    I love that you did a video putting it in! I've been using tile for about 5 months. I should have added my tile after water was in the tank first. Only issue is that baby's can get under the tile and you won't find them if they die.

      You can net them put them in a bucket put tile in than put fish back in. That way they don't have to be re-aclimated. I already however was using a bare bottom tank no it was easier to put them In while full rather than drain tank. Good luck. Check out my other video showing how much waste was under tiles after removing.

    Good alternative to cover the bottom if it has scratches, I'll do it sometime in my aquarium.

    I’ve got them in my 55 and 125 both have turtles in them. My only issue is the amount of shit that gets under them. It drives me up the damn wall. The only real fix is to silicone them to the bottom but that requires an empty aquarium. If you have and other ideas lmk

    I just did my 55 gallon bought the tile at Home Depot. I believe I saw the tile you used but opted for a porcelain tile I liked better. I tried to find a glaze free option with out luck. I believe this tile has a glass glaze that I hope wont pose an issue being submerged I didnt have tu cut the tile it doesn't quite lay flat due to globs of silicone I placed in the corners during a re sealing. I'm thinking about using silicone to prevent waste from getting beneath the tile... Any input would be appreciated.

      Andre Austin Sounds good. I don't get much waste under the tile. It is however easier to keep clean. I just use a large sponge and a large fine screen net. Check my other videos.

    It is a good idea but you should make sure fish waste does not go under the ceramics.

    Is that a 55 gal?
    I have a 55 gal tank that u would like to to the same with.
    I went to Hope Depot and bought 4 tiles that are 6 inches x 24 inches. They won't fit unless I cut those tiles. I want to put tiles in without cutting them.
    Any suggestion?

    • @DiyRick66
      @DiyRick66  6 років тому +1

      Bobby Fish Tank Measure your tank from inside to inside then subtract at least 1/4 inch for caulking on tank. Different tiles measure different for some reason. I did however have to cut the tile to make it shorter to fit long ways. Yes 55 Gallon Tank.

      smaerd58 I was trying to avoid the cutting.

    GaaHaa! Don't Squish the fish ! !
    Also, tiles should be a loose fit, not touch the glass sides.
    Great idea, Good look, Easy to maintain.
    Thanks!

      I didn't feel like cutting down the sides. Check out my other Vids the fish are doing fine and tile fit great.

    Good idea and another approach to make your tank even better. But I guess that this is too complicated for at least two reasons:
    1. The tiles should perfectly fit the tank. 2. it is difficult to take tiles out even no water in the tank.
    Personally, I’m thinking just to paint the bottom or attach any paper I can find and like it.
    But this is just my opinion

      Tile cutters are cheap enough & not hard to use if needed. Don't cut them so tight that you can't get your fingers in to take them out if needed. I have a video of years of use & show how much detritus gets under them. Hardly any but only disadvantage no bacteria growth you have to have sponge or hob,sump,canister filter.

    how is it going with the tiles so far?

    • @DiyRick66
      @DiyRick66  7 років тому +2

      Jason Bowen I like it and no effects on the fish or issue's with the PH. It looks better than just shiny glass and almost still gives the appearance of having substrate on the bottom. Easy to clean up with just a sponge for algae growth and run a tight nit net along bottom for larger detritus. Good luck if interested. Rick

      smaerd58 Since you didn't silcone the edges and seam, does it get dirty underneath? I silicone mine to make it water tight but it was extra work.

    • @DiyRick66
      @DiyRick66  7 років тому +2

      Eric Lind I don't have any major issues with them getting dirty in the seams or underneath. I use a large sponge when time to clean and suck up debris. I recently drilled some rocks & glued in some fake plants for hiding places and looks better.

      smaerd58 Interesting. I just wonder what's really going on underneath. Just out of curiosity, have you ever lifted up the tile to see?

      Came here looking for tips. When I did a water change I had air coming in with my water and trapped air under my tile I believe. Anyhow, a week after changing water and adding platys, I woke up to my tank half dead. Found dead baby platys under my tile too. Eric Lind, I had goldfish just fine in here before but waste does get stuck under the tile. I think silicone is the way to go.

    • @DiyRick66

      No....you will need a cheap tile cutter & snap them how ever long you need them to be. 🤞

    Which tile was used.... Floor or wall tiles?

    • @Fibros66
      @Fibros66 Рік тому +1

      Floor tile. You want a tile that is non porous. Meaning not a lot of holes to capture dirt etc. Also a tile that doesn't change your water condition. See if vinegar reacts to it. Good luck. 🤞

      Chevy Montour If worried about it pour some vinegar on one to see if acidic. So it doesn't effect your PH. I personally have had no issue's. Good luck. Rick

    Seem it would be harder to keep clean when all the crap gets under the tiles.

    • @DiyRick66
      @DiyRick66  5 років тому +2

      This question has come up multiple times. Not much gets under them & if worried not permanent & can be removed. I also did a follow-up video to show after a year of using the tiles. Good luck.Rick

      I did this for a 46 gallon Discus tank and found a lot of muck under the tile after 6 months. Probably a better option IMO is to silicone the tiles in so nothing gets under it. However, you're pretty stuck with the look. i will say that I fed heavy bloodworms so it might have contributed to the waste.

      Add a little sand around the edges- seals out nearly all the detritus and makes the bottom look a lot more natural. I have done this for three years in multiple tanks. Goodbye gravel vacuuming and detritus...
