomparable to the damage done.
I hear you, it's upsetting, and it's why I make these kinds of videos. However, I don't think the cycle will ever break. The easiest way (that still requires effort) is for people to be more of an active agent in their own health. It's harder, but pays off in the long run
I was recently switched to BiPAP. BiPAP sucks more than CPAP. I haven’t lasted more than two and a half hours with the mask on. It feels like a ventilator that is forcing me to breath faster than I do naturally. This machine is supposed to help me sleep. It is failing miserably. I can’t believe this is the best the medical community can come up with.
BiPAP is indeed a lot more difficult. However, you can try to find some wiggle room with the settings. But yea... it's frustrating as heck. Make sure to check out the other videos on breathing on the channel!
Ok. Thank you. I did see some about slowing breathing. Definitely makes sense. Sometimes the BiPAP is too quick. It feels like a ventilator forcing me to breath faster than I breath naturally.

I fired my doctor and walked away. He was the source of my sleep doctor referral. He went away, and my sleep doctor went away. They managed to shutdown my CPAP remotely! So here I am, no CPAP, no sleep doctor, and no primary care doctor, and I am fine! Do we really need the CPAP? Or is this entire process simply a money making source for the AMA?
It varies. A CPAP can be a temporary stop-gap measure, but I find they're a bit trigger happy to give a CPAP to people who haven't tried any alternatives (like even just sleeping on your side). So... to your question... probably
