@@Onbehaard it's a lot different now though - it's kind of more like a cross between pride and prejudice dancing and rugby. Don't need alcohol you get dizzy enough from being spun violently every 2 seconds, and if you come away with bruises you know it's been a good night.
I've met several people who met the QM or were in service with the RF. Those who met the QM all said that she was a very nice woman and the servants loved her. She seems to have had great charm although she was tough as old boots. Apparently when at Balmoral she'd get herself down to the village, chat to people over the garden hedge and invite herself in for a cup of tea :)
I'd bet she enjoyed a good party too! I really don't know what to think of the QM as I never met her, but people who did know her have said that the QM was a lovely kind woman - if she liked you, but Heaven help you if she'd decided that she didn't like you!

Absolutely smashing. Bless her late Majesty, she looks so vibrant. Wonderful family time across the generations. A dysfunctional family eh Maghan and Harry!
Compared to other Royals, especially Brunei, HM Queen Elizabeth is the most humble Royal, if you look closer at her dress, even the dress that she wore when she was young, all of them are average common dress, some celebrities and CEO's or business person is even more lavish than her. And all of her castle is old medieval castle, and only being maintained to be taken care of, that's why people love her, despite every scandal and controversy brought up by her children and grandchildren, people still love her, even republican figure in every country where she's the head of states is so respecting her that they wanna turn republic once her reign is over (after she died, Long Live the Queen)
A lavish lifestyle? Living in old palaces and country estates that are cold, drafty, leaks with few moments of privacy from attendant staff and undertaking royal duties all the time, even when she is sad or unwell. Countless miles smiling and shaking the hands of strangers, being gawked at. I think too many people equate status with privilege. The Queen is a rare creature and we have been lucky to have her as our head of state for so many years.
