I am from a small village in Scotland and we learnt these dances for gym class at school. We used to go down to the local community hall on weekends and show off what we learnt!
It is really, really fun! Especially when everyone knows all the moves.

QUÉ SUERTE TUVO USTED EN NACER EN UN PAIS DEL PRIMERISIMO MUNDO. YO, SIN EMBARGO, NO TUVE SU SUERTE. POBRE, MUY POBRE Y EN UNA DICTADURA FRANQUISTA. PERO MIENTRAS ENTREVEÍA EL VIDEO Y LO ESCUCHABA, SOLO ME ACORDABA DE LOS PAISES AFRICANOS, SIEMPRE DOMINADOS POR TERCEROS. NIÑOS METIDOS EN HUECOS EN LA TIERRA Y ESCALVANDO PARA LOGRAR ALGO DE ORO PARA SOBREVIVIR. SUS GOBIERNOS CONNIVIDOS CON LAS MAFIS DE OCCIDENTE.
SEGURO QUE TODOS LOS DEL VIDEO SON CREYENTES , PARECE QUE LOS POBRES NO TIENEN A.LIENÍGENA QUE LOS PROTEGE.

I remember learning that dance in school. It definitely wasn’t performed to that standard, and as I recall the girls in the middle were often airborne during the exchanging/passing stage. It was chaos, but fun.

Factoid for all you fans of Downton Abbey: This is the reel that Anna learned from Rose during the family’s trip to Scotland (Season 3 Christmas special). The music playing when Anna reels is a slower-tempo version of the music playing when the lady in the blue dress (and later, her partner) steps into the center of the circle.

And mostly likely any wedding you attend to will definitely have at least two ceilidh dances no doubt! It’s such a fun way to express the Celtic music and so heart lifting, another thing that’s nice is when I play my fiddle with my fiddle group at the church or in homes and we play Auld Lang Syne and everyone just grabs each other’s hands and sings! : )

Those dancers have stamina, to dance this kind of thing for eight minutes! Love the dancing, the kilts, and the great music!

I know!! I (not Scottish) was invited to a wedding in Scotland and honesty- I didn't know how they did it.. I mean they danced for ages with a few breaks- and they were no professional dancers! But still everyone was able dancing this way!!! old and young, thin and (more or less) overweight, not-so-sporty and sporty persons!! Probably they were enjoying it so much, they forget that they weren't even sporty enough to do it :-D
      amazing!!

It’s difficult to dance for this length of time without getting out of breath. I’m in high school and we have a dance where there are four people in the middle and the other four on the outside and two of the middle ones lift the other two up. It’s really fun when you actually know the dances and add your own twists to it.

The Scottish Fiddle Orchestra -- led by the fantastic conductor John Mason -- was a favourite of my Blairgowrie-born-and-raised grandparents. They had all his tapes, including this one, I believe...
Timeless music, filled with unadulterated joy...

Fabulous and exhausting and that's just as a spectator ,we used to get this at school many years ago.i'm sure a couple of hours of this a week would cure Scotland's fat child problem and its good fun too.

Just another reason why I am so much in love with and why I am SO PROUD of the Scottish heritage I have. Me Mahther was of Irish AND SCOTTISH heritage so I've not alot of "Scot" in me BUT I LOVE amd maintain the little I have! Me bride to be is quite of British isles heritage: she has a bit o all the isles in her genetics (Irish Welsh English and Scot)!
