  • Sharing with you the results of our little experiment into what is THE BEST VITAMIN C SERUM for face and neck and is Skinceuticles C E Ferulic really worth that price point?
Hey guys and welcome back to Mad About Skin where in todays video we are working out what is the best vitamin c serum for face and neck with a little survey based on the 5 factors we consider when making a skincare purchase.
Vitamin C is one of the most popular skincare ingredients, with many people reaching for a vitamin c serum in their skincare routine for its ability to brighten the skin, minimise dark spots, fade hyperpigmentation and boost collagen for some anti-ageing benefit.
When it comes to choosing the right vitamin c for your skincare routine, lots of brands will claim theirs is the best so lets put 4 of the most popular here on UA-cam to the test and see who comes out on top.
Skinceuticles C E Ferulic Serum - this has the most advanced formulation and delivers really quick results but scores poorly on the price point coming in at £140 here in the UK and $160 in the US. If you have the money then the studies into this product will for many prove it is worth the price but for many there are other options delivering the same results with a more realistic price point.
Timeless Vitamin C - this serum has a very similar composition to the Skinceuticles one and many will call it a dupe. its not as stable but thats not a huge issue as its in an airtight pump which will delay oxidation. takes a little longer to work than C E Ferulic does but for the drugstore price point this is in my view superior. Just watch out for the pump which is prone to leaking so not ideal
Geek and Gorgeous C-Glow serum - this is my personal favourite though it can be expensive to get in the US and Canada so bare that in mind. Gorgeous formulation and made fresh every week this is a fast acting vitamin c which wont break the bank. Freshness is key here but you can extend the life of the product by keeping it in the fridge.
Melano CC Vitamin C Serum - this is the only product on this list which doesnt disclose the percentage of the vitamin c used which is a shame as the packaging is amazing, the results great and the price point drugstore.. If your not someone who really cares about percentages then this one could be for you but others will be a little let down by the lack of transparency.

Loved this video style and would like to see with different products. I had a bad experience with pure vitamin C a few years ago and now love the derivatives particularly TO one with the long name!! However the Melano CC can be bought in Asia for around £8 and I’m hearing lots of good things about it and wondering if I should just give vitamin C a go again.

I like this series and can’t wait to see what else you come out with.
As for vitamin c…. I get enough with the MAS serum and the derivative in it. I don’t need high % serums at all!

You're spot on with the CE Ferulic there. I use it but i haven't been able to afford it some months. Regarding oxidation, if you keep it in the fridge it won't oxidise. I wrap it with aluminum foil for extra protection! But you're right, they should tweak the packaging. If not pump, maybe small biodegradable capsules. They can definitely do that, with so much money that they have!
They should really lower the price of this but it feels they will never do it.

I know this is a bit late, but I found the Timeless 20% Vit. C to oxidize fairly quickly and the pump would not consistently dispense a predictable amount. I’m going to try the Melano CC next. Thanks for the video!

Thanks for this video, very informative as always. It gave me the courage to finally give Timeless a go which for some odd reason is less affordable than the CC Melano here in NZ. I’ve been eyeing it for months but it’s only sold online here and currently sold out at my go to online store, so hopefully when it’s restocked definitely getting my hands on it. I still love my CC Melano and it’s been months and still hasn’t oxidised! I also find it quite nice on my sensitive, reactive skin. But there’s something with Timeless skincare that is keeping me intrigued.

Hey Rob! I've nearly finished my G&G C glow, so I ordered another bottle thinking it was going to be a while to get shipped to me, I've put it straight in the fridge, so I'm hoping it won't go off! Once again great video xxxx

I can confirm that even an opened bottle of C-Glow lasts a long time in the fridge! I bought the little decanter bottle and would only put a few mls into it at a time and leave out, and many months later, the larger bottle in the fridge was still so, so fresh. I've also noticed that the Melano CC serum lasts forever out of the fridge because of the tube it comes in (although that one isn't my fave, it's a little too greasy for me but effective. C-Glow is definitely my holy grail and i never want to be without it).

I find it easy to get the free and fast shipping - 1-2 C Glows (fridge and small bottle allows me to get through 2 in 6 months), 1-2 A game 10s, plus whatever I need from Stress Less, Sal Acid (my teens), cleanser, an exfoliant (lasts a year). toner. Also recommended it to friends and will see if we can pool our order.

I am from Canada and wanted to give the vitamin C from Geek and Gorgeous a try. I bought the Jelly Joker cleanser and the C-Glow. The products came to €21.30 and the shipping was an additional €18.00 so nearly the same price as the products. These two costs converted to $54.70 Canadian. Then there was Canada custom charges which were $21.52. Basically the two items then were about $75 Canadian. I think I will have to keep with the Timeless Vitamin C out of the States although they don’t offer free international shipping but there are no duty charges. That being said I liked the C-Glow serum and would probably continue to buy if there wasn’t the duty charges.

used the Skin Ceuticals CE Ferulic serum when I was on Accutane and it was really effective! Sunspots reduced and it sits really well with a natural glow below makeup, although it's so expensive, a little goes a long way, can easily last 6months. After I stopped Accutane and skin became more oily and acne prone again, I used their Silymarin CF Serum instead and it works better for me than CEF, controls my sebum production and skin is less oily over time. I stopped using for a couple of months due to budget and recently just repurchased as an Xmas gift to myself, and I can really notice a difference in my skin with v.s. without using it! even my friends complimented on my glow! p.s. the Phloretin CF doesn't work as well as CE Ferulic and Silymarin CF so dont waste ur money on it!!!

You only need a few drops because it spreads easily, especially if your face is still a teensy bit wet. It even says so on the packaging and instructions (thanks Google translate). I use two drops on each cheek, and one for my forehead and nose, and one more for problem areas. Each drop is small but powerful. I’ve been using it for four months with awesome results.

In terms of Melano CC, the newer version, premium essence is better! Btw Rohto Seiyaku is the only company in Japan approved by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare for the efficacy of its whitening effect in the formulation of pure vitamin C.

I don't get any change in discoloration with vitamin C. I use Timeless 20% and previously used Maelove Glow Maker. But it does seem to have some skin firming properties. I'm not sure I'm going to stick with vitamin C.

I've tried all of these serums except for the Timeless. I agree that Skinceuticals is the best of the lot, certainly fastest-acting but the price point just kills me. I also don't like the Melano, didn't do anything for me. This might be odd, but for my Vit C "serums", I like using NIOD's Survival 0.

Hello! You popped up in my feed and I was just researching vitamin c serums. Skinceuticals is a big no for me.The price and the fact that it isn't cruelty free. Neither is L'oreal. I was going between Timeless and Dr.Brenner.The ingredients all seemed similar to me.Most seem to prefer Timeless. I can't deal with the leaking.I've not had any issues with Dr.Brenner.Thanks for all of the great information.

I'm here before midnight! I need this video. Something is making me breakout. I started two new products at the same time I'll never do that again. If I do not use Seabreeze on the spot between my lower lip and chin I get white heads. Tiny ones. The worst thing you can put on your skin is the only thing that works. I just ordered some. I'm ashamed. I am still most happy with Algenist Blue Algae Vitamin C. It is on sale at SkinStore right now. I just read the Niacidamide cannot be used with Vit C. is this true comment readers?

Regarding mixing niacinamide and vitamin C: I've seen dermatologists and chemists, like Michelle from Lab Muffin Beauty, explain that in lab studies where they mixed high concentrations of both and put them through conditions that would never happen in our own skin, the niacinamide turned to nicotinamide, and that was bad. However, being that these were tests done in petri dishes and the same conditions would never be found in our faces, it's considered to be safe to use them together, as long as you don't personally find it irritating.

Hi Rob, at the moment I'm using a vitamin C derivative just to be on the safe side, but I can't wait to upgrade to real vitamins C and the Timeless one looks good to me.
Do you know a brand called Pure & Cimple? They have a bit C serum that seems good. They have an air tight pump and opaque packaging and for a month's worth of product, they send you 2 smaller bottles rather than a bigger one.
I'd love to know your opinion on it. Thanks!

Melano cc vitamin c serum has patented formulation to stabilize the L-Ascrobic acid. Therefore only Rohto can use this formulation. I am not sure what percentage but many cosmetic formulator in Japan say it's probably around 5%.

It’s been almost a year since the last time I purchased a bottle of Timeless vitamin c serum and unbelievably it’s still a very bright yellow in color. I can almost swear that it never changed in color but only the slight. Ps: I always keep my serums in the refrigerator.

Same! To save money, I get the 4 oz and keep it in my refrigerator. I decant about 0.3 oz at a time into an amber glass bottle with a pump top that I keep in my bathroom. It takes me about a year to get through the whole bottle, and it never goes darker than a pale yellow!❤️

Although Timeless has the same ingredients as Skinceuticals, I think they use inferior grade of products or they have something else in their they aren’t mentioning. Timeless made my skin burn and turn red but not Skinceuticals. Nothing else was different except for the Vitamin c serum. I wish there was a way to determine the precise grade if the ingredients. That might explain why one is more than the other.

I've been using this vitamin c face serum by rice berry littleextra for a few months now, and I'm truly impressed with the results. It's become an essential part of my daily skincare routine. Over time, the serum has effectively minimized the size of my pores and faded dark spots. It's excellent for my sensitive skin. One of its standout features about this serum is its light, non-greasy formula. It absorbs quickly, making my skin feel rejuvenated without any oily residue. I strongly recommend it to anyone who wants a brighter, more even complexion, especially with the benefits of black rice water. This serum is mild enough even for sensitive skin. After applying the face serum, I follow up with riceberry sunscreen, which contains niacinamide and kojic acid, These have helped me further reduce dark spots. Also, practicing yoga everyday helps maintain my skin's elasticity.

The thing that bugs me about timeless is how much it leaks. Of 10 bottles I’ve never gotten one that didn’t leak. That leads me to believe it cannot be airless if it was airless there wouldn’t be a way for it to leak I would think. I like skinceuticals 10&20 AOX and I’ll add a tiny bit of Ferulic & Resveratrol on top. It’s quite less $$ that c+e+ ferulic at $169 here in the us I feel it is similar to it tho. I got the 10AOX for like $65 when SkinStore does their 15% off of skinceuticals which I love.
