She was an amazing woman who knew what was what even when the politicians didn’t. What a shame so many people felt so scandalised by a simple dance.

In a way it was not a shame. It illustrated that S Africa, in particular, did not belong in the Commonwealth if it wished to continue with apartheid, and it clearly separated the royals, and hence the UK, from that policy.

@@humnnn I think "hate" is also sort of like a fad, since a decade before covid more of the dirt in the past of the nation have been dug out so it affects the people as a whole, sort of. I admire the Queen for having protected many from falling into the diabolisation that could have buried under its thick stench the great things the nation achieved.

    Do not forget
This was before the civil rights succeeded in USA and less than a decade after the start of apartied and mixed race marriages were trying to be banned in democratic republic India
Some people genuinely still believed that taking a blood transfusion from an African would not work
This was so far ahead of its time
Spat in the face of apartied South Africa and was extremely taboo among blacks, whites and Asians
    This was groundbreaking

Despite Queen Elizebeth was sent persuade Ghana of not being close to ''Soviet Union/Communism''. She fell in love with Ghana, the people, the cultures, rich and might civilization. At the end she was a human and women and wanted to genuinly dance with a Kwame Nkruma a man she respected and admired. Its was jelous old elites that didnt like seeing a white female dance with a african male.

i could be wrong here, but by Dancing with the Ghana leader their former queen, leader of somewhat benign "former oppressors" dancing with an African leader as equal and not subject, showed a symbolic change in attitude, in London, the Commonwealth realms would no longer be treated as mere colonies to "pillage" but something more equal in footing, friends united under the queen and crown

QEII was one of those rare people who would always do what she believed right, no matter what society thought of that. People back then thought she was a reformist who was going to break the system. People nowadays think of her as a traditionalist, who was guarding the system. But, in reality, she had just been doing what she deemed right, no matter what others thought about it. She is the real iron lady of Britain

Ghana gained independence from colonial rule in 1957. Once again, a journalist has totally misunderstood what a Commonwealth Realm is. Between 1957 and 1960, Elizabeth II had been Queen of Ghana entirely separately from her positions as Queen of the UK, Queen of Canada, Queen of Papua New Guinea, etc. One person, many different offices. When Ghana became a republic, it gained no more independence than it already had. It merely replaced an nonpartisan constitutional monarch with a political president.

During WW2 the Brits refused American military demands to introduce their segregation laws of American troops in the UK. It resulted in several conflicts including one where black GI's were shot and arrested by their own military.
My mother in her 20's at the time danced with many black GI's, saying if they were willing to come all that way to help them defeat Hitler they would be treated with the same respect and gratitude shown to all soldiers.
So while the upper echelons might have been bothered by this I doubt most Brits saw any problem with this event. I suspect the Queen was prouder of her turning the Commonwealth then to what it was at her death as much as anything she did as Queen.

Queen Elizabeth met the blackest of African leaders and peoples, and had a blast in her life, so when Meghan Markle paints her as some vile racist, I will allude to these people she had met. Even Robert Mugabe like the Queen. These leaders felt she was a great person distinct from her duties as the head of the British Empire.

True - however look how she has treated the Queen and the stress she and Harry has added to her in the last year until she looks so frail. This monarch who gave her much privileges than she did with Catherine; yet she and her husband went on Oprah and told so much lies and caused so a huge divide among our nation. If she hadn't entered the royal family, none of what we are seeing and hearing now both nationally and internationally (including attacks on the monarchy itself, of which the Queen is head of) would NEVER have happened. This is why it is so PAINFUL to see how the Queen has physically deteriorated so quickly within a year. It is so heart-rending. As much as I forgive MM and H for what they did, they STILL owe a PUBLIC (yes, PUBLIC apology to both the UK, their fathers and families for all the damages they have caused. They lied PUBLICLY - they should apologise PUBLICLY - if not, they will continue to experience many detrimental consequences and they will reap what they have sown, if not their children BECAUSE of their own doing and actions. So I say, CONGRATULATIONS to the monarch for her long reign of 70yrs and may she enjoy her remaining twilight years with joy, that God will have her to live. She is a blessed lady indeed.
